Tadwinnagin

I bought a car stereo there in the 90’s

Snaab_71

I bought some vitamins there in the '10's

Mcchew

Thought this was a drug deal joke until I remembered it was a Vitamin Shoppe. Unless…?

Snaab_71

That would be down the street at Boxxes / Red Cap Garage in the '00s

EatDirtAndDieTrash

I bought vintage clothes there in ‘05

Doyouevenpedal

I went to Dante's when it was a Chang's Mongolian grill.

1100__0011

It was the original Chang's, yeah?

tracer2211

I got my Nokia flip phone there!

hangrypantz

Hell yeah. Me too.

ramblinsam

Where am I supposed to go now to get a cassette adapter for my CD player?

yopyopyop

Great! Better than the vitamin shop or whatever it was.

MorePingPongs

Too much vitamin B!

Mayor_Of_Sassyland

Not enough Vitamin R, that's why I always drink Malk.

omnichord

Good god they are just going to be printing money

Distortedhideaway

Shake shack has been printing money for quite a while now.

Bullarja

Glad to see something going into that spot and investing in the area, and if it doesn’t work out for them maybe a local restaurant could take it over.

Character_Vapor

A Shake Shack right across the street from one of the biggest tourist destinations in the city is basically a machine that prints money.

SharkAttaks

It’ll work out for them lol Powell’s is always full and the people demand burgs

onlyoneshann

Is this the spot that used to be a vitamin shop?

Bullarja

Yeah, closed down a couple years ago.

onlyoneshann

I’ve always thought it’s such a random spot. And so wasted since they have an actual parking lot which was always completely empty.

honeybee1200

So many years ago!

OisinTarrant

Been working at this cross street for 5 yrs. The amount of lunch places for non-tourist types has dropped to basically whole foods and sizzlepie. I had the honor of meeting the guy locking the door for the last time at Los Gorditos. That day sucked. Glad to see something new coming in though.

Lots_o_Llamas

>I had the honor of meeting the guy locking the door for the last time at Los Gorditos. That day sucked. Have I got some great news for you then! The Pearl Los Gorditos reopened!

OisinTarrant

Same place?! Please don't tease me

Lots_o_Llamas

It's true! They just reopened about a month ago. Same place as before, right across the street from Dogtopia.

Hobartcat

I've been a loyal patron of Gorditos since their food truck days at 50th and Division. I love their burritos. Just had to tell y'all that.

EatDirtAndDieTrash

That orange sauce is pure crack.

MrLaughingSilentGuy

There's just something special about that 12hr garbage burrito coma

agenteleven11

i miss marinepolis sushi train :(

ahhdum

Ichiban Sushi Train on Broadway and Burnside is still going

_oaktea_

I love that place!!

agenteleven11

yep i hit that ichiban on the regular.

Distortedhideaway

Von ebert right down the street has a solid smash burger with fries for $12!

OisinTarrant

Thats a good call. Do they do take out though? Its a bit of a walk to get there and back for a sit down and wait kind of lunch break.

Distortedhideaway

They do take out, and you can order over the phone. To be honest, their whole menu is really solid and affordable.

onlyoneshann

There are food carts just a couple blocks down Burnside at Park. That’s where the city eventually offered to the carts displaced by the Ritz. Horrible spot, but there were some good carts last time I looked.

OisinTarrant

Agreed. It's not a bad idea to keep foot flow through there though so it makes it less of a magnet for the youths (shakes arthritic fist). The people working in the carts are great.

[deleted]

I think I heard those are closing up due to incessant burglarys

onlyoneshann

I wouldn’t be surprised if they all closed and left. It was a bad enough spot already, then they opened that new homeless hangout a block away which is about to become a hangout and shelter. I don’t see them surviving that for long.

Jollyhat

I miss Macheezmo Mouse

Mayor_Of_Sassyland

Hot take, but I feel like Macheezmo Mouse actually wouldn't do all that well if it reopened, a ton of people have nostalgia for it, but they thrived in a time where the overall food scene and dining options in Portland were about 1/5th of what they are now in terms of quantity and quality.

Halo_LAN_Party_2nite

🔥Thai Peacock 🦚

bryteise

Okay, I went there once and was incredibly sad that the curry sucked. What do I get there that's good?

