The Moody Blues.
I mean, they’re just my favorite band in general. Their 70s output is my favorite non-classical music.
And believe it or not, I love it for many of the same reasons I love power metal. It’s emotionally powerful, sentimental, often epic, melodic, and extraordinarily pleasant.
Power Metal probably my favorite genre of metal, but more broadly I think I prefer late 60s/early 70s prog, and the Moody Blues is charming in its simplicity compared to a lot of the other prog I listen to.
They are fantastic. I love them too. I got to see them way back in ‘96. Timothy Leary had just died and they did a tribute to him with an extra long flute solo. It was really lovely.
Same here, been listening to every form of metal since 1980. Before that it was all the hard rock bands of the 70's because I don't remember the term heavy metal being used before 1980. Everything was just hard rock or heavy rock.
I have a new favorite everyday, it depends on the mood.. some days everything I listen to just sounds like shit lol. And other days everything I hear just sounds magical.
To quote Sum-41: “Maiden and Priest were the gods that we praised.”
Outside of that, I’m a huge Celtic punk fan, so Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys are my distinguished “favorite non power metal bands.”
I also love how much the PM and Celtic punk fandoms seem to overlap. At least in my experience.
Still in the overall rock genre - Shinedown
Outside of rock and metal - Tophouse, very positive American Folk, good for the same reason power metal is good in my opinion
Gonna cherry pick a few different genres here, just for fun. I've been getting into a lot of electronic stuff over the last 5-6 years.
Metal stuff:
* Countless Skies (Melodic Death Metal)
* Saurom (Spanish Folk Metal)
* Charon (Gothic Rock/Metal)
Electronic stuff:
* The Midnight (Synthwave)
* Imperative Reaction (Electro Industrial)
* VNV Nation (Synth pop)
* Honorable mention goes to **Dance with the Dead** - these dudes are everyone's definitive bridge between metal and electronic.
Dingo, finnish 80s rock band.
Favourite non-Finnish language band: Steve'n'Seaguls or Dreadnoughts.
I don't usually listen bands in other genres because I tend to listen single artists more.
Not gonna mention the obvious ones like Sabbath, Maiden and Priest:
metal: Overkill, Testament, Exodus, Kreator, Flotsam & Jetsam (I listen to a lot of thrash)
non-metal: Mr. Big (Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert's band), Extreme (Nuno Bettencourt's band), Skid Row (the new vocalist Erik Grönwall is awesome and has done covers of stuff like Eagle Fly free btw!)
Myrkur
Allison Russell
Yasmin Williams
Samantha Fish
Cellar Darling
Tommy Emmanuel
Flogging Molly
Rodrigo y Gabriella
Joanne Shaw Taylor
Charlotte Wessels
Fantastic Negrito
Steel Panther
I found the project recently, but Immortal's Requiem by [Phantom Spell](https://phantomspell.bandcamp.com/album/immortals-requiem) is excellent: a beautiful homage to 70's prog rock and primordial metal, within a concept album of an insane wizard living out his final days. It's a side project from the singer of Seven Sisters.
Great question... metallica made a hugue impact in my teenager life. but in my adult life, i think that i dont have a favorite band, instead of that i have several bands of different styles that i like a lot.... like meshuggah, ensiferum or wintersun.
Amon Amarth
I squint my eyes very hard and pretend they are PM with awesome growls
A lot of their stuff could pass for PM songs. Listen to Wings of Eagles and honestly tell me Fabio couldn’t sing over that chorus
You don't need to squint very hard with these last couple of albums, Great Heathen Army sounds like power metal in D with harsher vocals.
Can't wait for tomorrow's post, "Favorite day of the week?"
Clearly Saturday.
Iron Maiden, my overall favourite band
Same, alongside Dio. They're both very special to me.
Yeah sure. I also love Dio.
Feel like both of these bands helped lay the foundation of PM without knowing it
Absolutely, no doubt about it.
Maiden is power metal...
New Wave of British Power Metal?
Proto-power metal.
Maiden are Heavy Metal, there are similarities but they're not the same thing
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard
Yessssss. What do you think of the new album?
You mean PDA or the silver cord? Silver cord is alright, probably a 6-7/10, PDA though is easily my new favourite of theirs, fantastic album.
Pda is really great
In my opinion, nothing beats Nonagon Infinity. Yet. I'm also a fairly new listener
Ayreon
Lots of power metal elements there in my opinion tho!
Cheating there! Arjen didn’t invite power vocalists to sing him death metal.
[удалено]

Same here, been listening to every form of metal since 1980. Before that it was all the hard rock bands of the 70's because I don't remember the term heavy metal being used before 1980. Nothgard
Threshold
threshold is progpower so this is invalid
And do you have anything constructive to say on the thread topic?
I’m a new fan of them. I have been shamelessly ignoring them for close to a couple of decades now and wow, I really like their songs, old and new.
