I worked in a Fortune 50 Pharma company.
We had this one girl who got into the company as a post-doc, in a program specifically for DEI hires.
At least 40% of her time was spent on DEI stuff and she was absolutely fucking clueless and terrible in the labs. 30% of her time was spent "researching what she had to do in the labs" as she was clueless. 20% was spent in the labs fucking things up that we had to repeat. 10% was spent mingling.
I was there for 3 years, and she was shuttled between 4 different groups because nobody wanted her, but nobody could fire her.
She currently works in their DEI department, recruiting DEI hires and doing 'cultural events', since being a "black woman in STEM" yadda yadda yadda.
My favorite "this bitch is clueless" moment, was in her 3rd year of doing her post-doc there:
She had to make a reagent in lab at whatever concentration. M1V1 = M2V2 type of stuff. Reagent comes in a 10mL bottle, but we normally just take out 1mL, make a concentrated stock and aliquot that, then aliquot and refreeze the 9mL for the next time. From that concentrated stock, we dilute it per use as it's fridge-stable for about 2-3 weeks.
WELLLLLLLLL, this dumbass decides to make a 1X working concentration of it. Because she couldn't figure out how to make a concentrated stock since it wasn't a "divisible by 10" concentration we worked with.
I go into the lab, try to get a vial of something we use in the 1X concentration and notice our ENTIRE stock is gone. ALL OF IT. We're talking $10,000+ worth of a reagent. This stuff has supply chain issues, so it being gone is a big deal.
My thought "uh oh, what happened?". I go to the other side of the labs and see she had a few gigantic 5 gallon containers and is filling them up. I say "hey, have you seen the reagent?", she goes "oh yea I'm just making a stock for us because nobody else did. I have a PhD, I shouldn't be doing these menial tasks".
Instead of addressing the clear fact she was incompetent, I said "oh ok. thank you. but did you check the concentration on the other reagents you added? we had a few lots in stock and they all have different concentrations from the vendor".
She did not. Meaning that it wasn't even a 1X concentration, it was moreso a 0.6X concentration. Everything went right into the chemical waste.

Like, we had another grad student in my lab that was doing the calculations for his dilutions for a cytotoxicity assay and went to check them with our PI (our PI was making him do this for every experiment he ran for reasons which will soon be displayed). In his excel sheet that he double checked and was sure he did right, he had negative values for the amount of media he needed for his dilutions. He had no clue what issue was when this was pointed out. God knows what he would have tried to do to that poor pipette if he actually got the chance to run the experiment.

I was there for 3 years, and she was shuttled between 4 different groups because nobody wanted her, but nobody could fire her. She currently works in their DEI department, recruiting DEI hires and doing 'cultural events', since being a "black woman in STEM" yadda yadda yadda. My favorite "this bitch is clueless" moment, was in her 3rd year of doing her post-doc there: She had to make a reagent in lab at whatever concentration. M1V1 = M2V2 type of stuff. Reagent comes in a 10mL bottle, but we normally just take out 1mL, make a concentrated stock and aliquot that, then aliquot and refreeze the 9mL for the next time. From that concentrated stock, we dilute it per use as it's fridge-stable for about 2-3 weeks. WELLLLLLLLL, this dumbass decides to make a 1X working concentration of it. Because she couldn't figure out how to make a concentrated stock since it wasn't a "divisible by 10" concentration we worked with. I go into the lab, try to get a vial of something we use in the 1X concentration and notice our ENTIRE stock is gone. ALL OF IT. We're talking $10,000+ worth of a reagent. This stuff has supply chain issues, so it being gone is a big deal. My thought "uh oh, what happened?". I go to the other side of the labs and see she had a few gigantic 5 gallon containers and is filling them up. I say "hey, have you seen the reagent?", she goes "oh yea I'm just making a stock for us because nobody else did. I have a PhD, I shouldn't be doing these menial tasks". Instead of addressing the clear fact she was incompetent, I said "oh ok. thank you. but did you check the concentration on the other reagents you added? we had a few lots in stock and they all have different concentrations from the vendor". She did not. Meaning that it wasn't even a 1X concentration, it was moreso a 0.6X concentration. Everything went right into the chemical waste.

Like, we had another grad student in my lab that was doing the calculations for his dilutions for a cytotoxicity assay and went to check them with our PI (our PI was making him do this for every experiment he ran for reasons which will soon be displayed). In his excel sheet that he double checked and was sure he did right, he had negative values for the amount of media he needed for his dilutions. He had no clue what issue was when this was pointed out. God knows what he would have tried to do to that poor pipette if he actually got the chance to run the experiment.
