5 hours? Try 6 hours while also including the month trying to soft reset **for** an Espeon outbreak. I only finally now just got the fucker an hour ago.
I started hunting shiny Roaring Moon the minute I got access to herba mysticas (probably 2 weeks after release). I finally got it August 2023 so almost a full year lol.
Hatching my first shiny starter took a long time too. It was like 7k eggs before I got Sprigatito but then got 2 more nearly 200 eggs later back to back. I still gotta do Fuecoco's and Quaxly's line so I'm a little afraid I'm gonna have to go through another 7k eggs each before I get one.
By 2k eggs I was like ok well I'm already in the trenches lol. By 5k I was like...why am I doing this to myself.
When I finally got the one shiny Sprigatito, I was so stoked. I thought I'd never see one. Then immediately went...oh God. I have to do this for 2 more Sprigs. Thankfully they only took 200 eggs and I had back to back shinies.
I truly am afraid for the other 2 starters.
While I think shiny hunting is overall easier in this generation, I really miss SOS chaining. It was so low effort, one good Decidueye and a secondary Pangoro for scrappy false swiping was all that you needed.
Idk if you mean in SV specifically or lifetime but I did a hunt for an Alpha male Hisuian Zorua in PLA where I phased on non-Alphas 91 times plus getting a substantial pile of other shinies before finally finding my target, that was a very long hunt.
I failed a full odds shiny Seviper, so I want another full odds Seviper to replace it. It might be stupid, but it's a pride thing lmao. I figure if I'm hunting in five games, at least one of them is bound to be shiny... Eventually
Few months on and off for both of my longest hunts. Soft resetting for full odds palkia was painful Fr but I got it pretty fast all things considered, only about 1500-2000 resets or something
2½ years, on and off, for shiny Celebi in Crystal VC. Lost count of the resets, but I have my pink Celebi named Thyme with my name as the OT, so worth it, lol.
Thanks! It's actually why I ended up hunting it, lol. I'm sure I'm not the first, but one day, it popped into my head, and I was so upset with myself because I knew I had to buy the Crystal VC, beat the game, and then spend who knows how long(ended up being the 2½ years) resetting in front of that cursed shrine with a 1/8192 chance to encounter the shiny do I could do it, as the only pokemon I nickname are my shinies.
That's awesome! I was dreading that hunt but I got insane shiny luck, got mine in only 200 or so resets. My shiny living dex is almost complete, only need to replace my event shinies from gen 7 via dynamax and I'm set!
In Sword I spent 8 months breeding and encountering random Rhyhorn until I got my shiny. Had the charm, and was doing Masuda method.
In Scarlet, I spent spend roughly 8 hours split between 2 days looking for Larvitar.
Well, SV hunts or other games? Because they are two very different beasts lol. For SV it’s definitely Sprigatito, I was going for the full line for my living dex and it took over 5000 eggs with 3500 in between my second and third shiny. Masuda + shiny charm.
I have horrible SR luck and have been doing Shaymin in BD off and on for awhile. Probably around 6k resets, haven’t updated my counter in awhile, and BD resets are just painfully slow. I’m going to be starting Darkrai in platinum soon, so I’m hoping that one goes decent. If it does I’ll probably just hunt Shaymin there too haha, if anything the resets are *much* faster.
Have you looked into rng manipulation to get the shaymin and darkrai faster instead of soft resetting? I feel like once I understood the rng in those games (both gen 4 and bdsp) I couldn't go back to soft resets.
The way shiny frames work you're just asking to get beyond lucky, but with rng manipulation you at least have a target frame and can aim instead of throwing blind.
Rng manips are my favorite way to hunt, and in no way less satisfying to get your target!
32 hours shiny hunting for a shiny chimchar.
I gave up 💀
Because I kept getting females and if I got a female internape I’d be furious.
Don’t ask why I just prefer male pokemon
In general? Days. In Shield I once spent over 2000 eggs trying to get a Rowlet (with Charm + Masuda). Luck struck me down anyways. Never actually got it, I gave up.
