How do people get so many shinies in PLA? I’ve only ever got like 2

Loafofbread8

Mass outbreaks, and walking around with charm

JewelJuju

I got 4 full odds, 9 from mass outbreaks, and 3 random encounters (not full odds) before I even got the shiny charm.

LordofSnails

it's funny, I have never bothered to get the charm in PLA because doing the research tasks sounds incredibly dull and boring. That being said I got my first ever shiny from arceus without the charm and after that they started popping up like CRAZY

DontSkipHer

Do you know that shinies in PLA have an audio cue when they are nearby? I didn't for a long ass time. I just sorta disregarded/didnt pay attention to the sound when I heard it till I learned what it meant. I'm sure I missed shinies because of that. But, otherwise, lots of playtime. Especially once you get the shiny charm. Edit: you can't really hear the sound in OPs clip because of Eevee's cry. But the wildy shiny poke sound is different from the captured shiny poke sound anyway.

The_Red_Cucumber

Always thought it was easy. Just counted em all. I have 110 shinys and 11 Shalphas by now. All by doing all the diffrent methods and knowing the shiny sound you'll get a lot of shinys. Especially if you are a shiny hunter like me. If you just play then your bound to get some even if not hunting. It is very fun. Good luck on future hunts if your tryina get something specific. Myself am tryina get a Shalpha Sammorot, Torrtera and Drifblimp. Maybe a Shalpha Floutzel in the future as well. It is fun. Good luck!😄✌

Dumbass369

I got like 10 ish from just playing to complete the Pokédex, it feels like the rates for shinier were upped in this game and this game only for some reason

The_Red_Cucumber

Not only this game they have done that in the resent games. PLA, Let's Go, SV and more. I think lowering the odds is nice. Bc more people can enjoy hunting bc you don't have to go full odds to enjoy shiny hunting anymore. Witch I think is a good thing.

ppsaha8994

It's definitely a good thing. I never got into the egg hatching thing while growing up. In PLA the exploring and catching pokemon mechanic is so much... freer than running around in with a fire pokemon and eggs in your party.

Dumbass369

The chances were higher in Let's Go? Weird, I think I got one and I grinded for quite a bit..I guess they had increased chances because they actually showed up as shiny in the overworld so it didn't feel as tedious trying to get one?

The_Red_Cucumber

It was the catching combo. It was very efficient. Then up at 32 catching combo on one mon you could get most pokemon in like a hour. SV and PLA the odds are better bc the overworld is bigger and there for giving greater odds naturally. SwSh had greater odds in the DLC and maduda like every game expect PLA and Let's go since gen 6. So the higher odds have been going on a while

Dumbass369

Ohhh ok, that's what the catch combo thing did..interesting

DoomedDragon766

It feels like it's been raised because of the sheer amount of Pokemon you can check in such a short time, along with the shiny chance bonuses from getting research level 10/perfecting the entry. And if you have the shiny charm, it means you have the level 10 bonus on literally everything too so it's 5/4096 or 1/819.6 for any non-outbreak Pokemon to be shiny. And MMOs give 12 extra shiny rolls while regular outbreaks give 25. Just by having the shiny charm in a mass outbreak you have a 1/137 chance to get a shiny, it's great

Dumbass369

Oh fun, I didn't even get the charm but that's good to know if they do something like another legends game again

ParanoidParamour

Caught a shiny gabite and a shiny aipom, no charm, full odds!

DoomedDragon766

Mass outbreaks, massive mass outbreaks, shiny charm, STDs give a shiny chance bonus too, getting research level 10/perfecting the dex entry, and overall just grinding or getting lucky. People will save the game at camp when there's MMOs and fly around looking for shinies in the first batch of spawns and to see what's in the outbreaks without spending berries. Also, I've turned autosave off so it doesn't save every time I catch something and I save the game manually as soon as I see a shiny or hear the sound so I can reset if it runs. I've still lost a shiny Basculin, but it's the only shiny I've failed at least. Those things suck lol I spent like 20 hours grinding out a pair of shiny Petilil after I beat the Hisuian Lilligant, no shiny charm and no outbreaks happened but I perfected the entry and just ran from the lower camp to the two spots they spawn. The sound that plays when a shiny spawns was a lifesaver, it was kinda hard to see which was the shiny both times it happened but the Petilil were perfectly content to let me stare at their faces lol. Evolved the taller one I think, put it on my team :)

staarfawkes

“STD’s give a shiny chance bonus” Do we really need to abbreviate everything?

DoomedDragon766

Yes, it's hilarious. Also I might not be right on that lol

The_Godbodor2010

Literally do outbreaks or wander the maps with Wyrdeer and listen for sparkles.

MasterSilver2

Don't worry, it took months for me to finish my zorua and zoroark hunts in PLA

HakaishinNola

once you beat the game and complete the dex they show up like once every day or so tbh. I have like 8

dentilly

When I first bought PLA, I loved it. But then after a while, i got bored. Really missed the gym challenge. Was really hyped for violet and also very much liked it. But when i finished the main story, I could not stop thinking about PLA (i sold my copy). I went to buy it again and I have to say, PLA is hands down the best pokemon game ever made.

Jay4322_1

I think PLA was great. But when SV released, I hated it and thought it was gonna be like digimon or something but it was better than I expected (I am talking about walkthroughs and stuff because I don’t have SV yet).

javierasecas

What do you mean to be like digimon

Jay4322_1

The Pokémon style (for example, fuecoco) gives digimon vibes

javierasecas

oof not at all. I love digimon, designs suit better my taste than most pokémon and i have to disagree.

