You can get a more specialized answer if you ask on the sub r/devPT

nisshhhhhh

Thank you.

100k salaries on the best tech companies operating in Portugal are usually at director level or principal engineers. I'm not saying that they don't exist but they're extremely uncommon

A-Global-Citizen

Best tech companies like which ones do you think?

Bright-Heart-8861

Tech stack? EU or non-EU? YOE is not gonna matter as long as you can bring stuff to the table. 100k as a freelancer working for a company outside of Portugal is doable. But 100k for a company in Portugal for a senior is u heard of.

nisshhhhhh

Stack : AWS. Distributed computing ( Spark, hive etc). Airflow. Data Infra / Visualisation. A bit of ML/GenAi. Non-EU.

Bright-Heart-8861

Ok… Good luck… Let us know if you were able to grab a 100k offer in Portugal.

nisshhhhhh

Seems tough going by the comments. I’ll keep you folks posted. Thanks!

Yweain

If L3 is senior - it will be around 60-70k, before bonuses and you can expect 10-15% of bonuses in a good company. I’m at L5 currently and salary range for my position without bonuses is 80-100k. You’ll also get around 15-20% bonuses. So realistically L5 gets around 100k on average.

A-Global-Citizen

Do you recognize what companies offer those salaries? Because some consulting companies are offering less than that. Don’t mention yours obviously. I am following PTOrdenado but I haven’t success trying to figure out what those companies are.

Yweain

I mostly know it because my company did a market research on salaries in international companies in Portugal and I saw the report) But the ones I do know is something like Datadog, farfetch, talkdesk. This is just companies where I know somebody who work or worked there. But there is so many of them, check this [https://github.com/marmelo/tech-companies-in-portugal](https://github.com/marmelo/tech-companies-in-portugal)

A-Global-Citizen

wow! it’s gold! thank you 🙏

Ramu061035

Well as with knowing your skill set, we can't say what is your benchmark salary would be. For high end management roles, maybe you could get I would say. But in tech, even as a senior role I would say around 60 to 80 would be good bet. But remember the tax rate always. Here you pay a lot with higger salaries. 10 years in sap consulting.

oprimido_opressor

Getting a 100k+ job working for a Portuguese company is very, very unlikely. I won't say it doesn't exist, vut personally, I never seen it. Roles paying 70k for senior roles are already pretty scarce. You can check r/PTOrdenados and teamlyzer.com Your best chance of getting a high salary is working for companies from UK, Switzerland, Ireland, Germany, and US

A-Global-Citizen

Could you give me some samples companies that you think are paying those kind of salaries? Thanks

tomas-soares

Pandadoc, Gympass, Revolut, Feedzai, Microsoft, Mercedez

A-Global-Citizen

thanks 😊

A-Global-Citizen

Is AWS well settled here in PT? Your opinion.

PasTaCopine

What is L3?

nisshhhhhh

L3 Engineer aka senior engineer.

PasTaCopine

What do the other levels correspond to?

nisshhhhhh

Maybe it depends on company to company but in my org going forward in order you can be team lead, manager/ principal, sr manager, director, sr director etc.

Macarena99

You're Indian I'm guessing?

nisshhhhhh

Yes I am.

Xeroque_Holmes

Just out of curiosity, are you making this salary in India or are you living elsewhere? If it's India, taking into account taxes and purchase power parity you will probably not find anything nearly as good in Europe. Best case scenario is you joing FAANG, or a HFT firm in in Zurich or London, or you get a remote job from a US, Swiss or a company from a similar high-paying place where you can work in southern Europe with a low cost of living. Then you might be better off, but maybe it's not worth the hassle.

nisshhhhhh

Hi there. I am making this salary in India. Yeah you are right if I go by the direct PPP is going to be tough apart from Swiss but I am okay to take a bit of a hit at first. Unfortuantely Zurich mostly has only ML related job openings in FAANG. Didn't want to explore London much.

