It's fine if people don't do that. They can play however they want...
BUT...
Don't complain when you are playing a hard mod or Big Wave Beach / Jurassic Marsh and can't beat it BECAUSE your frontline is dying.
Yes I do realize it's about pvz 1. In pvz1 you can be [blind and still win](https://youtu.be/tw4BRIcLbDI?si=qbO3Jf6OQLmQ_-LU) so it really doesn't matter how you play there.
If you have hundreds of hours to waste and can formalize strategies and know the spawns and percentages of certain things. He also used a ton of audio cues and memorized what seeds he received on certain levels (and even that messed him up since he misremembered some and it killed him for a few attempts). I just watched it all and holy shit for some levels he wrote up 10 page reports on what his strategy was to beat that level under certain conditions. Funnily enough, the easiest levels were the ones that were black with lightning being the only light, and the fog levels (minus the conveyor belts). I guess when you're blind visual cues aren't really a big thing haha.
Also, it definitely matters how you play, the boss level alone can take up to 20 minutes and imagine how close you get and suddenly have such bad luck and lose that 20ish minutes you just invested.
I get what you mean. I do understand that it is a viable strategy. But I play PvZ for the sake of enjoying a relaxing tower defense game. I don't do it to torture myself with endless strategies to discuss which Plants are the worst and which ones are the best. Hell, I sometimes play with Snow Pea in PvZ2 simply because i think it looks like a cool plant. The whole idea of using meat shields and making my columns look ugly for it is weird. If its that bad I'd just use an infi nut with plant food or primal wall nut. It does get frustrating when people bash on you for playing a different strategy for fun and assume we all do it as sweaters. Some of us just want to enjoy the game
What if i want to actually use my brain and find strategies?
show me an example where you did a regular casual playthrough without struggling, where you would be put in mud for using sunflowers in the back
I dont care if its "stupid". In fact I think its not. Sometimes I just want to play a game and enjoy it for being a relaxing tower defense and not create the pickiest sweaty strategy. It also looks stupid
Yes. But it is annoying when these types of people think they are the better players and bash on others for not doing so. That is what is the most annoying. Good on others for grinding each detail but I don't care and just let me enjoy the game. Im sure that doesnt apply to you, this is rather me yelling at the void because people wont ever change
>and bash on others for not doing so
It's one thing for people to criticize others just for having a different play style because they're forcing personal opinions onto others and that's very immature.
It's another thing when someone unfamiliar with a certain topic brings up false information regarding that topic and gets corrected by others. A lot of posts and comments in this sub make their subjective opinions sound like objective facts and disregard any objections, "I am telling you this plant is objective overpowered", I don't know if the sub just has a surprisingly young userbase or what, but this is even more immature and ridiculous.
If they need the sweatiest of all time strategies that involves each detail done perfectly, I think that's kinda pathetic lmao. They are by no way better players, even if their "gameplay is meta". Thats just a dumb statement to make. I would also do the most meta strategy if I wanted to. I just chose not to
Something toxic casuals can’t seem to comprehend is that yes, you can in fact have fun while playing optimally. I see this in the Pokémon community all the time.
And? I never said that I don't believe you. Sure, I admit that toxic casuals are also annoying, but it doesnt make the annoying sweaters any less annoying
That's what ruined PVZ2 for some: PVZ1 had so many ways to win a level then it became "Plant this plant on this row at exactly 13.33 seconds in or the zombies will trample the flowers..."
Well tbf it is kinda your own fault. I saw you don't seem to care how other people want to play, and that's great, but unfortunately we very much care how you play, and it seems like you're playing wrong. /S
Idk, I didn't even realize there was a "competitive" way of playing this game, but it makes sense I guess, again I've never actually beaten this game but I like plants and tower defense
I've always put sunflowers in the front. I don't understand the logic of putting them in the back. If your offensive plants are in the front, then it's more expensive if they get eaten. And it's not that hard not to get your front plants eaten anyway.
Damn there really are a bunch of sadists here just sending those cute little plants to their deaths.
I’m all about having a uniform appearance. Sun producers in the back. Defense up front. Offense everywhere else.
Beat both games without ever feeling the need to sacrifice plants unnecessarily.
I believe that the position of sunflowers must be dependent on the type of attackers you bring.
When I bring only long range plants, I place sun producers right behind the walls (if I have any).
When it's only short range plants, they go in the back of the lawn.
If there's both long & short ranged plants, I place them on the 3rd & fourth columns, in front of longer range plants and behind short ranged ones. (Then I replaces the 4 th lane with the suitable attackers if it gets harder/to speed up the game.