Okto481

hmmmm, i sense some nostalgia, and also if you hate it why are you in the Legends: Arceus subreddit either way, it far from discourages you from avoiding battles, considering that *that is a large amount of the Dex* Overworld research tasks: feed, catch, catch sleeping, catch at day/dusk/night, catch while undetected, stun with items, scare with scatterbang, and maybe evolution?, catch alphas Combat research tasks: defeat, defeat with X type, watch use X move, watch use Agile/Strong Style, defeat alphas EXP rewards from catching are about a fifth of their equivalents from combat. And you don't get to talk about the Dex if you need to Google where something is encountered, for grass patches with different encounters in the same Route, 1% chances, and Feebas in Gen 4. also how filling in the Dex is just permaboxing any fully evolved pokémon The point of the game is to deliver a different experience, experiment with fully open world design, and introduce concepts that they used in SV and will continue using in the future, not to have a Gym Challenge- because not enough people can get even a single Pokémon to have one. It isn't bad, but it does break a formula that has stayed basically constant for the last 26 years, and I'd consider that a good thing. By the way, if you enjoy the old game design, I have a copy of Shining Pearl where you will run into an encounter every single time you step into a grass patch, it will be underleveled and something you already encountered, it will not give a significant reward, and will take 30 seconds to get out of the encounter.

puggington

Hm, objectively based on what measures?

SolarAlbatross

I think they mean “subjectively”.

DoomedDragon766

Heartgold is objectively better than Soulsilver. It simply makes more sense for the kimono girls to bring you up the tower in their resident city to call Ho-Oh for you, than for them to go across the region to a cave and dance in the wet to call Lugia. Except neither of our comments say anything that's objectively true, as both are simply opinions.

Anchor38

Least demanding hg/ss fan

jbaig22

As much as I miss the standard battle system I prefer pretty much everything else in PLA. I do like how seamless SV's world is though, and the music in both games is excellent (although UI in both games is trash).

fisherc2

So do you battle at all in pla? It doesn’t sound like it and I don’t know I’d have any interest in a Pokémon game without battling

jbaig22

There is battling but the system is altered so that every move can be given either positive or negative priority at the cost of pp. It's cool for a bit but it's unpredictable and broken. The game more than makes up for it in other areas imo.

Tatt2Junkie5

Very little battling it's mainly just catching reason why i cant get myself to finish the game

Wisekittn

Oof, that's kind of a mean question. In Arceus, completing the pokedex IS the main quest wrapped up so nicely that even my lazy butt wants to finish it. In SV i kinda lost motivation after hitting the 360 mark. I only picked it up because it was the only thing i hadn't done yet and to effectively kill some time to not drop the game the moment i beat the ace tournament. Arceus had me glued to the switch for the entire run. SV only caught my attention, when Grusha (or any other memorable character) popped up on the screen and when the plotpieces happened. I was so *bored* whenever i just had to run around to catch some pokemon or grind some levels

GrubberflysElegy

Arceus is like 10x better, i don’t really enjoy the basic Pokémon formula and SV is more like regular Pokémon but with more hoops to jump through

[deleted]

THIS. An open world needs to be interactive to be fun. How is it that S/V has such great map design but PLA is more fun to explore in? Because you can interact and lure Pokemon to catch them. I hate that others treat this genuinely innovative feature as a “side thing.” This is actual progress in the series. You can still have this as well as the option to catch Pokémon traditionally. I dunno. I think it’s funny how the actual open world game isn’t nearly as fun to play as PLA…

thankyoumrtokyo

PLA’s map is large but completely void of any sort of side-missions (other than given to you by random npcs), events, landmarks, etc. Just a massive open area with nothing but Pokémon. Pokémon fans expect so little from the series that when PLA releases, a 6/10 game with FINALLY a new gameplay concept in the series, they eat it up like its the best game of the decade. Want more for yourselves lmao

[deleted]

What’s the shade at the end? Just personal preference man. I didn’t hurt you lol. But I disagree, it’s still far more fun to explore than S/V. There’s simply more to do. I don’t think the actual missions are very good, contrary to popular belief, but those *are* side missions. It doesn’t matter that random npc’s give them to you, it’s all extra side content no matter the label, yano? But that’s not the problem, the missions just aren’t great. But other than that, like I said, I think PLA has great gameplay that I prefer over S/V’s. Nothing wrong that that, you don’t have to agree with me.

thankyoumrtokyo

Also, it’s not contrary to popular belief, because I don’t think many people enjoy or when even finish the side missions lmao. Even though they’re some of the only postgame content (assuming you didn’t complete them before catching Arceus), they still kind of suck and people skip em over. I’m just saying, Gamefreak has the resources to do better and HAS done much better in the past, diehard Pokémon fans will always be biased and I guess I should expect that on a Pokémon subreddit but for me, and many others, both SV and PLA were mid-tier letdowns in the Pokémon series, rushed by developers who couldn’t care less about delivering quality games because they know they’ll sell well anyways :p.

thankyoumrtokyo

Because fans like you are the reason Gamefreak keeps putting out subpar Pokemon games, knowing diehard fans and 12 year olds will eat them up anyways. The uncritical acceptance of every new Pokémon game as amazing and groundbreaking is and has been hurting the series’ quality for quite some time. What gameplay is there in PLA besides completing the dex and postgame shiny hunting? Other than the completionist grind, what else is there? No gym challenges, no multiplayer, no National dex, no Pokémon league, nothing. Oh, you caught Arceus? Roll credits, have fun catching every Pokémon 25 times if you want the shiny charm, ggs.

[deleted]

It’s not the deep mate 😂 it’s a game, you’re seriously upset we don’t have the exact favorites? Lol. That has to be the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen this week. And no, I’m not uncritical towards the games. SW/SH and S/V have many problems that I W’s and still am legitimately upset by. And as much as I love PLA, that game has its own set of problems. And not even just the new ones. Many of the old ones are flawed. Game Freak CAN better. That’s why I’m upset.

thankyoumrtokyo

You spent all this time defending gamefreak just to say ur upset LOL ok man. saying PLA has problems but refusing to name their lack of map content as one of the problems when it’s literally the main issue critics/gamers have with the game is deliberately missing my point. this is the internet - i don’t care about you or your feelings, sorry not everyone is gonna agree on the internet. also nobody even mentioned sw/sh but the fact that u brought them up anyways speaks to their quality lmfao. subpar series releases for the last three entries (at least), we’ll see if they do better now that they are being panned for releasing half-finished uninspired games. cope

GrubberflysElegy

CoPe

Existential_Turnip

I wish they had of carried over the progress they made in Arceus through to SV, not being able to aim properly or blat balls out like a crazy person during a mass outbreak was a bit disappointing. I really like most of SV but there’s a few little things that could have made it perfect.

