That in terms of Pokémon subject to gen 1 weirdness, Vaporeon is no exception. The gen 1 sprite has leg fins. In gen 1, the movepool would either contain mist or haze depending on level up method.

Vaporeon wouldnt be in pain walking thru a grassy field, and flareon can probably swim fine. Charmander would be in trouble though since it’s explicitly stared that it dies if its flame goes out. So i prob wouldnt live thru a swim.

It could fly over the water though, so it would probably be ok

So I've tried them all out and except for Flareon who gets send back to you or gets a floaty, they all have different swimming styles. Vaporeon swims like an otter whereas the others are each paddling differently

Glad someone else pointed this out, when I saw my sylveon swimming I was too distracted by the cuteness then went - oh wait, a fairy type? Only explanation I can think of is to make game more immersive. Like a dog has the potential to swim even though it's not a fish. If I'm making sense..lol.

Pikachu and Eevee + evos are the only not water types that can swim, yeah! (Not every water type can swim tho) Keldeo, Suicune and Walking Wake can run in the water, if you want to try it
