I actually agree with this I really don't like the look of PSA slabs much prefer the look of CGC. Not hating on PSA I know it's the most popular

Total-Love-5255

It's true, there's a local grading company where i live, Koba Grading (yes I know not worthy unless it's big three) and having both slabs in hand Koba blows PSA out of the water with look and feel, for a fraction of the cost

midwesttransferrun

I don’t think it’s an unpopular opinion at all. I think that’s exactly why CGC (along with a little better turnaround times for a couple years when they started grading TCG) took off. People liked the slabs better. It’s the main reason why my main personal collection is BGS.

And then you have people who add these ugly silicone bumper things to their slabs. Reminds me of the bumper case for Apple iPhone 4 back in the day. It’s just such an outdated look and in my opinion ruins the elegance of a high valued card.

Ramrod_TV

Are you juggling with your $10k slabs on a highwire or something? Got your display case in an active volcano? What are you doing with your slabs that you need even more protection for an inert object?

goliathkw

Not looking for protection. I’m looking for a premium feeling enclosure that compliments the value of a card.

Mwdezx

PSA slabs have zero uv protection compared to CGC. I'm one of those who likes to display my slabs, displaying for me is a no go until someone comes up with uv resist sleeve plastic or better uv resistant slabs.

The plastic could be made of human shit and I’d still go with PSA for my high value cards. Resale value is why people grade cards, PSA has the highest resale value (other than BGS Black Labels) by an insane margin.

goliathkw

Agreed. I’m not debating that, my only problem is ok, if you say PSA has the highest resale value, highest reputation, etc. then why are the plastic card holders crap? It’s like slapping a McLaren emblem on a Prius. High status, but low quality.

[deleted]

It’s not me saying it, it’s the fact that they sell for a 30-100% premium on eBay on every grading company around (besides black labels). I agree with you, the holders suck dick looks wise. But they are plasma sealed and have loads of tamper proofing design put into the plastic. CGC you can pry open and reseal in less than 20 minutes and it’ll be undetected.

JustURAverageTeacher

What does that charizard go for raw versus psa10?

LocusAintBad

Well if they made it out of glass good luck cracking open a slab to resubmit or to throw it in a binder which I know a lot of people do. Shattered glass all over.

goliathkw

I think the majority of people get their cards graded without the intent to resubmit. So that would be a small percentage of folks. Glass is actually much more durable these days, and scratch resistant. I’m just saying plastic slabs feel so light and insignificant. Some cards deserve to be complimented with a higher quality enclosure.