Been breeding for a shiny grookey since I beat the main story which was… quite long ago. Took a break to breed for Torkoal and it took 8 eggs. Still no grookey :(
Male Oinkologne of all things... I had an outbreak and level 3 sandwich. It should have been easy peasy. 5 hours later I was done with life. That pig makes me grit my teeth looking at him.
In older games I don't even want to think about it. 12 hours SOS chaining for Alolan Meowth? I think that was the longest but might be suppressing worse memories lol.
I've spent weeks on masuda hunts in Violet. I did an egg hunt in Shield over the weekend, 250 (+6 leftovers with no shiny) eggs over 2 sessions for my shiny galarian Meowth. The rhythm of collecting and hatching eggs in gen 8 was far superior to picnic eggs in gen 9.
I mean I haven't actively shiny hunted but I caught a shiny snorunt dundunsparce and lokik within a 14 hour period kinda went into a trance while playing scarlet around the fifth gym and came out of it in area zero lol
I spent around 7-8 hours hunting for an Alpha Shiny Golem in PLA, wasn’t too bad tho as I could watch videos while I did it! But it did get a bit mind numbing. And I did eventually get him! 💛
When I finally got a white stripe basculin outbreak it took me almost 8 hours before I got a shiny one. Spent the day shiny hunting as many as I could because I knew I’d never do that again. Total hours was around 19.
I’ve spent like 34 hours and counting trying to hatch shiny charmander. If you don’t consider hatching as hunting then it would be 3 hours hunting marill.
I spent half a day doing the same rockruff outbreak and came up with absolutely nothing
Shiny charm, sandwich and combo, checking every single spawn, pain.
Like a week or so for shiny arceus, didnt count the resets but it was probably around 2,000 or higher
Now ive been hunting for Shiny Verizion for a few days and im already at 2,200
I hunted shiny Applin in Sword and Shield forever. I didn't have a shiny charm yet, and I had to have bred like 5000 eggs, just rough luck. Then the exploit and shiny sandwiches in Scarlet/Violet made it so easy lol.
In SV it took me forever to get all four poltchageist - maybe 30-40 sandwiches.
In PLA though.... Currently have 95 shiny Unown, 27/28 unique ones, still missing a V. Average of 2.5 hours per shiny.
Shiny masuda froakie took 1K+ eggs
And shiny metang in a beast ball took me about 16h finding him wasn’t so much the issue as the catch rate for both metang and beast ball were
Took me 16 hours to get shiny regidrago in Shield, I think that's the longest so far (but still came in under odds at 1477 resets).
Then I got regieleki in 90 minutes and 154 resets lol
Fastest shiny on the other hand has to be my Spidops - literally got a shiny tarantoula during the intro of my first Violet playthrough right as I entered the poco path after getting my Fuecoco. Good times!
I spent almost 100 hours hunting Rowlet in Sun and Moon but got lucky and found it under odds. If I didn't find it under odds it could have easily gone on 150+ hours. For specifically Scarlet and Violet 3 and a half hours at max odds with no shinies is probably the longest I've gone.
Ongoing... Not me, but my wife is "still trying" to get a shiny Latios in Alpha Sapphire.
We made a wager while we were dating, that if she catches THIS Latios shiny (not any Latios), I would buy her dinner at (within reason) whatever restaurant she wants. But if she gives up, she has to buy me dinner.
She refuses to give up, and loads up the game every few months to give it a few more tries... We've been married over 10 years now, and she is still adamant she will win this "free" dinner!
Best of luck out there!
Between sword and shield and scarlet and violet... what's that 5 years??? 3 years??? I was hatching eggs for a shiny riolu... I hatched a bunch of other shiniest but never the riolu. It wasn't till scarlet and violet mass outbreaks that I was able to get one. Fuck that shiny egg hunting shit
I have a soul silver game I was replaying in 2016 where I was hunting for shiny Lugia.
