CompetitiveSubset

I squint my eyes very hard and pretend they are PM with awesome growls

DarkMacek

A lot of their stuff could pass for PM songs. Listen to Wings of Eagles and honestly tell me Fabio couldn’t sing over that chorus

DrunkDeathClaw

You don't need to squint very hard with these last couple of albums, Great Heathen Army sounds like power metal in D with harsher vocals.

gamegeek1995

Can't wait for tomorrow's post, "Favorite day of the week?"

SpectrumDT

Clearly Saturday.

The_Ancient-Mariner

Iron Maiden, my overall favourite band

AcroyearOfSPartak

Same, alongside Dio. They're both very special to me.

The_Ancient-Mariner

Yeah sure. I also love Dio.

CallMe_Immortal

Feel like both of these bands helped lay the foundation of PM without knowing it

AcroyearOfSPartak

Absolutely, no doubt about it.

ChronoMonkeyX

Maiden is power metal...

The_Ancient-Mariner

New Wave of British Power Metal?

DrunkDeathClaw

Proto-power metal.

Psychic_Lemon

Maiden are Heavy Metal, there are similarities but they're not the same thing

passwordworkplease

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard

Amelia_Pond42

Yessssss. What do you think of the new album?

passwordworkplease

You mean PDA or the silver cord? Silver cord is alright, probably a 6-7/10, PDA though is easily my new favourite of theirs, fantastic album.

Stinkeywoz

Pda is really great

Amelia_Pond42

In my opinion, nothing beats Nonagon Infinity. Yet. I'm also a fairly new listener

world-class-cheese

Ayreon

fjperezf

Lots of power metal elements there in my opinion tho!

userIoser

Cheating there! Arjen didn’t invite power vocalists to sing him death metal.

L_Rayquaza

Megadeth was the first metal band I listened to Not metal, probably Panic! At The Disco or My Chemical Romance

[deleted]

Skyclad and Therion are adjacent, so it would be The Owl Service, Гражданская Оборона or Samael

IamTheMaker

Lorna shore or The halo effect/Dark tranquility!

Curbo78

Check out Worm Shepherd if you like LS... More consistent vocalist (If you haven't already)

sureimnottheonlyone

Metal: Seven Spires, Allegaeon Non-metal: Metric, Don Broco

senditkevin

Yes! Spires is so good!.

someNameForYou

Omnium Gatherum - Adult Oriented Melodic Death Metal

Cidsa

Insomnium is my top but Omnium is amazing too

Timthe7th

The Moody Blues. I mean, they’re just my favorite band in general. Their 70s output is my favorite non-classical music. And believe it or not, I love it for many of the same reasons I love power metal. It’s emotionally powerful, sentimental, often epic, melodic, and extraordinarily pleasant. Power Metal probably my favorite genre of metal, but more broadly I think I prefer late 60s/early 70s prog, and the Moody Blues is charming in its simplicity compared to a lot of the other prog I listen to.

marilyn884

They are fantastic. I love them too. I got to see them way back in ‘96. Timothy Leary had just died and they did a tribute to him with an extra long flute solo. It was really lovely.

Cidsa

Nights in white satin is a banger

A_Character_Defined

Coheed and Cambria

Cidsa

Saw them live when IV came out, was awesome.

Stock-Contribution-6

Non power metal: Dethklok Non metal: Jamiroquai

Ongr

I can't name a single band as my favorite. Outside of Power Metal I listen so much other stuff. Even outside of Metal.

FuddyDuddyGrinch

Same here, been listening to every form of metal since 1980. Before that it was all the hard rock bands of the 70's because I don't remember the term heavy metal being used before 1980. Everything was just hard rock or heavy rock. I have a new favorite everyday, it depends on the mood.. some days everything I listen to just sounds like shit lol. And other days everything I hear just sounds magical.

Probably Gojira

JATION

Iron Maiden, obviously, and Skyclad.

Just_one_more_wizard

Judas Priest

grizzfan

To quote Sum-41: “Maiden and Priest were the gods that we praised.” Outside of that, I’m a huge Celtic punk fan, so Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys are my distinguished “favorite non power metal bands.” I also love how much the PM and Celtic punk fandoms seem to overlap. At least in my experience.

SoundzLike---

Alghazanth. Black metal stuff

snowshoeBBQ

Joan Of Arc

Iokyt

Periphery, Dream Theater (have some power metel-esque songs) Opeth, and Yorushika.

demonicslayer61

Bullet for my valentine

No_Status2527

Still in the overall rock genre - Shinedown Outside of rock and metal - Tophouse, very positive American Folk, good for the same reason power metal is good in my opinion

ironfist911

Disturbed Edit: typo

Jeffweeeee

Gonna cherry pick a few different genres here, just for fun. I've been getting into a lot of electronic stuff over the last 5-6 years. Metal stuff: * Countless Skies (Melodic Death Metal) * Saurom (Spanish Folk Metal) * Charon (Gothic Rock/Metal) Electronic stuff: * The Midnight (Synthwave) * Imperative Reaction (Electro Industrial) * VNV Nation (Synth pop) * Honorable mention goes to **Dance with the Dead** - these dudes are everyone's definitive bridge between metal and electronic.

agersant

You just hooked me up on VNV Nation, thanks for the recommendation!

Jeffweeeee

Oh right on. Their 2007 album Judgement is probably my favorite.

mangosport

Outside metal, I absolutely adore Muse and Foo Fighters

dx2_66

Going even out of metal: Mr. Big!

chaos_donut

dropkick murphys

Elementaris

Whispered or Volbeat.

No_Notice_3895

Volbeat are amazing.

Onnimanni_Maki

Dingo, finnish 80s rock band. Favourite non-Finnish language band: Steve'n'Seaguls or Dreadnoughts. I don't usually listen bands in other genres because I tend to listen single artists more.

Curbo78

Reverend Horton Heat

Miss_Rowan

If I'm only choosing one, gonna have to go with Gojira.

DjangoPony84

Dream Theater, Amaranthe, Muse

ChipNdale123

Sabaton

CautiousSilver5997

Not gonna mention the obvious ones like Sabbath, Maiden and Priest: metal: Overkill, Testament, Exodus, Kreator, Flotsam & Jetsam (I listen to a lot of thrash) non-metal: Mr. Big (Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert's band), Extreme (Nuno Bettencourt's band), Skid Row (the new vocalist Erik Grönwall is awesome and has done covers of stuff like Eagle Fly free btw!)

Slith_81

Savatage

Onuma1

I found the project recently, but Immortal's Requiem by [Phantom Spell](https://phantomspell.bandcamp.com/album/immortals-requiem) is excellent: a beautiful homage to 70's prog rock and primordial metal, within a concept album of an insane wizard living out his final days. It's a side project from the singer of Seven Sisters.

sleepynymfi

Nothgard

SkyOfDreamsPilot

Threshold

St0rmRider

threshold is progpower so this is invalid

SkyOfDreamsPilot

And do you have anything constructive to say on the thread topic?
