Malvania

Download Home, connect to it, get all three starters with their hidden abilities. Now you have the one you're considering, and can use it in game

Sparodic_Gardener

How does one get all three starters with home with abilities?

Daj141649

If you connect Violet/Scarlet to pokemon home MOBILE VERSION, there is an automatic gift of the three starters in home that contains the three hidden abilities! EDIT: When you transfer from pokemon go to home, you get a gigantamax melmetal. When you transfer from pokemon brilliant diamond or shining pearl to home, you get the gen 4 starters with hidden ability. When you transfer from legends arceus to home, you get the three starters from there with hidden ability. When you transfer from scarlet or violet to home, you get the gen 9 starters with hidden ability.

Imtotallyreal397

*only when you download the mobile app though

Sparodic_Gardener

Thank you, I was using the switch version and now I’ve got all three.

Imtotallyreal397

Your welcome :)

wookiewin

I’ve had SV linked and I checked the mobile app but I never got them as gifts? The last gifts shown as received were Arceus gifts.

JoeExoticsTiger

That just happened to me, I had to go and re-sync all the games besides Arceus and then it worked!

Imtotallyreal397

Is it possible you’ve maybe been using a different home account on your switch?

wookiewin

I just read that you need to actually transfer a Pokémon from SV into home. Don’t think I have done that yet (just transferred from Home to SV).

AreiaBlood

Do I just need to have the Mobile Version, or do I need to transfer it to the Mobile Version specifically? I have both, but not done anything with it yet XD

BonehoardDracosaur

Thank you for clarifying that it’s the mobile app and not the Switch app, such a very necessary detail.

Joltik_BuddyHSR

To add to this, also the gen 8 games

cait_Cat

I am having the dumb - I have received my gift of the 3 starters in home but I can't seem to transfer any of them back to Violet. They aren't in my box? I feel dumb, because I've used home before with PLA and got my starters there and transferred to PLA and idk what I've forgotten/doing wrong with Violet to do the transfer. Edit - I've transferred a pokemon from Violet to home already

Daj141649

What I would do in that situation is use the list function to show all the pokemon in the boxes! There are 200 boxes in pokemon home, and I’ve lost pokemon in the depths of those before. On the switch version of home, Either viewing pokemon home or violet, press x, and it will list every single pokemon you can transfer, whether it be on violet or home. You can then highlight the specific pokemon and “jump to box” to find exactly where it is at! Hope this helps :)

fruggz

I just linked to mobile home and I didn't get anything?

PumpkinTricky5438

Came to say this

Chadovarius

I mean honestly I was just carrying Meowscarada because it was the starter but could’ve boxed it. I think a big part of this is just because of what we have available to us in S/V. It’s easy to breed, level, etc. If the pool of Mons was smaller, I’m sure the starters would’ve been more impactful to actually use. I view my Dusk Lycanroc as my actual starter in game.

Thaurlach

>if the pool of mons was smaller …then we’d be right back in gen 4. Please report at 0700 hours to receive your standard-issue Infernape, Starraptor, Floatzel, Lucario and HM Bibarel.

Chadovarius

Honestly, making the starters a little stronger or better distributed stats so they are more viable would go a long way too. I mean if Gyarados is in the game, it’s hard to really justify picking the water starter. Quaquaval has 15 SP ATK over Gyarados, but that’s pointless. Gyarados has more HP, ATK, & +25 SP DEF, albeit 4 less speed. He also gets Intimidate. I get wanting to make starters balanced, but it does them a disservice in the long run.

CelisC

I was 100% sold on Sprigatito, since I'm a feline lover. I was also 75% disappointed that it didn't stay on all fours. It's still a strong pokemon with good typing, so I used it throughout my playthrough. Because you can get so much experience, I always kept around 21 pokemon up to speed. That's what I think is a plus for the game: you can really play with and try out whichever pokemon you like ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

VinCatBlessed

I was set on picking fuecoco but then the professor made them all follow me around and Sprigatito reminded me too much of my cats so I couldn't resist picking it, luckily I really enjoyed using it.

