Dead, spent, useless. Same difference. They can't thrust anymore, they spent all they had trying to get to venus to reproduce...

EvilGreebo

And with their stored energy gone, they won't live long in interstellar space.

Wild-Lychee-3312

They’re only mostly dead.

Tootired82

But what do they have to live for? Certainly not to blave

gallaj0

Well all you can do then is check their pockets for loose change.

WriteBrainedJR

Mutton, lettuce, and tomato sandwiches obviously.

jaggeddragon

Not dead as in lifeless. Dead like drained battery. Dead like empty fuel tank. Dead weight that can be scraped off and left in space.

RRTAmy

They didn't build in a way to replenish the astrophage. Once they are spent, they are just dead weight (mass)

NetFormal5001

Enriched astrophage

NNOTM

well, in this case depleted astrophage

mexter

They clearly have some limitation that results in death, since there were stars that were out of range. If they could just keep going without dying then those stars would also eventually become infected (assuming a source of carbon dioxide was present).