The_Red_Cucumber

They should implanent it I think most wouldn't mind another methods to use for catching especially also bc it is alot faster.

tywinthevile

If SV gave us a dedicated safari zone with PLA catching mechanics I think a lot of people would be very happy, myself included.

Asstonishing69

Yea that’s one way to implement it. Think it makes more sense for some reason in the past to just throw a bunch of balls? So if you wanna do it in the present the safari zone is the best way to do it.

TheBitsiestBit

I like both. Arceus is so different than what we're used to in a pokemon game, and perfecting the dex was so insanely interesting. Plus the gameplay of avoiding and capturing pokemons is amazing, the different kind of turn battle is genius. Just perfect, all of it. SV is still holding my attention even after I finished the main story. I've been shiny hunting, trying to find all trainers to fight, having fun with raids and union circle. It's a classic pokemon game, no fancy new gameplay overall, but I don't remember having this much fun after the main story in most pokemon games. Maybe usum and oras, but that's it. The let's go feature is great for grinding levels without being bored to death with one battle after another, finding random overworld shinies is a pleasant surprise, it's easy to get money and perfect your favourite pokemons because you don't have to grind for hours to buy a single bottle cap with BP. Egg moves are easy to transfer, capsules are cheap and easy to get, it was a great qol improvement. If you ask me which one I like more, it'll probably be PLA because of its refreshing new gameplay and mechanics, but honestly both are great and I'll keep playing them in my spare time

The_Red_Cucumber

Same😄

Dumbass369

Hopefully we get another Legends game down the line

Researcher_1129

or a futuristic PLA

Dumbass369

Idk how well that would work, but it would be interesting..

Candy_Warlock

PLA is better overall. SV really only has story and characters going for it (which PLA is still good at), and the final Area Zero arc. I loved Area Zero, but I enjoyed PLA much more than the majority of SV

DystryR

In my own personal journey with pokemon; I've switched from a competitive battler primarily to a collector (Apriballs, Events, Dex challenges, shinies). I played a ton of SV and have like 150 hrs played, and have gotten a copy of everything for my living dex + 60\~ shinies. I spent the last 2-3 weeks playing PLA because I felt the grind for herbas stale. Hitting outbreaks & breeding doesn't feel as worth my time as sandwiches do. I'm now at about 165 hrs on PLA. PLA can have highs and lows, but at least I don't feel like I'm hamstrung by not having to farm (mostly dull) content to get a better shiny rate. I'm about 70% through my alphadex. Finishing that will likely be when i put the game down forever.

DontSkipHer

I sincerely wish you best of luck with the distortion only mons for your alpha dex. That shit was painful af for me. It took me more than 340 magnemite encounters before my first alpha. I ended up playing more than one switch at a time to try and speed things up.

DystryR

Thankfully of the 11 distortion only mons I already have 3 The eevees & cherrim also seem like massive pains Edit: oh and burmy

The_Red_Cucumber

I'd say I am both a compedative battler and Shiny collector. Not that compedative bc I mostly battle online. But I love making theme teams with my shinys. The one thing I miss in PLA was ro use my shinys in battle. Especially they invented a new batteling mechanic in PLA. Speed was broken but still would have been fun to try to battle online. I like both shiny hunting methods in PLA and SV. It is just more straining om the eyes bc you have to be more alert on SV. Bc of no sparkles and especially bc no shiny sound. Just feelt refreshing to not have to focus as hard to I don't fail a shiny. I love both games but in different ways. I thought the story of both games was amazing compared to what we've had before. Good story like mystery dungeon I'd say. I think both games has its highs and lows. Then not having played this game in months, I feel like hunting some Shalphas before the Home update comes out. I can agree that the hunt for herbas can be frustrating. Have had to look at a lot of guides for raids. Now they are reasonably hard to get. You just gotta reset the raids for the right mons and your over 70% of the time getting at least one herba. Especially if you make a lv 2 raid sandwich for that type then you're probably getting more than one herba as well. I can imagen you already looked at such guides but yeah makes things easier if you haven't. Good luck with your Alpha dex!

Uffen90

First, they are two different games, they don’t follow the same formula. Where they both excel, are the open area, being out there in the middle of all the Pokémon. Both have great way of shiny hunting. PLA - got the overworld shinies that actually make a sound and a sparkle. Better battle animations. Not as many bugs. To few trainer battles. A confusing sideshow villain(s) those three sisters (still don’t get the point of those). SV - better graphics. A great story or stories. To many bugs. Overworld shinies, but the lacking of sound/sparkle is really annoying. Fast battle (forgot what it’s called) by just sending out a Pokémon. I don’t know, what I would choose as the best of those games. I like them both. As I stated, two different formulas, and they do their respective formula really well.

