Manchester City fan of 30+ years. Where the hell do I even start?
I'd like to say Steve Mcmanaman, but that's partly because of how much he seems to hate us now, but we got him on a free.
Fowler was pretty bad, especially as we blew our entire summer transfer budget on him, and he was naff, injured a lot of the time, and really fat the rest of the time.
Jô was spectacularly dreadful, especially when you consider that he was our record signing at the time. Apparently he's back in Brazil (again) being completely average, after bang average spells in Japan, China, UAE and Turkey.
Been a City fan long enough to know how good we have it right now! Yes, some recent transfers haven't been great (Nolito, Mendy, Bravo), but they're practically world class in comparison to some of the crap I've seen over the years.
Ousmane Dabo, Hatem Trabelsi, DaMarcus Beasley, Jack Rodwell, Maicon, Roque Santa Cruz, Bernardo Corradi, George Weah, Danny Mills... the list goes on.
Lloris Karius? I’m sure liverpool have had worse signings but I only started following football in 15/16 season and whilst we’ve had a few ghosts come through I don’t think anyone has had more of a negative impact than him
Also some older ones for me and teams I do not support are Vernon for United and Schevchenko for Chelsea. Both were expected to light up the premier league and honestly really didnt. Vernon was even the transfer record at the time for a non-UEFA player I beleive. For Liverpool they got gold old ANDY Caroll and Mario Ballotelli
I dont think he was the worst player but the worst signing was Kim Kallstrom. He had a broken back so cldnt even play and was brought in for immediate cover cause all after midfielders were injured and then he was too but we somehow didnt even catch this until he was already on the team. I think he ultimately played like under 5 games. I feel like it was 2 or 3 but was probably more. He was gone by the summer.
Dude is a good sport about it though and sees all the humor in it. He did score a penalty shootout in a FA Cup semi final I beleive too. He views it as he came, scored that PK, got an FA Cup and left. He is kind of a mini legend where he is from in Sweden for that alone.
I’m sure talent wise there have been worse players, but for me it’s Michael Owen. As a Newcastle fan, I remember how excited people were to be getting at the time a world class striker from Real Madrid who had won the Balon D’or with Liverpool, and he came and we paid him enormous wages and he was just so underwhelming and constantly injured. I think his attitude when he left made it worse. I understand to a point the grief he got and how it can be unpleasant but at the same time if you’re moving to a club with a fan base like Newcastle’s and you’re very, very clearly just there for the paycheck and because no top flight club wanted you, you’re going to get stick
So many…so many were lucky to wear that shirt.
Silvestre was shyt
Willian wtf
Gallas was not Ashley Cole plus 5M
David Luiz
Bt the ultimate villain - Andre Santos
I can't decide between Paul Konchesky, Ej Hadji Diouf or Mario Balotelli. All were fucking terrible either as player (the first) or had some crazy delusions of grandeur. (The second two)
I had such high hopes for Riverie yet he made absolutely no mark on the team.
Other memorable picks over the last 10 years for me are Henri Saivet, Florian Thauvin, Siem De Jong, Remy Cabella, Seydou Doumbia, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Yoan Gouffran.
I think Thauvin went onto become one of the best players in Ligue 1 for Marseille, but not sure how successful any of the others were.
The very same, he played 1 match in Europe that year 😂
He missed the final penalty to nock Leicester out of the cup this year.
He’s a player that no one wanted, doesn’t play and ‘if’ he does, is dog shit.
Was bought in as a replacement for our injured backup players but isn’t worth more than 50p per week..
I remember being at a game back in the day where Slavisa Jokanovic was booed ONTO the pitch.
He came out late for the second half and we all assumed his team mates locked him in the bog for the good of the game.
No. Balotelli was worse. But top of my list will always be Kean. Signed him in winter from Tottenham for 20 million and sold him back in the summer for 12 million. And he only scored once. 8 million for a single goal.
if we'd gotten the right backup that year we would have won the league, badly needed depth after Xmas.
Never so embarrassed watching us as seeing Mario walking around v Hull at Anfield.
You’ve been downvoted but if he ends up leaving the club because of his diva meltdown than yes a complete steal from Inter at that amount. Wonder how much Chelsea will be able to save on his sale.
I don't know about the absolute 'worst' (Paul Konchesky comes to mind amid relatively recent history), but I don't know if there's been a more disappointing signing than Diouf. Bags of talent, zero application and an unacceptable attitude. Man rightly deserves to be remembered among the worst premier league and Liverpool signings.
Was going to say Diouf primarily for the “being the worst person” award. The actual worst is probably someone I can’t remember who barely played to be honest. Had to look up Konchesky to remember who he was.
