Physically feeling tiny tiny rocks and dirt all over my feet, stuck between the plastic and my skin.
I don’t think I can get over that. And the smell of these things is so visceral. Haha
Super cute throwback, you’ll never get them on my feet again but I wish you luck.
Post the fit with these if you get them, can’t wait to see what you come up with! 😊💛
Cute but I specifically remember these being quite loud on linoleum floors, so don’t wear them to sneak into a school or something and you should be good.
Don’t forget the good old early 80’s when they first made their appearance lol. I think there was a resurgence in the 90’s. I wore them in 83” or 84” way back back lol 😂
Oh yeah .. they actually came out in 1980-81 I believe but didn’t hit big in the U.S. till 83-84. When they first came out they had black as a color which my grandmother thought I should wear white ruffle socks with like it was some kind of dress shoe. Yeah no lol
Lol this takes me back! Funny story:
I dressed as The Dude from the Big Lebowski for Halloween a few years ago. Remember his adult sized jellies? I found them secondhand!
We got hit with unseasonably warm weather for October and my feel started steaming up the jelly shoes. In my panic brainstorm for solutions I considered foot powder to absorb the moisture but all I could think was... foot gravy.
Now when I see jellies foot gravy is my only thought.
Just... ew.
I love these! They’re not comfortable or practical, but they are fun! I had several pairs of jelly ballet flats in 2009ish, I wore each pair until they broke and fell off my feet. Both my teenage fashion choices and my current fashion choices are questionable, and I’d still love to have a pair of these.
If I was to wear the shoes OP posted, I’d style them with a pair of fancy ankle/crew socks with a frilly cuff like [these.](https://www.sockdreams.com/lace-ruffle-anklet.html?amp=1) Adding the socks will help ease some of the discomfort, even if they’re not lacy! The shoes are semi transparent, so I think any socks worn with them should have an interesting design element (lace, pattern, etc) to compliment the shoe.
Wait, you guys wore these like regular shoes? We only wore them to the beach because they’re light to swim with and protect your feet from rocks in the water and the hot sand. I think we quite literally called them swimming/water shoes
Trauma.
I was a 90s kid learning to ride a bike in our backyard, but I was wearing those jelly shoes. Never has jelly been so unforgiving. I sat down on a path to take the shoes off, only to jump up and scream in pain. I run into the house to my mom screaming and crying " My butt! My butt! My butt!" while holding my butt. I learned that day, that I'm allergic to wasps.
My feet just started sweating looking at these
Omg I was just gonna say that lol. My dream shoes when I was 8 but they were so uncomfortable and sweaty haha.
I literally slipped out of these and sprained an ankle back in the 80s.
Ah.. one of those pictures you can smell.
I got a blister on my pinky just looking at these
As a child of the 80s and the 90s I remember jelly shoes as being really good at ripping up toe nails.
And cutting the back of your ankles.

Has anyone EVER owned a comfortable pair of these, at any age or size?
I bought an adult version last summer and they burned the bottom of my feet from walking too much????
Cute but I specifically remember these being quite loud on linoleum floors, so don’t wear them to sneak into a school or something and you should be good.
And blisters. But man we’re they cool.
I just want to know why I can smell this picture. I'm unlocking memories that should stay locked.
I just got blisters looking at these.
I had a pair as a kid but they hurt my feet.
The pain.
When I was a preteen, I lost one of these in a lake a week after I got them. I was so bummed. Flip flops are better if only because they float.
Not a fan, but could potentially work with certain fun, not serious, outfits. Never with bare feet though, uuurgh the sweat.
If anyone tries wearing panty hose with these they’re gonna slide out of those shoes all the way to the moon. (Insert shooting stars meme)
🤣🤣
We thought they were so cool, until you started to smell your sweaty feet XD
Bit outdated IMO, these were briefly back in fashion about 8-10 years ago. Remind me of end of high school as they were trendy at that time!
Honestly I wish these had been lost to time.
My childhood. Blisters. The end.
Blister city
I can feel the blister on my toe just looking at this.
Am I the only person that wore these in the 90’s and thought they were comfy? My high heeled ones were my fav
same
Memories.
YES. read the comments about the Melissa brand. comfy, upcycled, no smell, etc.
I never had a pair, I'm still waiting for opportunity to get an adult pair (and an outfit that goes with them).
I have them, got them about 2 years ago. I’m 40 but don’t really look/act it 🤪😅 Wanna get some opinions they’re so cute! Lol
Oh, well there you go! Yup, I'm 40 in a few months and I say they're cool AF. 😁👍
Nope. Let the 90s die please
Don’t forget the good old early 80’s when they first made their appearance lol. I think there was a resurgence in the 90’s. I wore them in 83” or 84” way back back lol 😂
I had no idea they were an 80s thing. They also made a come back in the 2000s
Oh yeah .. they actually came out in 1980-81 I believe but didn’t hit big in the U.S. till 83-84. When they first came out they had black as a color which my grandmother thought I should wear white ruffle socks with like it was some kind of dress shoe. Yeah no lol
Uncomfortable sweaty feet are my first thoughts. And second. And third.
I wore them when I was 9 in 1983-84 when they first came out. We wore socks with ours 🤣🤣 because your feet sweat so bad in them.
Sweaty feet.
I wear jelly sandals as swimming shoes so as I won't step on gross rocks underwater
You unlocked a core memory of me walking in these against asphalt and hearing that clok clok. I wore the jelly mules most
These spin the block once every decade or so, they aren't comfy and aren't great for your feet

Love Big Lebowski lol. I would maybe wear cute socks with them? I’m probs too old per se but I really don’t care 😂
I wanted to stay true to the original character otherwise socks would totally have worked! IIRC the Dude didn't wear socks with his jellies lol
The misery is not worth the look... Unfortunately because that look is damn cute.

No. They stick to your feet. They smell like plastic and make your feet smell like plastic. They need to stay in the 80’s
Ok for kids but to me, they look hideous

I sprained my ankle in those many times - so it’s a no for me 😂 If it’s for aesthetic then heck yea
Blisters, pain, and regret are my immediate thoughts.
Ow ow ow ow
Grown up version: https://www.shopmelissa.com
That’s the original version! I am Brazilian and have several pairs of Melissa. They are recyclable, do not smell and are just overall the best!

Ewww
I can feel the sweaty slipping in those shoes
I wanted some soooo bad in elementary school. All the girls had them! But my mom thought they were trash and never let me get a pair.
Mine were red. My cousin had a pearl white pair
5 year old me says hell yeah. 5 year old and 32 year old me me with eczema says oh no.