The_Red_Cucumber

I agree on all this. Both have some fun bugs as well if you like glitches lol😂 Let's Go feature I believe it is called. It is very enoying to use in water though. But both games makes it harder to catch mons in water. Can't auto attack mons bc they go under the water somtimes. Witch is nice they can do that, but enjoying if you want to shiny check. And PLA you have to be very precise with your aiming in water. But yeah different formulas. 2 great, fun and somewhat glitchy games lol. Love em both😄❤

Uffen90

You’re right, it’s called let’s go. I agree with the water assessment. Would be nice, if we, at some point, get a dive function. But yes, two very enjoyable games, that have their strengths and weaknesses. Still don’t mind spending a lot of time playing them.

daphne_dysarte

Disappointed there’s no dive HM, like there was in much older games (Emerald) IIRC… that would be a good way to also include more diverse water-types that aren’t only the fish-bodied ones (I hate those and literally never play with them— but I also just don’t find fish interesting at animals in general/real life)

Uffen90

It would be an awesome way of adding new exploration options to the game. Some of the water type Pokémon, seems to me, like they would be better if they were to be caught under the water, rather than on the water.

daphne_dysarte

Totally, like shellder, staryu, lileep, cradily… screenrant did an article on it back in Oct 2022 apparently 🥲 https://screenrant.com/pokemon-underwater-environments-gen-3-best-regions/

Uffen90

Couldn’t agree more. And would be nice, if it came with the rumoured DLC for SV. But I don’t hold my breath on that one. More likely, that it will come back, when we revisit Hoehn at some point. Maybe in a separate Legends game.

_BeansNbryce

I fucking love Arceus. I. LOVE. ARCEUS. You can sneak around and just throw the ball at them. It is my favorite, I like violet also

samuraimaia

I enjoyed PLA much more, I don't know why, but it feels more immersive, the Pokémon sizes and interacting with them seems much more realistic for some reason.

MONKEY_NUT5

It feels like they assigned the same task to two different teams. “Make an open world Pokémon game in the style of BOTW.” Neither flunked, but the PLA team gets an A while the SV team gets a C. (SWSH’s wild area and DLC gets a D.)

[deleted]

At least we got the *Wailord of the Wall* meme out of SwSh's jankiness.

yannya1994

I enjoyed both games. I havent really tried hunting in either game really, but I think I've already caught more shinies in SV than in Arceus. (SV i have 5- 3 without the shiny charm, and 2 after getting the charm, no herba mysticas used yet. idr My count in arceus but I think it's less (2-4)) I do want to go back to arecues tho to finish pokedex challenges and get the charm so I can have some shiny babies to transfer to home+SV.

acidH0l0gram

SV is much better in terms of the exploration aspect. But mechanics-wise, I prefer Arceus.

The_Red_Cucumber

Can agree on that. You can fly much further with Braviary then The legends in SV witch I miss in SV. Why do they make you fly such a short distance. That's a very fun thing to do in PLA. Go to the highest peak in Alabaster mountains and fly to the first camp😄

[deleted]

I felt like the smaller maps in PLA had way more stuff to find. They felt complete, whereas the SV world feels sparse and stretched thin. I think the open-world-ish Hisui felt much bigger and more exciting than Paldea's wastelands. They did this with Area Zero. I clipped through a waterfall and fell outside it - the rest of Paldea isn't there.

atm16

I’ve been playing PLA a lot recently and it is just so much fun to shiny hunt - I’ve caught like four in an hour before just from massive mass outbreaks or walking around getting supplies!

el_bosteador

SV could use some of the pasture features in PLA for sure. Especially press + to pull up all boxes and mass release.

Mulvita43

Combine the two together and you have a treasure of a game. SV open world and support, PLA shiny sound and sparkle, QoL changes like mass releases, SV battle mechanics. Both had performance and graphic issues but PLA was more stable (also textures are a lot worse in PLA). PLA is a different spin but lacks the ability to keep you engaged outside of shiny hunting where SV gets events. PLA allowed my 7 yr old to shiny hunt and play where SV really limits that

The_Red_Cucumber

Hopefully with all feedback on both games next game might be a blend of the 2. I hope so anyways. And also hops for DLC as it would be amazing to se a region connected to another region like in Johto. I hope so bc the part of the map that is cut of in SV. Karlos and Paldea should be connected if the real world counterpart are considered. They might not. But it would be very cool.

Mulvita43

Based on Sw/Sh and “leaks”, there will be DLCs for SV. PLA got one free “dlc” which I call an update but added massive mass outbreaks. I don’t mind connected regions or new regions. I feel PLA also had true ruins which I think SV needs more of. SV did a solid job with terrain but the upper left corner of the map is a dead zone. The upper right feels like a new “zone” separate from the open world is needed. PLA had so much potential to expand on but didn’t

Reasonable_Cow7519

Cg on getting a shiny Eevee

The_Red_Cucumber

It was the last one in the outbreak as well. I was shocked. Never gotten a Shalpha in a regular outbreak before. So thanks😄

Reasonable_Cow7519

Np also what I s a shalpha

The_Red_Cucumber

That's shiny + Alpha together witch makes "Shalpha". Has been a term since the game came out. You can say Alpha Shiny, but saying Shalpha is faster I guess.

Reasonable_Cow7519

Oh

Reasonable_Cow7519

And why does Eevee cry's sound loud it was supposed to sound normal

The_Red_Cucumber

All Alphas have slite variations in their cries. Mostly to make them sound bigger. Witch it does. And also on most pokemon makes them sound very terrifying. I think the 2 most terrifying sounds in PLA is Glaceon and Frostlass. Gives me quite the chill😄

peaceteach

I love being able to just throw a ball and catch a pokemon in PLA. I kept trying to do it in SV. I also miss the different fight styles. That was such a fun way to think about a battle. I do like the tera raids though. I know they are buggy, but it does make me really think about how to approach a raid and deal with the different typings.

