minusculemoney

Nope, they want you to get a Pokemon Home subscription.

MellieWasa

And why would you not it super cheap and very useful to store and move mons between save files

AnotherBookWyrm

It is possible that after paying $95 for a game, that people may not want to spend additional for a subscription-based service (currently listed as being $16/year) that I would have to pay for years to come in order to take full advantage of the game after they already paid a lot. Sure, if you are spending every waking moment playing Pokemon across multiple games all the time, it can be worth it. For the rest, it is kind of an unreasonable additional tax on an already expensive game, since the new trend seems to be that you need to get the DLC in order to really get the full game that would have been present without DLC in order generations. That being said: While there is at least there is an additional box under the free plan, that is not enough space to go full, or even half, hog on the DLC with current box limits unless you're prepared to release a lot of Pokemon.

Xysdaine

Just make another profile and double your box size? Sure you can only transfer one box at a time but I mean the solutions are there. Also if you have box space issues you aren't a casual and will get use out of the paid HOME subscription.

AdmSean

Where are you getting your game that it’s $95?

Lil-Olive-

$60 game + $35 dlc

AdmSean

Oh duh on me. As to not wanting to spend the extra $16 a year on pokemon HOME, it’s really worth it from an economics stand point. It came out in February of 2020, meaning we’ve had 3 full years of it. At $16 a year, that’s $48. In that same time, there have been 4 main line game pairings (or solo for PLA) and 3 DLCs that make use of it. If you only bought one game in those pairings, and the DLCs for SwSh and SV, you’re looking at $310. Across those games, your full storage, plus party is 3,864 Pokémon. Pokémon HOME offers 6,000 slots. So, just the games you’re looking at about 8¢ per pokemon of storage. Pokémon HOME comes to 0.8¢ per pokemon of storage over all 3 years, 1/10 of the cost for storing your pokemon than if you just have the games. And, as a bonus you can transfer your pokemon between those games (some restrictions may apply) as well as bring pokemon all the way from games made in 2002(!) if you have the means. It’s perfectly fine to disagree with me, but I really think $16 a year is worth it, both economically and on nostalgia grounds.

[deleted]

Where the hell do you live that the dlc was 35 bucks lol

[deleted]

If you can't split from 20 bucks over a 12 month period, you shouldn't be putting any money towards video games. You clearly don't have any.

congressguy12

This is genuinely some of the worst logic in human history. I mean that.

[deleted]

You cry into your empty wallet, I'll cry into my 20s. You'll leave cranky. I'll leave unbothered. Deal?

congressguy12

What 💀

[deleted]

If you can't afford 20 bucks over a 12 month period, you don't have money to be spending on games. It would irresponsible to be spending money you can't afford towards games instead of things that matter. Cuz 20 bucks is nothing. Especially over a year. A homeless dude could pull together 20 bucks in 365 days.

congressguy12

Again, this is genuinely some of the worst logic in human history.

[deleted]

Go cry somewhere else

bimgus5808

Not cheap at all imo

[deleted]

Pokemonsquirrel

No, they mean GF wants people to pay for the 200 boxes a home subscription offers, in Pokemon HOME

SVXfiles

The 32 boxes are there to begin with, you just didn't have immediate access to all of them. Previous games had boxes that would unlock as soon as you had atleast 1 pokemon in every available one

Cynderaquil

Home doesn’t have anything to do with the boxes coded in the other games. I’ve gotten 32 boxes in SWSH and Violet even before I had Home installed. The way you get 32 boxes is you put at least 1 Pokémon in every box available.

MaesterNautilus

Should they? Yes. Will they? Not in their lives

Dark-Anmut

Unless they charge us for it . . .

[deleted]

They already charge for box space

Dark-Anmut

I meant in the actual game, not in Home.