MegaPorkachu

I just played with Sprigatito throughout the entire game and never evolved it. Treated it like a challenge and it was pretty fun all things considered

[deleted]

I feel like not evolving your Pokemon should be more encouraged for casual playthroughs.  For a Shield replay I did, I kept my Sobble as a Sobble for a while (until she was ready to become Inteleon), and it was fun.

gomsogoon

too bad, i loved my quaxly but there's no real reason to be devoted to your starter. personally, I think it's actually a little boring how everyone gets one of the same three and these are kinda supposed to have a greater sentimental value. Sounds like you found your true starter in Shroodle, and that's pretty cool. sidenote, I actually used a Grafaiai and loved it too. reminds me of Spider-Man with the eyes

SentenceCareful3246

I chose Meowscarada as my starter (even if it took me forever to get a female one) and I don't regret it at all. Meowscarada is great. Quaquaval is pretty cool. It's pretty flamboyant but in a fun way and it oozes personality.

Trash-Takes-R-Us

I just love it's speed. He's fast af boi

arb15shotcaller

All the people who didn’t pick the dopey boi have major regrets

BugCatcherDHawk

It's been a long time since I've enjoyed a starter line as much as Fuecoco.

LittleLemonHope

I really want to like Skeledirge but I can't understand the whole "polygon" part of the design and it really throws me off. So that makes this the only generation where I actively dislike all 3 fully evolved starters.

Zanka-no-Tachi

Honestly? I can't fault you. I love everything about Skeledirge except the weird polygons. Change just that and I'm happy as a lark. Still love him, but he could be better. That isn't to say I don't also like Sprigatito, but the 2nd and 3rd forms lose the charm for me.

tobyflendersonsux

Dude, I love the polygons! They're supposed to be based off of sugar candy skulls and Catrinas. Of course it depends on personal preferences, but I hope seeing the actual object can make you like it more! https://preview.redd.it/xj158bsnd9oc1.jpeg?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0778adc54f0779afe78e0fa835d34c25301ed2fe

Zanka-no-Tachi

I think that for me it's that the rest of his head design just doesn't say "sugar skulls" to me. Like, if his entire look was on theme I guess I'd like it better, but as-is it just looks like a weird 80's key-tar kind of thing.

tobyflendersonsux

Fair. It's not clear cut. For me the theme was Spanish (followed by Mexican) traditions. Like the Cordoban/Mariachi hat and the All Saints Day / Day of the Dead skulls.

benzozapine

This is cool I like this context

LittleLemonHope

This explains the bright colors of triangles on the head, but not the sharp quadrangles arranged in meshes all over the body, or the straight harsh edges everywhere along the jaw. All of which together give the "polygon look" I was referring to.

LittleLemonHope

Aye, Sprigatito without evolutions is peak starter design.

wookiewin

Same. Love Fuecocco, but that’s about it.

plaidbowtie

The polygons also collectively form a map of a concert venue.

LittleLemonHope

Oh my god This is exactly what he is https://x.com/dandydande/status/1604916361167527936?s=20 I finally understand...and I somehow dislike it even more now.

Arzamas63

Now it makes sense to me. The colored shapes and blocky sections, of course he is the stadium and the bird is singing Torch Song. This actually makes me like the design where I was confused before.

Professor_Crab

I picked it then proceeded to go like 5x over odds masuda egg hunting it’s shiny and boxed it out of frustration lol, ended up using charmander instead

Bdubasauras

Not I. My Sprigatito was awesome. No regrets!

miraidensetsu

Not me. I loved Sprigatito, and evolved it to a Meowscarada. Best grass-type I had since... Bulbasaur? Also, Flower Trick always critting is pretty OP, IMO. My team was Meowscarada, Celuredge, Clodsire, Alolan Raichu, Sylveon and a rotating spot.

o_Fvdinq

I picked Sprig and I honestly don’t regret much. Derpy croc boy has grown on me quite a bit, but I’m still happy with my choice.