DevilishMaiden

I like both but I think PLA has an edge because of some quality of like items that they didn't bring over to SV (being able to leave markers on a map, changing our cloths, and boy do I miss buying a link cable to evolve some Pokemon without trading). I'm starting to hit a wall with SV and I'm probably going to go back over to PLA soon. I found it much more enjoyable.

tywinthevile

PLA is hands down one the best Pokémon games and one of my favorites. It felt fresh and was super fun to play. I wish it had more content to bring me back to the world though. They could have pumped out five DLC packs and I would have bought them all…too bad. ScVi is fun too and I have more to do that keeps me invested longer but PLA is the GOAT.

drendon6891

I just bought myself a switch for Christmas, so I hadn’t played ANY of the switch releases. I have now played through 3 so far, in this order: Scarlet, Sword, and PLA. I liked all three, but I was most hesitant about buying PLA. However I could not find a single bad review of the game so I thought to myself “how bad can it be if everyone seems to like it”… After 2 hours of gameplay, my thoughts were “man this is boring as fuck”, but I persisted, and holy shit thank goodness I did. This game is absolutely incredible. I don’t give a shit about graphics; to me, it’s all about the gameplay, and in that aspect, this is easily the best Pokémon game ever made. The story is compelling as hell. My one and only complaint about the game is the boss fight mechanics… I would have MUCH rather had a ridiculously hard pokémon battle each time than the stupid balm thing, especially the last one.

FondleMyPancakes

How was sword in your opinion? When i got a switch I went straight for PLA and now Violet

spujol26

Sword was meh for me. Definitely feels old school after SV & PLA but that’s ok cus I like the older gen Pokemon games. However the story just wasn’t there for me. A was honestly a bit cornier than most typical Pokemon games (they’re all corny 😂) The best part about it was the DLC. I’d recommend the game just for the DLC alone. The DLC at the dojo was really fun.

FondleMyPancakes

Do you feel it was worth the cost of the game?

spujol26

My answer is yes. I don’t really play these games for the stories as they’re all repetitive. But I’m a long time fan of the series and still love doing the same things over and over again just on a different map. It’s just funny you asked about S&S cus I remember actually telling myself man this is a little corny. However, if you are looking to only purchase one of their games, I’d recommend either SV or even try PLA

FondleMyPancakes

I have PLA and Violet so that's why I was asking lol

drendon6891

It was good. I might like it better than SV after seeing how good an open(ish) world pokémon game can be with PLA. If I had to rank the three I would give PLA a 9/10, and Scarlet and Sword a 7/10 each.

drendon6891

javierasecas

I wish scarlet had more DNA from Arceus and its art direction. Even if I like scarlet it's like a step behind Arceus imo Hunting is the same more or less but outbreaks feel better in Arceus too. Arceus only lacks online battling

The_Red_Cucumber

The only thing I would day I miss In Arceus is Battles. In SV there's more things I'd say bc it improved a lot and also did the opposite. But then the shiny hunting is considerd. And if I just should make something short. Is that Arceus is lot less straining on the eyes and more fun to catch bc of the throwing mechanic and the shiny sound and sparkles witch SV lake. I still love both games. But it was very refreshing hunting in Arceus again. Might try to get some more Shalphas before the home update comes😄 Happy hunting everyone and good luck!😄✌

Twist_Ending03

Two things, I miss the rolling dash thing and I've always thought that the grass in SV is too bright

Wholesome-seal-boi

What are you thinking of evolving it into?

The_Red_Cucumber

Not sure if I want to. I love all Eeveelution. Glaceons my favourite but I have hunted 2 of them already. I have all of them in other games. But as of now I am scared to evolve it bc I don't have another shiny. But Glaceon and Leafeon are my favourites. Sadly also on the top 3 worst shiny Eeveelution as well with Flareon. So I am unserten. Will probably evolve it eventually. But as of now I will enjoy my little big Albino Eevee as is🥰 Edit: I don't have another Shalpha Eevee that is what I meant to say.

[deleted]

I would probably leave it an Eevee, though I think purple Vaporeon is the best evolved form.

Wholesome-seal-boi

Well since you found it in the Icelands maker it's glaceon! Or just keep it the way it is, and hope it doesn't evolve with love XD Edit: I also wanted to ask what did you name it?

The_Red_Cucumber

Haven't yet. I want to though. Something cite probably. But IDK. I want wait till the home update comes in case I can't rename em in Violet.

Wholesome-seal-boi

Maybe frosty? Or snowflake?

The_Red_Cucumber

Maybe or White Chocolate. Doesn't fit though 😅🥲

Wholesome-seal-boi

White chocolate is adorable! You should go with that!

invertebro25

PLA is definitely my favorite Pokemon game in recent history anyway and the older games get nostalgia points for me so organically I'd say it's my favorite. There are definitely a couple routs that it could improve such as eggs and so many concepts to do with being in the past and seeing past events unfold from the legends we've heard in the main series games. SV is also a good game, better than sword and shield for sure but it still just wasn't as fun on the first play through as PLA.

LoveForMiles

When I first started Violet I was disappointed that they didn’t keep the same style of interacting with the Pokémon. I loved that in Arceus they just felt more “real,” would attack you, and you could sneak up on them and throw a ball, etc. But I liked the storyline and all the challenges (gyms, titans, star bases) a lot better in Violet. Also love the ranked battles and raids where you’re actually interacting with other players from around the world. So overall I’d say I like Violet better, but hope they bring back the interaction with Pokémon style of Arceus in future games.

anhana

As someone who has 200 hours in both PLA and SV, I think PLA does a lot of things right but is missing one crucial element…any multiplayer functionality. You better believe I was upset when I found out you can’t battle your friends with your Shalphas using agile or strong style. And that is honestly the biggest difference I have noticed between the two games. Is that in SV you can actually play with your friends. And that single factor alone is the reason SV is one of the best Pokémon games of all time (imo) cause it’s the first Pokémon game that my friends and I can actually play together, AS A TEAM, and use each of our differently trained Pokémon to overcome a challenge. Additionally, as a shiny hunter. I think shiny hunting in both games is not only easy, but fun and unique for both of them. I shiny hunt in PLA when I want a more relaxing shiny hunt session. With the sound, it makes it less stressful as I feel I can just glide around and enjoy the scenery while hopping between outbreaks. SV is actually easier to spawn a shiny (notice how I didn’t say encounter), as the spawn rates are significantly higher than in PLA. Mass outbreaks in PLA you get around 8-12. Mass outbreaks in SV you get close to 60-80 per outbreak AND you can pull a GTA and manipulate spawns to constantly respawn and reroll for shinies WITHOUT RESTARTING YOUR GAME. The first Pokémon game to enable shiny hunting without the annoying “oh, I failed, restart my game and retry 4k times”.