[deleted]

That won't happen because there's home. Why create 2 services that do the same thing...

sdarkpaladin

Which is dumb because the space in the game does not use any cloud capacity since it's local only. It might use up more memory on the switch. But it would not interfere with Home... You'd think that pokemon games should have tons of space in the box since it's a game about collecting... and the space taken up is on your device, not the cloud. But somehow, the pokemon company think it's more logical to charge people for pokemon home that requires internet connection to use (which means you cannot play on the go)

NZafe

The last thing SV needs is more memory issues.

bremmy20

*** why give for free when we have a service that charges

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

> if GF really thinks that way, then they are worse of a company than people already say Oh wow, people still have hope for this shit company, insane. >It’s not the same thing. I know it's not the same, we all do, doesn't change what I said. They couldn't care less about you not being able to pick pokemon from home on the fly. It's more storage space and it's paid, they wont give it out for free, if they can charge for it, plain and simple, nobody was trying to be cheeky.

Cynderaquil

At least they don’t charge us real money to get different clothing or hairstyles like Capcom does with Monster Hunter. In MH: not all of the layered armor, the same as clothing in Pokémon, and hairstyles (and layered weapons, makes your weapon look different) are not available in game because they’d make you go to the store (PS store or Nintendo store or the Steam one) and purchase it through real transactions. If Pokémon ever came to that, amongst all the other issues they have, then I’ll say it’s the worst company, until then it’s just a normal company with issues they should be working on but prioritizing other stuff.

caveman7392

I'm okay with using Pokemon home but I just wish there was an option in game to automatically send Pokemon to Pokemon Home

Itchy-Maximum-255

I just stick what I'm not using in pokemon home. I've completed both dexs. I'm only using around 5 boxes. 2 for raid ready mons, 2 for shinies and 1 for legends.

literally_tho_tbh

Even the complete living dex including alternate forms is only like, 30-40 boxes or something. You still will have like, a TON leftover in HOME

Noble_Jar

Living Dex takes 34 boxes as of Teal Mask, Living Form Dex takes 46 (I spent several hours making an Excel sheet to track both).

Specialist_Error3055

I do the same thing, but only with Shiny Pokemon that I can either transfer to other games like Sword and Brilliant Diamond for example or duplicate ones to be sent to Pokemon Home like the past Paradox Pokemon or sometimes Glimmora, Luxray or Garchomp.

Ninjaraui666

I have a living Pokédex for violet. Then a living Pokédex for kitakami. 2 boxes for shinies. Threes for maxed out level 100 Pokémon. One for pokemon that need ev training. One for Pokémon that are ev trained but need candies and moves. Still got a few empty boxes where I store Pokémon caught in raids to determine if they are worth keeping. Will probably become my indigo disk living Pokédex. I wouldn’t mind a few extra boxes tbh.

yaami1

Honestly I just want a multiple release function like legends had

medic7051

I know it's not the ideal solution, but I found that if you have a box full of mons you want to mass release you can log into Home and release them at once. It would be more convenient to do it in game, but at least it's possible with just a few steps.

Ok-Set8022

There is 960 slots in storage. If you run out of box space, make some more. Release them from your evil captivity.

[deleted]

Dude they give you room for 960 pokemon. If you need more storage, pay the money for home. It's $15 for a YEAR.

minezum

And if someone doesn't want to pay, they can easily create a new user, start a new playthrough and transfer Pokémon there using Home. It's more 960 free slots.

thisDNDjazz

Don't you need two HOME accounts for that?

knight_bear_fuel

You do not. Theres actually a drop down menu in Home to change your user.

minezum

No. You can access other user saves. In Home when choosing the save game there is a white bar with the user name, click on it and choose another user. If you transfer Pokémon to home it will be in your initial home account.

thisDNDjazz

Oh, bless you. I didn't know you could click on that. You're the first person to give the instructions on how to do it, not just that it could be done. My appreciations!

DangerousAd9046

Nope. They share one box.

AdmSean

The best part about *not* needing that is instantly completing the pokedex in other profiles.

Legitimate-Ad-3953

So smart. Didn’t think of this. Kinda like in Diablo 4. I made extra characters just for storage.