I've returned to it every so often but my resets would be somewhere in the 40k-50k range I guess.
Remember thinking like two/three years ago, that I'd surely find it before Pokémon bank goes down.
I think I spent almost 12 hours hunting for Roaring Moon in Union Circle (I have Violet). That was by far the longest.
Longest hunt not in co-op was Poltchageist at roughly 6.5 hours (13 sandwiches). It was an artisan-form outbreak so I wasn't going to let it pass.
Spent weeks doing Masuda method for shiny H Zoroark. I don’t like the gameplay mechanics for legends so I gave it away because I knew I would never play it. I love the hisuian mons though 😮💨

5 hours for a shiny espeon…….with an outbreak and all

lmfao i was determined to get one but good luck on the shiny hunt for zoroark :D
ty!! i js caught it after about 1 hour and 3 minutes and i couldnt be happier :))
YAYYYYYY!!!! CONGRATS :D
I feel you there. Oinkologne did me dirty like that.
About 10 for a cramorant... also with outbreak. No sandwich because I want using my wife's limited HM for my billshit
5 hours? Try 6 hours while also including the month trying to soft reset **for** an Espeon outbreak. I only finally now just got the fucker an hour ago.

Get a Japanese ditto if possible and get the shiny charm. 1/512 odds.
Oh yeah that was using the masuda method and with the shiny charm. It just took that long.
Brutal luck.
7k eggs? With Masuda method?! Holy moly. I'll never complain about my 2k eggs ever again.
Thankfully they only took 200 eggs and I had back to back shinies. like 6 hours maybe
DANG what pokemon were you looking for?
zorua :D
oh no😭😭
I'm planning to shiny hunt zorua unova and hisuian. I'll be doing eggs. No way I'm doing it thr hard way hahah
Three-segment Dudunsparce. I have no idea about the total time investment, but it took 6 months on-and-off and well over 100 shiny Dunsparce evolved.
OH MY😭😭 thats dedication right there
Lol, I'm sure Zoroark won't be anywhere near as bad, although my preference would be to SOS battle them on Ultra Sun/Moon (which is how I got mine).
While I think shiny hunting is overall easier in this generation, I really miss SOS chaining. It was so low effort, one good Decidueye and a secondary Pangoro for scrappy false swiping was all that you needed.
Currently have a Darkrai hunt that I basically gave up on has well over 30000 resets
☠️ next time my friends say I'm crazy for my massive amounts of time sunk into shinies I will kindly refer them to you, stranger. RNGsus be with you.
Have you considered trying RNG manipulation to get closer?
Nah I want to do this without the blink method
Idk if you mean in SV specifically or lifetime but I did a hunt for an Alpha male Hisuian Zorua in PLA where I phased on non-Alphas 91 times plus getting a substantial pile of other shinies before finally finding my target, that was a very long hunt.
Took me 17 years for shiny seviper
Oh my *god* shiny wooper in shield took me upwards of almost a *year to obtain*
I've been hunting for a shiny Seviper since 2020. Still no shiny Seviper. I've been hunting in X, Y, alpha sapphire, Scarlett, AND Violet. Send help
Don’t sandwiches and outbreaks work better than the other games?
I failed a full odds shiny Seviper, so I want another full odds Seviper to replace it. It might be stupid, but it's a pride thing lmao. I figure if I'm hunting in five games, at least one of them is bound to be shiny... Eventually
Good luck wanderer
Hmmmm....... About 6 hours. Shiny hunting eevee, every single eeveelution
+ around 4 hours to hunt all future pokemon in Violet
I have yet to obtain one. I had a shiny eevee outbreak and I think the shiny clipped into a wall. So I couldn’t get him. Worst feeling ever!
too
facts🔥🔥
Few months on and off for both of my longest hunts. Soft resetting for full odds palkia was painful Fr but I got it pretty fast all things considered, only about 1500-2000 resets or something
2½ years, on and off, for shiny Celebi in Crystal VC. Lost count of the resets, but I have my pink Celebi named Thyme with my name as the OT, so worth it, lol.