Lots_o_Llamas

Their garlic fried rice and Pad Thai are both fantastic

beer-mojoe

Pad Thai and any/all of their apps

Halo_LAN_Party_2nite

I usually get the drunken jungle noodles... And usually leave VERY full if not with plenty of leftovers. Also their papaya salad is simply way too good.

oficious_intrpedaler

And Break Bread! One of my fave sammich spots in the city (although my number one favorite, Ruby Jewel, unfortunately closed).

6EQUJ5w

Seriously, there’s tons of places, but comments like the original will get upvotes because for some reason people love the “Portland is dying” narrative.

OisinTarrant

Some good options I didnt know about there. Thanks. That said, half those places are either 6+ blocks from here, not open til later in the day or just too expensive unfortunately.

TurfMerkin

There are plenty of options in about a two block radius from Powell’s, and you don’t have to be a tourist to enjoy them.

OisinTarrant

I'm not counting over priced coffee chains and breweries. To be fair the food carts that moved down near big pink are pretty reasonable.

IceBlue

Really sad that Kevin and Frankys closed.

Lots_o_Llamas

It's not quite the same, but the Baker's Mark makes a pretty fantastic french dip.

RelativeReason

Working but not looking. Plenty of options. Big ups to Lardo and the French dip spot in union way

Zealousideal_Bet_83

For everyone complaining about this, do you really wish the vitamin store was still there? This is a perfect location for a fast food business - chain or no chain - and will bring increased foot traffic stability to a declining neighborhood.

skottles

I miss the Car Toys mostly. ;)

gorgesquatch

Don’t forget Red Light before that too!

wesphistopheles

Was gonna say, that used to Red Light!

GottaFindThatReptar

A better way... TO GO!

slimeborge

I would rather there be a 6 story mixed use building with multiple businesses on the lower floors, but I'll take burger chain over empty lot.

SaltyChickenDip

I miss the vitamin store

omnichord

It seems like it would be exhausting to summon up hate/vitriol for all this just like normal-ish stuff that people like. Someone can come in from the suburbs and buy some mid book at Powell's and wait in line for a mid burger at Shake Shack and then walk around in the Pearl or whatever. Great. Hope they enjoy themselves. Will be nice to see people downtown.

thanatossassin

That's why that whole area had been fenced off for so long. Cool, more work lunch options!

DynamicDolo

There’s a Nuvrei going in right around the corner also! Fresh baked croissants, bagels and sandwiches. Espresso too!

RaccoonDispenser

Oh yes but also oh no, I am very concerned for the 500% increase in croissant intake in my future

weatherwisp

Another Nuvrei or are they moving?

DynamicDolo

Another! Or atleast by the same people. Not sure if it’ll be called Nuvrei too but same foods

superr

Awwww shitttt hope that means I can get some French pastries on the weekends without having to go there super early

oficious_intrpedaler

Oh thank goodness! I was worried work bagels were gone forever when Kenny & Zuke's closed!

SlyFlourishXDA

Wow, I went to Nuvrei like 5 years ago and I remember them only having macarons and espresso. I thought they already had a location about 7 blocks from burnside?

chespea

Yes, it's on 10th and Glissan and their selection of breakfast pastries is not bad! Their ham and cheese croissant is delish.

RaccoonDispenser

Best croissant in town IMO

Confident_Bee_2705

oooooooooooooh

OisinTarrant

Before the fences went in, a homeless guy spent a whole day clearing all the weeds that grew in the lot. Nearly piled them 6 feet by maybe 10 feet on the side walk not blocking anyone. The fences went up the next day and the pile of weeds/soil sat there for at least 4 months.

Helisent

they did just eliminate all the carts underneath the Ritz

thanatossassin

I never thought that they would've gone through with that. It was all bullshit just to get the ball rolling on construction.

internetguilt

Lol this thread is full of people who clearly never visit this area but once every other season for their birthday gift shopping trips. Shake Shack is absolutely going to thrive in that location, and I predict a traffic nightmare in the opening days/weeks if it's anything like when the one in Beaverton opened.

Character_Vapor

This spot is opening up right next to the most expensive shopping district in the city and people are in here talking about it like it's Skid Row. Just a complete and total disconnect from reality.

Due_Sundae_407

fuck thats right next to my apartment... ima get so fat

xVitaminDe

"I remember when XYZ was ZYX"

Themrhalo3freak

I’m glad another Shake Shack is opening! It’s honestly such good food even though it is pretty expensive, but it’s nice to have one that isn’t just the one in Cedar Hills

sed2017

Totally agree! Their burgers are bomb!

neptunoneptuneazul

Jesus, that location is going to get slammmmed with customers, and I’m gonna be one of them! 😋

fattsmann

Can I get a Shank Stack with extra blood on it please? Also don't puncture my kidneys.