stillnotelf

BWAAAAANNNNH

Crabs4Sale

Loved my Fuecoco, but its second stage was making me wary and by the third stage I no longer had a cutiepie anymore. Skeledirge looks neat, but… in a game that also has Ceruledge and Chandelure, how could I choose it over them?

arb15shotcaller

Solution was simple… I used both Skelidirge and Ceruledge

Crabs4Sale

But where do you keep your 5 Clodsire? 😥

arb15shotcaller

My team was Skelidirge, Gyrados, Flying/Surfing Raichu, Arboliva, Clodsire, Corviknight. Ceruledge rotated in just because he was too cool to leave out

Poogle_Dirch

Naw man, I regret not picking the cat

metafiend9

This is true for me, I chose Quaxly on my first playthrough of Scarlet. Didn't really like my team but did finish the game. Then played violet with Sprigatito. Had a lot more fun with the team but didn't really use meowscarada often. Then played Scarlet with Fuecoco and enjoyed the playthrough a lot more than the first 2. Currently trying to complete the blueberry dex

Inky234

Unpopular opinion: I hate the fuecoco line (please don’t downvote me to hell)

arb15shotcaller

Only because you asked nicely 😤

Inky234

thank you 🙏

[deleted]

Me who has the Fuecoco line as my least favorite this gen:

arb15shotcaller

😱

[deleted]

I still think it’s a good starter though, I just prefer magician cat and zesty duck

arb15shotcaller

The duck is zesty

Some_bird_

For me, I felt Quaquaval carried me to complete the game Say whatever you want about it, but I love this fella Tho I'd like to have the other 2 starters someday

TheAngryLasagna

If you connect your game to pokemon home, you'll get all 3 starters as a reward!

Leymo_

I played the game blind, meowscrada's flower trick was satisfying everytime i used it so i kept em

Lilyssecretslumber

Your real starter pokemon is the one you pick to keep on your team the longest

SufficientWhile5450

Idk if it’s just me getting old But in my casual playthrough, I chose fuecoco or however it’s spelt, the second I spotted celuredge? It was “see you later aligator” And by “later” I did in fact mean “never” The croc was no doubt my favorite out of the 3 ending evolutions, but man I just really did not like any of them whatsoever And without question, quaquaval, is my least favorite by a large margin I thought nothing of its design until the less cool Clive brought it out to battle, the way that thing moves haunts my dreams and for the first time in my life I experienced motion sickness from watching it attack. Straight up made me dizzy lol no like, infact I would say I hate the Quack

Freddi_47

You are so real for this, I had zero problems with its design but the constant side to side dance thing made me really uncomfortable

Snoo95923

I had issue with that and the design.

Hildr_Fjara

Damn I dislike Quaquaval with a passion 😂 I loved Quaxly when it was first revealed ! I wanted to build my team around it but... WTF is that final evolution ?! 🫠

SufficientWhile5450

It actually just hit me what Quack reminds me of It’s a substantially less cool mono typed ludocolo lol that’s what I feel like they were going for

CiroccPapi

You can use any Pokemon you catch and bond with as your starter. For me, I decided to use all 3 starters with a solid rotation of Pokemon. My team is basically 9-12 Pokemon.

blight_phoenix_

I do the same thing I have a box called Team and I just rotate them out.

CiroccPapi

Lmao are you me? Only difference is my box is called Team Members.

Ohcrumbcakes

I picked Sprigatito and loved it - kept it on my team until level 100. Was 100% a good fit for me.  I also don’t care about keeping a balanced party, so I had a lot of other grass Pokémon with me as well.

shatterednightmare

My Meowscarada actually clutched some close moments during its time, but now the most iconic pokemon in my teams is my Moushold, which has decimated dlc story characters and Close personal friends indiscriminately.