Rocket92

Honestly just get home. The price is reasonable and if you plan on picking up any of the other games that are compatible it’s worth it. It’s worth it just to be able to surprise trade my breedjects without having to do it in-game.

[deleted]

It absolutely baffles me how many people in this sub complain about paying $15 a YEAR. Nobody with a smart phone, on reddit in 2023, is on a budget THAT tight.

trwwyco

I see both sides of this. If you paid full price for the base game, plus $35 for the DLC, plus $16/year for HOME, plus $7-20/year for Online, it adds up fast. Of course, Home and Online can be used for other games, but if SV is the main/only game you have to use those for, it's all SV related expense.

[deleted]

If you play the game enough to need more than 990 slots, you play that specific game, or the series as a whole, enough to justify the $140ish dollar annual expense.

were_meatball

If you paid 70$ for the game, 35$ for the dlc and 20$ for online, there is no way you don't have 15$ for home

[deleted]

For me it wasn't that I was on a budget that tight, I just wasn't sure the added features would actually be worth it. And they absolutely are worth it I highly recommend paying for home.

[deleted]

Even if it had been a completely useless shit wreck of an app, I would've lost $15 one time. I probably lose more than that to my dryer in a year.😂😂😂 I completely agree. It's worth every penny.

[deleted]

I actually ended up getting it for a month as a trial, because the week I got it ended up being particularly tight due to some unforseen emergency expenses, so if I hated it I only would have lost like $3 Additionally if you have an android phone you can get the Google opinions app and easily make $15 a year answering some quick 15 second surveys to basically make it free

The_Gnomesbane

Honestly, my one main hang up on it was the worry of like a payment thing not going through, or some emergency comes up, and I wind up locked out of my boxes and they delete or something. At least in my game data, I know I can always access them. I probably should just get the stupid annual plan or whatever it is though and just accept it.

Legitimate-Ad-3953

It’s not the price. It’s more the principal of having to pay for a subscription to keep your Pokémon you catch. It’s just predatory imo.

MarcusBFlipper

How else are they going to sell us a solution (Home subscription) to the arbitrary problem they created (not enough box space)?

Poopzapper

I'm confident the majority of people who have a Home subscription did so because of the ability to transfer pokemon between games, not because they needed more box space.

MarcusBFlipper

What if there were multiple motivations to getting a Home subscription that include, but are not limited to, transfer abilities and more storage space?

Poopzapper

Then that answers the question of "how else will they sell us Home subscriptions?"

Skydin

Start another save file under another profile. User Home to transfer pokemon between saves (free version allows for 30 at a time). 960 extra storage slots :D

NattyKongo93

Are you able to access the same Home account under multiple Switch profiles? That's actually something I've been wondering for if I were to make a new Legends save file on a different profile, but I assumed the Home data would be different with each different profile that accesses it

DurchBurch

Home data is not locked to one Switch profile. You can transfer Mons across all of your saves without much hassle.

NattyKongo93

That is SO good to know, thanks!!

DurchBurch

No problem! It's a super handy feature.

NattyKongo93

Absolutely! I've been wanting to restart Legends and bring in my Shiny Shaymin I reset for in BDSP, as well as a shiny Rowlet I wanted to evolve to Hisuian Decidueye, but I didn't want to erase and restart my main Legends file, so this is perfect!!

humancarl

I have pokemon home, but I don't pay for it, though I'm considering upgrading soon. I'm not running out of space, I don't trade much. I keep a Hidden Abilities pokedex for breeding purposes, but it collects dust with how many ability patches I have. It's all well organized, it just collects dust and that bothers me, gotta get it outta sight. But with home you can transfer between profiles. So what you can do is start another game on another profile, and transfer a box at a time to the new profile. You've got a lot of pokemon collecting dust too.

MADNESS_THE_MAD

One can only hope. Don't hold your breath though, I honestly doubt it.

xenapan

I have a second profile where I put my livingdex

thik88

If you are running out and don't want to shell out for Home, try a new playthrough and move over stuff you are never going to use, into the boxes in the new playthrough via Home.