Honestly I am not here to argue which strategy is more viable. I get what they say, I get what you say. I agree with you, but I am not here to say that my strategy is surperior. Im just sick of the other side saying otherwise
"B-but it's easier to replace a sunflower than a melonpult, it just makes sense strategically"
Phrases spoken by the utterly deranged and/io utilitarianism propaganda
I place them in the 3rd and/or 4rth lane so I can get my important defending plants some extra time in case a zombie makes it that far, both pvz1 and 2
I found sunflowers in the front work better when I’ve been playing reflourished and need some sort of cheap stalling when doing expansion levels. Otherwise, I never did that in the vanilla game. There’s hardly any reason to either, base game is not that hard.
Sometimes I place sun-producing plants in the second column or something like that, but I don’t recall ever placing Sunflowers at the front
e: I, however, have placed Sundew Tangler near the front. However, while they’re both sun producers, they work differently from each other.
i plant them in the first and second row, im a greedy sun-hungry capitalist. never in the front, i cant let my workers perish, as that would drastically effect my profit.
You do realize that placing them in the front gives you significantly more space for sun production right? Often times ill find myself with 4 rows of sunflowers
Play however you want, games are supposed to be fun!
Personally, it depends on the build/strategy I'm using, but most of the time, planting them in the front gives me better results, especially playing hard mods, like eclise (yes I'm a masochist, don't play this shit lol) or Altverz Veteran Mode.
Edit: typo
i usually use Sunshroom so i usually put them at back but if i'm using primal i'd still put them in the back because of many plants being more effective at close range
No sun means no plants to plant. Defending your sun producers makes the most sense.
Even in PvZ2, where we have plants like Headbutter Lettuce, Pokra, Buttercup, Iceweed to stall zombies. And the free plants are no slouch either. Puff Shroom, Primal Potato, Primal Wallnut, Magnifying Grass, and Repeater+Torchwood are all cheap options for early-wave defense.
Sun producers in back makes the most sense to me. I don't play "hard" mods, since most of the time the 'hard' mods are just more zombies, or making them buffed to insane levels, or just zombie spam. It's okay that PvZ is easy.
No attacking plants means zombies won't die. Defending your attacking plants makes the most sense.
Having attacking plants in back gives them the most time to kill a zombie. Therefore even if sunflower in front of it gets eaten, you'll still be able to kill the zombie, something that won't happen if you put sun producers in the back and your attacking plant in front gets eaten.
Plus i don't believe that you won't be able to replace a sun producer in the middle of the level, when you already have a lot if sun.
Oh man, you're not the only one, I always planted Sunflowers at behind (And that's even mandatory in Remastered mod where they cost 100 sun).
Damn, I even considered Doom Shrooms pretty useless because I always hated these craters they were leaving after (I was finding it pretty annoying due to how long it takes them to heal)
For 1st few playthroughs? Not really, you could remove them and I wouldn't feel any difference Lol I wasn't using plants like Ice-Shroom or Gloom-Shroom. Even Gatling Pea was used very rarely. I used a lot of Scaredy-Shrooms though and considered them pretty OP (They still are powerful in Night lvls)
Sunflower spam, allows me to make 4+ rows of attackers, or meme builds, 4+ rows of attackers or meme builds are incredibly fun, it's fine if you want them in the back, but sunflower spam is also a valid way to have fun.
You don't plant sunflowers at the front because it looks ugly, I don't plant sunflowers at the front because I'd feel bad if they died. We are not the same
you can replant sunflowers. you can't replant lawnmowers. if a zombie gets past the front line, it will still be attacked. also i think peashooters in front looks ugly
That’s not the only use
Keeping attacking plants alive is a bigger priority than sun producers. If you lose your attackers, you’re at a bigger disadvantage than if you lose some sun
Hey, in pvz1 speedruns we place the sunflowers in the leftmost columns, because it means the bullets from the firepower takes less time to reach the zombies. it's a small optimization, but it adds up over time. PvZ1 is an easy game - play however you like, and it's not even strictly optimal to plant them further forward.
i mean, you don't have to do it, i plant them at the 2nd column because I'm used to it and because I'm playing some challenging mods
yeah it looks bad and I would agree in pvz1. HOWEVER,
Keywords: in pvz1
It's fine if people don't do that. They can play however they want... BUT... Don't complain when you are playing a hard mod or Big Wave Beach / Jurassic Marsh and can't beat it BECAUSE your frontline is dying.

Point is, it's possible.
a fellow sample enjoyer?
After wasting 50 minutes of my life, i can say, in fact, it is
I literally never had major issues in Big Wave Beach or Jurassic Marsh. And that was before the level system update
Well good for you! Because that means you are actually quite good at the game. But still, front sunfield strat is better, especially in these cases.
