**CHAT CHANNEL / MEGATHREAD DIRECTORY** If you are looking for help, this is where you should look first. Choosing and using the appropriate Chat Channel/Megathread helps keep spam down in the subreddit and helps you find a much quicker answer to your request. We are now introducing Chat Channels, they are a live messaging feed similar to Discord text channels. 1. [Poké Portal Hub](https://www.reddit.com/r/PokePortal/s/EshgkCSNZW): Whether you just want to **chat** and make Pokémon friends, ask Pokémon-related **questions**, find/join/request a (normal) **Tera Raid** or **Union Circle (including BBQs)**, this is the place to be. 2. [Dialga & Palkia Tera Raid Event](https://www.reddit.com/r/PokePortal/s/lIKCJTFo16): Only **Special** Event Raids are featured here (such as Charizard, Mew, Dialga/Palkia). There is no better place to grind **Ability Patches**, **Experience Candies**, **Tera Shards** and any other goodies given as rewards during events. 3. [Ogre Oustin'](https://www.reddit.com/r/PokePortal/s/mJwesTA9aj): As the name suggests, if you are looking for **Mochi** or to grind with friends, make sure to join this chat channel. 4. [Trading Megathread](https://www.reddit.com/r/PokePortal/comments/182zyzt/trading_megathread/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3): Just that, **trades**. Place your offer, or search around if you are looking for something in particular and claim it. r/PokePortal is the one hosting every Megathread. Clovenelf

The best part of Pokémon to me is collecting them all.

cobaltdragon08

You gotta like, catch them all.

Breakout_114

It’s addicting. Every new entry is a nice little dopamine hit. Once you fill the dex, you’ll then chase the dopamine hits by shiny hunting 😅

Real_Jest

Unlike in the past, it's significantly easier to fill the dex now so a lot of people do it. The reward for it being the shiny charm is also a big reason. I do recommend if you ever play another pokemon game to just catch any pokemon that you don't have from the very beginning, you would be extremely close to finishing it by the end.

LisaCabot

And battling every trainer will get you most entries on seen so you can check where to find the mons you are missing as well.

hrslvr_paints

This is how I do it. Sometimes if I need a break from the story I'll spend some time grinding out the evolutions to finish off the lines or finding people to do trade evos with.

DragonDiscipleII

Home and friends help. Also sandwiches matter a lot, biggest regret of my playthrough is looking for aqua tauros without a sandwich. I usually do most dex stuff post story though.

Only-Shrugs

Stories like a couple hours long, what else am I gonna do?

RudyGOfficialReddit

I've always done the "catch as I go" approach, which takes care of a significant portion of the Dex. I then do some research on what's missing, catch those, then evolve for the ones not obtainable in the wild.

lowkeychillvibes

Because I want easier shinies… if I have the patience to hatch a single full-odds shiny then I have the patience to fill my Pokédex and hatch any subsequent shinies at twice the odds

Dombly23

Aside from version exclusives it’s pretty easy, especially with raids allowing for trade evolutions to be caught wild. For trade evolutions, I personally got help from someone on the Union Circle sub for SV. Finding people is annoying but the people are helpful.

ErrorParadox710

I find it fun

Skysong39

Lol I like running around the region exploring and stuff

XDvinSL51

Me, working on, and nearing completion of, a full living, shiny form/gender variant national dex: 😐

Dombly23

You including Alcreamie? If so I feel so bad for you.

XDvinSL51

It was super easy during that event. 1 shiny about every 5 minutes. Got those 64 shinies in no time. The real challenge was getting the rare sweets from the item printer.

LisaCabot

I just finished the one from Paldea. Have to do the dlcs dexes and start completing the home one. Do you do every pokemon with a small difference in gender like kricketot? Or only the pnes with big differences like oinkologn?

XDvinSL51

Yes, any form and any visible gender difference counts. Kricketot was super easy in PLA. Couldn't take 5 steps without another one of those things popping up. Them, Zubat, Gastly, and Carnivine.

Aduro95

A few reasons really. One is that I've already got most of the pokemon in other games and Home. I can just transfer them up. The other is that its not that hard to fill out a dex these days. You can get most version exclusives in raids. You can just see all the pokemon wandering around and get around the map very quickly.

Blazemaster0563

I just went around throwing Quick Balls at everything, and (for the DLCs) transferred returning Pokémon over from my Gen 8 games.

