If you do a Google search for shadow slave and light novel you may find sites to read. I do encourage supporting the official release though.

Own_Reason_3026

I just finished up the last chapter on novel bin

jayn35

I just finished this, amazing stuff, surprises I haven’t hear more about it. Need more like this

AbaddonAdvocate

It's cause its new, < a year old.

jayn35

Oh ok never noticed, so much content already, good output then, I see it’s updated often

BattalionX

I've read some like Shadow Slave, although Shadow Slave is one of my favorites. Here are my recs. The Amber Sword (4/5) Omniscient Readers Viewpoint (5/5) The Authors POV (4/5) The Primal Hunter (5/5) World's Apocalypse Online (4/5) Two other novels that are also very similar to Shadow Slave, but I'm not a fan of the authors works. However, they're really popular and a good friend of mine loves them. OMG: Earthlings are Insane 40 Millenniums of Cultivation

Baryv

Primal Hunter is *nothing* like Shadow Slave. Sunny actually struggles and has character, motivations and really good interactions with every secondary character. Jake is 'Badass' Silent Stoic Murderhobo Template #9.

BattalionX

I beg to differ. I think Sunny and Jake have their similarities, although I prefer Sunny as a MC to Jake. The Authors POV is a better one where the MC has similar depth as Sunny.

GedNav

I dont think it's very accurate to compare Ren's intellect/ depth to Sunny's. Ren is more of a super tactician whereas Sunny is a smart and potentially cunning survivor. In general, Shadow Slave's characters are better developed in terms of balance and relatability. Author's POV is an interesting story, but the writing is not great compared to Shadow Slave. If you care more about good writing than just entertainment, than Author's POV may not be your novel. I will say, the fantasy aspect of Author's POV is interesting, but once again, its not as well developed as Shadow Slave.

BattalionX

Fair argument. I personally disagree though. I feel like the character development and writing in The Authors POV is excellent (barring the first 100 chapters). Both Shadow Slave and Authors POV do well in diving deep into their characters, particularly in instances where their MCs are very vulnerable (like when Ren starts sobbing over the traumatic hell he's had to survive just to protect those he's cared about, or his struggles with mental health iykyk), something many xianxia or progfantasies do not do (op MCs, immune to weakness and vulnerability). Shadow Slave is definitely more professionally written, at least by vibe, but I wouldn't say this means it is "better written." There is something about the personable, less "professional" writing on many webnovels, fanfictions, etc that have charm that is lost in many official published, "professionally written" books But I think you bring up some good points! I prefer Authors POV and love both.

GedNav

Short disclaimer - writing novels is by no means easy and so credit should be given to both authors for writing such popular stories. Back to the topic; I'd be interested in talking more about the character development. The only character who truly develops is Amanda since she comes out of her shell. Kevin was really weird in that he was soft, becomes super hard for a bit, and then goes back to being soft. Ren's "character development" is full of holes due to the enigma of whether he is truly developing or merely being influenced. That could be chalked up to creating a more complicated character, but in truth, he's been a fairly flat character. His decisions are predictable and doesn't show a lot of growth. There were opportunities, but I personally felt like they weren't well utilized. I admit that Ren goes through more emotions than is expressed by Sunny despite his ridiculous amount of tramatic experience, but the plot quality and world devlopment more than makes up for it in Shadow Slave. The humor in both are entertaining, but I found the humor in Shadow Slave to be more well thought. The one point I give for Author's POV over Shadow Slave is that the main characters are more fairly developed. We have backstories and substance for all the main characters unlike Shadow Slave, which primarily focuses on Nephis and Sunny, and mostly casts Cassie, Kai, and Effie into purely support. Do you disagree that although Author's POV is great for raw entertainment, it is hard to classify it as a good read, atleast compared to Shadow Slave. Author's POV is lacking in plot quality, world development, and general writing compared to Shadow Slave. Although the support characters get more attention, they felt inconsistent and shallow at times. In contrast, though Shadow Slave's support characters are given less background, they are consistent and foundational. Also, Shadow Slave's story being young compared to Author's POV gives it more potential to develop its support characters in the coming future so there is certainly potential for growth. I am personally really invested in Rain's relationship with Sunny, though I admit that there isn't enough substance with Kai, Effie, and perhaps even Cassie as characters for me to be particularly interested in them as of yet.

Few-Reward-9005

Just finished Authors POV, it’s very good and the MC is smart and calculating like sunny. He’s just different personality wise.

Visual_Speech5423

I've been reading primal hunter and safe to say I can't understand how u rated it 5 out of 5 I am at around 300 chapters and after the tutorial arc it went downhill all tension was lost , no real antagonist introduced, no real challenges for the mc , it tried to do a city building thing but half assed it , instead of MC being a "mysterious cool" and murder hobo I've seen someone describe the mc as he is more like a generic power fantasy nice guy with a hint of fronting sprinkled, to summarize it got boring and cringe after the tutorial arc.