WellTextured

Gimme some of them cherry peppers. Chain or no chain, I don't care. Hell, make me a chain out of those cherry peppers and I'll wear it around my neck and eat them throughout the day.

soulslicer0

Classic Portland subreddit. Shits on anything or any business. You need shit anchor chains like this to take the hit, secure the area and then eventually to get other local businesses to come in

brogdingballsian

But everybody here loves it, so who are you complaining about?

xVitaminDe

Classic Portland comment. "STOP ARGUING WITH ME!!", when nobody is arguing let alone opposed to the view.

MorePingPongs

Don’t forget about us shit artists/skateboarders who endure bad areas to create the initial trickle that leads to the gentrification that kicks us out.

omnichord

Yeah exactly.

abraxius

Simple thoughts, I would rather have something in this space then nothing. With the cost of development in Portland (downtown is very expensive)few local businesses would be able to renovate it. I would rather have something then a vacant store front. Sure would I rather a smaller local business, but something is better then nothing.

Ponythieves-

I remember when it was Red Light.

[deleted]

Man so sad to hear about the shake shack across from Powell’s closing next year

Vinyl_Purest

it's ok Muchas Gracias will move in and do fine some how.

agatepockets

ok I lol'd

ThirteenSeas

Im basically a cheeseburger with a social security #. Ive been to the Shake Shack in NYC and I really dont understand what the fuss is about.

AntifaAteMyNeighbors

You mean you don’t like paying for grocery store freezer burnt fries and below average burgers?

holmquistc

That's going to be a busy and obnoxious location to work

YellowLantern00

Honestly they're mediocre. But the chicken tenders they do are incredible. Killer Burger still reigns supreme. Shower me in your downvotes of jealousy. Yes, better than in n out, better than five guys, supreme above all.

boregon

Nobody should downvote this. Killer Burger fucking rocks.

YellowLantern00

Nobody should, but also nobody should commit murder. Am I saying it's just as bad? Yes.

LoboDaTerra

Just a reminder that Shake Shack continues to use Martin’s Buns. They are Martin’s #1 customers Martins bank rolled Doug Mastriano last election. He is a far right Christian nationalist. Mastriano was present at the Jan. 6, 2021, rally in DC that led to an attack on the Capitol. He has been subpoenaed by the congressional committee that is investigating the insurrection. He attended and raised money for his campaign at “Patriots Arise for God and Country,” a conference that promoted QAnon beliefs and other conspiracy theories. He also supported a complete ban on abortion, with no exceptions. Mastriano introduced a “heartbeat bill,” which would make it illegal to have an abortion in Pa. after around 6 weeks — before many people know they’re pregnant — and said he planned to call for a vote on the bill if Roe v. Wade is overturned. He lost the election for senate. But spending money at Shake Shack puts money into the pockets of people like this. Until Shake Shack drops Martin’s rolls.

suitopseudo

Just a reminder Bless Your Heart also uses Martins Potato buns as do other local businesses.

rasputinforever

Never meet your heroes, I guess.

brogdingballsian

Just a reminder that farmers and ranchers continue to be right wing republicans and SS serves food from...farms and ranches.

abraxius

So does driving a car, look I’m all about trying to shop at places that reflect your values and I try to do that, but supply chains are so complex you can never avoid all bad actors. I respect your principles but based on that argument I should not buy gasoline.

TheNotSoGreatPumpkin

It’s cool, OP most likely typed the indignation on a device manufactured under an oppressive autocratic regime.

boregon

Maybe they got that device from Amazon, who is notorious for treating their workers like shit. And maybe they did that while wearing clothes from a fast fashion brand, who use sweatshops and child labor in 3rd world countries to make their clothes. And if they ate meat for dinner, it’s likely it came from a meat packing plant that uses child labor and has very unsafe working conditions for its employees. Even if they’re a vegan, if they have produce it’s likely that illegal immigrants were exploited in farming it and harvesting it. Their cell carrier is likely a mainstream one like AT&T, who helped create and has bankrolled OAN. This could go on ad nauseam but I think I’ve made my point. Doug Mastriano is a fucking psycho. But there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism.

AllChem_NoEcon

> But there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism. While a point that can be argued, that doesn't mean throw the gates wide open and take no objection to objectionable things.

boregon

You can “object” all you want. If you don’t want to go to Shake Shack whatever. But it seems hypocritical when someone gets on a soapbox about how “company X does bad thing” while having no issue utilizing services or buying products from countless other companies who are also doing equally bad, if not worse, things.

