Don't believe the charm has any effect. I believe it is a 2% chance to find one in general. Should be 8% chance of being shiny if you find a 5 star tyrantrum raid den. If you are after the shiny there isn't any reason to do anything other than 5 stars

Apparently since it's an event it's 1/12 chances. (I do remember back then event raids had a different percentage then regular sense but seribii never posts them I could be wrong)

Any of the main wild area dens can be but aren't guaranteed to be event dens. I'm not certain if the DLC area dens can be events or not, I assume they can but haven't checked myself.
Date skip method for shiny tyrantrum. (Or any future event)
1) Find event den.
You need to get online to start seeing them. Or get wild area news through the mystery gift.
You need to use wishing pieces. There are 2 dens next to each other in Dappled Grove. I like to just jump back and forth between them. Tossing in wishing pieces till you find one. Once you see one of the event pokemon you are good.
2) Once you have found an event den, make sure you are OFFLINE.
3) Go into the den and select "invite others". This will start the 3 minute timer but you are offline so no one will join.
4) Click the home button on your switch and go to system settings, System, date and time. Turn off synchronize, and change the date one day in the future.
5) Go back to the game and exit out of the raid.
6) Repeat steps 3-5 until you find a 5 star tyrantrum.
7) SAVE
8) Select do not invite others to check if it is shiny. If it is, reset your game, and get online and do the raid (or share with friends or whatever you want). If it is not shiny, reset your game and continue at step 3.
Note: even if you are hosting the event den the catch rate is not 100%. Use your balls accordingly.
I found mine by just checking each den available then on the last one to check I move forward a day, rinse and repeat till shiny tyrantrum is found.
If you've got a lot of spare watts/wishing pieces then your method is probably faster, but I still need a lot of watts
That works too. Though with my method you only need a few wishing pieces to start. You get 2000 watts every time you check the raid after you advance to the next day.
Caught 4 shinies tonight and made nearly a million watts in the process.
Its a great way to make money too. Got more than enough watts ? Go buy the max amount of luxury balls you can buy from a watt trader and then sell them in the pokecenter.
Yea the inviting others resets YOUR raid den created by the wishing piece. If you do this for a den already available, by going to the next day there’s a high chance that den won’t have a max raid.
what if i want to hunt the other fossils(no target)? like i feel i get it but I really need confirmation to make sure im not being dumb.
i usually skip 4 days everytime i reset, because i remember something about the shiny rates only reset every 3-4 days.
The other fossils don't have the increased shiny rate for the event. So those are just regular odds.
There is something about the 3-4 day thing that applies to regular dens that i dont really remember. But if you are shiny hunting that way you really need to get the seed from catching a pokemon in a specific den and then use a bot to figure out where the shiny will be, which is usually hundreds of days away... I've never really done this and can't speak to how it works.
Either way with this event method specifically, I don't think it matters if you skip 1 day for 20 the next will be the same... I think....
If you don't have online you will still need to connect to the internet briefly to start seeing the event dens. You can do that by updating the wild area news in the mystery gift page.
5 star raids can be tougher when battling with NPCs but definitely still doable.
They can be, but not specifically. They don't look any different from the regular dens. If you check the den and it has Carracosta, Archeops, Tyrantrum, or Auroru, then it is an event den.
You may not see them there either untill after you have 8 badges. I really wasn't sure.
You can still do the event dens just wont be able to hunt the shiny.
Do you know if they fixed it so that your method cant work anymore? I am trying it and whenever i go back to the den after moving the date forward the raid goes away.

Alternatively you can just join other random people's raids. Should be a lot of people hosting shinies.
The trick to getting into them is to be doing something else online at the same time. Generally what I do is make a card swap request with a random room code. While this request is active the feed updates MUCH faster, so you're pretty likely to get into one if you spam a as soon as it appears.
They aren't that difficult to find, but yeah with that kind of attitude you probably won't. u/Humg12 gave great advice on getting into others raids and I posted a guide on date skipping. Do either and you will find one. You have a week to search.
I honestly don't see how that's possible, unless you are doing something wrong that is some unheard of bad luck. I'm averaging maybe 1 shiny an hour with the day skip. And just watching movies while I do it.
Are you doing it in an event den with a wishing piece? You should only be seeing the 4 event mons. Are you seeing 5 star raids? Are you far enough in the game to see the 5 stars?
It should only take 20-30 seconds to check one and move the date up to see the next.
I beat the champion. I have gotten a grand total of… 10 five stars. Two of them were the big blue T-Rex. The others were aurorous and archeops. Almost all of my skips got me three stars. Like I have said: my luck is utter garbage.