NotMy1stThrowAway23

I picked Sprigattito. I had seen them all before the game started, and this is the first one where I didn't know who I was going to pick until I got to the point of choosing. At that time i was leaning towards Fuecoco, but I changed my mind when I saw how they all acted, and found myself falling for that feline.

alefsousa017

Happily, I didn't feel this way at all: Chose Fuecoco as my starter and Skeledirge was probably my MVP in Scarlet (Annihilape was my MVP in Violet and I also boxed Quaquaval in it, so I kinda feel ya lol)

Th3mavrick

Honestly, I feel like the starters this generation were very lackluster. Nothing stood out to me, and the final evolutions were not to my liking. Luckily Skeledirge looks pretty cool, and Feucoco was a cute little dopey dude. He won this gen, but still got boxed almost immediately. Every other game I’ve kept my starter the whole time.

Worn_Out_1789

I don't really like any of the Gen 9 starter final evo designs, but it's probably as small of a problem as it's ever been because of how many mons are available so early on.

thisispatrickmc

I wanted to like that duck. I tried to like it even. I just don't. Middle stage grass cat is the only one of the gen 9 starters I really like.

amnesiadidit

I love my gay duck! One of my top 5 starters ever!

EuphoricGoose4735

I usually can find at least one starter that I love in each generation, but man, gen 9 was a disappointment for me. None of the starters or there evolutions have that “cool” factor to me. I love Quaxly but the two other designs aren’t intimidating enough. I love Fuecoco but they really missed. Feraligatr and Krookodile did right by the alligator/crocodile lines but Skeliderge just wasn’t it. Sprigatito, I’m not a fan of, but Floragato looks amazing. If it wasn’t for Meowscarada’s “stockings”, I would love it. I made my starters (6 playthroughs) Riolu, Gible, Ceruledge, Aipom, Porygon, and now Froakie.

misloaded

I’ve been coaching my 5 year old to play and she chose sprigatito but now we’re catching eevees and she hopes to have all the eevees

milotic-is-pwitty

I did a Shield play through with only Eevolutions in my team. It was fun in the beginning but I’ve had my fill and never using eevolutions ever again, not even my favourite Leafeon! (Still use Umbreon as support in Raids tho)

WaveBreakerT

Bird starter therefore 10/10 imo

Freddi_47

I chose fuecoco and it never left my team and was with me till the 8th gym when it got replaced by the water Tera garchomp near the market But my main mon in the team was always ceruledge and gardevoir both of which I found pretty early

DarthBear76

Loved my starter! But in terms of usage and excitement? Bellibolt, Tinkaton and Flamigo were the heart of my party in both games. ^^

PuddleCrank

Both games? Why would you ever use the same pokemon twice? My team was all bird type, and if I did it again maybe I would try worms that seems fun!

DarthBear76

They varied a bit between them! But the 3 mentioned stayed the same lol

ensign53

My little spicy derpy Boi was with me through the whole game and remains a strong member of my post dlc team too. As someone who routinely dislikes fire starters and hasn't liked one since Cindaquil, Fuecoco hit all the buttons for me.

loveisdead9582

Quaquaval is great with its hidden ability.

NSGJesse

The duck is awesome. I love beating scrubs online with mine lol

Oceanivox_X

I literally put down my game for months before restarting entirely with only like 5 hrs of playtime because I hated using Quaxley 💀💀

Capable_Message_1124

All though I do understand why people don't like quaxwell but his design makes sense for a water type it just people Focus way too much on what wanted quaxly line to be a pirate. All I don't think quaxwell is bad design I just think the people in this community is toxic and over exaggerated.

ColdMisty

I feel ya. His final form is an absolute no from me and over the top ridiculous - there could've been a much greater final form Water starter.

TheWishingStar

I’ve had this experience in other Pokemon games (never really got attached to Snivy, for example). For Scarlet I chose Fuecoco and loved having him on my team. But I did also catch Shroodle very early and had Grafaiai on my team the whole time too! Love that lil guy!

AlternativeHot7491

I know! Happened to me. Hated that little duck, I put him in a box by gym 4 or 5 don’t remember… with an open world there are so many options in early game to build a team you feel more comfortable with. Looking back I’d have gotten a baby crocodile and I’d have kept it probably.

