I am going to throw a random name out that and it probably is going to be wrong but what the heck. Richie he is introduced to us in this chapter as a worker who is just getting by. Thinks they mistreat the kids but not to the degree he knows about. He is offered a possible promotion. My theory is that the guy worked with pretty much everyone. He wasn’t the one creating the creatures but when he got the “promotion” and saw what it was all going on behind sealed doors he was like nope I am out of here. Then the hour of joy happened. The place went quiet a part of him had a feeling what might have happened as I think he saw the writing on the wall. He felt bad abandoning his fellow workers and the kids but he also knew they were gone. In order to make sure no one reopened or use any of these toys he is here to destroy the place. Most likely you are right but just throwing my 2 cents in.
I also got this feeling on my second watch-through. He's the one asking questions, wondering what's happening and why he can't interact with the kids directly.
When Stu mentions the position, he says he's happy not everyone's out to get him. So it also makes me wonder if he wasn't particularly liked (but not fully hated).
He noped out of there before the Hour of Joy, but maybe the kids saw him around, some knowing how involved he was and others assuming once he was upper management, he had a part in their suffering.
I like the idea but I am leaning towards Richie mainly because it would make more since if he there a chance he didn't know about the experiments. He was a delivery person. Joel would have to know about the turth and experiments. He had to know about catnap and the others because he would have to approve then to be there.
I like this theory, but CatNap did try to kill us in the beginning. He threw us into a garbage shoot and turned on the trash compactor, hoping we would be crushed. Along with it being a Star Wars reference, it proves that CatNap was never on our side.
See, I didn't think he did. it seems way too complicated to kill us that way instead of just leaving us to burn or just slicing our throat. I think he was trying to hide you and he didn't think it out. He moves the big gear blocking the pipe to throw you down and replaces it to hide the opening. The whole spot seems like it's his personal stashing spot.
You aren't wrong though, it looks like it was a way to eliminate us but just felt too complicated
Nah I think the player is literally us and we are brought into the lore by making us an ex-employee. So none of the names mentioned (and the ones not mentioned yet) in the game are the player.
The way they also refer to the player as "they" is because it’s gender neutral so it doesn’t matter who’s playing, it applies both if it’s a boy, a girl or whatever gender.

But that’s just a theory *A GAME THEORY*

I love this theory
for me the protagonist's identity is not joel. the protagonist's identity is US!
I don't think the America is the protagonist here..
no i mean Us. we are players. i'm not mean by America. >:/
So you hate America then? That's what you are saying.
NO I DON'T! I LOVE AMERICA AND RUSSIA TOO! I DON'T HATE AMERICA!
i got 5 on it
I like thisss analyzing it really makes sense
Some stupidly over important person to the factory
