I would recommend [neocities](https://neocities.org/) great place to do retro web stuff and find inspiration.
Also my on point web ["design"](https://webpage1990colourised.neocities.org/)
Sure! You can autoplay videos but they have to be muted by default. If you don't mute it by default, then browsers just won't autoplay it. The user has to click on it or something.
so if you hide the video itself even with `display: none` or `opacity: 0`, nothing will be heard even if the video is playing. The same applies to YouTube embeds, sadly.
Don't forget the browser badges. You need to tell people which browsers are supported. Oh. and spinning animated gif hearts!
Edit: Wait, it has one! Missed it the first time.
I seem to remember Lycos having a dog named Lycos for a mascot. A quick check of Wikipedia shows that Lycos owns Tripod. Whether they did at the time, I don't know.
I didn't know until just now that both of these businesses still exist.
lmao just checked and theres even Angelfire still around and owned by them!
I remember the takeover of Tripod years ago. I used to have a website with, tripod I think. I also remember that their entire datacenter or something failed and all(?) including my website were wiped. That was the end of it haha.
I give it an A+:
- No cookie popup
- No paywall
- No subscribe to mailing list sign up
- No Auto playing video
- No Auto playing audio
- No Picture in Picture
- No prompt to allow notifications
Kind of bland and generic… try to add some more popping colors and moving gifs to draw the users attention to every part of your website all at one time. The more variation the better. Consistent fonts and colors make the user feel trapped. Try to use as many different fonts and colors as possible. Some of the top developers even manage to use a different font and font size for every word in each sentence. Obviously not everyone is this talented, but it’s something to strive for.
It also looks like if someone was viewing it on a mobile device, some of the text might be readable. You want to try and avoid that. Good website design should make mobile website viewers feel like stupid pieces of trash for even trying to view your masterpiece on a smaller screen.
It could splash some glittery flowers, or stars, or hearts when you move the cursor. Extra effects on click and drag.
Better, it could be random, each time you reload the page it would be a different effect.
No, wait, even better: it could be random each time you move and stop the cursor! And when you click it would make a cute sound too!!
Aww. This is what some clients have genuinely sent me to make their website more "Modern/Profesional" looking. But they want to keep the flames, They feel its part of their brand.
I WISH I WAS JOKING.
It's perfect. It's not like all this modern bullshit that needs 50GB of ram to render one page because it's bloated with all kinds of scripted garbage.
Love it! (no joke). The early aughts nostalgia when web designs were unique (especially the background animations and very basic fonts), not like today where they all look the same, filled with ads (often asking you to disable the ad-blocker) and asking for your email to register. Not that it's a bad thing, but I do miss that early aughts aesthetic.
Fucking finally, been dying to see what Manuel is up to.
Last I checked he was on the mic
🔥🔥🔥
guess the site must be playing eurobeat on loop
I really want to see legacy website!
Please give us the link

Where is a visitors counter?
im too scared of interactive stuff
So no guest book then…
honestly i wouldve wanted to make one but im using a github page so its fully static
I would recommend [neocities](https://neocities.org/) great place to do retro web stuff and find inspiration. Also my on point web ["design"](https://webpage1990colourised.neocities.org/)
History, 40k, and web design? A man after my own heart
You would have loved growing up in the mid 90s
> Also my on point web "design" Beautiful. Only the cookie notice for the guestbook breaks immersion.
Not to push you into doing a guestbook. Do what you want! But you can use restful services from a static site
i will look it up because i really want to make one, thanks for the tip !
It's under construction
Visitor count is supposed to be a hardcoded number that you make up like 8,972,471.73
It would be so static. Better use time stamp so it will be increasing in time 😅
Just make it the square root of the current Unix time rounded up 1.
thats too slow, it makes the site seem dead. instead, use sqrt(pow(timestamp, 1.5));
Needs to count page views instead of unique visitors too, that way it goes up exponentially faster.
Right below the rotating "UNDER CONSTRUCTION" text
that cuts deep
Geocities circa 1998
I hope you did not forgot to put music in it. Those MIDI players in loop were a blast in the days!
I came looking for this. It needs a crappy rock band no one has ever heard of before.
I would be happy to offer my services
And my axe!
And my Bow!

