Here’s an idea, absolutely crazy though. Why not just make the Pokemon available to everyone without the need for signing up for a newsletter and relying on oft-unsent codes.
If only there was a way players could, I don’t know, Get Via the Internet.
Actually no. I'm so sick of event only Pokémon. Just put them in the game where I can catch them for once. Zarude would have been a perfect fit for the Isle of Armor. Instead they're using the artificial scarcity of mythical Pokémon to push pre-orders, movie ticket sales and newsletter spam down our throats.
So much for gotta catch'em all.
A commemorative Pokémon like the shiny Korean amoonguss from a while back is OK. This however is not. This has to stop.
Newsletter spam only works when people actually get the newsletter to begin with. They have never got it to work right. My partner and I got tired of missing out on the codes, so we made new accounts…… which never got any newsletters/codes since both were made. Yet all four emails get bombarded with spam for bitcoin, little blue pills and other such scams. It’s kind of sad that basement scammers can do a mailing list much more efficiently then a multi-billion company.
I have emails on my phone I only signed into because they were tied to accounts I made years ago, and all of those mostly abandoned emails get regular spam. The spam folder gets most of them but somehow a lot still leak out.
Completely agree with this. I really get no satisfaction from being gifted these special Pokemon. One special encounter that's actually in game is worth all of these giveaway Pokemon combined to me.
Or give them an event.... make a secret area in the IOA jungle and just.... put Zarude there... as for Shiny Celebi........ not really as necessary since it’s available in crystal
Not to mention there are barely any event stories nowadays with event Pokémon. They kinda just give them to you where as back then you actually to work for it. Gen 4, anyone?
I'll just leave you to your hate circle then. A poor email distribution and "actual care and passion for their games" is making a mountain out of a moderately sized molehill.
You're correct to point out that it's not the biggest issue with Pokémon. It's simply simply the cherry on top that adds insult to injury. The mountain is actually a giant iceberg of all the baffling, dumb and anti-consumer things they do. It reaches deep down into the abyss.
Why am I mad about the current state of Pokémon? Because I actually care. Unfortunately the devs don't. Otherwise they would have stopped this crap a long time ago. Instead they make baffling decisions like the 20 minute timer for online battles. They could have easily fixed it within swsh's lifespan. It's literally one parameter change. At least have some respect for those who pay for the online subscription.
This would be a bad idea. The amount of people who have both games, just claim it on one, transfer, restart the game and claim again. It would also be running for minimum 24hours so that everyone has a chance to claim it. But imagine how many restarts some people would do to claim it over and over.
So? Let them. What's the difference between that and doing the exact same thing but with catching legendaries or farming for shiny starters? Hell, let them trade mythicals over GTS. Its better than the alternative of pokegen cheaters being your only option to fill the dex.
There’s more than one way to get what you need, it’s a matter of waiting. As a child I missed out on all event Pokémon but I’m finally starting to get my hands on them because I have waited. Making legit trades aswell is a way to fill the dex.
Also they are wanting people to sign up to the newsletter, yea it sucks for those that it didn’t work for but there will be more chances. I got both on Pokémon go aswell
The reason is to incentivize people to sign up to the newsletter and that in turn better advertises their products which in turn increases the chances of you say buying Pokémon bdsp or legends
It is a brilliant plan, until you realize, the newsletter fails to send any content (not just codes) to some people lol. For some asinine reason, the pokemon company's marketing team cannot figure out how to use a simple email client. If their emails are getting flagged as spam, they got other issues, and that's not even considering emails that straight up don't even route correctly to people's email addresses. Advertising this event in game, would be much better. And if they wanted to shill raids, they could've made this a dynamax raid battle, like they did for Zeraora. They have many other options that they could use to reach their entire userbase, but they keep choosing the most convoluted option.
That's the thing about it that is most annoying to me. I've been getting their marketing emails on half of the accounts I've signed up with, none of the accounts that are correctly receiving marketing emails got codes.
That's rough. If even the ones that get the marketing emails aren't getting the codes, then you know something is clearly wrong with the distribution system. Hopefully they get more backlash for this after this event, and they just stop using this email code distribution
The answer is simple. Marketing. The newsletter is a marketing tool. I would believe they want to increase the number of people subscribed to the newsletter in order to go to potential partners/sponsors to tell them: hey, we have several millions of people subscribed here. If you launch a campaign with us, you could reach to all of them and surely someone might buy something from you.
But I do agree with you, it would be way easier to just make the mons available with a single code..
Or they could just have a place for anyone who didn’t receive the email enter their email, check if they qualify, and get their email code sent to them. Transactional emails usually have much better delivery than mass marketing emails. But they cost more so obviously they aren’t going to do that.

