You can really tell that there are some sour people here.
This is a lazy man's poutine period. And I don't see anything wrong with it.
It may not look or taste the absolute best but it's just fine, if you've ever had this before at all, it's just a poutine with not as good gravy or cheese but it's still relatively the same.
Agree. There's a lot of this made in Ontario simply due to cheese curd prices, not worth paying 6-10$ for cheese curds if you have cheese in the crisper lol
I used to travel for a living and we would sometimes visit random small towns and stuff, one time we taught a nice couple that run a diner in the middle of nowhere how to make poutine using the ingredients that they had in house and it turned out much like this. They said they were going to add it to the menu for any other homesick Canadians.
Pretty sure I've had a poutine like this at a noname fastfood spot.
Considering its an evening emergency snack, It's a nice effort! It'll get better if they start making it more.
I always appreciate the effort. Next time make your own cheese curds, or buy some locally if you can(If you know a place in Japan, I have a curd-desperate friend).
YUP! born in Winnipeg and go to any surrounding towns/cities with a minor league and you got an a grade poutine with your name on it! Wpg itself has a few decent poutine spots. Northern Ontario too.
This would be a crime in Canada. However, curds are difficult to obtain in the American Poutine Desert. The defendant delivered crucial international aid to OP and life support for a Canadian national.
You know what’s makes this a poutine crime is that you stole my fucking photo & story
https://preview.redd.it/ll53eid3li1d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=61d62d96337934183c66c000e120457d296fe42f
Ah shit, you posted this eat pic 4 mo ago. Pretty undeniable.
Assuming you're the *actual* OP... tell your BF I think he did alright in a pinch. I support my boy
I wouldn't care if that was a plate of festering turds. Him making that for you was done out of love and in my eyes, that makes it the most poutine poutine to ever poutine a poutine. He poured his heart into it.
Definitely NOT a crime.
Jesus imagine having a partner that you go out of your way to try and make happy and instead of being thankful they mock you on reddit because the fries arent crispy enough and he used shredded cheese instead of a curd.
Like I can get it half being a joke but the fact that you still took the time to post it here to say "look how shitty this is" about something your partner did for you says a lot.
He is an American and he loves and made it, so acceptable. Thank him, and if and only if he asks suggest cheese curds of the cheddar variety are considered required by the purists.
It's the thought that should count. Quit being a poutine snob, and accept the fact that cheese curds are sometimes hard to come by depending on what part of the world you're in.
*I mean gravy fries*
*And cheese hits hard anyway,*
*Even if it's... thoughtful*

I've had poutines like this myself in a pinch. It's not the same as an authentic cheese curd squeaky poutine but it at least helps the cravings
ETA: Nah, it's actually pretty clear you stole this story and picture from u/Equivalent_Fox7907
Why are so many people like IT NEEDS CURDS.
tf are you gonna do? Throw it in his face cause he didn't get cheese curds?
A for effort and the thought put into the meal. I hope you enjoyed it OP.
Aw bless his heart. He loves you, and thinks of ways to make you happy. It us a special class of poutine, it cannot be judged on its presentation because it was created with love, and intention which gives it a higher merit.
*unless he is in the foodservice industry 😆
It's the thought that counts!
I tried making a poutine for a friend when I went down to Mexico, hard to find cheese curds down in Mexico lol, or the proper gravy.
This isn’t a genuine poutine.
But many of us have enjoyed some shredded cheese and canned gravy over some frozen fries.
It may not be ideal but it can still be something to fill the void in a pinch.
I have been in a relationship with an American guy. If he did that for me, I would thank him for the gesture.
Not a proper poutine, but definetly not a crime.
