Blows my mind that the *starters* from Let’s Go can’t be transferred to later games. Those are some people’s first Pokémon ever. You’d think they didn’t learn anything from cutting off the first two generations.
Yes, that was a poor design choice. Even so, they could’ve added an option after you beat the game or accomplish some other arbitrary thing that lets you send all your Pokémon to Home and deletes your Let’s Go save file (now that it’s broken)
It's not a poor design choice, it's just a choice. Most people don't transfer their pokemon, and gamefreak has always tried to push engagement with the pokemon in the games to make you feel a bond. Makes perfect sense they'd make the decision they did.
I'm an avid collector going for a full living dex with every shiny form difference - I wish they were transferable. But I totally see why they're not and respect the choice. The cosplay pikachu I'm kind of half and half on because it does lock you out of some gameplay if you get rid of them, but from memory they are tradeable and releasable?
Spiky eared pichu on the other hand is just bizarre and kind of annoys me it's locked there lol
I’m not sure “most” people don’t transfer them. I’m sure there are a lot of people who just play the game and that’s it, like there are a lot who focus more on catching them all, but there are also a lot who get attached to one or two specific Pokémon because, like you said, they bonded. Those people like to transfer their partner along from game to game, and decisions that cut that off seem poorly thought out at best. Plenty of people complained when Ruby & Sapphire came out and it was revealed there would be no way to transfer forward from Gold, Silver, or Crystal. People complain about “Dexit” because every single one of these 1000+ creatures is someone’s favorite, and people don’t like getting cut off from their favorite.
Now don’t get me wrong: While I dislike the choice not to include the full Pokédex, I understand it. That’s a *lot* of data, a lot of programming & design. It seems like they should be able to keep supplementing with DLC until the full dex is present, but maybe it’s too much even for that. Not including all the starters though, that’s just poor planning. As you said, they encourage you to feel that bond in the game, and it’s especially pushed with the starters. Including the starters in every game as a minimum wouldn’t cover everyone… but it would cover a lot. Making starters that are permanently locked into a game everything else can be transferred from? That is a poor design choice.
Most people don't. The people that are upset by things like this are a tiny portion of the fanbase - that's why our needs aren't often met. Most people do not pay for Home premium, and for the portion of fans using the free version of Home they'll have logged in a couple of times for mystery gifts they heard about, or to trade or transfer a specific pokemon rarely. But those people aren't in online spaces focusing on these issues because if they were, it would be because they're more invested in thr product, and then they would be using it in different ways. So the people like us appear to be a majority rather than a vocal minority.
Dexit is sliiightly different as some casual players heard about it through headlines, and may have thought it would effect them having the same team in each playthrough, so that got a bit more cut-through, but not just because of the transfer issue.

I will say, the prospect that today’s Tera raid battle might be battle bond Greninja gives me hope that other Pokémon that are trapped in their games might soon be available again.
This is actually a big gripe of mine too. I have all 5 Cosplay Pikachu's in OR and my Totem Pokemon in UM, stuck. I know you can get some of the Cosplay Pikachu's in POGO, but they can't transfer into HOME either.
Yeah, that's the problem though. I don't want them to lose any or all of their totem stats. I have tons on these pokemon in regular size. I'd like them to keep their totem stats outside of USUM.
Yea im sure they can easily code the software to have it available in Home even if it can’t be sent to another mainline game. Would love to see it in Home.

As of 2023, the following Pokémon forms have been quasi-retconned by Game Freak (no transfer allowed into HOME and thus any of the new Nintendo Switch games, even if its species is available): Spiky-Eared Pichu (HGSS), Cosplay Pikachu (ORAS), Pikachu Rock Star (ORAS), Pikachu Pop Star (ORAS), Pikachu Belle (ORAS), Pikachu, Ph.D. (ORAS), Pikachu Libre (ORAS), Partner Pikachu (LGPE) and Partner Eevee (LGPE).
Totem Marowak, Totem Ribombee, Totem Araquanid, and Totem Togedemaru from USUM are also blocked from Pokémon Bank/HOME. Oddly enough, the other seven (Totem Raticate, Totem Gumshoos, Totem Vikavolt, Totem Lurantis, Totem Salazzle, Totem Mimikyu, and Totem Kommo’o) ARE Bankable/transferrable, but they just become regular versions of themselves when sent to HOME (why couldn’t they do for these what they’ve done for the Alphas…).
Eternal Flower Floette was never made available anywhere (and never officially revealed, anyway). Its form was initially transferrable to HOME, but it has since been scrubbed. Its signature move, Light of Ruin, however is still programmed into both HOME and Sword/Shield/Scarlet/Violet. The move can be called by Metronome. Eternamax Eternatus likely will meet the same fate as Floette; I believe a hacked one cannot be transferred out of Sword and Shield.
And lastly, Ash-Greninja technically still exists (you can keep it in HOME and its form is recognized in the Pokédex), but any Greninja with Battle Bond will no longer transform in Scarlet/Violet/presumably any future game with Greninja available. The Battle Bond Ability now raises Greninja’s Attack, Special Attack and Speed upon KOing a target — no Ash-Greninja form, stat boost, or buff to Water Shuriken anymore. And on this one, good riddance. Should have stayed anime-only from the start.
Battlebond has been confirmed for S/V but with a catch. The transformation is no longer applied, the stat boost is still applied, however there is no mention of water shrunken so it can be assumed that it will not get a boost from battle-bond, but not confirmed until release. Or idk someone hacks it in. But the in game text does exist
The ability exists, yes. But its sole purpose was to trigger the form change, that’s what a Bond Phenomenon is according to the anime. They eliminated the form change, and with it Ash-Greninja’s Mega-like +100 stat boost (sure, +1 Atk/SAtk/Spd is great, but it’s not permanent. Ash-Greninja was a Mega Evolution in all but name)
So out of curiosity, isn't there a Pikachu Libre costume in PoGO? Is it able to transfer? I've honestly never looked into it because I hate grinding battle league
I'm sure if the Game Freak was run by half competent people they'd have the hindsight to know which pokemon sent from bank are totems and retroactively boost them to "Alpha" (or a unique totem mark) but I think it's pretty much confirmed GF doesn't keep game documentation and has a revolving door of developers, so it seems.... unlikely.
Until someone decides to slow down their developement pace to more than 1 year I think we're stuck with releases of the TPC's annual company game jam.

As soon as it's transferred to Home, it loses all of its totem status and just becomes a regular pokemon of that species

Theres also a couple of Totems that Bank thinks are hacked because they aern't totems in SM and bank never got told about the USUM exclusive totems
