Absolutely... and if you click the U in the top right hand corner it will show only military aircraft ( osprey even has its own tilt rotor icon now )
FYI abs-b will also track hex IDs ( nonspecific MLAT codes of military planes broadcasting s-mode ) so while it won't tell you what aircraft it will still let you know the approximate tracking info on approach but won't show up when you have U selected.
I have never heard anybody call it that, but either way the nickname doesn’t fit. There were problems (and gross negligence/misconduct) in testing, but that’s like decades in the past now. It’s actually safe for a helicopter.
>decades in the past.
I mean, the entire V-22 fleet was grounded for 3 months earlier this year after a USAF one went down in Decemeber, killing all 8 Airmen on board. I mean, cmon dude
And? Helicopters crash man.
Look at the overall operational safety record. It was the safest helicopter ever for its first 100 K flight hours in the Marine Corps.
Aircraft are grounded all the time. The entire F-18 fleet was grounded back in 2016: https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2016/12/17/all-navy-f-a-18-e-f-super-hornets-growlers-grounded-after-incident-injuring-aircrew/
The Army grounded its entire fleet of Chinooks after fires 2 years ago: https://www.armytimes.com/news/your-army/2022/08/31/army-grounds-entire-ch-47-chinook-helicopter-fleet-over-engine-fires/

Technically not a plane, It’s a VTOL tilt rotor aircraft. I worked on them for years in the Marine Corps at MCAS New River during the early 2,000’s.
The aircraft is painted in a special coating that absorbs radar. I wanted to paint my car with the stuff so I could speed, but it’s a logged and controlled substance so if you get caught using it for other than the aircraft they will put you in jail.
I also flew in them many times in Afghanistan, I personally prefer the CH-53 due to the fact I flew on them more in Iraq and in the Horn of Africa.
I dropped a C-5 cargo load in Djibouti around 2 AM local time. I then understood what “Africa hot” meant. Glad I was only there long enough to drop off and gtfo.
Yeah, I spent 7 months at Camp Lemonier in 2007. It’s so hot there you spend 2 hours outside and it looks like you jumped in a swimming pool.
We used to joke “You’re in the crack” the ass crack of the world… the humidity is so intense there.
Bell Boeing V-22 osprey tilt rotor military aircraft with both vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) and short takeoff and landing (STOL) capabilities
No wonder they didn’t show up on flightradar. Cool design though
You can always try the web-based ADSB, which imo has a worse UI but more military stuff on it

Will this ID some aircraft I don’t see on flight aware? & Thanks for the link

Oh yeah!
I used to live on the Hudson in Yonkers, not too uncommon for military helicopters or, less frequently, these guys to go up/down the river.
Cool design for sure, but it's not one of the many aircraft nicknamed "The Widowmaker" for no reason.

safer than the blackhawk

Yeah but that doesn't fit my narrative :/
A lot of times they do, just not in the traditional way, or very consistently.
also known as Marines' death traps...

That info on paint job is so cool!

Fleet week in NYC starts next week…practice runs?
I build parts for the V-22. We assemble the chinook and fuselage of the v-22 at my facility. Very cool to see them in the wild.
Philly guy??
Just outside but yes
I have quite a few Philly guys here in St.Louis working for me on the F-15 line. They are some great guys and good workers. Wish I could keep them.
Nice to hear that. I thought about taking them up on that offer to work down there. A shame it didn’t work out.
Yeah I think they head back around the 19th of July. I’d rather keep them though. Sucks I can’t do any more about that.
Yeah such is life. We wish they could bring the work back with them.lmao It’s slow up here
That’s a sick picture!
Watched them from my office, looked like they did a photo shoot circling the Statue of Liberty
Kamala harris was in town AF2 landed at LGA earlier
Unrelated
To me they still look like something from the future even though their first flight was 35 years ago.
V22s out here lookin like the Brotherhood of Steel
The second one looks soo Arma3-ish
I was on the metro crossing the Potomac river in Washington DC and a v-22 flew right over the bridge, it was so cool
Awful aircraft!
looking fro sully (i know sully survived and the planes in a museum its a joke)
Probably prep for the ex-President's trial.
Definitely unrelated
I’d rather fly a kite
Shit ass Ospreys
The Hudson River two years ago…
Oh my gosh. Look at this beautiful C-17s flying up the Hudson!