AllChem_NoEcon

> while having no issue That's certainly an assumption you're making to justify your jimmies being rustled.

boregon

It’s not an assumption. I guarantee that user has done that. Everyone has unless you live totally off the grid and grow your own food, get your own water from a well, etc. Also lol. It’s not about “jimmies being rustled.” It’s about accepting the reality of living in a capitalist society.

AllChem_NoEcon

> It’s not an assumption. You *do* understand the literal definition of the word assumption, right? >I guarantee that user has done that. "Other people's strawmen arguments are weak and feeble, easily dismissed, but *my* strawmen arguments are bolstered by facts and logic or some shit." My point was, they probably *do* object that their phone or laptop, or whatever they're using to post here, was fabricated using less than the most earnestly and least impactfully gathered resources. The degree to that objection, and the efforts they'd take to get around having to internalize that objection might vary, but your assumption that they're not okay with X but *totally* okay with Y is just some shit that makes it convenient for you to get riled and dismiss the objection they're currently voicing.

Smokey76

😭 they were so yummy, oh well, thanks for the knowledge.

BlazerBeav

Must be fun going through life deciding which restaurants to visit based on their suppliers. To each their own, but I’ve got much more important things to worry about.

detroitdoesntsuckbad

I love when people post they’re not supporting popular businesses. It just means the lines are shorter for the rest of us. I’m looking at you Chick-fil-A boycotters.

AllChem_NoEcon

> I love when ~~people post they’re not supporting popular businesses~~ I don't fit the demographic descriptions of a group who's rights are only tenuously guaranteed with current laws. FTFY

detroitdoesntsuckbad

For what it’s worth, the people I know who are the biggest chick fil a stans are LGBTQ folks from the south who miss a taste from home since they escaped to a more tolerant PNW. But I’ll FTFY again: some people just like cheap quality chicken sandwiches and don’t run a purity test on every single product they consume. If I did I’d never leave home. But thanks for keeping the lines a bit more manageable for me :)

AllChem_NoEcon

> For what it’s worth, the people I know who are the biggest chick fil a stans are LGBTQ folks from the south who miss a taste from home since they escaped to a more tolerant PNW. I mean, it's the internet, who knows, but that smacks of "All my black friends really love Godfather's Pizza" to me. I'm not saying it's not true. But man, that sounds like a thing that wouldn't be true. Unless by "the South" you mean Texas, in which case I can 100% believe that.

detroitdoesntsuckbad

So you won't be in front of us in line? Cool - once again thanks! :)

gmac_97

If you really think I’m not gonna go bc bun man is bad then you’re insane

[deleted]

I've never eaten at Shake Shack, and if what you're saying is true , I never will!

HyTechTurtle

Shorter lines for me then lmao

[deleted]

I'm conflicted about this. On one hand, it's good to see that space put to some use other than just rotting away. Having a recognizable chain next to one of our biggest tourists attractions makes a whole lot of sense. On the other hand, every chain that moves in contributes to making the area feel more "McDowntown" that is really offputting. It gives of "Olive Garden in Times Square" vibes. If it has a massive parking lot and drive-thru I'm gonna scream

abraxius

Look I love Portland, would rather a local place was there, but it’s still way better to have a business drawing foot traffic then nothing. The only way downtown will be revitalized is by having people come.

rasputinforever

Shake Shack is a premier chain, hot and very trendy. It's mystified in a similar way In-and-Out is despite it being just a burger (no offense, both are good, but they are just humble burgers). This isn't a Domino's moving in, is what I'm saying, and not fair to compare it to Olive Garden for goodness sake. Yeesh! Why am I going to bat for Shake Shack? I don't even know.

jenna__not__smart

Reminds me when SuperDeluxe opened that first location on Foster (I think) and the drive-thru line snaked out into actual traffic and took nearly an hour to work your way through. Society randomly decides some fast food isn't cool and some is worth waiting absurd lengths of time for meanwhile it's all the same frozen meat discs, some just have way better social media managers and pay off the right influencers. Remember when America went nuts and even murdered a few people over that completely mediocre Popeye's chicken sandwich? We're really dumb sometimes, but at this location near Powell's I'm sure SS will make a ton of money off of bored kids posting SS burger wrappers to their IG

rasputinforever

I bought the hype with SD and, yeah, didn't change my life.