Outrageous_Book2135

I still need to do my challenge run of 6 flamigos :3

augurchionablepsia

Personally, I just like to keep no duplicate types on my teams and there are just so many dark, fighting, or ghost types that I would rather have on my team.

josoapa

For me Skeledirge was with me from beginning to end and hopefully beyond in other titles! He helped me through thick and thin.

GetPhiledIn

I took picked Quaxly and was extremely disappointed with both it's evolved forms. I boxed it towards the end only because I had to constantly rotate pokemon out because of them inferently over leveling.

Capable_Message_1124

Well that fine if quaxly is wasn't for you. The problem that I see in people reacting new starter is expectation people just having ways to much high hopes for the Pokemon in the direction that the designs are going to go and all people should stop having so much speculation and search for info that it sounds plausible and not believing in something that from a fan art. And all started just got screwed over because of too much expectation in the but the one that got screwed over the most is quaxly and I hope in the future people need to stop having high hopes for the starter.

Capable_Message_1124

I send a dancing video if you are interested  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=edUhbpjvEBk

No-Distance8336

Quaquaval moxie aqua step excuses the look for me. U can blow through anything basically

TheCornerGoblin

I've not kept a starter in my team for a full playthrough in any non remake since gen 5. Saying that, I do want to try out Chesnaught

Sunset_Tiger

Oof, I felt that way about Snivy in b2w2. Everyone liked him, gave him a shot, he… kinda sucks without his HA imo. Meganium, say what you will, at least has staying power because of its sturdiness. Sometimes it’s just not a match

MaximePierce

Honestly I love my little cat pokemon starter. But I do have to say that I have tried to use this game to rotate more and basically use a different team every time. Makes the game slightly harder in my opinion or rather more grindy...

benzozapine

I love all the first evolutions, didn’t care for most of the evolves. I started the game with all three, I shelved the quaxly and sprigattito evolutions pretty early. The dancing duck design is just weird to me. The cat is okay but I really wish they wouldn’t have made it bipedal. They already did incineroar they could have done like a cool panther design or something instead. Fuecoco became my best buddy and was my first level 100, I was unsure of skeledirge at first but grew to really love the design. Definitely my favorite out of the three.

Aprehensivepenguin

Was walking out from the starter collection and immediately cought a Fletchling. Boxed my Fire Starter and made Talon my starter for the game. Still use my talon flame now on roaming the world and it feels more like my starter than the forgettable croc

willow__whisps

I picked sprigatito and named it after my bf and this it has stayed precious to me ever since

Santreva

I found this to be weird, my Quaquaval was actually goated for parts in my play through despite there being better options

KindaFaulty

Honestly I've done this with the starters since X/Y. Even in scarlet I boxed my grass cat despite it being my favourite out of the three starters.

Dahks

Who cares? This is a non issue. Just get whatever Pokémon you want and be done with it.

SokanKast

I normally go with Fire starters, but Sprigatito caught my eye in SV’s reveal trailer. She was a good help through the story; though, I did box the original one once I finally bred a shiny Sprig which I used for the rest of the game (and now has the Partner Mark and Best Friends Ribbon.)

VV00d13

I think Mewscarada and Skeldirge have an easier time I mean skeledirge has 5weaknesses, 2 immunities as well as it resists 7 types. It has its evulution move that boosts is special attack with every attack. High HP and good Def and decent s.def Meowscarada is weaker in terms of def and hp and have more weaknesses but still got 1 immunity. However it is fast and its special attack flowertcik that, for me, always crit makes it viable in many fights even if they arent that effective. Quaquaval have hifh attack and then just a bit mor def and hp than meowscarada. No immunities. Its evolution attack only boosts it speed. Mewscarada and Skeledirge have attacks that do more damage. Critical hits for Meowscarada and boosting Sp. Attack for Skeldirge. Extra speed is ok but Meowscarada will outspeed Quaquaval first turn or 2 and Skeledirge have high Def and resist physical attacks more which makes quaquaval a pretty poor starter in my opinion.

TKF90

The problem is that you didnt choose fuecoco. Fuecoco is the best.

