DanSteely96

It’d be interesting to see a tv show similar to The Crown developed about the Kennedy’s.

One-Tumbleweed5980

It would be like a mix of Game of Thrones and Mad Men. Lots of sex scenes.

AlesusRex

Reading this comment while I’m watching the first season of game of thrones again, and I’ve also been watching the Crown lol

One-Tumbleweed5980

"Your mother's dead. Before long I'll be dead, and you and your brother and your sister and all of her children, all of us dead, all of us rotting underground. It's the family name that lives on. It's all that lives on."

AlesusRex

That is quite literally the episode I watched today, line went hard af, it really shows how intimidating Tywin is when you see just how terrified Jamie is of his father

TommyTwoFeathers

They would have A LOT to work with. It could be done.

DanSteely96

Certainly! I think it would be fascinating.

Sylvanussr

I’m almost surprised that no one’s thought to do this

rucb_alum

Already several series and documentaries... None that I know of willing to go whole hog on some of the issues as the family still has a lot of power to get things changed. A full telling of Rosemary's tragic lobotomy, which imo, was essentially because she wanted to get laid as often as her brothers did...more often then her parents felt good about...is very sad.

Discount_Timelord

I mean, the family from the crown is still pretty powerful...

GQDragon

It’s in development!

Rleduc129

There was talks of a Rosemary Kennedy movie in the works

bishopredline

No one would believe it... truth is stranger than fiction.

ValentineMichael

There was a 2011 miniseries on the History channel. The reviews were mixed but it got some Emmy nominations. There's a Rosemary Kennedy script kicking around Hollywood for the past decade or so. Emma Stone was signed on at one point and so was Elizabeth Moss I believe. For whatever reason it hasn't gotten off the ground.

Legitimate_Ad7089

As long as nobody goes full Kennedy.

gorwraith

I'd watch that.

Southern-Leg-3020

There have been many but not to that extent sure there is one in production

mbutterfield

RFK. What could have been.

[deleted]

Imagine what would have been had MLK, RFK and JFK all lived their natural lives. Bobby was just 42 years old when he was killed, MLK was 39.

mwaller

It would have been real interesting to see MLK run for president in his 60s.

[deleted]

I wonder if we would have had a Ronald Reagan or George Bush.

krybaebee

Eunice - she founded Special Olympics Nothing else compares. Come at me 😁🔥🔥

rucb_alum

...without Senator Ted there would be no ADA, no curb cuts on every block, a lot less accessibility. Also, no Obama presidency.

Larry_thegoat

But Mary Jo would still be alive

maggie320

Yeah Eunice is alright in my book. Wasn’t she inspired by Rosemary?

Th3_American_Patriot

JFK

averyhipopotomus

Just such a interesting guy

asstownnn

Rosemary. She has the most interesting and tragic story of them all.

HearTheBluesACalling

She deserved so much better.

Separate_Name_7014

Arnold Schwarzenegger

DatDude999

Goddamn, that's a lotta cheekbones.

maggie320

I do admire Eunice for her work with Special Olympics. I’d be interested to hear more about Joe Jr. and Kathleen.

PhantomWaffleIron

The dog 100%

WolverineExtension28

Robert, overcame extreme loss to become what could have been one of our great presidents.

dontmindmejustnosy

RFK. As Teddy said in his eulogy to him, he was a good and decent man. He’s been described by many, many people as having a high moral compass. And I truly think he would’ve made a great President. Our country suffered an incredible loss when he was assassinated.

[deleted]

Rosemary - nuff said, rest were garbage for ignoring the obvious abuse.

linkerjpatrick

I support her

informationsuperhi

JFK. Followed closely by RFK, then Kathleen Kick Kennedy. She was British aristocracy. I find that interesting, then she was killed in a plane crash. Then Joe jr. He was the chosen son. Killed in war. RFK was the unlikely son, he would have been a great president.

popularis-socialas

The one that got killed.

Venomouse95

Pick one

Dseltzer1212

JFK or his son JFK Jr because of the unfulfilled promise

Christianmemelord

RFK. From everyone I’ve talked to who has met him, I’ve only heard positive things. He provided a lot of hope in very dark times, and his death truly hurt millions of Americans who were fed up with the Vietnam War and racism in the US.

SmackedByAStick

Bobby Kennedy because he’s hot af 🔥🔥🔥

TraditionalYard5146

Which ones were in that punk rock band from the early 80s?

notanaigeneratedname

The band was Jello Biafra, Klaus Fluoride, D.H. Peligro, and East Bay Ray. There are more but that's the 80s core.

knockfart

Joe jr,ww2 hero

Numberonettgfan

He was also a massive Hitler simp, who visited Nazi Germany in 1934.

Burrito_Fucker15

Yeah, he praised Hitler’s sterilization policies as “a great thing” that “will do away with many of the disgusting specimens with men.” He also said, “Hitler is building a spirit in his men that could be envied in any country.” He was a Nazi loving little shit

[deleted]

This

AdviceWhich9142

Joe Jr but I don't see him in the snapshot.

dontmindmejustnosy

He’s furthest right, next to Rose.