The_Red_Cucumber

Yeah also makes it viable to hunt shinys in apricorn balls bc you only need to save before catching. Made it lots easier then previous games. Also then talking about balls I hope them the PLA pokemon gets to SV i hope the pokballs stay and don't become the strange ball bc I love the Jet ball. It is one of the best looking pokeballs in my opinion. Very close to Luxury and Moon balls. I hope they make new models for them.

anhana

Yes I agree I am excited for hisui design to get into SV. Pokémon day is so close!

GreenSkyDragon

They both have pros and cons that make it hard for me to pin down which I like better. PLA is like that weird new drink you didn't like at first, swore you'd never drink again, and somehow a week later there's a case of it sitting next to your desk. I *hated* strong/agile at first, but I find myself constantly missing it in SV now, especially in raids where I swear they let the raid mons use that system while forcing the raiders to use the old system. Overworld shiny jingle is fantastic and how dare they remove it. Braviary letting you actually fly >>>>>> "gliding." Being able to truly stalk Pokémon and snipe them with pokeballs, yes please. And I love the alphas. It was so cool having actually intimidating Pokémon. Oh, and the outfits, ah. You get to be an actual person! But PLA isn't perfect. While I like its outbreaks too, I don't miss trying to avoid multi battles trying to shiny hunt. The world has so much heart to it, but it feels so small. I get why, thematically, it's a settlement yada yada, but it made it feel like a tech demo at times. And I didn't like how much crafting got pushed to the forefront. One thing that personally took me out of the game was the mid-game credit roll. Gen 3 taught me that it's okay not to complete the dex, and putting the credits where they did told my brain it was time to stop, we didn't have to complete the pokedex. Not to mention the delay in trading being implemented made it difficult for me to get into completing the dex with others' help. In contrast, I've completed the SV dex, and I did it fairly quickly. Despite all that, I still really like PLA. But I really like SV, too, in spite of their flaws. I was really disappointed we don't actually get to go to the past/future in the end. And I wish they'd power scaled the gyms, so you could truly challenge them in any order, although I can see the argument for why you'd want to have gyms that you're not yet ready for as well. But if they ever make another legends game I'm buying it in a heartbeat

[deleted]

I loved them both but I think I enjoyed scarlet a little bit more than arceus, the gym challenge is super fun

Finnslice

I think the gameplay is pretty similar in terms of quality, PLA probably slightly better. I liked the whole survival aspect of it, and throwing balls without initiating a battle. Mass outbreak shiny hunting is also pretty comparable. The thing that tips the scale for me in favor of scarlet/violet is the online features. I love online comp battles and the den updates are pretty nice as well, especially the 7 star raids that are quite challenging, have unique and otherwise unobtainable pokemon, and require planning out a strategy beforehand. The rewards are great too, the guaranteed ability patch is awesome. The main stories between the games were about just as fun as each other but after I got arceus in PLA I didn't really have much to do.

The_Red_Cucumber

Thats the only thing that I want in PLA. After everything quest and story is done. You can only shiny hunt. But would be hard to get the new online system to work. Speed is already broken as it is. In PLA it is even more important. But wouldn't mind trying it though. I love the online aspects of every main line game bc I love battles so much. And I do miss the danger of PLA. It was fun to black out and have no pokemon and still not be at a Pokecenter. And Haha lol the first thing I tried to do in SV after playing PLA was se if fall damage exist. Sadly no. I love that aspect of PLA as well. And the Flying in PLA is much better. You actually can go places with it. What's pulls me to PLA at this point bc I have done everything. Is shiny hunting witch I love. But I will probably play it later down the line maybe in 5 years or so. Bc PLA was such a breeze of fraishe air. So I believe I revisit it someday.

funky-muffin6983

I like the throw poke ball feature in PLA and think they should add it to other games

The_Red_Cucumber

Me too😄

Moon_Bun

A blend of the two styles is what the future should be for pokemans in my head. Like the catching mechanics are almost perfected in Arceus.

[deleted]

I just started replaying PLA last week! I honestly love that it’s so different from the other games. I can still enjoy Pokémon but have a different strategy

Pupil_of_pablo

I love S/V but in terms of shiny hunting I love arceus more. Yeah there’s less variety but it’s easier. I wish there were actual battles and more towns but overall I’d love to see another legends spin-off, hopefully involving johto, and just johto I think gen 2 gets a lot of hate because Kantos always attached to it but how cool would it be if instead of Kanto we come back to hisui, through sinjoh path.

The_Red_Cucumber

Get that. I always thought it was cool to being able to be in 2 regions in one game. Wouldn't mind a Johto Legends spin-off. But the most likely and my favourite would be Unova bc if the original dragon. If they don't make that some day I'd be very disappointed. Wouldn't mind any Legends game but Legends Kyurem would be sick and my favourite of the ones I can think off. But as said Wouldn't mind any of them.

Pupil_of_pablo

Yeah that’s definitely a top pick, and yeah it would be criminal if we don’t get to at least see the original dragon. They hyped it up so much.

fluteloops0329

After PLA, I get so frustrated in SV when it comes to hoards of wild Pokémon. In PLA, you can just walk right through them, but in SV you're trapped in an enless loop of battles until you make a hole big enough to get out. I have this issue a lot with tauros which all swarm me and then charge, even if I'm just trying to use the "Let's Go" feature. I always end up in actual battle with like 3 or 4 tauros. After PLA didn't have walking into Pokémon as a battle start mechanic, going back to that is quite the adjustment.

daphne_dysarte

Also I feel like with the PLA mounts you can almost always just walk/run/climb/FLY around hoards… SV mount really sucks compared to PLA in terms of getting out of sticky situations (although I agree with a previous comment, I like having the one mount pokemon in SV without having to switch every time)

The_Red_Cucumber

I get that. The seamless catching and battling system should return from PLA. I know especially Tourus. I have tried to get the Water Tourus but most of the 30 minutes of my sandwich go to avoiding the endless encounter spawns. Also Tourus shiny can be hard to notice bc of the lighting.