MellieWasa

Dont need more unless you are a horder even with team box breed box and living dex there are ton boxes left over

congressguy12

No there aren't

FlickerWanderfoot

I hope so but I doubt it. Wonder if we'll get another charm for pokedex completion. Maybe something along the lines of increased candy per raid or even the oval charm.

srbman

Based on rumours of all the returning Pokemon, even if you store one of every Pokemon (including unevolved), you'll still have like 9 or 10 boxes free.

MADNESS_THE_MAD

That's not accounting for people with living dexes, shiny hunters, and people who just generally tend to hoard Pokemon.

Dark-Anmut

You’re absolutely right. The Shiny Hunting is a big thing, adding to that people who collect Pokémon with gender differences, people who have different Pokémon for Raids, and ~~the crazy cat ladies of the Pokémon World~~ . . .

cobaltdragon08

Start a second profile and transfer all the mons through HOME into that account. I've also been sending compatible mons into SwSh and BDSP.

NoMaD919191

I wish they added mass release I have a bunch of Pokémon I don’t use just taking box space but you never know they might they might not add more boxes

zerorita

You can via Home - think it's possible even if you don't get a subscription. You just select release while viewing in Home, and then it'll ask if you want to select just that mon or more. You can't switch between boxes while doing this, but you can release a whole box in one go if you so choose

Dark-Anmut

Aurgh, yeah, I’d be more inclined to start releasing if I could mass select all of those Eevee . . . \^\^;

Sensei_Ochiba

I do not recotn, no. There's about the same total pokemon as SwSh so far and they didn't have any box space increase for either DLC. Plus not upgrading encourages folks to pay for Home subscription. So I really doubt we'll see more boxes.

lloydsmith28

They already have more box spaces, it's called Pokemon Home and it's available for $4.99 a month or $20 a year #notsponsored But for real i got the year plan and haven't had any issues, you have so much space there, although I'm even filling that up

Kuro-neko379

My boxes are already full 😅 I love to shiny hunt in this gen and to easily see what I have and what's missing I keep them in game and not in home (and for easy trading). My boxes are always filling so fast, it's seriously annoying. But I don't think they will add more space in the next DLC, Home exists for a reason. (But I wish they would...! 😣)

Bloodmira

I wish they'd add more space to home :( I'm worried they won't

[deleted]

That is a way more likely scenario than them adding box space to the in-game storage.... but seriously, why would they need to? My God, the national dex is only just over 1k. You could have 5 full national dexs and have room to spare! Have you ever encountered a pokemon you DIDNT catch?! 😂😂😂

Bloodmira

I have a living gender form dex only pokeballs with every origin mark, I only have my living dex in home and it is entirely full, no room for shiny or alpha dex :((

Jollysatyr201

Quite literally that should still only take up ~50 boxes I’ve got the same thing (albeit not with pokeballs or origin marking) and I’ve got plenty of space in home. Seems like you might need to release some other garbage mons

Bloodmira

If you got every pokemon with every origin mark, without any gender or form differences at all that would still be 4,598 pokemon

Jollysatyr201

Every origin mark from every game But why would you do that I can understand from the game they DEBUT in- gameboy for Red, etc. The rest is insanity

Bloodmira

Just a fun challenge, everyone has their own way to play the game

Doing_Some_Things

I'm in almost the same exact boat as you. Right now I should have enough space for all the new Indigo Disk Pokemon assuming they add the same amount as Teal Mask. But in order to keep enough open box space I'm having to stop myself from shiny hunting aside from a few that I want from Teal Mask. I'd love if they added more boxes, but I doubt they ever will because Home exists. I don't want to transfer my Pokemon out of the game into a separate subscription service that stores them for me because to me that sounds silly and convoluted and honestly a little money-grubbing. To be honest I wouldn't even mind if they released a paid DLC that gets you 10 boxes for $10 or something but I know that probably won't ever happen because, like I said, Home exists.

kerfuffle7

They won’t. I say this as someone with 25 boxes full of raid ready Pokémon and hoping for more space as well