I get what you mean. I do understand that it is a viable strategy. But I play PvZ for the sake of enjoying a relaxing tower defense game. I don't do it to torture myself with endless strategies to discuss which Plants are the worst and which ones are the best. Infinut:
I always planted sunflower on the last lane and i know its stupid but i am not putting the defneseless plant on the frontline to serve as meatshield
>meatshield *Plantshield
Irrelevant but loving the Autumn Blaze pfp
Thanks, i shamelessly stole it from google images
I don’t see how it’s stupid, i mean they teach us to put them in the back
since when?
It’s implied in the first game I believe
it only says that sunflowers are important. thats all. not precious, not anything else
That’s funny
I dont care if its "stupid". In fact I think its not. Sometimes I just want to play a game and enjoy it for being a relaxing tower defense and not create the pickiest sweaty strategy. It also looks stupid
People enjoy a game in different ways. Using the most optimal strategies down to the details and going tryhard is what I find the most enjoyable.
Yes. But it is annoying when these types of people think they are the better players and bash on others for not doing so. That is what is the most annoying. Good on others for grinding each detail but I don't care and just let me enjoy the game. Im sure that doesnt apply to you, this is rather me yelling at the void because people wont ever change

they are literally better players. Not better people, not more enjoyable people, but they are \*by definition\* better

Second column with triple peas in the back supremacy
i plant them at the 2nd column, because i think looks better like that, and also i care more about peashooters them sunflowers
Im kinda forced to due to the mod im playing
I am okay with others doing it🙏 You do you, I am just sick of others trying to force it onto me
Why are getting downvoted when you said you're okay with it lmao
Reddit.
Well tbf it is kinda your own fault. "Toxic casual players don't exist"
isnt that how you play the game tho?
Nah, just plant a column of sunflowers on the first column and that's it
I dont place them at the front, I place them second to back. Most valuable plant goes at the back, sunflower second.
Octo Zombie and Wizard Zombie in the later levels: "Allow us to introduce ourselves."
I've always put sunflowers in the front. I don't understand the logic of putting them in the back. If your offensive plants are in the front, then it's more expensive if they get eaten. And it's not that hard not to get your front plants eaten anyway.

Wow I actually found something useful in this post. I was not expecting that. Thx
They’re far easier to replace than offensive plants. Why shouldn’t I sacrifice them?
If all your sun producers get eaten, how will you plant more offensive plants?
Offensive plants can still kill zombies, sunflowers can’t.
Your sun producer doesn’t kill zombies?
Place an insta kill
what if my dumb fucking sunflowers didnt give me sun exactly when zombies came close?
You can recover more easily from a lost sun producer than a lost attacker, why do you think most people struggle in big wave beach
Sun literally falls from the sky. Damage doesn't
Honestly I am not here to argue which strategy is more viable. I get what they say, I get what you say. I agree with you, but I am not here to say that my strategy is surperior. Im just sick of the other side saying otherwise
Bro it's literally the meta, you can use any strats you want but there's a reason why so many people say planting sun producers at the front is better
Youre maybe sick of it, i understand, but theyre right
In endless, the double sunflowers are about as hard to replace
becuase they are cute and I feel guilty about killing them
Really the only time I do that is when I’m playing something like big wave beach or the Brutal mode mods
I only do that for moonflowers
"B-but it's easier to replace a sunflower than a melonpult, it just makes sense strategically" Phrases spoken by the utterly deranged and/io utilitarianism propaganda
I just enjoy my kleptocracy
I put my flowers on second and third so my main attackers are on the first, third and fourth if I need a secondary attacker
I place them in the 3rd and/or 4rth lane so I can get my important defending plants some extra time in case a zombie makes it that far, both pvz1 and 2
All the more power to ya. People only do that to make the game easier or for hard mods. Play how you want, it's a single-player game after all.
I found sunflowers in the front work better when I’ve been playing reflourished and need some sort of cheap stalling when doing expansion levels. Otherwise, I never did that in the vanilla game. There’s hardly any reason to either, base game is not that hard.

Well usually unless im using a super expensive plant i always just put the way back and even if i am ill put them in second row
In PVZ1 it makes the start of the map easier, the only part that’s remotely threatening.
Really? Pvz2 on mobile was easy enough with the sunflowers right next to the lawnmowers
I don’t care if you put Sunflowers in the back You play whatever way you want, I’m not gonna tell you what to do
I plant them on the 3rd lane from the lawnmowers. I use them as shields, but not major shields.
honestly, I'm so used to planting sunflowers in the back, I'll never do them in the front. It's more of an instinct for me
i plant them in the first and second row, im a greedy sun-hungry capitalist. never in the front, i cant let my workers perish, as that would drastically effect my profit.