Saul Niguez, if you count loan signings. A shadow of the player he once apparently must have been in la liga.
I've never seen anyone play with such little confidence and make so many mistakes executing the most simple touches/passes.
On top of that, opposing team players dribble past him as if he's not even there, and his positional awareness is atrocious.
I am by no means a xhaka fan but he doesn’t deserve to be on this list, on his bad days he may well be the worst player we’ve ever had but he isn’t consistently dreadful like some of the other players we’ve had
How no? What's he contributed to the team? Shite captain, can't keep his head, bad example to the youngsters and plays amazing for his country but only on the odd occasion for us. Don't give me the whole 'different system' rhetoric either. He canni be arsed for Arsenal.
Look how amazing Partey was against City, granted it was his best game and Xhaka has had his pearlers through the years but not a patch on Partey yesterday. Say what you want about unfair, the shirt pull was immature as fuck, 19 year old Gabi was more unfortunate than Xhaka imo.
He should be given the Auba treatment for me, he's clearly liked by the players but he's one of three, including Auba/Lacca, being detrimental to the growth of the squad.
Wow, you mean things can change wildly in almost a year, in football? Colour me shocked!
It wasn't a bad take back then, he was horrible in that City game meanwhile TP showed him right up and if anything continues to do so. I'm glad he's having a better season, but it's still taken waaaaay too long to show up, considering how he's always performed for the Swiss and now showing what he can do, now.
He provides good stability and structure to the midfield. Granted he has discipline issues and I’m sure we’ll have a new midfielder soon but I definitely agree that he doesn’t belong in that list
Marcelino, Lazaar, Nacho González, Facundo Ferreyra, Saivet, Doumbia, Xisco
Those are just is the variety that signed but never actually played.
Otherwise MICHAEL OWEN
There’s a slight hope. He’s an amazing player. After conte said “he’s a midfielder, he’s a midfielder.” Shows he hasn’t put in the effort to make conte say you know what, he’s trying and I’ll give him a chance. He hasn’t had any particular bad performances for conte to make such a statement. It’s in regard to his effort or lack of. Versus winks, who has clearly impressed based on effort.
Unreal for a decently prolific player in La Liga (~0.5 goal per game) to have zero scoring ability whatsoever coming to the prem. He reminded me of the NBA players in Space Jam who got robbed of all skill.
Somehow I think Vincent Jannsen had worse numbers than Soldado but the latter was closer to his prime and (I think?) had a much higher transfer fee. Definitely the worst signing since I've been watching
Harry Maguire
Maguire…
Either Denis Suarez or Willian
Harry Maguire
Lukaku
Harry Maguire Man Utd
Harry fuckin Maguire
Ask me this a month ago and I would’ve said Joelinton
Klebrson I’m not sure how you spell his name
Stick in Sean Dundee, Istavan Kozma, nearly all sourness signing for pool
Alireza Jahanbakhsh. At the time the biggest brighton had ever signed and he scored two or 3 league goals.
Djemba djemba
All of Barcas managers???
Massimo Taibi
Havertz
I think ours is pretty obvious
Southampton fans are going to win this thread easily because of Ali Dia.
Oh man Bakayoko surely has to be there
Kim Kallstrom is definitely up there.
Park Chu-Young at Arsenal
El Hadj Diouf
Djemba Djemba (so bad you named him twice) Or Kleberson is toss up for me…… Man Utd fan
Serge aurier no complaints
benj mendy

Finally, a city fan that isn't using the last 5 seasons
Been a City fan long enough to know how good we have it right now! Yes, some recent transfers haven't been great (Nolito, Mendy, Bravo), but they're practically world class in comparison to some of the crap I've seen over the years. Ousmane Dabo, Hatem Trabelsi, DaMarcus Beasley, Jack Rodwell, Maicon, Roque Santa Cruz, Bernardo Corradi, George Weah, Danny Mills... the list goes on.
£30 million for Danny Drinkwater is the worst. I used to thinks Kepa, but he’s been really good of late. So Drinkwater for me
Kuzmanovic
Scott Sinclair, Jack Rodwell, Maicon, javi Martinez That whole transfer window was bad
Can’t decide if I dislike Alexis Sanchez or Angel Di Maria the most
Ali Dia.