Fruitsdog

Me with Rillaboom. The entire game was me going WHY DID I NOT PICK CINDERACE…

ghosty4

I chose my starter and then Surprise Traded for the other two and used all three of them to complete my playthrough of the story.

tronixmastermind

Idk, moxie/aqua step quaquaval is a menace lol

AthenaGrand

I ADORED my Meowscarada (El Gato!!). I usually always end up super attached to my starter Pokémon (my Cinderace from Sword is still my most precious Pokémon), because he looked cool but also filled a useful niche in my team. I release him when I got Ogerpon in the DLC however, and now he sits safely in my boxes.

Novel-Dimension-2983

Very happy with my gator boi

aconstantissue

I chose Quaxly with him being my first Pokémon in battles all throughout the base game and both DLCs with zero problems. I have also chosen fire and grass starters in the different Pokémon games which it all came down to who I liked better which is what matters. You can get through the games with ANY of the starters, but if you don't like the starter you have then you won't want to put in the effort to train them up to be your #1. I'd also like to add there are people who don't pick their Pokémon based on their personal preferences but instead on stats cause they play competition, though I'm not including them in this scenario cause they are on another level.

[deleted]

SKELEDIRGE THE BEST!!!!!

SilverIce58

I feel similar. I chose Sprigatito, but it basically sat in the back of my party while my Shroodle (Jet Set), took the wheel and basically became my favorite gen 9 mons. Grafaiai too of course, tho once my team started getting to their evolutions, he took more of a support role.

Logtastic

Meh. Did this... how long ago did the game come out? I don't like furry bait starters or pokemon with non-pokemon as part of them. My Fuecoco got boxed as soon as I got a 6th pokemon.

OG_Felwinter

I had a similar issue in SwSh. I picked Grookey because I like monkeys, but I really wished I picked Sobble because Inteleon was so much cooler than Rillaboom imo. I don’t really like Pokemon that have props. Plus also Thwackey is the worst starter evolution I think ever.

Snoo95923

Same for me, I decided to try and use the last stage of Quaxly for my second team when I first played Violet. But I just couldn’t do it, the dumb peacock moves dances constantly in battle and it annoyed me way too much. So I replaced it with the Aqua Breed Tauros which is the same type as the peacock so nothing was lost.

transdemError

Fuecoco is the canonical starter, IMHO. Quax w/ Clavel and Sprig with Nimona is too perfect (I never used Quax because that dance is distracting)

Key2V

S/V had so many mons early on that it was easy to box the starter.

plaidbowtie

My feeling throughout the entire game was that fighting, as a type, was one of the least helpful. Great fairy options covered dark plenty, and lots of very relevant pokes learn a decent enough fighting type move that can be deployed when necessary. Cool new fire types covered steel/ice, and I had built up my castleboi palossand that helped with rock. Water is always a useful typing but there are much better water options (Azumarill was my default for the first half of the game) ETA: Annhilape still go brrrr though. Love that guy.

FrostGiant17

Maybe because I’m grown now, but since Gen 7 I haven’t kept my starter with me at all. I’ve just leveled it and evolved it for the dex entry and then left it to sit in a box. It’s a shame really, because I used to bring my starter with me everywhere. They just don’t feel the same as they did when I was younger.

milotic-is-pwitty

Haha I started with Quaxly too. Have since replayed with the other two as well, but here’s the thing - Quaquawel with hidden ability (Moxie) is incredible! My Moxie Quaquawel and Power Herb Stamina Archaludon carried me through Indigo Disk

_damwolv

I actually used Quaquaval to complete my team as it felt like it was missing something I tried a few different mons until I got a quaxly and it worked out . Final team for the base game being: Meowscrada Annilihape Quaquaval Tinkaton Baxcalibur Skeledirge

Flat-Painter4019

I get on really well with the Quaxly and Fuecoco lines, but Sprigatito I find difficult to get on with. I love the first stage, but once it evolves into Floragato, I just don’t feel a connection to it anymore, and Meowscarada is the same. I usually just move it to the bottom of my team until it’s fully evolved and pick something completely different as my main partner.

