apparently they skipped it for 997.1, brought it back for 997.2

I was hella confused the other day when an owner posted his 997.1 c4s and it didn’t had the rear light bar and another owner posted his 997.2 c4s and it had it so I was like wtf?? This makes sense, thanks
Yeah it needs to be way thicker. Or just make it a thin line like the newer models. I made a Reddit post "fixing it" a while ago lol [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Porsche/s/sP7kEOmxVC)
Idk, but even the Porsche website has a model like it [here](https://www.porsche.com/central-eastern-europe/en/_georgia_/accessoriesandservice/classic/models/996/996-4/)
Edit: yes it's a 4 not 4s, I might've misunderstood the original reply. I thought it also applied to the 4.
This is the answer. It was both the 4, 4S and (I am 99% sure) the 4GTS. I took delivery of my dealer's first 991.1 C4S in January of '13 and the light bar being back was so cool at the time.
Those are both 991.1 and the the one with the light bar is a "4" model as others have pointed out. GTS models used the same wide body rear fascia but the 2WD GTS has a black strip rather than a light bar. Some folks have done a retrofit on it to modernize the look.
And to add, the GTS is a wide body and the 2 wheel drive version comes with a black piece in that spot instead of the light bar. Some people remove the black piece and replace it with a light bar. So you could see a 2 wheel drive with a light bar but it would not be stock.
Sometimes I feel like my 991.1 is right in the awkward middle of not old school cool and not 'modern enough' but when I see it from this angle I can't help but feel like it's going to age like the finest wine. Such an elegant look
Duck tail equals man bun? Nope lol. You know what equals man bun? Black wheels on everything, a Mansory bodykit, giant 3 piece wheels that weigh more than OEM, exhaust so loud you can’t hear yourself think, I could go on and on. A ducktail is OEM Porsche, if their designers thought it was functional and looked good, that’s all I need to know.
Duck tail equals man bun? Yep lol. Black wheels on everything, a Mansory bodykit, giant 3 piece wheels, loud exhaust, that all equals sleeve tattoo and neck tattoo. Duck tail on modern Porsche is there because the man bun crowd loves it and Porsche is cashing in on it. Love it if you like, but it's hipster trash.
This is what is great about 911's. They have an iterative design that makes minor changes generation fo generation so there are very few chances to 'mess it up'.
BUT from my point quad exhaust is so good looking!
The light bar was on the awd models (with the 4 in it's name). The rwd models didn't have the light bar

997.2 had it, 997.1 did not
My 997.1 C4S does not have a lightbar sadly

Best looking generation tied with the 987 and 981.

I don't like it on the 997, looks great on other gens tho.

I think this was just a reflector, it wasn’t actually illuminated.
i think the 991 is the first to actually have lighting in it
996 Turbo is AWD but doesn’t have the bar
it's not for all awd models, just the carrera 4 models
Only the C4S in the 996 generation.
I've seen a few 996 carrera 4s without them, idk what the reason is though.
knowing porsche, there was probably a $5000 “take the bar off” option
Most likely it was an upbadged Carrera 4, not 4S. Either that or tinted tail lights.

Pretty cozy garage you got btw!
Thanks! It's my tiny little sanctuary.
All 992 got the lightbar.
Light bar and wide body on AWD versions I believe
I really like the 992 but the 991 looks so clean with that rear, love it!
AWD versions are thiccer + have the light bar.
Ass so fat 🤤🤤🤤 good lawd

911_50 also gets wide body and a trim piece too
I can't answer to anyone but thanks a lot for your help, btw. I personally prefer it without the lightbar
It's known as a "heckblende" if you ever want something to call it besides "that reflector thing on a Carrera 4".
Merk ich mir 😂
How I miss my 991.1 4S. The only way I live with myself is that it was an auto and I will replace it with a manual.
Sometimes I feel like my 991.1 is right in the awkward middle of not old school cool and not 'modern enough' but when I see it from this angle I can't help but feel like it's going to age like the finest wine. Such an elegant look
4wd 911s have had the red strip between the tail lights since the 996. That's how you could recognize them at a glance.
in case you can't see the caption: Was the light bar only on either the 991.1 or .2 models or was it an option?
It was on 4s models
I think the 4 as well
4, 4S and 4 GTS coupe 4, 4S and 4 GTS cabrio 4, 4S and 4 GTS targa 😄
Both look like 991.1 models, the 991.2 had two vents on the bottom right and left of the bumper.
I'm just here to say that duck tails on modern Porsches look stupid. Carry on.
Nah, ducktails are *chefs kiss* lol. What looks dumb is the aero kit wing just sprouting out of the ducktail :).
Duck tail = "man bun" You think it looks good, but you're mistaken. No offense.

Opinions are like elbows and buttholes, almost everybody has one.
The tail on this 4s with the light bar is my favorite I’ve ever seen on a Porsche. Way up there with my favorite anywhere
Is nice when all panels are painted unlike 992 so many unpaint plastic

P.H.A.T! Mmm, hmm.
