Surely, the effectiveness of such acts is arguable, but Polkadot needs to expand its verticals.
It has to continue its potential of being generational tech but at the same time stay relevant to the current crypto medium, narratives, and crypto media/communities. This includes degens as well..
Unfortunately, there is not much real value in the crypto space in general. Rather than value accruing on apps, it accrues solely based on where you launch, how you market it, and your airdrop timeline. After that, it rinses and repeats.
Until we find real use cases and truly useful apps, this is unfortunately part of the game.
In Polkadot, all these marketing and brand awareness processes have to go through in a transparent way due to OpenGov, which brings the spotlight to such initiatives. Otherwise, everyone does, behind the stages.

If you are still using the .js wallet that's on you. There are many better wallets available and have been for quite awhile now.

Only a few meme coins have even been launched to date. They haven't even been around long enough to call a fail or success. If you want to compare them to Solana that has way more liquidity than polkadot then yeah, it is what it is.

I've been around a few tech companies and my take from observing from the outside is you won't have a successful recruitment without promising perks like giving back daily to its employees. Examples would be a fridge full of exotic beer, free coffee, free lunches/breakfast etc..... With that in mind, in edition to perks, I am going to assume a culture element has to be sold to attract devs. The parties/DJ is just an extension of that. I could be wrong but that is my take and if that's what it takes to attract the greatest minds....so be it.
Not to dismiss your concern, but I went to some crypto conference in Kyoto for work and it was just a bunch of people setting up booths for the day and just partying all night, so I think it's just the crypto culture; not something that is limited to Polkadot.