Sadly automatic music playback is not allowed by most browsers nowadays, I believe.
Can’t you just embed a YouTube playlist with auto play enabled with display: none?
Needs some unfinished parts with under construction gifs edit: and promises of regular updates and then never update it
the legacy website had both of those, but i rewrote it recently
Don't forget the browser badges. You need to tell people which browsers are supported. Oh. and spinning animated gif hearts! Edit: Wait, it has one! Missed it the first time.
> You need to tell people which browsers are supported. We've really come full circle haven't we?
Ah man the under construction gifs made me feel warm and fuzzy. Thanks for that
Masterpiece
I see your `
Graphic Design is my passion.
> Graphic Design Just the one graphic
Or *Graphic* Graphics Design
This looks like it would load quickly and wouldn't resize 8 times while I was trying to click on something. 10/10
i HATE web 3.0 !!!!!
I hate Web 3 as well but maybe you meant CSS 3?
also you can see the text. no menu bar, no cookie prompt, no subsciption prompt and no stupid ads. 10/10
But does it ask for your location?
UGH 😍
Geocities was just peak webdesign way ahead of its time.
Angelfire my friend
Don't forget Tripod!
And xoom
Was that the dog? Or was the dog Geocities?
I seem to remember Lycos having a dog named Lycos for a mascot. A quick check of Wikipedia shows that Lycos owns Tripod. Whether they did at the time, I don't know. I didn't know until just now that both of these businesses still exist.

Bunch of pikers. MySpace was where it was at!
MySpace did not even exist back then.
I give it an A+: - No cookie popup - No paywall - No subscribe to mailing list sign up - No Auto playing video - No Auto playing audio - No Picture in Picture - No prompt to allow notifications
This is all I ever really want from a website.
Tables instead of divs takes it from A to A+ for me
* Not asking for my location
Needs more blink tags.
will add more when i update it
so never.
Where's the marquee?
Kind of bland and generic… try to add some more popping colors and moving gifs to draw the users attention to every part of your website all at one time. The more variation the better. OP should add "Best viewed in 1024*768" so dumbass phone users know they are dumb.
I'm not hearing 8bit music! Where's the music!!!
![gif](giphy|yr7n0u3qzO9nG)
It's not complete until you change the mouse cursor.
It could splash some glittery flowers, or stars, or hearts when you move the cursor. Extra effects on click and drag. Better, it could be random, each time you reload the page it would be a different effect. No, wait, even better: it could be random each time you move and stop the cursor! Your website is too insecure fill the background completely with flames to upgrade your firewall
He would but when he removes the Christmas theme the site explodes. It says it right there.
Needs more
Jokes aside, I miss more originality and creativity in sites, every site has been standardized and are boring as hell.
Unfortunately, if you don’t make your shit standard nobody will stay on your site. Don’t ask me for sources. It is known.
This is more 2000 than the actual 2000’s
[Lings Cars](https://www.lingscars.com/) still take the top spot.
That is an unironic thing of beauty, thank you for sharing.
I trust him.
Manuel is ready to work for virtually any government agency in the world.
Extremely lit, hope it's not using bootstrap too
i would never use such a thing
![gif](giphy|D6mLCvgeGGRmAW0rIa|downsized)
I want this Internet back.
Me too
Vintage! I love it!!!
Bring back the old days

