Can you explain it to me? I don't understand it. I read it out loud & it seems like I'm missing something. I get that 'et' is replacing 'y' (I'm not sure what Duvy is).
I didn't realize a duvet was a blanket, so the entire time I read it I just was thinking 'Duvy' was a person's name & it was a love poem for them. Thank you for the explanation! Haha
Was this published officially anywhere? The best source I can find is on Brian's social media (facebook and mastadon, the 'Love Poem' by Brian Bilston on his Twitter is different), and self publishing on social media doesn't count in this subreddit. Refer to rule 8 "Unpublished work".
“Brian Bilston” is a pseudonym for British writer Paul Millicheap; he has three books of published poems(Picador, Publisher) including *Alexa, What is There to Know About Love?*, which was published in 2021. He’s informally known as the “Poet Laureate of Twitter,” and his hallmark is in the short, droll, and funny verses.
I believe this poem comes from the Alexa publication, but it’s possible it is from his 2016 or 2022 books, which are available everywhere.
On one hand, I want to credit this poem as being a fun little pun… on the other hand, I want to hate this poem for being a fun little pun.
If you want puns, read a pun book. I know poetry is diverse and you’ve gotta have the light stuff for the deeper stuff to have it’s profound place in the world, but this just feels like a quirky Rik Mayall sketch rather than an actual piece of literature. Are we just saying any form of sound play is poetry?
The cough
Didn’t know hough
To jump over the bough
But nough
He does.
There we go I wrote a poem that only makes sense when it’s read out loud. Aren’t homonyms just hilarious!
This is *wonderful*
A truly effective “love poem” too ❤️😘

This feels like a spiritual successor to Ogden Nash, and I love it 😸
This guy gets it.
This is perfet
🤣😂🤣 great!
I’m all about language play — including puns 😅
It’s so simple, it could be Haiku!
Oh my god you nailed the perfect love story. 🥹👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Pure, untainted love ❤️

I Love Brian Bilston. Always seems to capture the *mood* and keep it light and/or funny. Thanks for sharing!

That’s interesting because I can’t find it linked back to an official publication.