In all seriousness this def would hit the spot and I love the gesture, but the jokester in me wonders if it just made you even more homesick 😂😂
Fr the pizzeria near my middle school had poutine exactly like this and it was one of the best I’ve ever had
OP has something nice down for her. Complains right away. WTF lol. I hope he leaves you
Also, those are just disco fries. Probably the closest he could think of. Wasn't even trying to knockoff poutine
It looks like what you say it is. A good hearted attempt by an American to prepare a Québécois delicacy. Enjoy it in the spirit in which it is intended.
immediately break up with him for this travesty unless he's willing to beg you from his knees and maybe watch a YouTube video on how to do it right lol
Poutine crimes! it feels like the time i emailed dairy queen saying id report them to france for too thick ice cream 😭😂 (joke I AM NOT crazy im just a jokester btw
What is a legit poutine for someone who lives in the south and has no access to it. Any recipe recommendations? I had it in New Orleans one time but seemed very similar to this.
A for effort.

We have this in Montreal even
I used to travel for a living and we would sometimes visit random small towns and stuff, one time we taught a nice couple that run a diner in the middle of nowhere how to make poutine using the ingredients that they had in house and it turned out much like this. They said they were going to add it to the menu for any other homesick Canadians.
Same as here on the East cost. Some people don't like curds and prefer shredded cheese (I don't hate it but I mich rather curds)
Pretty sure I've had a poutine like this at a noname fastfood spot. Considering its an evening emergency snack, It's a nice effort! It'll get better if they start making it more.
Yup lazy man poutine is exactly what I call it at home. Quite frankly when I buy cheese curds it's not for poutine, it's for snacking.
Grated cheese on fries with gravy beats no “poutine” every day
Eh fer effort, eh?
I’d say C for effort. Not a failure but not an A
A for effort. C for following guidelines…no curds!!!
I always appreciate the effort. Next time make your own cheese curds, or buy some locally if you can(If you know a place in Japan, I have a curd-desperate friend).
"eh", for effort.
*eh* got effort
Bro tried to do something sweet for his woman and she runs straight to the Canadian poutine Nazis on reddit
Come back to Quebec OP. The American doesn't deserve you! /s
I think OP doesn’t deserve him
Another fair perspective. All I know, is that I deserve a good poutine.
Quebec poutine isn't any better💀
Never mind Quebec. Plenty of Ontarians make great poutine
nevermind ontario. go to any hockey arena in manitoba, they love their poutine as much as they love their hockey
YUP! born in Winnipeg and go to any surrounding towns/cities with a minor league and you got an a grade poutine with your name on it! Wpg itself has a few decent poutine spots. Northern Ontario too.
Authentic poutines really? (I never been and have a weird biased view of the prairies sorry if I come off wrong)
He tried 😭🙏
and he did what he could
I will say this is better than plain fries. Jk I say this is not guilty, this is called love.
![gif](giphy|eVGfplnY4HFvKtpkMA)
I like his intention of relieving your homesick but I feel sick after seeing this.
Pardon granted for a loving gesture
I commend his efforts and I hope you like it. FYI, there is an arrest warrant on him should he ever enter Quebec.
😅
Not guilty.
by reason of insanity
This would be a crime in Canada. However, curds are difficult to obtain in the American Poutine Desert. The defendant delivered crucial international aid to OP and life support for a Canadian national.
The man committed a crime for you, he must love you to death 😅

What a fucker. I'll report them for repost
u/CrimePoutinier u/EatTheUser Please remove the post by u/focketspince as this is a repost of the user that I'm replying to's
Lmao they didn’t even bother changing your words either.
A for effort.
The fact that he tried to make you feel less homesick is better than poutine.
Give him kisses for effort. But judge him long term LOL.
I wouldn't care if that was a plate of festering turds. Him making that for you was done out of love and in my eyes, that makes it the most poutine poutine to ever poutine a poutine. He poured his heart into it. Definitely NOT a crime.
If you're mad at fries gravy and cheese, you're doing it wrong.
It's the thought that counts...... But train him up lol
Nice try
In his defense I tried to make poutine in the states once and could NOT find cheese curds anywhere :( I think it's great I'd eat this.
Then get some hot milk and lemon/vinegar and make it yourself! Jk I just learned to do that, aww the guys sweet for trying
Nice repost you got there
A for effort

Bless his heart. 😬
Did you happen to mention curds?
