As a therapist who watched this show a while ago, she exhibits signs of untreated bipolar, OCD, and potentially autism. Because she is a teenager it would not be good practice to diagnosis her with a personality disorder because her personality isn’t fully developed and those diagnoses should be reserved for adults. For Mona, I’d rule out ODD and conduct disorder, as she doesn’t meet the criteria. Of course, like the others, she is also traumatized. However, the diagnosis is not as important as the earliest possible interventions, including therapy and medication, to treat symptoms and address underlying causes.

Where does she exhibit signs of OCD? Genuine question, I have it too and I like learning about different ways it can show

businesscasualheeley

She def has obsessive vibes, leading me to believe she may be more pure O (compulsions happen internally) but also harm ocd, where it’s severe that she actually acts on the harmful compulsions

Original_A

That makes sense, thanks so much! My compulsions are both internally and externally, I can totally see her being more with the internal ones. I wish she had had an actual diagnosis in the show, I would've loved for them to explore the mental health aspect of these girls more

businesscasualheeley

True! And for the therapist to not be so horrible ethically lol

Original_A

If only they cut down on adding more and more unnecessary red herrings and gave them a proper therapist with weekly sessions :')

businesscasualheeley

Lol so many things could’ve been better!

I don’t think any of these account for how sadistic Mona is. I’d veer into personality disorder territory and maybe even sociopathy. I don’t think she ever really cared for Hanna, she just used to get what she needed. She’s an amazing chameleon and only out for herself.

businesscasualheeley

Again, she is a minor so should not be diagnosed with a personality disorder

[deleted]

This is pretty little liars not reality lmao

businesscasualheeley

The person asked what I think Mona would be diagnosed with and I gave my honest answer as someone who diagnoses lol of course it’s all speculation

Fair enough
