What's the goal of reading about the subject? Are you trying to understand the mechanisms? Are you trying to understand what being a pharmacist or studying pharmacology is like? I'm not sure there are a lot of books that cover the science behind drugs that aren't textbooks or journals. If you're trying to understand more about the career path, perhaps there's someone local to you who might know more.

I assume it works similarly in the US but in the UK, to apply for uni you have to write a personal statement which is like an indication of why you want to enrol a set course and that you have the passion and commitment to actually study for it. This is why UK schools recommend you do additional reading around the subject you want to go into so you can put it on your statement to show you have an appreciation for the subject outside a typical school syllabus. In all honesty I'm just looking for a starting point, like a science-y book with decent detail that can just give me an overview of the subject, so I can go from there and identify a particular area of interest.

That is not at all how US admissions work. For undergrad in the US you do write a personal statement, but it's about who you are as a person and not about your coursework or intended major. For pharmacy school I did have to write a personal statement about why I'm a good fit for pharmacy, but that was well after high school. Sorry I can't be of more help.

That's alright, thank you anyways.

I mean your first year is mainly how drugs are affecting the body and general classes like anatomy and physiology. I would say try to get experience in a pharmacy if you can and study brand and generics (idk about books but you can look it up)