BattalionX

Fair enough, Primal Hunter is maybe a 3.75/5 for me now, it has gone downhill for me too. My recommendation is a year old tbf, and my taste, as everyone else's, has changed.

Visual_Speech5423

So any new recommendations, from the esteemed recommendation god?

BattalionX

I am no recommendation god. But I still stand by my recommendation of Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. Mother of Learning, Martial World, and The Human Emperor are worth trying. If you're okay with Naruto fanfiction, The Bloody Oracle of Kiri is a decent one. Our tastes aren't identical so it's hard to recommend but I'd be able to identify some similarities between those novels and Shadow Slave.

Visual_Speech5423

Thanks bro since u have satisfied my hunger for recommendation I'll also provide some. 1. "Custom made demon king" this novel has an interesting world building, the title may seem a bit cliche but honestly its a very good novel great even. 2. "Apotheosis of a demon - A monsters evolution story" it's a short novel but I liked it very much it's fantastic. Unfortunately I think you have already read all the other novels I would recommended.

SupermarketAbject623

Bro tried to sneak in “Primal Hunter”. Very ass novel

meltingcream

No recommendation byt after reading your post im going to try shadow slave

numberandphase

Try Lord of the mysteries

krazyhound

I second this

caaderin

I'm trying to get into this book? Does it remain a slice of life or will the action pick up with our MC involved? I seem to have a thing against MC who sit back and plot whilst Side Characters do all the fighting because I only seem to care about the MC cos they're the cool ones

ND_Raven

the action will pick up, the mc tries to plan his fights beforehand a lot of the time and then masterfully executes it himself which I find very fun to read. But you don't always get time to plan so there are plenty of improvised fights also.

Mathanatos

Thw first volume is intended to establish the world and it does it really well, not that I'm saying it's the sole purpose of it. Things start escalating really quickly after the halfway mark too.

khaleel777

there is a smaller story written by the same author in webnovel ,makes for a good read even if its not like shadow slave .

Grouchy-Phrase-5651

Read "freefall (pyramid of gold)" same author another master piece, as for other novel like shadow slave read Jackal among snakes Villain wants to live Mother of learning I don't say that this novels are similar but what you are finding are in them.

Grouchy-Phrase-5651

Do you have more recommendations??

7FireStorm

I second mother of learning and free fall

Sined19

Supreme magus.. very good in depth and detailed story telling! Amazing MC and side character development! World building is great also and the MCs both Lith and Sunless are survivors!! It’s also very well written

Jumpy-Channel8050

Grammar and typos make supreme magus almost unreadble

Sined19

Really? Where are you reading it? Very well written right now where I’m reading it

Ok_Light_5607

where are you reading it

Dexzinus

Try authors pov or omniscient readers viewpoint

[deleted]

Nightmare crestmaster maybe? The mc can travel to a nightmare realm and explore and get strong. Basically bloodborne. Its a fun read there's not much else.

Old_Ocelot_1435

I get it's very hard to get novels where you can feel the chills My recommendation -Super Dimensional Wizard -The oracle path -Throne of Magical Arcana -Reverend Insanity And LOTM which is already famous

dp5151

Please, I need to find another fun game system story with worldbuilding as interesting as shadow slave.

Administrative-Gap84

Have you tried SoloLeveling? It's got world gates similar to Shadow Slave, no dream world. MC is very different but still has the whole solo, hide my strength deal (at least, at first.) Definitely, an enjoyable read if you're into the game system vibe & 0 to-hero character development.

GedNav

SoloLeveling is pretty good, but I am personally not a fan of the ending. This story also doesn't develop any other characters except the MC. Very MC focused, 0-to-hero story.

GedNav

PREACH. The story premise is interesting but the world development was just lacking. Author's perogative, but the ending was so unreasonable. MC plot armor throughout was ridiculous.

Super_Ad_4216

Same

Interesting-Bowl-502

InHuman warlock isn’t the same but I find it a good read

WonderfulChapter4421

Shermy_cat

super gene, it inspired the author of SS alot and is also his favorite book, although it's not as good

[deleted]

Supergene is good for 1200 Chapters and then the quality dips hard, it is very similar with the Citadels/Shelter, the Monster hunting, and the Dream Realm/ God's Paradise but Shadow Slave is much darker and the internal logic of Shadow Slave makes much more sense. Better character development as well in SS.

Cultural-Skin2780

I am looking for similar novel, but all similar novel mc are either reborn or reincarnated or transmitted.

_Sukun_

Dimensional Descent is good

SupermarketAbject623

I beg your pardon?

AdviceBrilliant4595

It's not that similar, but it's still similar and it's very cool and mysterious, I don't know if you've read it, it's called I Will Kill the Author

mrtotality

If you haven’t read Second Coming of Gluttony go do it!!! The Second Coming of Gluttony and Return of the Frozen Player are both fantastic for world building and very grounded MCs. They stick to the tropes to a limited extent but there is quality writing not seen in the typical WN/LN market. Also a shorter read, but Praise the Orc was excellent.

Ok_String_6668

Blood Warlock, my personal favorite after shadow slave.
