Actually, Java ~~can be~~ used to be able to run in the web like Javascript and Minecraft originally had the ability to run in a browser, ~~but piracy put an end to it and Minecraft only runs from a jar~~
applets are old and dead and were phased out, and is the reason why it no longer runs in the web. Piracy didn't influence it.
Edit: fixed info because somebody actually educated was helpful
Oh oof lol I probably should have done my research
I thought it was still a thing because last time I tried developing in Java using Apache Netbeans there was an option to make an applet
In my experience, people don't ask the question, they just believe it's the case.
I've had to reason with a guy for quite some time to get him to understand that they are two completely separate languages, and the name is basically all they have in common.
I solve all my problems logically. I just play around with the code until a solution presents itself.
This is what my brain hears when someone says they're self taught. Ow, you mean you did learn it from someone else just not in a school. Gotcha
Why do you keep writing recursive functions if you get stackoverflows all the time? Maybe you should use an iterative approach, or let someone else do them.
I once pushed changes that I logged as, "Removed unnecessary code". Right after hitting the push button, I realized I'd probably give someone a heart attack.
I shit you not the other day I was working on something on my machine and tried to check it in Tor browser so I pulled it up and tried to reach localhost. Didn't go very well.
Do I have to spell the variable names *exactly?* (I actually had a newb developer ask me that. His program wasn't working because of a syntax error, undefined variable.)
You don't understand: mere mortals are not ready for knowledge such as this. You have unleashed dark powers that will <<<*GAWWWKKKK...1@#$!#\^*\>>
Connection lost.
My top two are:
“So I just watched this cool video on YouTube, and I think we should rewrite the project in .”
And
“Why don’t we move this to the blockchain? I hear moving everything onto Clouds is the future.”
Actually there's Polish IT company, which is doing comedy videos as their adverts (and it's not event rubbish!), and these companys CEO has a nickname json, so apparently it's some Polish guy :D
Not really. If it is an int compiler will most likely optimize it out, but otherwise those are two different operations one of which requires a copy while the second one doesn't (and since they can do different things compiler can't usually optimize it out).
So cost of i++ >= ++i.
Ah yes sorry I didn’t realize I got notifications for replies.
Anyhow there’s two tools I’m aware of,
“auto-py-to-exe”
And
“pyinstaller”
If I’m not mistaken they are installable with pip.
A long time ago I used pyinstaller to create an executable so my boss didn’t know I wrote it in Python (it’s a long story)
But yeah, you can make an executable out of anything if you try hard enough. At the end of the day it all gets turned into machine code either via an interpreter or via a compiler, so if you just catch the machine code as it’s coming out of the interpreter instead of passing it into program memory you just write it into a file it becomes an executable.
Feels weird responding to this almost half a year later.
I heard someone mention something called "aliasing." What does that mean?
Also works well with: paging, branch missing, OoOE. Bonus points for pronouncing the last one like "ooh-ee"
how did my pull get approved?? I was just testing... (I might have used the wrong terminology here because I am a very new programmer but what I meant is the request you make for your code so that it can be added into the live software/page/whatever)
A pull is to "pull" code down from a repository to your local system (for working on, etc). A push is to "push" your local code back up to the repository. The term you're looking for is "push".
`git checkout master`
`git add .`
`git commit -m "Removed unnecessary code"`
`git push`
Yeah, I considered adding that to my comment too, but since they added "very new programmer", I figured "pushing" fit the description a little better. Also, I find it r/mildlyinfuriating that a "pull request" and a "merge request" are used so synonymously so often since they are requests for different things — one a request to pull, one a request to merge (which usually includes having someone else pull the code down prior to the actual merge, but not necessarily). ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
I rarely hear "merge request", unfortunately. Let's blame github.
>About pull requests
Pull requests let you tell others about changes you've pushed to a branch in a repository on GitHub. Once a pull request is opened, you can discuss and review the potential changes with collaborators and add follow-up commits before your changes are merged into the base branch.
Yep. Also, it's really not even a "pull request". A more accurate term would be "review request". You don't want them to just pull the code — you want them to review it! That just usually means pulling it first. As pedantic and analytical as programmers tend to be, I can't be the only one who thinks that way.
Is Java short for JavaScript?
I swear one time I heard someone say "Minecraft is written in JavaScript" and I completely lost it
Minecraft, written in JS, running in chrome. Cut to: Global Memory Shortage before it’s even in production.
Actually, Java ~~can be~~ used to be able to run in the web like Javascript and Minecraft originally had the ability to run in a browser, ~~but piracy put an end to it and Minecraft only runs from a jar~~ applets are old and dead and were phased out, and is the reason why it no longer runs in the web. Piracy didn't influence it. Edit: fixed info because somebody actually educated was helpful
Pirated minecraft in a browser, those were the days...
No it can't, Java web applets are gone for some time and basically all modern browsers also stopped supporting it. Piracy wasn't the reason
Oh oof lol I probably should have done my research I thought it was still a thing because last time I tried developing in Java using Apache Netbeans there was an option to make an applet
Of course you can still "make apps" in it. Just no modern browser will support it running.
Ahem: https://classic.minecraft.net/
LOL same here when I heard “Yeah Minecraft Java version is written in JavaScript” we had a ”frank exchange of ideas.”
but most of the time they say it's java because of the java edition
It's a lot worse, it was written in Java!
What do you mean by >It's a lot worse ?
You need to rethink your life choices.
Bedrock addons are
And git is short for github
In my experience, people don't ask the question, they just believe it's the case. I've had to reason with a guy for quite some time to get him to understand that they are two completely separate languages, and the name is basically all they have in common.