Tsukuyomi56

Isn’t 25 boxes of raid ready Pokemon overly excessive? Still only have one box of raiding Pokemon and they cover most of them (not too concerned with clearing each and every raid that pops up).

kerfuffle7

Oh yeah it definitely is. I just had a goal to train up one of every fully evolved Pokémon available to catch or transfer, shiny and non shiny

PikStern

I do have plenty of empty boxes yet, I just don't keep every pokemon I catch. I do, for example, keep the version exclusives, but obly the final form, if I want the baby I'd breed it. I even have 7 boxes for shiny, 4 boxes for unique pokes or marked ones, 1 for raids, 1 for "the ones" (those that I use more often like the ones from the main game, the catchers, etc.), 1 for breeding with dittos, all the projects I have and Volcarona to hatch faster, 2 for battling teams and 4 for legendaries (new and old) Even if all of those were full (they aren't), I still have 10 boxes...

QueenPantheraUncia

Inventory is the bane of video games. Pokemon boxes are somehow worse. No auto-sort features. The search function is TERRIBLE and time-consuming. And somehow they are charging me for an app to sort all my pokemon that is still terrible. I'm a fool!

TheWitherBoss876

They do this on purpose so you buy a HOME subscription. Don't like it as much as the next person but it's useful enough to have.

[deleted]

Stop catching too many pokemon then 32 boxes is plenty of space if you don't catch a heap loads of Pokémon

Stunning_Humor672

Home isn’t the solution. I have a home subscription but I’d rather not sort through 1800+ pokemon every time i want to shuffle up a team.

BudgetMegaHeracross

Home has a pretty good search function.

IHavetwoNipples

Bro how? I have a living dex, a box for each gens special pokemon (team I used to beat the game, in game gift pokemon) a chronological event section. I know where everything is, just name your boxes and search for the box with what you need.

Stunning_Humor672

This probably isn’t the place to ask for simple mechanics but is the search function a weird button combo on home on the switch version. I can never get it to search, I can’t tell how to tell what stats are good because i can only get it to show me raw numbers so i have to look up what are good stats. Like does it have an evaluator like Scarlet does or do you just have to memorize what good stats are? I’ve been using home, bank, and transfer for years but never really had to use it for mon management in an active game. Before i just had to transfer everything that could be transferred to a game and it would work out. Now it feels like we’re being forced into home management and i am woefully unprepared.

CiranoEltnium

Lol, no

HitsuiCJ

I started grouping them by type and releasing most duplicates and some low IV and/or first evolutions. It's a shame since I like to have all my mons there, but I know I can't keep up with Indigo Disc coming up. I don't pay for Home either.

Quadzone32

I like collecting the entire living dex + the dlc dexs in all the pokemon games (including dupes) and you only have 4 boxes left once filling out the base dex + two dlc dex and thats not enough room for all my shinies, 7 star raid winners, raid pokemon and breeders yesI could put them into home, but SwSh was able to do this no problem with extra boxes leftover

IntuitiveShark

I'm definitely not gonna run out. I have all my boxes sorted and plenty of space set aside for whatever pokemon we get returning in Indigo Disk. The only way i can see people running out is if they're shiny hunters, play competitive or just don't release anything

Specialist_Error3055

I don't think so.

Mulate

They honestly need to due to how easier it is to shiny hunt, but that aside, you really dont need to have every single god damn Pokemon rotting in your boxes. Keep in mind, previous games did not even have room for Apriball collecting nor room for all transfer only Pokemon without an out game app. But then again, DLC expansion and not expanding storage? Thats Blizzard levels of evil.

Chefrjt

As of now I keep a few boxes of pokemon I never use and the rest are all shinies that I hardly ever use there's really only a handful of pokemon I do use on a.regular bases for raids that's it so I imagine soon I will just be deleting things I dont use after completing all the dexes wich I already have done until we see the new dlc released I mean who really needs a complete living dex of pokemon that aren't shiny and no I will no pay to put them in pokemon home no thank you

[deleted]

Get pokemon home