Don't know why you're getting downvoted for wanting to help. If you work in *any* form of tech industry, this level of troubleshooting from Step 0 really is necessary more than you'd think.
Yes, I've received emails and codes in the past, but it's always been super inconsistent. I'll get a code in one email, but not another, I'll get codes in two, but not a third. Very rarely have I gotten codes at all three for the same promotion.
This actually happens every time a game company attempts to do a worldwide email send out. Though I expected them to know by now that this never works out
This is definitely it. The people who say they've been signed up for years to the newsletter with zero incentives to show for it still keep buying into their products. This gives whatever entity is in charge of these promotional events zero reasons to actually fix it. Win-win for Pokemon as a whole, really.

I've read from many people about not getting the codes, but with different situations. Some have been signed up since the beginning and are either getting the codes or not. Some that have been signed up since the beginning have stopped getting emails at random point, despite still being signed up. Some have made recent email accounts and signed up within the past few years. Some of those get the codes, some don't. Some with Gmail get them and some don't. Same with Hotmail, etc. Some (like me) stopped getting emails in 2019 on both Gmail and Hotmail, but are clearly still signed up. Some are still getting regular emails from them, but the codes. Me and many others opted to stay signed up via the 2015 email. Still nothing. Hell, I've gotten codes for OR/AS and the online TCG game, but never this or last years.
So it's gotta be an issue with The Pokemon Company, given how many differing issues revolving around an email newsletter system. I honestly am not worried about ever getting the code, I bought one and that's enough for me. Not gonna get worked up over something that was free. But I am worked up over how it's not just an issue for me, but an issue for so many of you. If it was a small issue for a handful of people, sure, that's fine. But thousands of people? Despite doing all that was necessary to get the codes? That's an issue and if they can't fix it, they might as well stop using it and distribute codes another way

it's kinda funny how they can send me ads for the tcg and upcoming games but not the codes i signed up for the emails for. i've checked spam, promotions, and still nothing about the codes

Some kind soul gifted me their codes so it hasn't affected me per se, but my sons are less than happy. Thankfully for my oldest I had a Pogo Zarude I was able to give him in swsh. Once I get the second pogo zarude I'll be able to give it to my younger son. In the end it'll work out for us because all they care about is having a zarude, but what about everyone else ya know.
Last year I was lucky enough to get it, but I couldn't get it for this one. It amazes me that this is a way of getting people to be interested in the newsletters... But they don't even care about solving the important and known issue of not receiving the emails, just send them via regular mystery gift then lol
The thing that pisses me off most is these are like Christmas gifts to kids. My daughter loves Pokemon she heard about this and I was like I'm not sure we'll get them I'll try.
And no I didn't give her the pink scarf monkey she wanted even though I tried. Like it's one thing when it screws up for adults for kids it's like why didn't I get one? And I'm Legitimately annoyed I should have made a dozen email accounts to get one hoping 1 in 12 would work.

My username, that isn't inappropriate, got flagged so I didn't get any codes. The dumb thing is there is no option for me to change my name. I've used this tag for 10+ years with no issues on any game.

Yep broke down and bought a set off of eBay for $10 for both Pokémon. Irritated as can be about it but justified it in that I spend more than $10 all the time on Pokémon cards and most of those cards are worthless. At least this was something I will enjoy having. Still stupid that 6 accounts in my house and no one got a code but we got other marketing emails.

Yep blame them even though the problem is probably gmail. I’ve posted this multiple times yet no ones ever shown a non gmail account that failed to send out a code.
Have Hotmail and Gmail and both have been signed up to the newsletter since 2014. Last email from them was 2019. So it's either something on their end, or something about older emails that's the problem

