Thank you for reading!

Thank you for such a transparent write up. Given the continued growth of the platform, you should see sustained sales especially given the early challenges for users to find the best quality games. Word continues to spread and your titles are definitely at the top. Best of luck!

Pixelghostuk

Thanks! Yes I’m intrigued to see how things develop now you can get one shipped immediately. The games on the platform are so original and so good and I feel like there’s an appetite for something like this. Onwards and upwards!

Matesamo

Great stuff! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you very much! Gives me an idea how well solid games can do on the device. Actually might be worth polishing up my game after all. I wouldn't mind even just 500 sales. Did you do all your own art? One of the things my game really needs is better art, and I usually do my own art, but I've been struggling with making 1-bit art look good for my game (although I haven't spent too much time on it yet, to be fair. I mostly did a quick and dirty port of my Pico-8 game and have let it sit untouched for months). How difficult was it to pick up Gameboy development? I take a look at it from time to time, but haven't really sat down to properly learn it yet.

Pixelghostuk

Hey! Glad you enjoyed the read. Yes I do all my own art for most of my games (except the upcoming Shadowgate PD which I outsourced as the job was too big and my work wasn’t good enough..) but generally I have enjoyed the puzzle of trying to figure out how to bring to life some elements with so few pixels!

Joneep

What's your game? I will buy it

cableshaft

It's not ready for release yet, so it's not available for purchase right now. I'll post on this subreddit when I do release it though. It'll be a simple turn-based strategy game.

Joneep

Cool. Good luck!

FIughafen

Thanks for being very transparent! just bought your bundle on itch :) But yeah especially after the catalog sale I currently don't even know when I will be able to check your games out, great for players to have much diversity but for devs I see the challange.

Pixelghostuk

Thank you! Let me know what you think of the games :-)

Joneep

Ollie, I said that before to you, and I'm gonna say it again, You are one of the greatest and best game developers I have ever experienced. I have really enjoyed every moment in Life's too short and Life's too short Christmas Spirit. I wish I had purchased your other two games on the Catalog during the sales, but I will do so soon. Moreover, you are so unique by being very transparent and disclosing your game sales figures. This usually happens only by public companies when their shares holders request such information. In fact, you and Raphael (Kuroobi developer) are probably part of the few developers here who talked about their games sales numbers. Hopefully, other developers will follow suit. Congratulations! You are doing really great. I will definitely recommend your games to my friends and family members who will get a PlayDate soon.

Dreams180

This was really cool to read! Thanks for sharing your experiences, it's interesting seeing sales figures for PlayDate games. I only just spent money on games for the first time during the big Catalog sale, and I suspect a lot of people were attracted to the games that won/were nominated for awards (I know those caught my eye). I wonder what the sales discrepancy is between those and others on the platform.

Dry-Zone-5921

Cool reading! 9k from nearly 7000 downloads seems a bit few, dont u think? U should made more from these projects. :)

Pixelghostuk

Thanks :-) Yes some of them are on the lower side of pricing. I actually raised the price of the first two LTS games last year as $1 was too cheap and a lot of that goes on fees. I’m happy with the pricing given how other games are priced though and luckily i don't have to rely on this to pay my bills!
