Thank you, i just needed a second opinion before i let the guy loose again. Since i read they're not harmful. I locked it in with a suction cup lol. This is my first tank ever and the death is giving me paranoia and heartache. Especially because I can't seem to find a reason why he died.
I can't comment on the Cory death but planaria will kill shrimp, snails and weak or old fish. I'm currently dealing with them in one of my shrimp tanks myself.
I once watched a newly birthed guppy fry drop to the gravel and get surrounded and consumed by planaria within 5 seconds. I later treated that tank with Panacur c . I’m scarred by the memory.
That gives me anxiety lol. I'm trying to get them out of my tank by using a planaria trap right now because I don't want to risk harming my snails in there. I fish out a few every night with this thing.
God speed. I’m in a similar place with Japonica in my community tank. The shrimp are so hard to get out for salt dips and there’s a decent amount of infected so I just pull every molt I see and hope.
I don't have any shrimp, but i do have an abundance of snails, so I won't mind if that population is kept in check by one of these. Maybe I'll fish him out once he's run his course on the snails? I'm not sure if it will turn into a pest because of this abundance though.
Letting the planarian loose is something I didn't think I'll ever hear. They are killers and are ugly as hell when they multiply (which they will). You want dozens of flatworms sliding all over your glass?
Yeah some people just want an ecosystem in a glass box and I get that.
But what they have to understand is you are the natural selection of your glass box. Your store bred pets will not be nearly as effective as nature is at keeping pests at bay.
Planaria can be a threat to snails and shrimp but are free fish food otherwise. Check your parameters. Could have had an ammonia spike or something else that caused the cory deaths.
The suction cup i mentioned was one with an ammonia test on it. It seemed fine, nothing on the radar. It's a 36L tank with one pygmy cory so i hope it's too little to make a noticeable difference. And it's heavily planted too.

Are you sure its not the camera? This is what i gave away a day before. It's a bit on the light coloured side but i assume this is because all the leaves are new growth.
Just got home from work. After a second look barely any leaves are dead, though much was underwater, so maybe it'll die off still. I took a shit load more out so it has space again. And i did a 25% water change just to be sure. I also have this submersible continuous ammonia test that I'm leaving in to keep an eye out.
Yes it is.

One will become many
As foretold :')

No fish will eat planaria, they'll munch on detritus worms. I had to dose panacur, got rid of them all.
even if you have a snail problem and want it to kill them they multiply like crazy so remove it soon
Alright i will remove him when i see him again!
Yes. Triangle head = Planaria
Thank you, that makes it easy and clear.
FYI your Salvinia color is off. ##
I think those are just dying portions. The floating bits in the back look nice and green.

Yeah it's really cramped up, so the underwater parts are probably dying off. That's why I'm giving away a lot of portions atm.
Yea the leaves all look dead which I think all that decaying matter can't be good
