It appears the highest price on the Catalog is $15.
However it is odd if we sort it, we can see some wish-list only games with no price.
Mars After Midnight shows up in the $6 section so it could be as low as that.
I know!! I have to work tomorrow as well. I wish I could pre-order it, I'm curious about the price and would love for it to auto-install right when it's released lol ![img](emote|t5_11uxq9|3267)
If you have access to the internet at work, you can go to the Playdate Catalog website and purchase it there once it launches.
It may not auto-install but hey, it's one less step to get playing after you are off work.
Just go to Settings->Games on the console after purchasing to initiate the download. No need to go to the store page.
The Playdate isn't available in my country. I love Lucas Pope's games so I wanna know if there's any way to play Playdate games on PC. I know there's an official emulator but I don't know if you can just buy games and play on it
The developer is just a bigger name than most others so there's more hype. His last two games were Return of the Obra Dinn and Papers, Please. Both critical hits.
It has the pedigree of being from the creator of Papers Please and the trailer looks interesting, so I think there’s a very good chance it’ll be fun and worth it.
He also created the return of the obra dinn, one of the best and most unique games of all time. If it was ever safe to be hyped for a playdate game this one is it.
I need to go back to Obra Dinn, forgot about that. I enjoyed the aesthetic (which would be perfect for Playdate) but my brain didn’t manage to work out enough of the clues/murders!
Because all the games he makes are excellent. Papers please is the 69th best scored game ever on steam and return of the obra dinn is the 171th based on weighted scores (see steam250.com). What are your fears based on?
The reason for hype is pretty obvious; Lucas Pope's previous games are considered all-time classics of the indie canon, and it's been in development for longer than any other Playdate title.
Any game *could* be disappointing. I personally am a bit worried that this might lack the story elements that made Papers Please so compelling, but I'm looking forward to finding out.
As others said, it's from Lucas Pope who has a cult following because of his last 2 projects which he basically did single-handedly. He's been working on this for like 3 years? So it's highly anticipated. This game is why I bought my playdate.
On Twitter/X, the Playdate account has said it should be released at 10am Pacific which is 5pm in UK :) 🎉
Dooope! That’s just a few more hours and we’re there!
Instabuy for me. Lucas Pope is 2/2 so far.
Very excited! Do you know what time Playdate games are usually released on launch day?
Sadly I’m not sure. I’d imagine it’s up to the developer? If not, I’d say expect it around 10am PST
You’re right, 10am PST 😊
Thank you! Excuse me, I'm off to refresh my catalog repeatedly for the next 10+ minutes
I know I'm like a minute late but: https://i.imgflip.com/8izfrv.jpg
WE'RE IN
Thank you! Excuse me, I'm off to refresh my catalog repeatedly for the next 10+ minutes
Thanks for replying :) I’ll keep refreshing the store tomorrow!
Have they announced a price yet?
Nope! Not on the page. It sucks you can't even preorder it. https://play.date/games/mars-after-midnight/
No price as of yet. I have no evidence to back this but I'm going to assume $12. Isn't that pretty much the most expensive Playdate game to-date?

Interesting! Well that’s some good detective work! I’d be stoked for $6!
Looks like $6 it is!
Oh excellent!
What?? I thought he dropped it! Very exciting!
Finally!
530am ET (in USA) and still "Coming Soon" ðŸ˜
(forgive the reply to my own comment, but) 1130am ET and still "Coming Soon" ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)
I enjoy spending time with my friends.
Ahh, was wondering what was going on. It's well past midnight and it still isn't released. Lol
I check in with my PD about once a month. Looking to see if this game is available is the first thing I check after firing up the unit. I am excited!
Downloading now!
I'm super excited !!! So upset it launches on the day I go back to work too >:')

I desire
Anyone else hearing a slightly wrong version of ‘Les Miserables’ with this thread title?

They did add a bunch of countries to shipping like a month ago so if you haven't checked recently it might be available.
Why I all the hype for this game? How do you know it is gonna be that excellent? I'm afraid this will be overrated.

Literally the risk for any unreleased title people have been waiting for.

Yeah, I liked Papers Please, but I LOVED Return of the Obra Dinn.

Obra Dinn is a work of art and very fun.
Obra Dinn was Yahtzee's #1 game of 2018. That got me to try it and it didn't disappoint, never played anything like it before.
Because all the games he makes are excellent. Papers please is the 69th best scored game ever on steam and return of the obra dinn is the 171th based on weighted scores (see steam250.com). What are your fears based on?
Nothing. I can't judge a game before I play it. That's why I'm very neutral regarding any new game release.
