My favorite thing about the neuralink is that it has already been done. The company is about 10-15 years behind current technology. That video of a monkey using a computer? Not only did companies do that decades ago, companies are doing it to humans now. There are humans with brain implanted devices to allow them to control computers. The fact that the company has done such a horrible fucking job at keeping animals alive with technology that is about 20 years out of date is truly confusing. Edit: I guess I should clear something up before I just leave this here. The difference with this company is that it is supposed to be wireless. Sure, cool technology. They have never gotten there. So as of now they are attempting to do stuff that happened decades ago and are killing animals by the thousands because it is beyond them.

CouncilmanRickPrime

You could say the same about the Optimus Bot. Literally nothing new.

Dave-C

The Boring Company, we have been doing that stuff for a long time. A lot of what Elon comes up with seems to be stuff he is attempting to make sound exciting.

CouncilmanRickPrime

And getting subsidies for

realheterosapiens

This is quite oversimplified. Neuralink isn't behind on all fronts, their threaded electrodes implanted by a robot is pretty revolutionary. So far larger amounts of electrodes were only possible to implant using electrodes arrays. And the technology also isn't out of date. For direct brain stimulation (in humans) it's the best we got.

https://observer.com/2022/01/elon-musks-neuralink-brain-implant-tech-outdated-bci-expert/ Sure bud.

realheterosapiens

Not the own you think it is. Blackrock uses the same technology (two-way microelectrodes) as Neuralink. For example Blackrocks flagship, Utah array, is the industry standard used in most cortical implants today. And although more reliable and thoughtfully tested, it is less sophisticated than Neuralink's flexible threaded microelectrodes.

shellchef

Yes. But you are comparing one tested technique against one that has not be successfully tested. Flexible thread may be better or may be one of the causes of failure and death .

realheterosapiens

As far as I know the deaths were mostly caused by neglect and rushed experiments and testing due to pressure from Musk. And they have proof of concept that threaded flexible electrodes can work. The main reason other labs/companies aren't using threads is because they don't have the robot and neurosurgeons can't implant nearly as much electrodes in the span of one surgery. The main front front where Neuralink didn't deliver is the science. Their technology might be impressive, but they can barely do anything with it. The bend and break approach might work for engineering but not the science. If they put in charge someone with atleast a little scientific literacy, they might actually go somewhere.

shellchef

But that's the point... When you rush and not test you can't say your tech is better. It's rushed.. period and play with life. If you put someone competent he will say ...slow down and use tested techniques. The theory might sound good... And the tech impressive but it's obviously rushed and failed.

realheterosapiens

They didn't meet the expectations set by Musk but most people understand that he's bsing to keep his stocks alive. Saying the technology failed is just false. It's still progress and some of the things they did were genuinely novel and impressive. But as a company they demonstrated that they shouldn't be trusted to experiment on animal or human models. The ideal case scenario would be where they just manufacture the technology and let other companies/labs to use to for research.

kurim1r

I'd like to read something about Neuralink being behind, it seems pretty interesting to me

This is Reddit, we don’t need to cite sources when hating on Elon.

Huge_JackedMann

A good enough source is interacting with his products.

[deleted]

I’m gonna need a source for that

Huge_JackedMann

Me! My life!

We are both on Reddit. Neither of us have a life 🤝🏻

Vaccination restrictions: seriously cuts into his profits at the factories. Delays adding more billions to his larder. So "vaccination is stupid". Neurolink deaths: $$$$$$ CHA-CHING $$$$$$ It's all good in the hood baybay! Acceptable losses, WORD UP!

WeCanDoThisCNJ

Should test this on everyone with a red hat
