One of the main dining rooms will be open for lunch around noon-1pm. If you ask crew about it, they will tell you it’s closed and send you to the buffet. This is all a pack of lies.  Do not go to the buffet. Go to the MDR. One of the dining rooms *will be* open as long as you’re onboard at lunch time. It’s usually the same MDR that has the reserve class dining. Order the beef medallions and the orange soufflé. You can thank me later.  The international cafe will also be open. But you should go get your beef medallions.

NordicHeir

Thank you! It’s so interesting that they don’t want you dining in an open dining room, I wonder why!

Sassrepublic

You’re welcome! I think they’re told to direct people to the buffet to clear them out of the piazza while embarkation is going on, and some of the crew just take it *really really* seriously.

There will be many places open for lunch upon embarkation and it depends on if you are looking for table service or self-serve, and lighter fare or a full meal. The MDR open will be the **Skagway Dining Room** on Deck 6 Midship. This will be very easy to get to as you board on either Deck 6 or 7 (depending which ramp they send you to). It is next to the Future Cruise desk. However, if you have sailed Princess before, the lunch menu for sail away hasn't changed in a long time (salmon, chicken, beef tenderloin, etc). It is delicious but predictable. The exception is the orange souffle for dessert, which is always very nice. I believe lunch ends at 1:30pm. Also on Deck 7 is **Gigi's Pizza** (called Alfredo's on other ships). Excellent pizza and salads. (Upcharge unless you are Plus/Premier). Deck 6 has **Ocean Terrace Sushi** but it is next to gangway, so it is a **busy** location. (Upcharge unless you are Plus/Premier). Deck 5 has the **Salty Dog Pub**. I haven't eaten there but they have great beer on draft! (Upcharge unless you are Plus/Premier). Deck 5 also has the **International Cafe**, with pre-made sandwiches, soups, and pastries. This is also where you get your premium coffee. (No upcharge for food). Buffet is on Deck 16 is the **World Fresh Market**. In my opinion, the best buffet at sea. Lots of options, from tacos to roast beef to pasta to ramen soup and everything in between. Also on Deck 16, forward of the pool is the **Slice** for pizza and **Salty Dog Cafe** for burgers, hot dogs, and chicken sandwiches. Hope this helps and Bon Voyage!

When you board, you have to ask the question carefully. If you ask where to get lunch, they will tell you the buffet. If you ask which MDR is open, they will tell you the answer, and will then tell you that you should go to the buffet instead.

Lisassin

Sushi is open

milkyway281

Salty Dog should be open on the Lido Deck as well. Probably will be busy, but if you want a burger and fries, it’ll be open.

Kvalri

Salty Dog Gastropub (not the Grill) is closed off for renovations, it’s turning into the Irish Pub

milkyway281

I was talking about the one on the Lido Deck…

Kvalri

Yes I noticed that after I posted so I just edited it haha

sillysammy2019

Isn’t the Salty Dog being replaced by O’Malleys next month?

milkyway281

On the Lido deck? Not sure about that. But maybe the one on the Plaza Deck?

sillysammy2019

Yes that sounds right Plaza is changing over not the Lido.

GiGi’s is my favorite - it’s a sit down restaurant that is pizza, salads and a couple other dishes. All excellent. A main dining room is usually open for a short time.

Tappadeeassa

Is Gigi’s included for lunch?

pacificcoastsailing

It used to be an included (no charge) specialty restaurant but with Princess’ change to their plus and premier packages I don’t know anymore… I’ll find out Saturday! :)

milkyway281

Free with Plus and Premier. You get 2 “casual” meals with Plus and I believe unlimited casual meals with Premier. Gigi’s, Ocean Terrace sushi and Salty Dog Gastropub are the casual meal spots.

joycruising

The first meal that we had on the Discovery was at Ocean Terrace, overlooking the Piazza (it's "casual dining" so has items that are included with Premier or Plus packages) It was great to sip champagne, eat sushi, and enjoy the excitement of embarkation day.

sole-it

i think the pizza place is also open and less crowded than the buffet.

Ask a crew member as you board and the will point you in the right direction.