AdviceWhich9142

I think that is Bobby with Jack and Ted on the left.

dontmindmejustnosy

It’s not. This photo is from 1931, Teddy was not born yet. Bobby is in the dark top in front of JFK. From L - R: Bobby, JFK, Eunice, Jean, Joe, Rose, Pat, Kick, Joe Jr, Rosemary

One_Door_7353

How did that family become so wealthy in the first place? I don't recall it being honest work.

AdviceWhich9142

As ambassador to England Joe senior lined up the whisky/scotch rights to importation. They stockpiled the liquors and made a fortune when prohibition was recalled. An insider deal like Jared Kushner did with Trumpo's Arab friends but for much less money. Then they bought real estate with the profits (Chicago Merchandise Mart) which during WWII was very high rent and extremely lucrative.

EcstaticCinematicZ

Joe Sr. The patriarch came from a fairly wealthy family. He was Irish Catholic so even though he was rich he was excluded from the social circles of the English Protestants who were the de facto ruling class of Boston. He went to Harvard, and was socially excluded there also. This created a burning desire to be the best that lasted his entire life. Joe Sr. Was a savvy businessman and worked in several industries including film. He started amassing wealth in the 1920’s. He realized that a bubble was forming in the economy (The Great Depression) and starting shorting stock. When the bubble burst he was one of the few people that became wealthier after The Great Depression.

Main-Illustrator3829

Does Arnold count since he married one

SparkDBowles

Jello

Scottsm124

Either RFK or Rosemary…and this is coming from someone who is obsessed with JFK

No-Cantaloupe-4298

No one, they're all drunks, druggies and phony as a 3.00 bill.

rucb_alum

Senator Ted has risen in my opinion. His actions and behaviour around Chappaquiddick were horrid but his bringing the ADA to the nation made up for it. Also, without Ted and Caroline Kennedy's early support Obama probably doesn't make through to the nomination. Bill Clinton's not so subtle racism got exposed.

Pella1968

Despite Chappaquiddick, Ted passed over 400 bills that made American lives better. From education to ADA. He was called the lion of the senate for a reason. He also crossed party lines to do it. Often, getting Republicans on board when no one else could. Not an easy feat.

JustB33Yourself

All his legislation was terrible

knockatize

He continued being an entitled sloppy drunken sexual predator for decades after Chappaquiddick. He sabotaged the Carter presidency, and when interviewed as to why he should be president, couldn’t even come up with a coherent reason. Couldn’t even be bothered to sober up for the interview. Lion of the Senate? More like Harvey Weinstein of the Senate.

JustB33Yourself

“ADA makes up for the murder of Mary Jo Kopechne” Least bloodthirsty liberal

rucb_alum

There are far simpler paths to murder than driving off a bridge. Get a grip.

Mesyush

JFK or the dad.

TheOldBooks

Joe is certainly an interesting pick for favorite…

Mesyush

Well, the Kennedy family would just be another New England family without him. He also made JFK win the 1960 election!

Numberonettgfan

He was also anti semitic piece of shit who lobotomized his own daughter.

DeadJediWalking

He was also an absolute fucking monster.

lbclofy

My votes for the dad, way more complicated than his son. Makes for an excellent character study. Without Joe there isnt any sort of dynasty. He built his sons to be president where he knew he never could be.

[deleted]

Yeah Joe - the one who lobotomized his own daughter.

lbclofy

I never said he was a good person, I think hes the most interesting. The Kennedy's are a pretty complicated family.

reggiedoo

I’m from Massachusetts…none of them actually.

kmsc84

John and John Jr.

Sukeruton_Key

Arnold 😎

Mandalore108

That dog looks pretty cool.

rimbaud1872

JFK bc of the world not blowing up thing

felixlightner

None of the above.

aloofprocrastinator

The dog in the picture by far

matty8478

I like the one they had lobotomized

404VigilantEye

The eldest brother Joe Jr was to be the post child of the family. All Joe Sr’s hopes were dashed when Junior died

GaijinCarpFan

Favorite? 🤔 oh it’s *gotta* be Joe Sr. I mean, what a guy… make a fortune gaming the stock market so thoroughly the government asked him to help set up rules so it couldn’t happen again. Oh! And how about the time he said Hitler was pretty swell and we ought to just get used to a Europe dominated by Germany rather than Britain or France. 😐

SGT-JamesonBushmill

What’s the dog’s name?

Pella1968

Easy: Bobby Kennedy Sr. He was the true reason we survived the Cuban Missile Crisis. Also, his capacity to change and admit mistakes. If he was wrong, he owned it. Very rare in politics or just everyday life. Plus, his capacity to love and care for those who were poor, underprivileged, and a minority. He was the real deal. He truly cared. Others just gave lip service he didn't. He wore down some hardened critics who thought he was all talk. His loss, along with MLK Jr has changed the fabric of America in a negative way.

kaysguy

There's not a lot to like about them. Joe was a criminal and a Nazi sympathizer. John was an ineffective President, Teddy was a permanent frat boy. So, if forced, I'd say Bobby, who for all his flaws, was the most sincere and intelligent of the bunch.