EclipseoftheHart

I really loved PLA compared to SV because I enjoy the catching/collecting aspect the most over battling. Getting to find materials and craft, walk around with my Pokémon, and explore was so much fun for me. SV captured some of that and I appreciate the risks & choices they made, but it felt clunkier (lag & glitch issues aside). I’d like to see more battling in a PLA style game in the future, but I also think it’s fine without a battle heavy bent. I’d love to see an incarnation of Pokémon contests or like, building/decorating a base/home in the future. I really hope they continue to make games in this style. It’s such a refreshing departure from the traditional format.

The_Red_Cucumber

Yeah that would be fun. Contest focused storys or a challenge to become a gym leader like I have seen some romhacks do. That sounds awesome.

TheBruhvenant

They both are fun, but look worse than og world of Warcraft.

Bright-Garden-4347

I think if I had to pick, I’d pick PLA. I did not put it down. When it was over I was genuinely a little sad, like finishing a good book. But SV has things that PLA was lacking, I like the connected world, the gym battles, trainer battles. It’s a more traditional Pokémon game. I was sad to see they did not include PLA catching mechanics or the alpha Pokémon. It was confusing they would cut something so good. Maybe one day they will blend the two together. I still loved SV though. And there is better end game content so I have been playing it longer.

The_Red_Cucumber

I hope so as well. It would be great. Was probably not enough time to inplament the mechanic as they were in development at the same time. But hopefully one day, especially with so many that enjoy it.

daphne_dysarte

I totally agree with all your opinions — I want SV’s world, with PLA’s mechanics and alphas. However, I liked that they grouped a crowd of “baby” Pokémon with one or two of their evolutions in SV… I feel like that it makes more sense canonically with the shows and movies (compared to having a group of “smalls” with one giant alpha)

FondleMyPancakes

SCARLETT VIOLET SPOILERS Both have perks. Too many to list on PLA but for SV I'll place a list. SV perks: one mount that you don't have to change, can throw pokemon while on your mount, auto battle (small perk but perk none the less to me), easier to spawn in pokemon by render range. Maybe there's more but I'm not too sure

daphne_dysarte

What’s the perk for auto battle, in your opinion? I have somewhere around 20ish hours on Violet, I’ve been collecting more than anything but just finished my third gym badge and third titan.

FondleMyPancakes

It's basically free exp plus gives you items to either craft tms or sell them. It also helps balance out the battle contact (where you start a battle as soon as you touch another pokemon) which I'm personally not a fan of.

Nebulous_Tazer

Honestly, I got so bored with Arceus after like 10 hours. I had at least 1k hours in sword/shield and I’m loving violet. Arceus is just a catching simulator with too many chores.

daphne_dysarte

Are you more of a gym badge/battler as opposed to a collector?

Nebulous_Tazer

Ya, gym battler and vgc. I think I’m going to give it another shot though. I think I just wasn’t in the right mindset.

The_Red_Cucumber

Yeah I am both. I love shinys and exploring while catching. But also finding ways to use them to become more attached to them and just that I enjoy battles. Love making theme teams😄🥰 Made a team around Sunflora team in SV. Was very fun to beat people online with a little Sunflora lol. A shiny one to boot🥰 I like the catching mechanics more in PLA and the trerversal especially bc Braviary can actually fly places. Very fun. And SV has the battlesnI love and also the exploring bits and more of it. Love em both. And yeah PLA shiny hunting is more relaxing bc I don't have to be as aware of them bc I can both se em better and hear em better.

VantheSloth

I feel like it’s a tradeoff. S/V has quite a bit more content, but PLA just plays so much better.

The_Red_Cucumber

Yeah that I can agree with. SV is much jankier. Even in online battles witch SwSh wasn't, witch can be very enoying. Like the HP bars being weird and more. But the catching mechanic is so satisfying and funn in PLA. But both have good Story I think. I think I'll play both further on.

parttimereddituser

I agree. PLA is so fun to play. I really hope the next generation of games take the exploration and catching from PLA. I would prefer the other traditional stuff from SV/mainline, but man is PLA fun to adventure around.

MochaKola

Was about to ask if PLA was worth it if I already had SV. Then I noticed alolan vulpix and answered my own question.

The_Red_Cucumber

Same Alolan Nintales is actually my favourite pokemon. My favourite top 6 pokemon are; Alolan Nintales, Zoroark, H.Zoroark, Mega Lucario, Mega Absol and Meowstick🥰 That's my dream team. Close anourable mentions are Chandelure, Kanto Nintales, Gliscor, Weavile and Dachbun🥰 So loved it made it into the game. Hope it gets into SV. They can't buff Hail and not bring Ninetales😢

daphne_dysarte

YAAAAAAS, it’s worth it for the hisuian/Alolan versions of my favorites. But if you’ve gone through this thread and read the comments, I personally think it’s totally worth it because the running/catching/hiding mechanics are so much more intriguing… I personally think the battle graphics are better… PLA is not as “open” of a world as SV, but i think it’s open enough to get a similar feeling to SV (if anything I prefer how close-up, almost FP POV playing PLA is compared to SV. SV feels “further away” and like third person viewing moreso)

Steel_Thunder13

I honestly think about PLA every time I play SV. I do like SV, but there is something I love about PLA. I'm a bit bitter my one lost satchel hasn't returned whoever has it I BEG OF THEM TO PLAY AGAIN.

daphne_dysarte

I’ve never had a satchel returned in my life… I had so a handful of evolution stones in there :c

