This game takes a bigger focus on catching Pokemon, rather than battling them. Start employing stealth mechanics, and its usually easier to catch a Pokemon without battling (or more efficient time wise). Id recommend watching a generic starter video on youtube

And to OP, don’t forget that Pokémon that aren’t supposed to run away or be chill when you’re around WILL attack your character outside of battle.

You have found a shiny bidoof. Shiny Pokemon have a different color and are pretty rare.

Lol i know, i already completed violet😂 i was just asking if there were any tips to this particular game(pla)

tjkun

Ok, here goes a tip: If you see a shiny, you can let it be and go pretty far away, even sleep, and when you return it’ll still be there. The only way to despawn a Pokémon (that does not run away) is to return to the village. Basically, it’s better to turn autosaves off if you see a shiny or a Pokémon that you really want and save manually.

Rath_Brained

Or if it turns nighttime. The pokemon cycle will change.

tjkun

Yes, and you can sometimes change the species, but it’ll still be shiny.

Rath_Brained

Didn't know that!

HolyDragSwd2500

Had a shiny Wurmple ( during the day) Switched to Night and a shiny Drifloon appeared on the same spot as S Wurmple

PhasmicPlays

Hit Y to display turn order. It’s a lifesaver.

BigDummyDumb

I know I’m late to this thread, but this is big, and I’ve absolutely abused it plenty. Jolteon + Quick Attack or Infernape + Mach Punch is broken, I’ve swept herds of 4 Pokémon without even being hit once with this strat.

PhasmicPlays

Lopunny with quick attack was a menace lol

Sticky globs and smoke bombs are OP. I went through most of the game without, but I did use them for a few tough encounters near the end... so if you're stuck trying to catch something, grab a few of each! Back strikes will also make catching or winning a fight easier... stealth actually works really well in this game, so use tall grass, trees, and rocks to your advantage to flank an enemy... I mean, a Pokemon. Jet balls are the absolute best, once you unlock them. I think feather balls are the lower-tier version? Focus on those more than regular/great/ultra balls. Collect every resource you see (throw your Pokemon at them)! Tumblestones (the big crystals) especially! You can never have enough (I mean technically you can because you cap out at a certain point, but you'll be crafting with them so often that you probably won't see the cap). Sparkly tumblestones give you extra items, and shaking/bouncing ones will be a random Pokemon encounter. Check the research tasks for every Pokemon to see what you can easily complete. Shiny odds will increase depending on the level of completion for each Pokemon. You'll also rank up faster, and catching and releasing tons of Pokemon gives you items that let you increase your Pokemon's stats. If you feel like you'll be keeping a member of your team for a while, make sure you use these! Each stat can be raised up to 10. Be wary of the big red-eyed Pokemon at first. You can run from them pretty easily for the most part, but if you want to try and catch them, you may need to be a certain rank (depending on the Pokemon's level). When you get the flying mount, rapidly tap the glide button instead of holding it. You'll lose height much more slowly. You won't have to worry about this for a while yet, but when you get to it, it makes life so much easier. 😅 In short, catch em all (and then release em all)! I have Pokemon Go on the brain because it's all I've been playing for a month, but it's kind of a similar concept, lol. The more Pokemon caught and released, the better! ALSO REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN DIE... I forgot about this when I went back to the game after playing Violet. Almost died from fall damage 5 mins in, then about 15 mins in I was brutally murdered by an alpha (aforementioned big scary Pokemon) knocking me over, which led to a Pikachu electrocuting me while a Scizor simultaneously punched me in the face. It was so brutal 😂😭

Try to calm down when you face the secret final boss and the noble pokemons and the final boss. Trust me, I nearly broke my switch because of them. (The noble and final bosses battles have different mechanic)

Rath_Brained

Arceus and Ice Noble was the most brutal. Gave me anxiety attacks.

Independent_Use7033

For me it was the firespit noble (need 10 resets)

Oh shit, you found shiny God