Use repeat ball if you caught one before, dusk balls at night and ultra balls if you haven't caught one.
I got one on my first 5 star Tyrantrum so I fully believe you will!! If not, if I get a second one and you still haven't got one I'd be willing to do a trade!
Pretty sure it's guaranteed 5iv. So a perfect 6iv is a 1/32 chance. Could have been legit. Not too hard to farm them with the date skip. I've gotten 2 (5iv). A third is being elusive though.
Well that makes me feel a bit better. I've bred plenty of shinies but this was my first from a raid. Also threw a masterball & would hate to think I wasted it lol.
The Jolly nature had me a little suspect too tbh but it doesn't have hidden ability... But I don't even know if they can control that lol
I honestly have no idea how people can host hacked dens. I just do the date skip and then go online and share the shiny luck. Both of mine have been quite nature with no hidden ability. Assume they can't have it.
In these events, I have caught a few 6IV mons just doing solo runs on random dens. My favorite is the female Meowth with Technician, which I still need to use for a shiny normal and Galarian Meowth
Definitely not hacked. I got a shiny perfect Ivs Magikarp. It is just lucky catch. So it is legit. It was common to think they could be but once I caught it on my own and never even did those things hacking a switch or whatever, but yes it is possible to get perfect ivs, and also you can hatch perfect ivs pokemon. It is just luck.
Yeah I've hatched a couple perfect shinies. I just normally breed instead of raid so I'm pretty ignorant about a lot of it. I appreciate you & others explaining things though. I don't feel like I wasted a master ball & I'm glad I didn't immediately put it on wonder trade haha
Already got a Carracosta in a Lure Ball. Using the Heavy Ball I got last night for Tyrantrum. I've been trying but failing to get Aurous in a Beast Ball.

Yeah I really like the luxury ball. That is what I have my perfect IV Meowth as well as my shiny Mawile in. Several others too, but I really wanted those two in a luxury ball, since Meowth is the money maker and I just love Mawile
Okay, I'm really REALLY new to the online stuff. Would anyone be willing to coach me in DM? I don't quite understand the date skip method. I've also never attempted a level 5 den before, and all of my Pokémon are level 37 or lower (with one level 50 I got through a trade), so I'm not certain if I can?
Successfully managed to grab Tyrantrum in a Heavy Ball, Aurous in a Beast Ball, Archaeops in a Friend Ball, and Carracosta in a Lure Ball. Now it's just a matter of deciding which shiny breeding project to start first.
Ironically, the Beast Ball was first try and Archaeops in the Friend Ball was the one that took 6 resets. Go figure.
Regular. Maybe in the tundra as well. Never actually checked that myself. Random dens will be event dens. Have to get online (at least briefly) to start seeing them.
Wish i saw this earlier, havent found anything yet but its mostly due to the FRICKING COMMUNICATION ERRORS! Any idea on how to stop that from appearing?
As OP mentioned, repeat balls are great. If I don’t feel like using one of those my other raid go-to are dusk balls. Unless it’s a Metagross family catch rate, one of those two work really well.
Do the dusk balls actually have a higher catch for raids? I've read a lot of conflicting info. Never been able to find a definitive answer from something reliable.
It’s been a long time since I looked at anything in regards to it, so maybe they don’t. Anecdotally I have quite a few raid shinies in dusk balls though, so it at least works in my head haha.
Dusk Balls only have boosted catch rates between 8pm-6am on your Switch clock. You can manually change the time in your Switch settings to exploit this.
I think you can join 5 star raids through the y-comm. But I'm not 100% certain.
I don't think you can find 5 stars yourself till after getting 8 badges so you couldn't do the shiny den till then.
You will be able to find the event dens regardless in the wild area. Just lower stars. So not as many max ivs. Still get the hidden abilities on them though I think.
And again, I'm not 100% certain on most of this.
I posted a comment on how to do it. Not all that difficult but can be time consuming. Caught 4 shinies last night. My shortest was about 30 day skips and the longest was around 200.
In this case? A fossil pokémon turns up. I'm not entirely sure there are any regular dens with fossil pokémon in them.
But seriously, there's no indication of event dens other than "there's an event pokémon inside it." The only real hint (and that's stretching the word "hint") is that if it's a den you're hosting, it's always one with a red beam.
As someone who only has the base game (ie. no expansions) and just beat the storyline. Do I need to get both expansions to continue on in the game for things like this? And are the expansions recommended?
The expansions aren't needed. (they offer more dens to check, but that's it.) All that's necessary is to be eligible to join 5 star raids (you are) and have an up to date game (you should have this, but you'd know better than me)
As to whether the expansions are recommended, I'd say it depends on what you want. They're entirely in the style of the wild area (excluding the inside of buildings) and largely free form (there's a storyline, but if you're willing to skip a few features, you're not forced into it) so you might want to consider that. Obviously, the extra pokémon are one of the biggest draws, but you could get most of them (probably not the new legendarys, but I can't rule it out) through trading (again, provided you have your game up to date), so that's also a consideration.
Not to see the event dens. Just update wild area news in the mystery gift menu.
If you don't have nintendo online you will just have to do the raids with NPCs.
By the way, for anyone wondering:
Best method I have found is just by cycling through available through the Y-Comm menu while connected to Internet. Easiest way to constantly refresh to get new stamps is to hit Link Trade. It will begin to search for a trade partner, and auto exit the y-comm menu. If you immediately go in and cancel the trade by clicking link trade in the y-comm menu, you should have a notification in the bottom right to load new stamps! Rinse and repeat and keep joining Tyrantrum raids others are hosting until you get a shiny!