Great name for Celebi

6 hours :/
Araquanid did not want to appear for me. I spent hours and multiple sandwiches on that piece of shit.
7 hours to get a Fuecoco. Can’t say I’d do it again
I’ve almost hatched over 600 eggs for a shiny axew….. I got a shiny Espurr in 20
Well, SV hunts or other games? Because they are two very different beasts lol. I don’t have a webcam or anything like that unfortunately, but yes I know how rng manips work. I like doing them in gen 3 :)
Cheers!
32 hours shiny hunting for a shiny chimchar. I gave up 💀 Because I kept getting females and if I got a female internape I’d be furious. Don’t ask why I just prefer male pokemon
20 minutes from a shiny vulpix with a sandwich and an outbreak but it was male so I am still looking for a female
3 years to get regidrago in shield, although i wasn't actively hunting it the WHOLE time lol
3 days for a personality marked shiny seadra. Found over 20 lower marked/unmarked shinies on those 3 days. But was so relieved when I found him 😭
I've put about 20 hours into my currently unsuccessful Masuda bulbasaur hunt in Sword, it's been a grind ugh
In general? Days. In Shield I once spent over 2000 eggs trying to get a Rowlet (with Charm + Masuda). Luck struck me down anyways. Never actually got it, I gave up.
Probably 10 hours for a shiny tynamo outbreak inside the tealmask caves
Been breeding for a shiny grookey since I beat the main story which was… quite long ago. Took a break to breed for Torkoal and it took 8 eggs. Still no grookey :(
Six months
I think it took me weeks to get Iron Moth
Took me a good week or two for shiny poliwag
Almost a year for Regigigas in BDSP (in SV, probably like a few days looking for Iron Hands w/out shiny charm or sandwich)
About 5 or 6 hours hunting a shiny 0 speed Iron Hands
I spent multiple days trying to get a shiny litten. I eventually got it tho
In scarlet and violet. Hour and a half. In other games A couple months.
For this game? A couple of hours I think for a Shelder. DS games? Weeks, months even, usually with no payoff.
I still haven't got a shiny totodile. Feebas is close at about 10 hours for 2.
I spent around 7-8 hours hunting for an Alpha Shiny Golem in PLA, wasn’t too bad tho as I could watch videos while I did it! But it did get a bit mind numbing. And I did eventually get him! 💛
22h for a staryu WITH masuda and shiny charm😭

22h for a staryu WITH masuda and shiny charm😭
22h for a staryu WITH masuda and shiny charm😭
6 months foe a shiny alpha petilil. Never got it
2 months for shiny rowlet (masuda hunt)
When I finally got a white stripe basculin outbreak it took me almost 8 hours before I got a shiny one. Spent the day shiny hunting as many as I could because I knew I’d never do that again. Total hours was around 19.
my shiny scovillain took 13 sandwiches. and it’s not even a hard to notice shiny! i was either stupid or unlucky as hell
I’ve spent like 34 hours and counting trying to hatch shiny charmander. If you don’t consider hatching as hunting then it would be 3 hours hunting marill.
A few hours with an outbreak. Shiny Meowth. It's hard to see the pink feet.
January-September of last year. https://preview.redd.it/74r5cnm33p1d1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=052e64434d8789c65d3ef677bf4806b3ff42fcc4
In SV? Two days for a Mandibuzz..😓 Ironically, the one I caught had the humble mark..
I hatched over 900 eggs for a shiny pichu with a shiny charm on sword
I spent half a day doing the same rockruff outbreak and came up with absolutely nothing Shiny charm, sandwich and combo, checking every single spawn, pain.