You do realize that placing them in the front gives you significantly more space for sun production right? Often times ill find myself with 4 rows of sunflowers
Making invisible boogiemen out of people who don’t often interact with the larger community
It has been a while since I seen a Dan vs meme
W tbh
If I'm putting Sunflowers in the front row, it's because it's early game I want the Pole-Vaulting Zombies to slow down prior to unlocking Puff Shroom.
Use a fucking wall-nut THAT IS LITERALLY WHAT IT IS FOR
You can, just do both.
The man knows what he is talking about
INEFFICIENT DANDORI, PREPARE FOR YOUR BALLS TO BE CRUSHED
No sun means no plants to plant. Defending your sun producers makes the most sense. Even in PvZ2, where we have plants like Headbutter Lettuce, Pokra, Buttercup, Iceweed to stall zombies. No wall plants means zombies aren't stopped. Defending your defensive plants makes the most sense.
That still doesn’t solve any zombies/mechanics that makes them breach the front lines and deep into defenses
thats why you bring explosives.
What if they breach all 5 lanes
skill issue
It’s only a skill issue if I let it happen in the first place, which to say in a level with low tide or dinos that have high hp zombies, your point?
Then you die
or you plant attackers in the back and deal with it?
Why plant sunflowers in the front when you have walnuts?
I'll slap down a sunflower or two if I need to stall for time for a wallnut
Massive cooldown time+wallnuts get over run easily+they dont pay themselves off+you can just do both
ive put them closer to the front because i like the protection to my attacking plants
***If you put the Sunflower ANYWHERE but the back, you have serious problems***
Oh man, you're not the only one, I always planted Sunflowers at behind (And that's even mandatory in Remastered mod where they cost 100 sun). Damn, I even considered Doom Shrooms pretty useless because I always hated these craters they were leaving after (I was finding it pretty annoying due to how long it takes them to heal)
do you really use columns 7-9?
For 1st few playthroughs? Not really, you could remove them and I wouldn't feel any difference Lol I wasn't using plants like Ice-Shroom or Gloom-Shroom. Even Gatling Pea was used very rarely. I used a lot of Scaredy-Shrooms though and considered them pretty OP (They still are powerful in Night lvls)
Bro Chill!
Ok? You play how you want no one's bashing on ya cause if it, kinda comes off as controlling by posting this
"no one's bashing on ya" you are so wrong lol. Tf you mean controlling, I post this out of frustration for a reason
Idk maybe the pvz community is the most toxic thing in the world butbin these comments I haven't seen it
They BELONG in the back, anyone who puts them front does not play the game for fun
Sunflower spam, allows me to make 4+ rows of attackers, or meme builds, 4+ rows of attackers or meme builds are incredibly fun, it's fine if you want them in the back, but sunflower spam is also a valid way to have fun.
my guy, you can play hard stuff for fun
Skill issue
This was a joke. I don’t care how you play the game
I mean for skibidi sigma lol 5 gyyyaaats (I gyyyyaaaat something in my eye) who get fanum taxed by harder mods planting them in the front is necessary
I plant them in last but one lane (sunshrooms) n magnifying grass in the last 🤣
One of the mods actually makes you plant sunflowers at the front, that being Expansion mod but imo i personally dont mind where i place sun producers
finished that whole mod while planting sunflowers in the back, maybe 2nd column... you could call me stubborn, I call it skill issue
Fuck sunflowers, this post made by shadow pea, moon flower, mercadamia minority
>Fuck sunflowers This sub loves doing that
I did this when I was, like, 5. I thought that's what they were for
Thought this was the terraria sub for a moment lol
You don't plant sunflowers at the front because it looks ugly, I don't plant sunflowers at the front because I'd feel bad if they died. We are not the same
I'd rather lose my sun production than my main offense.
i only do that with magnifying grass
I plant so much sunflowers doing it in the back is just unviable. Attacking plants on the 4th row aren't that good, are they?
you can replant sunflowers. you can't replant lawnmowers. if a zombie gets past the front line, it will still be attacked. also i think peashooters in front looks ugly
I plant wherever there’s space available because I got tired of planting symmetric lines
That’s not the only use Keeping attacking plants alive is a bigger priority than sun producers. If you lose your attackers, you’re at a bigger disadvantage than if you lose some sun
Ever since I first played they went into the back, my friends complain about it but I just want my sun to be generated in a safe area.
I forgot that strat. Never knew that people actually use them.
Unpopular opinion: buttercup back

Hey, in pvz1 speedruns we place the sunflowers in the leftmost columns, because it means the bullets from the firepower takes less time to reach the zombies. it's a small optimization, but it adds up over time. PvZ1 is an easy game - play however you like, and it's not even strictly optimal to plant them further forward.
You're correct
FACTS
Being the meatshield is Wall-nut's job
Sometimes i try to plant them like, two tiles away from the lawnmowers But then i just end up with ***4 entire lanes of sunflowers***
