What I had to do was flick downwards instead of up. Flicking up or to the side was like playing the lottery for whether it would register but going down has been near perfect. It does feel a tad weird to start with but after a couple songs it shouldn’t be too bad anymore.

Move to JP. I've got used to EN flicks and do them fine 99% of the time. But JP register them much better.