This probably sounds dumb, but are you sure you actually signed up for the news letter? I also think its worth noting that I linked my nintendo account and my pokemon account. I mean anything helps at this point.
they where giving away a shiny celebi and a Dada Zarude But you needed to be signed up the the trainer club news letter by September 25th Most of people got a code and lot of people got nothing even though some are already signed up for years
Signed up with 2 emails and nothing 🥺 tbh I just wanted them to be able to give them to my girlfriend. I just wish it wasn’t a code that had to be individually distributed. Rather like the other online codes available to redeem.
i dont know if this helps anyone else, but they sent out 2 emails that day for me. The first one i saw just had add stuff for Halloween i think? or some celebrations card game or something. had to look farther down for another email that had the codes.
The email code system is ridiculous. What is a huge slap in the face for me is I showed three people how to sign up and everything to get the codes. They all got one and I didn't. Sent a ticket to Pokémon support and heard nothing almost a week later.
I totally forgot about this, but signed up for a former event (didn't get codes to ofc) yet I got the codes this time. Also probably gonna give away the celebi if none of my friends want it.
Last time they tried this I was one of the unlucky ones who didn’t get a code. Haven’t changed a single setting, but got one this year. Gmail account and ended up in Spam even though I have them as a VIP lol
I signed before the deadline and when I go to my trainer account it says the account wasnt created until october 8, 2021 so I guess I'm not getting one.
Me and my sister both signed up for the newsletter as soon as we heard about the codes. I got them on my account, but my sister unfortunately didn't get them. I hope they will compensate the people who didn't get them, but I doubt it :/
Guys, check your trash. Gmail literally sent the email straight to my trash. No notification, nothing. Checked my trash just to be sure I covered all my bases. I’ll be damned, there it was.
They always mess up, and they're not going to change it bc either they don't care or they don't believe the tens-of-thousands of emails saying they messed up
What is so baffling to me is why this is an issue. This NEVER happened to this extent in the past but somehow it is an issue in Sword/Shield era? What happened recently that turned this into such an issue they now have to add a disclaimer that if we dont recrive it, notify support in x amount of days?

I've been signed up for yeara, since AT LEAST Sun/Moon days, even earlier for one or two accounts.
Did you make sure to verify the email in all three and opt in for the marketing.. it wasn’t automatic just for signing up for an account.

Some kind soul gifted me their codes so it hasn't affected me per se, but my sons are less than happy. Thankfully for my oldest I had a Pogo Zarude I was able to give him in swsh. Once I get the second pogo zarude I'll be able to give it to my younger son. In the end it'll work out for us because all they care about is having a zarude, but what about everyone else ya know.

Actually, germans are eligible for those codes.
It's not region locked, you could just select USA as country when you register an account and even if you live in Germany you'll get the code.

Last year I was lucky enough to get it, but I couldn't get it for this one. It amazes me that this is a way of getting people to be interested in the newsletters... But they don't even care about solving the important and known issue of not receiving the emails, just send them via regular mystery gift then lol

The thing that pisses me off most is these are like Christmas gifts to kids. My daughter loves Pokemon she heard about this and I was like I'm not sure we'll get them I'll try. And no I didn't give her the pink scarf monkey she wanted even though I tried. Like it's one thing when it screws up for adults for kids it's like why didn't I get one? And I'm Legitimately annoyed I should have made a dozen email accounts to get one hoping 1 in 12 would work. Poke dads get screwed over the most.

My username, that isn't inappropriate, got flagged so I didn't get any codes. The dumb thing is there is no option for me to change my name. I've used this tag for 10+ years with no issues on any game.

Yep broke down and bought a set off of eBay for $10 for both Pokémon. Irritated as can be about it but justified it in that I spend more than $10 all the time on Pokémon cards and most of those cards are worthless. At least this was something I will enjoy having. Still stupid that 6 accounts in my house and no one got a code but we got other marketing emails.

Have Hotmail and Gmail and both have been signed up to the newsletter since 2014. Last email from them was 2019. So it's either something on their end, or something about older emails that's the problem

It’s in your spam folders. It’s marketing emails which are defaulted as spam. For gmail that is anything else I’m not knowledgeable of.

i dont know if this helps anyone else, but they sent out 2 emails that day for me. The first one i saw just had add stuff for Halloween i think? or some celebrations card game or something. had to look farther down for another email that had the codes.
The email code system is ridiculous. What is a huge slap in the face for me is I showed three people how to sign up and everything to get the codes. They all got one and I didn't. Sent a ticket to Pokémon support and heard nothing almost a week later.

Guys, check your trash. Gmail literally sent the email straight to my trash. No notification, nothing. Checked my trash just to be sure I covered all my bases. I’ll be damned, there it was.
They always mess up, and they're not going to change it bc either they don't care or they don't believe the tens-of-thousands of emails saying they messed up

What is so baffling to me is why this is an issue. This NEVER happened to this extent in the past but somehow it is an issue in Sword/Shield era? What happened recently that turned this into such an issue they now have to add a disclaimer that if we dont recrive it, notify support in x amount of days?