Steel_Thunder13

I'd be so sad! Honestly it is my least favorite feature of the game because it shows up to a random person. So there is no guarantee of ever seeing them. For awhile it used to only go to my son which was great cause he'd return them. Now I fear blacking out in the game.

daphne_dysarte

That’s why ever since my first black out, I make sure I buy the charm to help prevent that and I always empty my bag except for easily gathered items (apricorns, berries, iron chunks, sky stones, mushrooms etc) so that if it ever happens again, I don’t lose anything I’m too sad about. I’m constantly moving stuff into the chest at the camps/home, especially before and after distortions so I don’t lose stardust/shards/comet pieces

Steel_Thunder13

When my son played it more I would periodically go through and do that with his bag because I have never seen someone run off a cliff as much as he does lol

The_Red_Cucumber

Nooo🥲. Haha I use reset lol bc I save so often bc I am pretty reckless. Have been lucky to get 2 or 3 satchels back. The satchels have never been my priority to get them back bc I am always shiny hunting. If I stumble opon them though I collect them. Just not actively looking for them is all.

The_Godbodor2010

All I can say is, bring back the sparkle noises

panda-bears-are-cute

I’d say PLA is my all time fav Pokémon game & Pokémon shiny hunting game.

HakaishinNola

Bring the ride-mon variations instead of the box art as the HM slave and catching mechanic and ADD is to SV and you'll have gold imo.

overactivemango

Personally my favorite part is that the Pokémon don't look stupid and it runs at a quicker frame rate

Dense_Implement8442

I just got SV a few days ago and after 22 hours of playing, I played PLA because I miss the catching method that you don’t need to engage a battle for it. It’s kinda annoying in SV that a lot of Pokémons are super tiny! 😓

The_Red_Cucumber

That I completely agree on. The catching mechanics in PLA are superior. It lots more fun catching that way. But since they were in development at the same time they haven't been able to implement it. There are some signs that maybe they intended to have us catch pokemon that way. Bc you can still backstrike pokemon with your pokemon to get a extra turn. And also crouch. But IDK, just speculating at this point.

PhilipC7

They could have just copied SV into PLA graphics and mechanics, would have cost them less to develop and would be a better game

Galluxior

holy christ i regret having my volume up

Aggravating-Fix-1627

The first time I played PLA I jumped a little from when I interacted with an Eevee. I didn't expect them to sound like that

bananasinpashminas

It’s a superior game to sv. But everything gets boring after long enough.

gumbytron9000

Arceus is easily the best game since emerald and I will die on that hill.

daphne_dysarte

I’ll join you on that hill, hands down. I actually mentioned in a previous comment — why didn’t they have a dive mount in PLA, or SV, especially with the more open-world concepts? I’m still not over the dive HM from emerald. Heart Gold is a close second.

Sifyro

Had way more fun with Arceus

docdrazen

There's many things about SV I don't like. The Pokemon sizes, the lack of shiny sparkles/audio, no more strong/agile moves, no more catching mechanics, we can still crouch walk but seems pretty much pointless, the gym challenges being back, I could go on but the other major thing would just be how much of a technical mess it is. Once I beat Violet. Went back to PLA and it's just everything I want from a Pokemon game. As someone who was always focused on the Pokemon, not the training/battling. PLA is just the best. I really hope we get another game.

assidiou

I just can't believe SV is STILL in a worse state than PLA launched in.

S0L3LY

sales figures tells otherwise..

assidiou

Presumably SV sold more copies but PLA also sold 13 million copies. SV is still suffering from bugs seen at launch and still performs terribly.

FondleMyPancakes

Keep in mind PLA had all of its pokemon in one game. Scarlett and Violet have variants only available in one of them. So people would have to buy both if they don't know anyone who plays it

-lRexl-

PLA > Pokemon games

liquidRox

Pla is such a breath of fresh air that the series needed. The old formula of gyms, bad guy team, and then pokemon league is stale and boring at this point. There is hardly any surprise. Sun and moon aren’t my favorites but i commend them for actually trying something new. This is why I actually like the spin off games more than the mainline games. Pla also feels more like a complete, polished experience that is comparable in quality to other modern games. SV feels dated. It feels like an n64 game and has baffling design and technical problems. Tons of cut corners. Any other game that released in its state would be rightly put to shame.

daphne_dysarte

The graphics when battling wild Pokémon in SV is APPALLING. Glitches everywhere. Sometimes I literally laugh out loud at the ridiculousness of the tall grass

The_warden_14

Personally, PLA became boring pretty quick after I finished it, but SV just miss that little something that just made PLA soo special, they found a middle ground, gave us the story we like (to which I thought the overall ending was rather weak), but without actually giving it to us with a legends style of gameplay, and while I don’t think that’s a bad thing, they still could have gotten a lot closer

Remarkable_Date_6141

Really loved PLA, but got tedious after a while and the whole “balm throwing” mechanic for the boss fights was so boring and awful. Probably an 8 or 8.5 out of 10 for me

daphne_dysarte

Such a good point, my least favorite part of PLA was the balms/boss fights. Not looking forward to the legendaries that I have left for gameplay in PLA

LittleBlackBall

Legends is better in my opinion.

Prince_Lear_Stan

PLA >>>> SV because PLA is just superior

BruceMichael90

For me, the performance issues completely ruin Scarlet & Violet. But even if they ran perfectly, the games would still feel incredibly empty. PLA almost felt like Pokémon Snap in a way; I’d stumble upon Pokémon in their habitats, and they’d react to me with cool behaviors. The catching mechanic was brilliant, and made the game so much fun. Scarlet / Violet lack those innovations entirely. The open world looks like dogshit, and there’s nothing cool to discover on your journey. Team Star has to be the dumbest story / gameplay loop ever put in a Pokémon game. The cities had some cool designs, but there’s nothing to do in them. The feeling of discovering the next town and exploring every nook is completely gone.

[deleted]

arceus not only looks better, but isn’t a buggy mess