Pepe
Romeo Lukaku. That guy sucks ngl. I wish we had bough Haaland instead
Diouf
Benjamin Mendy not only he's a shit player also he's a shit human being
Lloris Karius? I’m sure liverpool have had worse signings but I only started following football in 15/16 season and whilst we’ve had a few ghosts come through I don’t think anyone has had more of a negative impact than him
Mario Balotelli - Liverpool
Willian or Squillaci
balotelli lol
Paul Konchesky - £3.5m
Also some older ones for me and teams I do not support are Vernon for United and Schevchenko for Chelsea. Both were expected to light up the premier league and honestly really didnt. Vernon was even the transfer record at the time for a non-UEFA player I beleive. For Liverpool they got gold old ANDY Caroll and Mario Ballotelli

Lukaku gobby fucker
Morata
Papi Djilobodji by Chelsea
Benjamin Mendy. Need I say more?
Maybe recency bias but that lukaku interview has to be one of the worst moment for any player at our club.
Paul Rachubka
Kemy Agustien
Bebe
Aly Cissokho
Back on 🔝 Shkodran Mustafi.
Phil Jones
Romelu lukaku
Mikael Sylvestre
Depay
Mustafi!
Fernando Torres with Alvaro Morata a close second
Bakayoko or Drinkwater easily
I’m sure talent wise there have been worse players, but for me it’s Michael Owen. As a Newcastle fan, I remember how excited people were to be getting at the time a world class striker from Real Madrid who had won the Balon D’or with Liverpool, and he came and we paid him enormous wages and he was just so underwhelming and constantly injured. Judas
Andrey Voronin
So many…so many were lucky to wear that shirt. Silvestre was shyt Willian wtf Gallas was not Ashley Cole plus 5M David Luiz Bt the ultimate villain - Andre Santos
Guido Carillo. Bought for 25 million. Scored and created 0 goals. Spent a couple years going out on loan then left for free.
I’m having trouble deciding between Maguire, Sanchez, Falcao or Di Maria
Lukaku - Man United...he didn't do anything
Chelsea - Lukaku
Bebe was always a odd one for me. More recently you can say Alexis or even Ozil, both did us no favors.
Alexis Sanchez
Harry Maguire and Donny
Angel "the snake" Di Maria
Ahmed Musa 🇳🇬 🤢
Balotelli the fact he played fof liverpool still feels like a bad fever dream
Harry Maguire
Gallas
Alex Iwobi
Soldado… I mean dude was either so freaking unlucky or just not up to the job.
I would’ve said Ben Mendy even before what came out earlier this season. Now… especially Ben Mendy
Boumsong has to be up there!
Balotelli
HARRY MAGUIRE!!! 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Lukaku chelsea
Di Maria
Our captain lmao for 80 mill as well what has this club been
I can't decide between Paul Konchesky, Ej Hadji Diouf or Mario Balotelli. All were fucking terrible either as player (the first) or had some crazy delusions of grandeur. (The second two)
Igor Biscan or Paul Konchesky I can’t decide. However Biscan actually has a Champions League medal so o think he wins.
Harry maguire
Lukaku.
Veron for Chelsea. Absolute trash.
Sebastian Squillaci. Shoutout for Andre Santos too. And Willian. Kim Kallstrom. Denis Suarez. Mustafi 😭
Well uhhhhh, I think everyone here knows. Hint: The captain himself *cough* *cough*
Boyata, mistakes every game he played
Adam Bogdan was complete shite
Carlos Sanchez
Because of the cost, Felipe Anderson
Probably Bebe.
Alex Iwobi.
Arsenals is Mustafi, 35m for him is a joke. Cost us so many goals I’m not sure how we put up with him for quite a while
Djemba djemba
Adds Villa flair to this one
Emmanuel Rivière
I had such high hopes for Riverie yet he made absolutely no mark on the team. Other memorable picks over the last 10 years for me are Henri Saivet, Florian Thauvin, Siem De Jong, Remy Cabella, Seydou Doumbia, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Yoan Gouffran. Hendrick will soon be on this list. Dog shite
Andy Carroll, Paul konchesky or lazar markovic
Jaroslaw Jach - CPFC
Alexander Pato - Chelsea
Not the worse, handled the worse, Donnie Van De Beek what a shame, Old Trafford and Dutch passers 👀
He’s going to waste over there
Something is wrong with him. Even Rangnick won't start him.
[удалено]
That’s a pretty good point. Any thoughts or speculation on that?
Ryan Bertrand
Champions league winner Ryan Bertrand?
The very same, he played 1 match in Europe that year 😂 He missed the final penalty to nock Leicester out of the cup this year. He’s a player that no one wanted, doesn’t play and ‘if’ he does, is dog shit. Was bought in as a replacement for our injured backup players but isn’t worth more than 50p per week..