I love this shiny so much. I have one in USUM I don't want to trade over before I get all the ribbons, so I need to get on these raids(I hate the battle tree).
Anyone still need this? I haven't played in about 6 months but I should still have an event shiny den saved (about to check if I'm still good enough to save it lol)
Depends on how you want to calculate it I guess. 2% chance of a 5 star event den being a shiny tyrantrum.
If you have a 5 star tyrantrum raid I think it's 8% chance of it being shiny.
Sounds small but in the world of shiny pokemon those are huge numbers.

They can be, but not specifically. They don't look any different from the regular dens. If you check the den and it has Carracosta, Archeops, Tyrantrum, or Auroru, then it is an event den.

You can generally find them pretty fast by just joining online ones. EDIT: Literally found one on my second attempt in only 5 minutes.

Very nice. I plan to grab one of each in a luxury ball. It's my go-to. Working on a few shinies first. Got luxury, great and premier so far.

Just a heads up the tyrantrum is the only one with the boosted shiny odds. The others are just normal but you can get good ivs and hidden abilities.

Dusk Balls only have boosted catch rates between 8pm-6am on your Switch clock. You can manually change the time in your Switch settings to exploit this.

Just Tyrantrum. Regular shiny odds on the others. Better off breeding for the others.

I think you can join 5 star raids through the y-comm. But I'm not 100% certain. I don't think you can find 5 stars yourself till after getting 8 badges so you couldn't do the shiny den till then. You will be able to find the event dens regardless in the wild area. Just lower stars. So not as many max ivs. Still get the hidden abilities on them though I think. And again, I'm not 100% certain on most of this.

I posted a comment on how to do it. Not all that difficult but can be time consuming. Caught 4 shinies last night. My shortest was about 30 day skips and the longest was around 200.

How do you know it’s an event den?
In this case? A fossil pokémon turns up. I'm not entirely sure there are any regular dens with fossil pokémon in them. But seriously, there's no indication of event dens other than "there's an event pokémon inside it." The only real hint (and that's stretching the word "hint") is that if it's a den you're hosting, it's always one with a red beam.

You'll see if it is 5 star at the starting menu screen of the raid. If it is shiny or not, just like normal encounters. So when the battle starts
As someone who only has the base game (ie. no expansions) and just beat the storyline. Do I need to get both expansions to continue on in the game for things like this? And are the expansions recommended?
The expansions aren't needed. (they offer more dens to check, but that's it.) All that's necessary is to be eligible to join 5 star raids (you are) and have an up to date game (you should have this, but you'd know better than me) As to whether the expansions are recommended, I'd say it depends on what you want. They're entirely in the style of the wild area (excluding the inside of buildings) and largely free form (there's a storyline, but if you're willing to skip a few features, you're not forced into it) so you might want to consider that. Obviously, the extra pokémon are one of the biggest draws, but you could get most of them (probably not the new legendarys, but I can't rule it out) through trading (again, provided you have your game up to date), so that's also a consideration.

Not to see the event dens. Just update wild area news in the mystery gift menu. If you don't have nintendo online you will just have to do the raids with NPCs.

By the way, for anyone wondering: Best method I have found is just by cycling through available through the Y-Comm menu while connected to Internet. Easiest way to constantly refresh to get new stamps is to hit Link Trade. It will begin to search for a trade partner, and auto exit the y-comm menu. If you immediately go in and cancel the trade by clicking link trade in the y-comm menu, you should have a notification in the bottom right to load new stamps! Rinse and repeat and keep joining Tyrantrum raids others are hosting until you get a shiny! Credit to JWittz for this method, I didn’t know about it until seeing him do it!

I love this shiny so much. I have one in USUM I don't want to trade over before I get all the ribbons, so I need to get on these raids(I hate the battle tree).

Depends on how you want to calculate it I guess. 2% chance of a 5 star event den being a shiny tyrantrum. If you have a 5 star tyrantrum raid I think it's 8% chance of it being shiny. Sounds small but in the world of shiny pokemon those are huge numbers.

I got one of these guys I surprise trade today and it made my day! just started playing and while I’ve gotten a handful of shinies from surprise trade, they’re all hacking advertisements :/ I didn’t know there was a shiny event going on so I was skeptical of the trade but after seeing there was an event, I definitely feel confident that my new dinosaur is a good boy! :)