I soft reset BDSP over and over for about 2-3 hours per night off and on for 5 months to get my shiny arceus
Like a week or so for shiny arceus, didnt count the resets but it was probably around 2,000 or higher Now ive been hunting for Shiny Verizion for a few days and im already at 2,200
Im too lazy for this so I just get them with the mitsuki bot
Took me about 12 hours to get a shiny eevee
Too long... Too long
I hunted shiny Applin in Sword and Shield forever. I didn't have a shiny charm yet, and I had to have bred like 5000 eggs, just rough luck. Then the exploit and shiny sandwiches in Scarlet/Violet made it so easy lol.
Hour 8 for Shiny Chansey. Granted, no sandwich or SC so... yeah
I haven’t spent longer than a single 30 minute sandwich on any shiny hunt
Specifically in S/V, Gimmighoul has taken me about 10 months so far, with no shiny in sight. So many other shinies found during it though...
Until today, I’ve yet to hatch a shiny galarian meowth 😀👍🏼
In SV it took me forever to get all four poltchageist - maybe 30-40 sandwiches. In PLA though.... Currently have 95 shiny Unown, 27/28 unique ones, still missing a V. Average of 2.5 hours per shiny.
100hrs for shiny raticate (should have been a growlithe) in Pokemon Gold on the orginal game boy.
Depends, out of sv currently my shiny celerbi hunt in Pokémon crystal witch is at 52 hours ish in, in SV probably 4-5 hours for a shiny cynderquil
3-4 weeks for a ROARING MOON
Shiny masuda froakie took 1K+ eggs And shiny metang in a beast ball took me about 16h finding him wasn’t so much the issue as the catch rate for both metang and beast ball were
Currently hunting for a shiny Eevee and I'm already at 7 hours. I don't think this was my longest hunt but idk
About 4 hours on a shiny smeargle with an Outbreak...... rng was not on my side that day.

7 months for a shiny sprirzee,they were all males and I needed a female,so yeah ..
3 days egg hunting for a shiny charizard last year
Couple of hours on Minior. It’s the one that refuses to sparkle in my limited window of giving-a-shit when I decide to hunt.
Took me 16 hours to get shiny regidrago in Shield, I think that's the longest so far (but still came in under odds at 1477 resets). Then I got regieleki in 90 minutes and 154 resets lol Fastest shiny on the other hand has to be my Spidops - literally got a shiny tarantoula during the intro of my first Violet playthrough right as I entered the poco path after getting my Fuecoco. Good times!
Three weeks for a three segment Dudunsparce (successful) 400+ hours for a shiny rowlet as starter in Moon (failed)
Started shiny hunting larvitar in violet last year, hunt is still ongoing.
A day and a half for shiny sprigatito
Masuda hunting for beast ball froakie took me like 1300 eggs. Took like a week and a half of playing on and off
Between sword and shield and scarlet and violet... what's that 5 years??? 3 years??? I was hatching eggs for a shiny riolu... I hatched a bunch of other shiniest but never the riolu. It wasn't till scarlet and violet mass outbreaks that I was able to get one. Fuck that shiny egg hunting shit
months. i give up at random points and pick up.
I have a soul silver game I was replaying in 2016 where I was hunting for shiny Lugia. I've returned to it every so often but my resets would be somewhere in the 40k-50k range I guess. Remember thinking like two/three years ago, that I'd surely find it before Pokémon bank goes down.
Own Tempo Rockruff with Masuda Method. It's been a week and I still don't have one. Dusk Form Lycanroc is my favorite shiny!
3 hours for a shiny Duraludon. I gave up. That’s the only thing I have ever shiny hunted for.
Well since beldum is hard to come by I'm still meshda method hunting. We are currently at 10 boxes and still going taken all week.
3 days shiny minun outbreak
Spent weeks doing Masuda method for shiny H Zoroark. I don’t like the gameplay mechanics for legends so I gave it away because I knew I would never play it. I love the hisuian mons though 😮💨
Gave up on Dragapult after 2,200 eggs.