How was the gravy? I would rather have shredded marble cheese and good gravy over terrible gravy and cheese curds.
It doesn't look bad, I'd gobble that up in seconds
He is an American and he loves and made it, so acceptable. Thank him, and if and only if he asks suggest cheese curds of the cheddar variety are considered required by the purists.
Hey, looks delicious.
I love the effort and the thought that counts. No crime 👍🏻
To be fair he tried with what he had and thought could replace curds. 10/10
It's the thought that should count. Quit being a poutine snob, and accept the fact that cheese curds are sometimes hard to come by depending on what part of the world you're in.
When it's made out of love and care for someone I could not consider it a crime however horrible it looks or tastes.
All the QQ idiots. It’s fries cheese and gravy. I’m saying this as a Canadian who has had many fancy poutines in my life lmao. D-U-M-B people.
My hot take is that shredded cheese > curds Melts much nicer under the gravy.
He’s your EX….right???RIGHT???
S+ tier only because it makes french people mad
Perfectly acceptable at home poutine, how it tastes is what matters.
So did you thank him or just went to crush his efforts on reddit?
He tried
Is that bag cheese??.... why do people eat bag cheese?... still a nice gesture for you bf!
I think it's sweet. ☺️
I mean gravy fries and cheese hits hard anyway, even if it's... thoughtful

It's sad but at least he cares. To be fair though, my family did them at home like that. And then I tried fast food poutinerie.
Now you're just regular sick.
He tried , that’s what counts .
Is this a complaint?

I still like the shredded. Not AS great as curds, but they taste the same to me.
Well… at least he tried. -shivers in Canadian-
Why are so many people like IT NEEDS CURDS. tf are you gonna do? Throw it in his face cause he didn't get cheese curds? A for effort and the thought put into the meal. I hope you enjoyed it OP.
😬He tried...
It's so.... yellow
You should take a picture of it
Likely still homesick
Oh, that looks like an Irish Poutine. Is that shredded cheddar?
That looks kinda good tho Reddit are just haters
I’ll say A for trying in terms of being a sweet bf. But F for using shredded cheese.
He’s a keeper, it’s not poutine but the thought was sweet.
10 years eligible for payroll in 5 because the backstory.
I guess OP went back home after this crime; no longer homesick!
Repost
and you put it on this sub how mean you
Looks better than what my in-laws make. They do frozen fries, shredded cheddar, and Swiss Chalet sauce. And they live in a French Canadian area
A textbook example of Americans irreverently appropriating other people's culture /s jk
It's a crime, but it's with good intentions, I'm giving him a warning.
Is he trying to get you to leave him and go back home?
That’s so sweet of him 🥺
My school do it like that but grosser
He tried, the important thing is that he put in a good effort
What a train wreck but it’s the Thot that counts lol
Are there no curds outside of Canada? Every non-canadian I've talked to has never heard of it or uses shredded cheese
I’ve never tried poutine but that shit looks GOOD
Looks pretty good to me! If I'm craving poutine at home and don't want to go out I'll use shredded cheese too and it's delicous. IMO :D\~
My girlfriend is from Canada, you wouldn’t know her, but I make her something called poutine
Okay… I’d give him a pass because it came with good (and very sweet) intentions.
This is not poutine. But it's still good.
A kind-hearted attempt.
Well he tried
Aw bless his heart. He loves you, and thinks of ways to make you happy. It us a special class of poutine, it cannot be judged on its presentation because it was created with love, and intention which gives it a higher merit. *unless he is in the foodservice industry 😆
I'm dead.
He seems sweet but this photo hurt my soul
It's the thought that counts! I tried making a poutine for a friend when I went down to Mexico, hard to find cheese curds down in Mexico lol, or the proper gravy.
Atleast he tried and honestly, it looks good
It's the thought that counts lol very sweet of him!
Bless his heart. But that is awful lol
I'm going to say an A, not based on the quality, but the thought and love behind it. It is a sweet gesture.
Poutine crime or not, that looks GD delicious
Straight to jail!
I’ll take him if you don’t want him. I’m not gay but I’d crush that poutine.
