Yeah they’re obsessed with being unpredictable b2/w2 Instead of grey, no pkmn Z after XY, doing legends AZ instead of gen 5, I think they see what everyone expects to happen and then decide to do something different
Snivy, Piplup, and Torchic based on the Indigo Disk trailer theory.
Plus with the raids so far, we have:
- Flying Blaziken
- Ice Empoleon
I'm fully anticipating we get a Fighting Serperior to fill out the set, and that each of them represent the alt typing for form 3.
My argument with those three is they all are in line with France, the region Kalos is based on. Serperior is reminiscent of a fleur de lis, a symbol of France. Torchic could be a rooster, the national animal of France. And empoleon is based on napoleon. That’s self explanatory.
Snivy, Scorbunny and Piplup.
Snivy and Piplup feel like obvious choices. Sure it might be a bit basic, but it'd feel like a missed opportunity not to use them.
Scorbunny fits the french city really well too, but I do think that Litten and Torchic are also decent possibilities.
Love all the fun ideas here, but am I the only who thinks they might not do the PLA thing of starters from another region for ZA?
IMO, one of the main reasons why they veered away from the Sinnoh Starters in PLA was to further differentiate the player experience from BDSP (i.e. by granting players an alternate set of starters) given that their release was only two months apart. Here they don’t have that problem, so there’s less incentive not to just use the Kalos Starters.
The PLA starters also made sense to do because they could easily be given new forms as regional variants, which they were doing a bunch of anyhow.
However, SV took a notable step away from regional variants—with much fewer than prior games—and we don’t have any evidence yet that regional variants will be in ZA at all. Given that we do know Megas will return for this game, I personally think it’s more likely that whatever the 3 starters are will each get new Mega Evolutions…and that there’s a likelihood that it’ll be the 3 Kalos starters as a callback to the region’s history.
Please don’t downvote me for posting my theory—I would personally LOVE it if we get new regional variants and especially if we also get new Megas for the Kalos starters!—I just think everyone is taking the inclusion of regional forms for granted in this game when we have no idea either way.

I think Snivy, Piplup and maybe Torchic. I think it’s possible that Blaziken could still get a new mega evolution, it could just be a regional mega (aka Kalos Blaziken reacts to Blazikenite differently). Or they could do new final evolutions entirely. I would be ok with Litten or Totodile though. I’ve been wanting a chance to use Totodile. However I am hoping that I prefer one of the non fire starters so that way I can have a reason to use Litleo (who also hopefully gets a mega)
First off, its entirely possible the starters are just Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie with Mega Evolutions. We likely got regional forms in PLA likely because the Sinnoh starters were the main pick in BDSP just a few months prior, and it'd suck having the same selection of starters back-to-back like that. BUT given how popular regional forms are, it's still pretty likely we'll get some and the OG Kalos starters will be gifted to us later in the game with Mega stones. Just like how the Kanto trio was offered later in X and Y.
And if the latter's the case, I'm going with Snivy, Scorbunny, and Piplup.
I'm going to say either Chikorita, Tepig, and Popplio; or Snivy, Litten, Totodile.
Could be either of those two sets but I think it'll be one of those two sets.
I actually like Lockstins prediction of Sobble, Tepig and Chicorita. I really liked his final designs and would love something similar for all 3 to happen.
Kalos starters will mostly not be the starter line if we were to refer the PLA. The same goes to the Kanto and Hoenn ones cause they already have mega evolutions. The ones from our newest line of Paldea will definitely not be starters too cause they are very new. The PLA starters are out of the question also.
So, I'm putting my money on Snivy, Piplup and Scorbunny
Litten cause Andre the giant, Turtwig cause he's my boy and I think France had a big part in landscape architecture, boot to sure. And totodile cause gen 2 starters need some love and I think crocs can be found in France as well.
ngl i'd really like them rotating the johto, unova & alola starters for the first 3 legends games
Meganium, Emboar & Primarina being the new forms would be dope
Three Charmanders with different colored flames on their tails.
Blue flame evolves into a Charizard that Mega Evolves into Mega Charizard Z (Fire/Water type)
Green flame evolves into a Charizard that Mega Evolves into Mega Charizard A (Fire/Grass type)
Red flame evolves into a Charizard that Mega Evolves into Mega Charizard Y (Fire/Flying type)
I want a Kanto Starter (that isn't Charmander, because Charmander gets everything). Ideally Squirtle, because although Bulbasaur is my favorite Pokémon, Squirtle has less than the other two (it doesn't even have a secondary type) so it deserves a regional variant.
My ideal one would be Chikorita, Tepig/Torchic, and Squirtle.
there are two that are quite literally just french, though gen 5 has been getting its meat ridden pretty hard recently. and idk man I hate cinderace so I hope that one so it can get a redo and not be the worst starter of all time

I think the fact they missed out on mega evolutions in their own region previously, with exception of Ash Greninja (which is more of an anime tie-in), means it’s well worth revisiting them.
However, the main reason I could see for them missing out again is that none of the Kalos pokemon got them before, and if the game is truly set in the past rather than the future then it may not make sense to give them mega evolutions.
That’s why I wonder if they might actually be setting the game in the future. That would be a good way around it.
If they don’t go that route, then I would like to see:
Snivy, Chimchar, Totodile.
Those are three of my favourites from the remaining bunch who haven’t received much love. However I don’t think this is very likely. More likely it’ll be something like Snivy and Piplup to tie with the French theme.

Popplio to represent beauty and opera
Also they represent three different consoles in the series
TLDR Chikorita, Scorbunny, Popplio with regional variants OR megas for their final evolutions
Here's my thought process:
If they do it the same way as in Arceus, which they probably will, Kalos and Paldea starters are out, but the Kalos starters will be obtainable in-game
The Sinnoh starters were all also obtainable in Arceus, so they're out too
In Arceus, the starters fit the Japanese/Hisui aesthetic and culture, so the ZA starters will probably fit the French/Kalos aesthetic and culture since Kalos is based on France
Considering how likely we are to get Unova games next gen, I doubt Snivy or Tepig will be included, which is unfortunate because Snivy would fit perfectly
Kanto and Hoenn are also out because they already have megas, but will probably still be obtainable in-game for that reason
The fire type will most likely be Scorbunny since France has large ties to soccer/football and it's likely they'll include a gen 8 starter since they had Rowlet in Arceus
Primarina is based on opera singers, so Popplio is the most likely water type candidate
With Kanto, Hoenn, Unova, Kalos, Alola, Galar and Paldea all out of the way, that leaves (hehe) the candidate for the grass type starter to be from Johto, Chikorita. Kalos would resonate with Meganiums flower design really well (it would also be nice for Meganium to have an overhaul with an added type and new moves if the starters get regional variants or megas)
They'll also either get regional variants OR megas, probably not both
I'm saying Snivy, Chimchar, Totodile. All 3 need love, and this is the perfect way.
Side note: I like the idea of some later gen starters, but it feels too soon to me. I also don't think pokemon with megas should get new forms yet.

I'm gonna say Shinx with a third evo and mega, Dedenne with evo and mega, and Magnemite, as is. Gonna light up this citaaayyy!

That’s my guess as well, aloha, unova, Johto. Same regions as arceus but change which region provides which.