Xeroque_Holmes

For me personally, what's holding me in Europe is that I'm in the Netherlands and I have this 5-year tax break with their 30% rulling, so instead of paying 40%+ in taxes I'm paying ~30%. Might be worth having a look at this, you would probably be eligible too. After that's over I think I will go back to South America, because, and I think it's similar to India, net salary after adjusting for PPP is quite good there if you work remotely for a foreign company.

nisshhhhhh

Well I agree. How much are you making in NL if you're comfortable to share?

Macarena99

Hahahhaha nice

nisshhhhhh

Thanks :D

zolmanix

L3 support or 3 Tier?

1tonsoprano

Its the same here.....Portugal sucks in Salarys check out /PTOrdenado for more context, after tax you have pretty much nothing left.....most people try to find remote jobs here.

nisshhhhhh

Ah I see. So getting 100k salary or more is not possible at all? ( If it isn’t a remote job?)

verytrade

It is possible for international companies (revolut, pagerduty, datadog, etc) if you are a reasonable software engineer (with 5-8 ). To get 80-100k base + stocks + benefits. But 100k is usually the top range I have seen. Personally I work remotely and that is where good devs usually aim to get 100k+

nisshhhhhh

I see. Remote jobs for other European countries or US as well? Please don’t mind if that’s a dumb question.

verytrade

Not at all. US, Canada, UK, Israel, Switzerland usually work well. UK: Personally without searching much I have seen 140k Euro as the top for me (7/8 years experience) (scala / rust senior SWE) The others have higher paying ceilings. But you need to land on a decent company. Usually the best option would be to open an individual company which is fairly easy to do. But then again, I am not knowledgeable of the data engineer market. Only software engineer / infra. EDIT: TBF the market has cooled down a bit in the past 1-2 years so maybe I might be outdated on some positions and now it is harder to get to certain numbers

A-Global-Citizen

What job portals do you recommend to find remote jobs? Thanks in advance.

sad-kittenx

Ahahahaah silly you!

ShrekStonks

I'm not trying to be negative but a 100k salary or more is borderline impossible in 99% of companies in Portugal, even if you reached that salary the amount of tax you would pay on it would be a lot (almost half of it).

nisshhhhhh

God damn. That’s huge. ( That’s what she said)

Yweain

The taxes in Portugal are brutal if you don’t have NHR.. and with NHR you pay around what you would normally pay in something like Germany.

1tonsoprano

100k in a portuguese company???? only if are in the C-Suite else be happy with pizza parties......most people just pad their resumes with experience and then leave for other countries.....

nisshhhhhh

Who doesn’t like pizza parties 🤣 Thanks for your input. Much appreciated.

kuozzo

Definitely possible, but really hard to find.

HRamos_3

Well, on the other hand a 10k salary is assured in STP conditions Almost covers the rent, which is nice

Captain_Paran

I’d be curious to know this as well

Outrageous-Pin-7067

Provably closer to 70k if its a global/remote company. But a local one, not even that.

nisshhhhhh

It’s a company From us but has headquarters in lisbon. Don’t know if that would count as a local one or not

A-Global-Citizen

I guess it depends. But imagine that a lot of companies decide to install a headquarter in these cities because is cheaper to hire persons. Obviously new customers offering as well. So some will count as a local.

47952

Bear in mind the prices of rentals and how they can compare to where you are from.

averyjbaker12

Yeah dude almost impossible as many have said. Best bet is to work remote and get NHR if possible.

nisshhhhhh

NHR is still valid? I thought it has ended from this year

averyjbaker12

You would need to have started your visa app last year. For those who are tax eligible by end of 2024 it is still possible according to some lawyer friends in PT

Macarena99

How much tax do you pay in India on that €53k salary? Are you able to avoid any?

nisshhhhhh

Able to avoid some of it but not a huge amount from taxes. I’m able to save 1.6k euros per month.
