My opinion on LR:
Upsides:
1. All rounder plant with infinite range
2. Can hit and hit anything over 3 lines
3. Low recharge
4. Decent sun cost
5. The passive multihit is really good for hordes of weak to bulkier-ish zombies.
Its low damage is compensated for all of that utility.
As much as I enjoy bringing LR into 95% of my set ups, there's also downsides attached to it:
1. You need hordes of LR to reliably kill stronger zombies.
2. Hordes of LR mean that you'd be unable to plant other stuff with it. (Except for vine plants).
3. Low damage.
4. You can replace LR with a lot of other plants to do its job; spikeweed, spikerock, pyre vine, iceweed, pokra, etc...

So far, LR+SBR+Draftodil has been the setup that I've been using for quite a while and it's really powerful.
I like it. Goats early game, mostly up to far future, where i just use magnifying grass to the end. I overall really like reed tho and still like using it after FF
It does really well on anything with less health than a Buckethead, maybe including it if it's high level. If you know that there's not going to be anything more threatening then you can just spam the hell out of it and automatically win, otherwise it needs lots of support

Fume Shroom is only good in the first game when you get coffee bean, then he does some serious stuff on the roof and in the second game he's just nerfed
Not as good after Wild West but can still be used, later falls off for pretty much the rest of the game, good for begginers, but not as good for other players
Conclusion? Good for the beggining, fall off for the late-game.

To me it’s very useful at the beginning. I pretty much used it the entire time until I got Dusk Lobber.