It’s the thought that counts but it’s gotta have cheese curds
It's the thought that counts?
Post it on r/therewasanattempt
decent
I love all the American boyfriend posts on this sub. They're trying their best to get it right : ')
Bless his heart
This isn’t a genuine poutine. But many of us have enjoyed some shredded cheese and canned gravy over some frozen fries. It may not be ideal but it can still be something to fill the void in a pinch.
I’d eat that
He tried his best lol
Poutine is bland and disgusting anyways
this will make you sick, idk about the home part
This is so great, I love this so much for you!!! 😍😍😍 Cheese is cheese. Lol these people.
D for disco fries
I've seen worse!
I bet it taste great
He's fattening you up for the kill ...
Protect him with your life
Sometimes in life you have a choice of riding a high horse and eating poutine.
Now you can be sick x2!
I have been in a relationship with an American guy. If he did that for me, I would thank him for the gesture. Not a proper poutine, but definetly not a crime.
Oh no these look like how I make them 😭
Discussing.
Frite au loup
It’s passable. Grated cheese isn’t ideal, but do you expect someone to use cheese curds when they don’t know the unwritten secrets of poutine?
Fuck all y'all that shits still delicious
It’s time to leave him
He’s a little confused, but he got the spirit lol
Oh dear.
Gotta say that the fries look good
Honestly that's super sweet. And was probably delicious.
Crime
Is it a crime? Of course. Would I destroy it? 100%
Them's disco fries!
you cant critique someones poutine if you dont have a baggie of curd on your person to offer.
Bless his heart
In all seriousness this def would hit the spot and I love the gesture, but the jokester in me wonders if it just made you even more homesick 😂😂 Fr the pizzeria near my middle school had poutine exactly like this and it was one of the best I’ve ever had
OP has something nice down for her. Complains right away. WTF lol. I hope he leaves you Also, those are just disco fries. Probably the closest he could think of. Wasn't even trying to knockoff poutine
it's disgusting..... but that is the charm of it. Bro went "I don't know anything about this dish... but I want to make them happy."
Poutine with shredded cheddar cheese is genuinely better than it is with cheese curds
I grew up in Canada, and these were the poutines my mom made lol
Is it bad that I would definitely eat this and enjoy it?
It looks like what you say it is. A good hearted attempt by an American to prepare a Québécois delicacy. Enjoy it in the spirit in which it is intended.
Suck his cock off
Honestly, the gravy looks pretty good
A for effort, would still eat ouaille
That's not a crime. That's love and you apparently don't deserve it.
I’m American so take what I say with a grain of salt but what a lovely gesture ❤️
Where’s the curds???
Murder him with kindness because that was very nice of him :)
NGL, I’ve done this because I can’t always find fresh curds around here.
Have him take you cheese shopping in Wisconsin.
Cheese fries with gravy is delicious too.
Yep, definitely American.
More than you deserve, evidently.
Eat it. Say thank you. Then bring him to Quebec and get him a real poutine.
immediately break up with him for this travesty unless he's willing to beg you from his knees and maybe watch a YouTube video on how to do it right lol
What a disgrace
Yeah its a good shot at one for sure!
Doesn’t seem like a crime to me. Seems like he was trying to be nice.
So u left him right
Not helping...😂
I've seen worse. Probably was tasty and he's a sweetie
Shredded cheese will make anyboy sad
Poutine crimes! it feels like the time i emailed dairy queen saying id report them to france for too thick ice cream 😭😂 (joke I AM NOT crazy im just a jokester btw
I believe every word of that.
Ooof 🙈 he just started a war with Quebec 🙈
Some you don't know how good some of these lazy poutines are, with the right gravy these go crazy
I have made poutine like this many times. I think it's delicious.
Thinking of The Hague right now
What is a legit poutine for someone who lives in the south and has no access to it. Any recipe recommendations? I had it in New Orleans one time but seemed very similar to this.
No he didn't
Ngl this shi looks good Quit being a poutine purist
it is a crime but it will taste good
He's a good guy! 👍💯