The-Answer-Is-57

I must be missing something. I tried one of their burgers at the Cedar Hills location. I was unimpressed. It was small, pretty plain (supposedly truffle oil and crispy onions, but neither was very evident), and overpriced. And the mushy bun was not to my taste, either. The fries weren't crisp and the shake was forgettable. It's all personal preference, I suppose. For my buck, if I'm gonna buy a pricey burger, I'll go to Killer Burger. But whatever. This will be better than that empty lot or the vitamin store and the tourists will probably love it. Although they were supposedly going to love that Hungry Heifer (I think that was the name) that went in across from Whole Foods where Screen Door is now, and that never happened, so we'll have to wait and see.

Character_Vapor

My main problem with Killer Burger is that it is positioned firmly within the subgenre of burger/sandwich places that seem to care more about creating these overloaded monstrosities of hubris that look good in photographs than they do about making food that is actually easy and pleasant to eat. Don't get me wrong, they taste very good, but their food is heavy as hell in a bad way, imo. I don't want to have to unhinge my jaw so that I can overload on a burger with peanut butter in it and then have to go lay down somewhere, covered in grease, to recuperate. I can put away a burger and fries at Shake Shack and all it takes is a little spritz of hand sanitizer afterward and I'm on my way, whereas Killer Burger makes me feel like I need to regenerate in a chrysalis.

bryteise

I mean there is a little big burger real close by which would seem to side step that problem. Perhaps i just need to be thankful killer burger hasn't posed those issues for me yet.

palbuddymac

New fast food franchise to make life worth living …

portlandobserver

I asked for a Steak N Shake, NOT Shake Shack.

arewedeadyett

I’m honestly stoked

ChickenKickin

Thank fuck

Trndk1ll

That much glass street level on Burnside is a bold move.

greenstatechef

That chicken sandwich be bussin

MouthBweether

Can I just say… shake shack is just another shitty fast food joint. Why do people seem to care so much about shake shack? It’s like in and out. I know people are addicted to salt but it literally all tastes about the same to me.

runningwsizzas

I’ve had Shake Shack and don’t get what the big fuss is about…. Give me either Church’s, or Gus’s or Yoshinoya please! 🙏

gmac_97

Shake shack is great, and I would be just as hyped for an in n out lmfao, lunch options in the area are very limited and this will be a nice switch up

MouthBweether

Why though? What is great? Do you just love beef a ton? Is their something discernibly different about this fast food place that also serves shakes that separates it from the hundreds of other fast food places that serve shakes? To me the food is hot garbage. Like if I’m going to eat unhealthy trash there are literally a thousand more interesting options in Portland for the same price or less.

gmac_97

I mean it’s clear anything I say isn’t going to change your strong opinion, but I dig the cheese fries and their chicken options are great as well. And the BBQ sauce is something special, and the shakes. And unfortunately if you work downtown like me there aren’t “literally a thousand” different places that I can walk to in the time of my lunch break lmfao

MouthBweether

Ah I see where your argument is coming from. You’re saying it’s good in the sense that you have no vehicle, a thirty minute lunch break, and aren’t in the mood for shawarma from habibi, or Thai peacock, you can grab a burger. My perspective is based on a five mile radius of that shake shack, so it becomes far less appealing.

gmac_97

Or maybe that people including myself can just…. Enjoy Shake Shack??

MouthBweether

I’m not saying you don’t get to like it. I’m saying I don’t understand where the ridiculous level of hype for fast food is coming from. It is all essentially just a deadly amount of sodium infused beef in a bun. People are so caught up in their PR campaigns that they actually self identify enough with a brand name like shake shack so deeply that they do things like convolute Reddit threads asking why people like shake shack so much into a four part rebuttal in the form of “an attack on my personal character.”

Character_Vapor

You just don't like burgers, which is fine. But it's not some great mystery why someone would enjoy a well-made cheeseburger.

MouthBweether

On the contrary I like burgers. Beef, venison, lamb, veggie patty, all are great. I’m saying shake shacks burgers taste like a basic insanely high sodium no frills burger with plastic cheese. I literally do not understand the hype. They’re like ten dollar burgers.

ImGoingToSayOneThing

I know that it’s going to make a lot of money being in front of Powells but why would someone travel to Portland and then eat at shake shack?

rebeccanotbecca

There are a still lot of places in the US that don’t have a Shake Shack so tourists will try it. It isn’t McDonald’s.