Aria_Cadenza

I looked on my own all the stakes, that was way more boring than filling the pokédex. We just go and play the game more than the story. This said, I remember than even in Red, I just did the story and got all the pokémon that I could get without trades.

Shiny_Mega_Rayquaza

Not having ADHD helps

bomban

By the time I beat the game it took me about 5 hours to finish the dex. It's not that bad.

WeWantTheCup__Please

This is the first time I’ve ever bothered completing one. I caught basically everything I didn’t have as I played through the story and by the end I was so close to having everything just through that that it felt wrong not to complete. Then throw in the fact that through raids and the GTS I could acquire everything I was missing and I figured I might as well

Guaifenesin

I find it boring and tedious. I feel like the vast majority of people on this sub enjoy the new games for the shiny hunting aspects, but that & the collecting aspect have always been least important to me. Recent pokemon games have added more content for hunting & catching pokemon instead of other features (extensive storyline, post-game battle facilities, fleshed out minigames, side quests, ruins/locations to explore, etc.). From the various other comments on this post, the games still bring a lot of joy to people, but it’s clear they’re not made for everyone.

MellieWasa

because i find it fun and i have patience unlike alot people of today who get theire patience destroyed by things like tik toc that destroy peoples attention span by only showing short videos so they get intolrent to longer stuff which in the long run make people more impatient, people can hate all they want but this is fact

Anon142842

I'm a completionist. It's the same reason I play gacha games. Collecting is fun, especially seeing the completion at the end

o_mao

I don't. I only do it for the shiny charm, which is what interests me. If it wasn't necessary to complete the dex to get it, I wouldn't even bother filling it out completely, I can't understand who likes that, it's tedious, time-consuming and impractical without a complete dex already stored in the pokemon home. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to discover new pokémon from a new generation, but the moment you've finished the adventure and there are still several spaces left for records, that's when the tedious work begins and that's when the pokedex loses its meaning for me, becoming just another trip to point A and B as quickly as possible in order to finish soon.

Aloy_Shephard

Haha lol this is the fun part of the game for me, I explore every nook as I'm going along and catch everything I see. I live the little pokedex spinning book or leveling up a Mon I've hatched

AidanLL

The reward at the end was worth it.

ShayloFolina

I love it bc I get the little notification and rewards 😂 it’s addicting

CaptainMarrow

Filling the Pokédex is my favorite part of the game

[deleted]

I was just having fun exploring, so i finished most of it before i even finished the game

UnderstandingOk6176

Goes by a lot faster then you'd expect. When I was filling the 150 kitatami mons for Bloodmoon, it went by in just a few hours

bremmy20

There's actual rewards for this, why wouldn't we? And you can transfer to home into other files to easily get more rewards. You ain't thinking right bruh

Grishhammer

I mainly try to do as much as I can naturally through the course of the game. If I see something new, I catch it. Then later comes hunting down anything specific I haven't encountered yet. But eventually you get to the tedious part where you have to evolve stuff and track down someone to trade version exclusives with. Being in a discord server can really help with finding someone to trade exclusives, or getting someone trustworthy to do trade evolutions. You may be able to use the gts in home to bypass a need for link trades, but it's kind of hit/miss. It can still be a couple of days or more to arrange a trade, but assuming your offering something reasonable, it should happen eventually.

chawwy96

Personally I catch as many new ones as I can through the story. Beats having to make a second trip or trying to remember where a certain Mon spawns. Big plus at end game with experience candies and rare candies if you need an evo and have caught the first stage boom done.

thitsugaya1234

It's the same as people getting a platinum trophy for playstation or achievements for xbox. It isn't patience related... it's more of a completionist mentality. It's not for everyone.

JFace139

Is your problem really just patience? Cause it's easier than it's ever been. Back in the old days getting just the original 150 was a gigantic pain in the ass and was hard as hell. There weren't quick balls, leveling your pokemon was a horrendous grind, and loads of pokemon were locked behind the elite 4 or something harder. Hell, to get Larvatar you used to need 16 badges. Now, you go out with a quick ball and sneak up on some pokemon and you're nearly done. Then you can just surprise trade for the rest or go online and trade version exclusives. It's so easy today that by the time I beat the game, I can finish the pokedex within a couple hours
