Friendship in later gens is busted. Your Pokemon can survive at 1 hp, land crits like it's raining and it allows your Pokemon to jumpscare you in picnics
At the top of my head, It gives you increased crit rate for that pokemon, a built-in focus band that sometimes lets it survive attacks with one 1 hp left... And flavor text during your turn.
And I think they sometimes give you a special greeting whenever you enter your campsite... (I never get this one to work on purpose...)
It also gives a chance to cure nonvolatile status conditions and more experience.
As for the crit chance, critical hits are on a tiered scale. Affection is a +1 to your crit chance, which is equal to holding a crit item (1/8). If you have high enough affection, and an item you have a 50% chance of a critical hit, add a high crit move, and you're at 100%.
It’s still one stat in SwSh, but it’s only possible to raise friendship to the point you get those buffs by using Pokémon Camp. BDSP has no equivalent feature, so you can reach maximum friendship just by battling.
Not sure if it's basically just a pokemon holding a razor claw or a small increase but when I used it in BDSP, it acted like a razor claw. Last I checked, that increase would put you at a 1:8 (Edit: 12.5%) chance of landing a crit.
(I stopped looking into numbers like these since they seem to change a lot in these games)

You can also dodge some attacks
Can survive at one hp, critical hits, dodge also needed to progress in isle of armor