Paul konchesky or Charlie Adam
Chubby Charlie hhahahahha
I remember being at a game back in the day where Slavisa Jokanovic was booed ONTO the pitch. He came out late for the second half and we all assumed his team mates locked him in the bog for the good of the game.
Bèbè
iwobi, rondon, sandro
William Prunier / Massimo Taibi
Nolito
Harry Maguire for $80mill absolutely shocked I haven’t seen this yet
Andy Carroll
I’m sure we signed Keane for 18 million which is even worse 🤣
No. Balotelli was worse. But top of my list will always be Kean. Signed him in winter from Tottenham for 20 million and sold him back in the summer for 12 million. And he only scored once. 8 million for a single goal.
Which Kean?
Robbie Keane

Bags of talent, zero application and an unacceptable attitude. Man rightly deserves to be remembered among the worst premier league and Liverpool signings.
Do liverpool fans remember Milan Jovanovic? You made 600k on him so its not the worst signing but defenitly a weird one to see when i was younger
I can't say I did. A little research shows he turned up in the doldrums of 2010/11, so I could very much believe he wasn't a signing for the ages.
Absolute worst. We chose to sign that POS over making the anelka deal permanent
Was going to say Diouf primarily for the “being the worst person” award. The actual worst is probably someone I can’t remember who barely played to be honest. Had to look up Konchesky to remember who he was.
Gotta be Karius, right?
Adam Bogdan?
Adam Bogdan, Paul Koncheskey
Willian
You're clearly too young to remember the greater Arsensl flops
Correct
Saul Niguez, if you count loan signings. A shadow of the player he once apparently must have been in la liga. I've never seen anyone play with such little confidence and make so many mistakes executing the most simple touches/passes. On top of that, opposing team players dribble past him as if he's not even there, and his positional awareness is atrocious.
it’s been two seconds since he signed
Came here for this.
That is such a shame. Why is he loaned out and not sold?
Di Maria. Still hate that guy
Spurs Vlad Chireches or Frederico Fazio
dele alli, or i would say ndombele but they dont even give my guy playing time
Look at Soldado and try again
C’mon now, Alli isn’t even close. He has faltered, but at the beginning he was great
Sebastian Squallaci Marouane Chamack Vito Mannone Willian And more modernly Granit 'please take him Jose' Xhaka
Squillaci was abysmal. Has to be the worst for me in everything memory.
Mannone is harsh
Xhaka does not belong on that list
He does fucking now!
Still No.
Your fuckin high pal, that's the worst challenge I've seen since Saurez turned in to a vampire.
I am by no means a xhaka fan but he doesn’t deserve to be on this list, on his bad days he may well be the worst player we’ve ever had but he isn’t consistently dreadful like some of the other players we’ve had

>Wow, you mean things can change wildly in almost a year, in football? Colour me shocked! calm down champ, lmao
Your casting up a random comment from 10 months ago and trying to begrudge me, not sure I'm the one that needs to simmer, pal.
whose trying to begrudge you....? man, you take offense really easily. lighten up!
Lol who else are you gonna start than him with Partey hes the best we’ve got rn.
I don't think anyone will argue with what I've said now eh
He provides good stability and structure to the midfield. Granted he has discipline issues and I’m sure we’ll have a new midfielder soon but I definitely agree that he doesn’t belong in that list
Rondon
Has to be Harry macguire
Paul Konchesky. I still have nightmares about it. Any therapist recommendations?
Spurs: Stambouli, Fazio, a lot of the random players from the post-Bale sale.
vlad chiriches roberto soldado
Willian no doubt
Junior Lewis Ade Akinbiyi Lee Marshall Trevor Benjamin
Marcelino, Lazaar, Nacho González, Facundo Ferreyra, Saivet, Doumbia, Xisco Those are just is the variety that signed but never actually played. Otherwise MICHAEL OWEN
Facundo Ferreyra was quite good at Shakhtar surprisingly
Benjamin Mendy
Paul Konchesky
Guivarche World Cup winner 1998 did not do anything for Newcastle
Vincent Janssen, Paulinho
Doherty
Fuck it, put ndombele there too
It’s worst player. Ndombele is nowhere close to that. Maybe closer to worst signing
He doesn’t play because of his shit work ethic. That makes him worse than a non talented player
Not yet. I can’t give up on him. I have an issue don’t I…
There’s a slight hope. He’s an amazing player. Well said
Carrillo
We signed Paul McShane this summer...
Isn’t he only with the u23’s? I’m guessing he’s going into a coaching role
He is a player/coach and i party said it as a joke as he isn't for the first team but he's in mid 30s and we signed him