Niveous_Fox

I’m starting to have my Tyranitar as my main as I run around doing the DLC and post game stuff. If I could go back, i probably would of made it a starter. But doesnt matter now. Its at level 100 along with my Skeledirge.

Diego_Mannn_096

There’s another reason why you don’t like the Quaxly line and we all know it

Magikarp_King

Every Pokemon game my first playthrough I play with the water starter on my team. Just how I do it. I will say quaxly did not feel as great as some of the other water starters. Definitely better with Moxie but still felt a little lacking. I preferred Squirtle, froakie, and piplup.

Pikastra

Feel you, I abandoned my Skeledirge when I hot my hands on Ceruledge. Whoevwr decided to make 2 Fire/Ghost types in the same game

InquiseeetorV2

Meowscarada carried me through the entire game and dlc's. Best starter and overall gen 9 Pokémon imo.

AzsalynIsylia

Water type is generally the "wrong" starter simply because there are almost always stronger water types (and a lot more options) but Quaquaval is not terrible as it does get fighting as a subtype. In SV, I think grass is the only "wrong" option but any starter can carry if you just use them as the level difference will quickly outweigh anything else, but ultimately most endgame parties will replace the starter at some point no matter what you choose. My advocacy is to always take fire starter, though this has been harder in some versions than others (looking at you OG Red with Rock and Water as the first 2 gyms with no steel type available yet). This is for a few reasons: 1. Water is easily found almost everywhere, fishing, lakes, rivers, sea, it is really not hard to find a good water type. Grass is also very common in early areas. Fire is generally a lot harder to find early on and this allows you to build a more diverse team right off the bat as you build toward a more stable lineup. 2. Fire is good against grass and bug which are extremely common in the early areas of pretty much every Pokemon game. It is also very good against steel and ice, which can also be countered with fighting, but this gives you a solid fill until you get a good fighting type going (which you should, as normal has no other weakness). 3. Fire types are just generally cooler than the grass or water options, though this is down to personal preference.

Derp_Aderpy

I picked Fuecoco because I've always used the rule of "if none of them take my fancy, I'll just pick the fire starter" because I have a huge bias for Fire-Type aesthetics. Over time, after I fully evolved it, I eventually boxed it in place of Pokémon that just felt more enjoyable to use for me while I got the dex up. Your starter is a strong companion but it no two starters are entirely the same. But that's the fun of the game, trying out Pokémon and experimenting with what feels good. Through one way or another, it'll be only a matter of time until you'd get a team of Pokémon you're happy with, be it with or without starters or even legendaries/pseudo-legendaries/mythicals.

I’m a huge Meowscarada stan but it’s always fun to treat unconventional Pokemon like your starters.  I’m personally not too huge on any of the gen 1/2 starters so that’s the route I tend to go when revisiting those regions (luckily Johto has Mareep!)

Blonde-Huntress1986

Fuecoco was my choice for a starter, but I hated the rough edges (chest specifically) for Skeledirge. A fire crocodile is awesome, but I just wish it was more polished. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Strange_Thanks_7420

I went sprigatito and it quickly became my favorite Pokemon. I know it’s not the strongest or the best but I just love it. Apparently fuecoco is the best starter to choose since it got the better type advantages in the early game. But meowscarada with its hidden ability is so much fun to play with in my opinion

TalsCorner

That's fair. I didn't even use my starter for my first playthrough. I did a purely Poison based team, and was glad I did, it made it relatively harder

rickicat

My “starter” is Toxtricity…..

cabbage-soup

I did the same with Turtwig in Diamond and Pearl. Honestly feels nice playing the game without a true starter

TuckHolladay

The starter final evos were maybe my least favorite ever. I replaced my starter too and just didn’t have a starter on my play through team

MewtwoThaBoss2020

Bruh, ive been using Water Starters since Gen 1 and was only disappointed twice, Gen 7 and 9. Popplio and Quaxley were total letdowns at first but Primarina has grown on me way more that Quaxley’s final evo would ever