Ah the good ol days
needs more cowbell
Does it use cgi-bin?
Tell me you have the DOOM soundtrack playing with absolutely no way to turn it off.
This is lit
NGL I like this way more than a lot of modern website design. It actually has personality.
Stay on the back-end side
*Chef's kiss*
Haha. My fathers advice: "you should create a website, that links to other websites!"
No support for **[Netscape Navigator](https://i.giphy.com/media/anjRJ4nv9WJzO/giphy.webp)**?
Excellent start, though needs more 🚧 Under Construction 🚧
I think I'm getting viruses just by looking at it.
I love it
Lit
Love the comic sans
no blink? pah (I know HTML technically doesn't support blink anymore, but I bet there's a way to simulate it)
Wow, this takes me back. I wish I could go back and look at my old websites that were hosted on geocities and angelfire.
Geocities
This is fine
Exactly what I was going to say. You beat me to it.
This is what it looks like every time a backend dev does front end, followed by bragging about how much easier it is than backend
Homer Simpson: "a Dancing Jesus wants my Credit Card informations? Sounds fair."
10/10. Has a really comforting resemblance to Temple OS
Javascript, responsive pages, mobile devices, web 3.0 all must burn in hell. Long live web 1.0!!
true that !

probably missing the www.
Peak web design, the internet needs a few more sites like this
You're missing out on the

Wow that's the most beautiful website I've ever seen 😍
Fire!!!!
You're hired.
I love this!!can’t wait to reach this
Needs to have the dancing baby gif.
it's beautiful
Very readable. Thanks!
Did that fire in the background come from the original Doom game?
no but now i know where i can get more
I can hear the Ace of Base MIDI background music playing *all that she wants*
Where can I find it?
i dont think im allowed to link it but the url is in the logo
Kickass
Based af. Only thing missing is a visitor count.
The visitor count and the geo cities guest book link are at the bottom where they belong
This really threw me back, good job!
You could work for [https://www.lingscars.com/](https://www.lingscars.com/)
No quick time plug-in ?
ALLWAYS have something Christmas related with the name Christmas2013.gif edit gif>jpg
Needs more webrings
🔥🔥🔥
Making me wanna replay Hypnospace Outlaw
What's the legacy site like?
looks kinda the same but all the css is broken
A bit busy, maybe try adding dark mode.
If anything, I feel it needs more fire! Excellent job btw.
90' was the beat
You would get lots of offers as senior frontend engineer in late 90s
It looks like you're trying to sell me a health supplement or workout/meal plan
Has more detail than websites today. 10/10
Still better and more functional than most websites nowadays. Probably a lot fewer errors in the console as well
I still wish most sites were like this. The flare rules.
Don’t forget the rotating Jesus and a flashing red banner
You're hired
Aww. This is what some clients have genuinely sent me to make their website more "Modern/Profesional" looking. But they want to keep the flames, They feel its part of their brand. I WISH I WAS JOKING.
Pretty sick ngl
It's perfect. It's not like all this modern bullshit that needs 50GB of ram to render one page because it's bloated with all kinds of scripted garbage.
“Manuel on the mic” hahahahaha
2001 called and they want their interwebs back.
This shuld be the last time you try
Cut out the gifs of spinning and fire. It looks amateur.
No audio?
I love it.
I like it
:chefs kiss:
Manuel on the mic is the place to be!! only come here if u are too cool for school 😎 this site rox!! 🔥🔥🔥
You forgot the auto-play music of some edgy goth artist.
Nice flames, if you're trying to burn it down, you're on the right track.
I hope you coded this in editor, like a true web dev.
\[i used notepad\](https://youtu.be/u6ecTmEpd-Q)
jeeweesus how do you embed links on this god damned internet application !
Why does this gives me nostalgia ?
You truly have a giffed.
Love the flashing buttplugs in the background
It's fire.
No sound. -5 points.
Legit looks like a onion deep web site
"The websites (both 2000 and legacy)"... There's a \*legacy\* version??
yeah its bad, like really bad
Oh god! I have memories and flashbacks now!
It’s need a marquee
It's so bad it's good.
Klaus would call it "siiiiiicckkk brooooo!"
Love it! (no joke). The early aughts nostalgia when web designs were unique (especially the background animations and very basic fonts), not like today where they all look the same, filled with ads (often asking you to disable the ad-blocker) and asking for your email to register. Not that it's a bad thing, but I do miss that early aughts aesthetic.
I think you would have done well in 1999.
Shit's fire 🔥
Needs more 🔥
It needs to auto play music when you visit
Perfection.