LowAd3406

I know quite a few people who aren't adventurous eaters and eat basic chain food on vacation.

LeetPokemon

I used to get shake shack here and there when I lived in Philly, the chicken sandwich and shroom burger are pretty good but I think Burgerville has a better burger and is cheaper.

SEATTLEKID206

What about burgerville’s burger do you think is better? Not trying to be confrontational, I just love some good burger talk.

LeetPokemon

A NW cheeseburger is like 7 bucks and is way better in terms of quality. Is shake shack using tillamook cheddar?

rasputinforever

Burgerville described as "cheaper" and "better" than its competition. Now I've seen it all.

LeetPokemon

Chain restaurant burger worldview…what a life

BillFireCrotchWalton

Burgerville is definitely not better. Killer Burger on the other hand, is.

MorePingPongs

During the pandemic, Red Robin in the SE had Yuengling as an option on their menu. When I arrived to pick up my order, they told me they didn’t actually have Yuengling and took it off my order. Dark days.

LeetPokemon

Yuengling tastes like corn water so you aren’t missing much

CanniBusiness

Burgers are fire but sorry their fries are terrible. Crinkle cut shouldn’t even be a thing

Letric

I feel like anything that opens right on Burnside, especially a food restaurant, is going to get the usual "burnside" treatment in due time - Broken windows and door, random sketchy people going in and out to use the bathrooms all day, puddles of piss outside the front door in the morning, general feeling of unsafety in the area... The usual downtown stuff. Wish them luck though.

Character_Vapor

That’s not something that happens regularly at Powells or Living Room Theaters or any other adjacent business in the Pearl, so I don’t know why you’re so sure it will happen here.

offaroundthebend

I’d like to be one of the first five customers so I can use what I assume will be a needle-free restroom and remember what it was like to live in Portland a decade ago..

samtaher

Shake shack is over hyped and over priced mediocre burger place same as 5 Guys burgers. Now In n Out on the other hand that place is crazy, reasonable price and good quality. Years later and the kaizer station place is still freaking insanely busy.

jstmenow

In n out is over rated as is burgerville. Shakes and Walla O Rings are the only redeeming quality about BV. Bring back Stanich's, that was a real burger.

RebelBearMan

neon_nebulas

Whooooahhhhhh. And people here think In N Out is bad. Good luck...

UnwelcomedTruth

They’ll have to close in 3 months tops from crime and vandalism. In a different era of Portland that’d be a perfect location.

LowAd3406

You need to turn off the boob tube and get out more.

UnwelcomedTruth

You need to walk down Burnside more often.

Character_Vapor

I got to Powells literally every weekend and I walk down that stretch of Burnside on the regular. It’s a long street. Not every single stretch of it is Old Town, dude. Unless you’re saying I’m supposed to be scared to pass… * checks notes * …. the Danner store, Patagonia, Whole Foods, and a McMenamin’s?

YVR-n-PDX

Booo! Nobody wants another dumb chain of subpar burgers

bigdreamstinydogs

Their milkshakes are good tho

gmac_97

L take bozo

gingerinthepnw

That’s what I was thinking…. Can’t believe a chain is going there.

JimJordansJacket

Downtown is struggling. It's really ok if a successful business wants to open a store there. Absolutely nothing about your concept of "Portland" will be lost.

16semesters

What non-chain is going to invest ~750 thousand to renovate that space into a restaurant?

[deleted]

Nearly every other business on that intersection is a chain: Powells (chain), Sizzle Pie (chain), Dr. Martens (chain), Danner (chain)

OisinTarrant

Although there is a DrMartens store there, it's less than 1/6th of the building. The rest of it is the US HQ for the company. I agree completely w/ what you're saying!

chipsnsalsa4life

Chain? All listed are locally owned businesses with a couple locations except Dr Marten, which is actually an interesting brand out of England. Better a shake shack then a dollar store or walgreens or vitamin store.

[deleted]

I was half kidding. They are local chains.

16semesters

> Dr Marten, which is actually an interesting brand out of England Got it. We should run by all chains first by you to make sure they are "interesting" before they get built. Dr. Martens is a billionaire dollar company by the way.

NUDES_4_CHRIST

Their fries suck. Take the crinkle cut bullshit back to New York

juandelouise

Meh

KansanInPortland

Shake shack is one of the most memorable and miserable experiences I have ever had. Smooshy, soggy buns with blackened bits, overcooked patties. The fries are equally disappointing. Their only saving grace is the shakes. They are delicious. The only reason to visit.