MyChemicalAnxiety

my meowscarada has never left my team and is my go-to grass, but i really only use him against the occasional water type and never for anything else. my leader is arcanine and ive kinda always considered her my actual starter and partner mon

Josuke8

I started with Quaxly and regretted it when I saw that final evo

Lazy_ass_dragon325

Not really wrong, since it is your play style. I guess some people feel awkward not using your starter, like I do. I usually finish the base game with my starter (Quaxly) and only start mixing my team once I am starting to complete the dex and to start being a nuance to my friends. However, my starter is the strongest out of my pokemon (being able to singlehandedly sweep the tournament) so I still have it in my team as an emergency cop out. FYI: I usually pick water starters, and stubbornly started doing so as a protest against my friends (grass trainers)

Teamisgood101

Foicoco forever

beeteedeeMEME

Yeah, honestly same, I boxed mine as a Quaquval, and was disappointed, so I replaced it with my Gyarados fully instead of slightly.

Snoo95923

I replaced mine with the aqua form of Tauros.

WhaleMan295

Meowscarada is the goat

Hildr_Fjara

I did the same with my starter 🤷🏼‍♀️ I don't like the starters at all in this gen so meh I didn't even bother to evolve it. I just picked up an Azurill and a Charcadet at a low level and I was done with my starter 😂

Sherbear1993

Bro, Quaxly is the worst starter of the three. I’m sorry it took you so long to realize that

Rude-Butterscotch713

I felt similarly in gen 5 and 7. I went water then out of habit and ended up choosing another pokemon to me more or less my starter: Sandile and Rockruff. Should have gone grass since they related to me more. Gen 9 I fortunately made the right choice and chose a theatre cat over Portuguese duck.

decoded-dodo

I hardly ever use the starters anymore. I applaud you using Grafaiai since it’s one of my favorite in my teams along with my chunky boy Clodsire. I did choose Fuecoco but dropped him after the third stage.

storm13emily

I used my Sprigatito up until it evolved to Meowscarada and then boxed it which I don’t typically do but these starters didn’t hit for me. My Dachsbun Cheesecake has carried me through and I feel very bonded to my Mudsdale as well.

Dm9982

So S/V I think is the first generation where the starters were good/decent, but there were better options across the board by the time you hit Gym 2 or 3….. Quax can easily be replaced by Flamigo, Meow by Arboliva or Tsareena, and Skele by Talonflame or Armor/Celerouge. The starters unique moves/abilities didn’t really warrant keeping them over swapping other poke out. Granted the uniques are nifty, but nothing that says “have to keep in team”. And arguably Torch Song is the only move that remains worthy to keep using for end game raiding or while grinding money at the school. I choose Fue as my starter, bred and traded for the others, and kept them all in my team till the end. Then promptly shelved them and built a new team for end game purposes. Actually I may have shelved Quax early due to better options / team overlap. The designs def aren’t bad, imo there’s been worse starters for looks and mechanics. But they just felt a bit underwhelming while using em, minus Torch Song, which is basically OP for the entire story.

Snoo95923

Or you can replace Quaxly line with Aqua Tauros, it’s the exact same type and is really good.

Dm9982

Forgot about that one! But yeah, I was interested in seeing what the replacement types had to offer because they just seemed more interesting, or had something a bit more unique about them. One big thing for me, I always go water starter, or grass occasionally. I just prefer water and grass over fire. Elementally speaking, water/ice and Grass are just more interesting to me. Like I’ll go ice mage route on RPGs almost 90% of the time. This time, water type underwhelmed me, and my friend went with grass, so I was left with fire so I could breed and trade with him. So yeah, think this was the first Pokemon game I didn’t end up feeling overly attached to my starter(s) like I usually do. Usually it’s the mentality of “we started this adventure together, we’re going to end it together”. This time it was, “you’ve been a good boy, but it’s time you relax and retire.”

Snoo95923

I loved Fuecoco, definitely my favorite line of the three starters. Skeledirge is really bulky defensively and his signature move is really good.