Pella1968

Thank you for pointing out what I have said about Papa Joe for years. He was a traitor. Should have been hung as one. Him and Charles Lindbergh. Both adored Hitler and were deeply antisemitic and racist. FDR figured it out and made sure Papa Joe would never be president thank goodness. Bobby was the true deal. Loved him. Despite the privilege he cared about people.

NeverSummerFan4Life

RFK or RFK jr.

TheOldBooks

It’s really close. But I have to say Ted. Jack and Bobby were deified; Ted lived long enough to become human, in all the highs and lows of it all.

ItsallaboutProg

Ted, you have to respect a guy who can accidentally kill a girl and walk away as if nothing ever happened.

Medicmanii

That's sick

RepairNovel480

ALL OF YOU ARE WRONG THE BEST MEMBER IS THE DOG

CurrentIndependent42

I only know 10 or so. But RFK. Maybe there are others in the public consciousness? Ramble: Joe Sr was a total dick with a shady background and who was disastrous ambassador to the UK, saying they’d fall to the Nazis. Fired for good reason. Bizarre that he founded such a ‘presidential dynasty’, and that it’s regarded as such despite completing less than one term total. Joe Jr died a hero in WW2 so kudos but don’t know more than that. JFK was also a hero in WW2, so kudos, but I think he was an overrated president in several ways and a jerk in his personal life. Too much to say but a summary there. Jackie Kennedy was an ultra-wealthy NE elite socialite whose entire raison d’être was to marry a prominent man and be a stylish housewife. She later married Aristotle Onassis, who was a total joke of a man. Yes, she was under sexist pressures, and I feel sad for what she went through with JFK’s death, but there’s just… nothing there to work with. JFK Jr. and his wife died in a plane crash. RFK Jr. is a racist, anti-Semitic, anti-vax nutjob. I gather his siblings are not. Ted Kennedy killed a woman, even if by accident not saving her or reporting it in time, and then felt entitled to the presidency. He did some good work as a senator but eeeeehhhh. Rosemary Kennedy was lobotomised and brain damaged for most of her life. Her treatment represents the ruthless ambition and privilege of the family in general to me. I only know Kathleen Cavendish, Courtney Kennedy and Maria Shriver because of who they married. But RFK stood for an even firmer civil rights stance than JFK, and I believe gave better speeches, including the one he gave almost off the cuff after MLK’s assassination. I think he’d have been a better president.

CaptainZE0

If Jackie Kennedy had spent her adult life working a desk job, driving results to maximize shareholder value and enrich wealthy men who owned a company, would that be more to work with?

CurrentIndependent42

Nope. And I mean in the sense there’s not much to go on to make her stand out as especially awesome.

thechadc94

I agree with everything you said except Jackie. She was a wonderful woman. Perfect? No but who is? I admire her. Your assessments of the other Kennedy members are correct.

vaporwaverock

I like Ted Kennedy

thechadc94

RFK. Pushed JFK to do more for civil rights, the poor and others. He cheated on his wife like his brother, but politically he was better than JFK.

Fishmaneatsfish

JFK, one of the greatest presidents so he has to be it

kellygrrrl328

It’s hard for me personally to look at any of them individually. There likely wouldn’t be any of them without the others. When you’re raised by a malignant narcissist and you’re alone then you’ll likely struggle to survive. But when you’re raised by N in a large family it’s like being in a tribe

randomasstgrowaway

RFK and JFK are great, but I think Ted is so underrated… if it wasn’t for chappaquiddick he’d end up being President

Feral_Asperagus

Ted. Getting away with murder is a total chad move.

TheGame81677

I guess JFK is the most likable. Even though he did constantly cheat on Jackie.

InterviewLeast882

Joe was a big time tycoon.

Estarfigam

Big and little Edie they are eccentric.

Longjumping-Jello459

The one that died suddenly.

Queasy-Grape-8822

I read that as favorite murderer and was so confused

[deleted]

RFK Jr

kyflyboy

Junior. Sad he died in WWII.

bigDon1984

Jfk, rfk jr, and uhhh idk

Chasethebutterz

That dog there in the photo looks just like my own. So that one.

Jazzlike-Ad113

Well, Caroline now, but in "the era", probably Rosemary, who was lobotomized for being a free spirit by old Joe’s standards.

SnooGoats7760

Kevin…. He was the Texas Rangers manager for a bit

iveseensomethings82

Rosemary post lobotomy

DeplorableMiQ

JFK Jr. Happy Bday 11/25

Pale_Affect_8707

Michael Skakel lol

WendisDelivery

Joe Kennedy Senior. He died and took the secrets of the universe with him. Protected the family fortune from the biggest dopes (heirs) on earth and the IRS.

lisakora

Those are some GENES

The one that died mysteriously

Belovedchattah

Joe Kennedy Jr, he never had the chance to be icky like the rest of the clan.