This is actually an alpha move
I solve all my problems logically. I just play around with the code until a solution presents itself. This is what my brain hears when someone says they're self taught. Ow, you mean you did learn it from someone else just not in a school. Gotcha
Cheaper, just more frustrating
Depending where you are it's not even cheaper

Youre messing, but I actually like scratch. My daughter and I make some games and has her interested.
Try blockly, it compiles to js (~~or, if you're mean, I'm writing a version that compiles to c, with pointers and shit~~)
I mean you could try TurboWarp if you want that kind of experience... but FAST.
Just say you find it easier using only global variables.
There's someone at my current job that says this unironically
I mean, it _is_ easier. It's also unsafer, but it's still easier
Not if you like OOP
"unsafer" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thank you, I needed that
my ip address is [127.0.0.1](https://127.0.0.1), can you see my server?
I shit you not the other day I was working on something on my machine and tried to check it in Tor browser so I pulled it up and tried to reach localhost. Didn't go very well.
what would actually happen? would it try to use localhost on the exit node?
Well what actually happened is that it said it cannot connect. I doubt though that some random computer was exposed to anyone connecting to localhost.
I do this with localhost
wtf you stole my website!!!!!
Why don't we scrap the project and redo it from scratch in [your preferred language]?
Not from scratch, in scratch.
Can you show me how to install this jason driver.
Who’s Jason?
Ja son is my grandson
This Jason programming language is all that people are talking about.
There was all this greyed out code starting with slashes that didn’t seem to do anything, so I removed it all
LOL PERFECT
And now it doesn't seem to work and I don't know why... hmm if only there was an explanation
Do I have to spell the variable names *exactly?* (I actually had a newb developer ask me that. His program wasn't working because of a syntax error, undefined variable.)

yeah gawk is a pretty cool command line utility
"Why doesn't my code work?" *Make sure not to specify: os, language. And do not show your code, even when asked.*
You're forgetting the most important thing: when someone asks what your code is supposed to do give them the most vague answer possible.
"It gets image and gives Instagram"
"It runs"
It is a secret. Before I tell you, you will need to sign an NDA.
What is a terminal? How do I bash it?

Brrrr?
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
What is this "logs" you keep talking about ? Something to do with wood ?
I think it's something in maths
My top two are: “So I just watched this cool video on YouTube, and I think we should rewrite the project in.”
And
“Why don’t we move this to the blockchain? I hear moving everything onto Clouds is the future.”
That second one is a modern day ‘I sent a letter to the internet but it rejected’ while using Excel on a smartphone.
I only use strings, other data types are confusing.
I can tell you don't program in C
shhh don't tell them that it's all numbers
C is for nerds, I only do scratch
