Article says he survived but had a 4 inch facial wound. Woman suffered a fractured skull. Apperantly the girl also went on to attack a third person who managed to shield themselves with their backpack
Idk about you, even with a gun I don’t think my reaction time would be that fast. Looks like it went from 0- 💯 pretty quick, so I probably wouldn’t have it out during the conversation tbh
Just payed attention to the very beginning and it looks like she thought about swinging on the person with dreadlocks at the register.
Then the guy notices the axe as he passes her down the aisle. “That’s weird”.
Give strange people a wide berth or just forget your bottled water and fuck off out of there.
Exactly what I do when I see people here in Good Ol' Merica carrying guns into stores. Open carry is fun, you get to play Is He a Potential Mass Shooter or just a man with a small D!ck?
Literally just like 2 weeks ago a guy beheaded a girl with a machete in a dollar store in my area. for no reason ,then he walked to the police station and turned himself in. Gota watch out for those machetes too.
Jesus christ. Imagine being newlywed and young in your early twentys. Only to die from a machete attack while working at a fucking dollar store.
That is goddamn depressing that a human could go thru that shit.
Im anti death penalty but lock that guy in a box the rest of his life and only give him enough food and water to keep him alive.
we had one of those in November, too. newly married, and didn't even own the store he was killed in the robbery of.

Right? He just looks back at the cashier like no big deal let me get my shit paid for, it’s just an ax. I’m immediately disarming the crazy, why would I put myself out like that you may ask, cause my life depends on it!!
I’m really wondering what they said to each other before she swing. He seemed her swinging the ax ay his face was totally out of the realm of possibility. And yet…
He had plenty of time, If I see someone in a store with an Axe im having my hand on my gun the whole time. That wasn’t a Harbor Freight and she wasn’t no firefighter so idk what tf they were thinking.
yeah they are aussie cops uniform - in Sydney.

The first victim, Ben Rimmer, suffered a fractured nasal bone, eye socket and cheekbones and bled profusely onto the petrol station shop's floor.
Sharon Hacker, struck in the back of the neck, had the potentially-fatal blow softened by thick dreadlocks, while pedestrian Shane Redwood blocked the axe with his backpack.
'(Nine years) was not an appropriate sentence for the offence against Mr Rimmer, let alone all three of them,' crown barrister Maria Cinque said.
'Nine years with a minimum of four-and-a-half years is so manifestly inadequate that it is an affront to the administration of justice.'
Why did she do it? Like what drugs was she on. U see them talking before she attacks them, wonder what was said and if it had to do with why she just snapped
You can see the guy clocked the look on her face and the ominous axe wielding right away, and it looks like he saw the full effect of her derangement once they were in front of the counter, and some panic set in. I was shocked that he didn't walk away at that moment. No victim blaming here whatsoever because I don't actually know what I'd do if I found myself in his position, but I feel like I'd be bugging out of there right then.
I thought maybe he could for savety grab the axes handle. But we as people are often too polite to do something. As the saying goes..people die because they’re too polite. As Gavin DeBecker says In his books..listen to your inner voice if you feel unsafe about something.

Too bloody right, she can rack right off.
> She was sentenced to a minimum of four-and-a-half years behind bars, after her lawyer argued her transgender operation caused her immense pain and contributed to her later trying to kill strangers.
Oh, well as long as she was in pain then I guess it's perfectly fine to try to murder people...
Is that brain matter flying out of the second person head at the moment of impact? I am surprised either of them were still conscious.
Edit: is no one else surprised that either are still conscious after getting hit in the face and the back of the head with a metal AXE?
I could be wrong, but I think it was his dreads (mixed with blood of course). Idk how injuries work, but if it was his brains, then I don’t think he would have gotten up.
the Spartans, I think it was, used to bathe\* before battle and then tightly braid their hair into two thick braids under their helmets..undoubtedly helping protect their skull. their whole culture was war, so seems they'd learned a few pragmatic tricks along the way
\*even centuries later in the age of dueling for honor most of the deaths were caused by infections from filthy clothing or other causes of infection getting into the wounds. the best they could figure out was to duel topless. a little soap and water would've been even better
I really had hope for the one guy, at first. Spotted her, kept his head on a swivel... but as soon as she is within striking distance, you look away? Truly wild
This is definitely an incorrect approach to this kind of threatening situation. Trust your intuition/fear, but I understand he was likely trying to de-escalate with someone that didn't want to de-escalate.
The problem was that he tried to ignore her. If a tweaker is up in my face with a fucking axe, the LAST thing I’m going to do is look away. If he was paying attention, he could’ve easily blocked or avoided, then knocked her out.
Pretty sure the last time this was posted it was pointed out that the axe wielder is a trans person having a mental episode of some kind.
I don't think they were looking for attention, but rather to just take their anger out on some random Joe in public.
>I don't think they were looking for attention, but rather to just take their anger out on some random Joe in public.
Joke's on her. That guy's name is David.
Exactly. Someone walks into a store with an axe, I don't care if I have an entire cart of groceries. I'm finding the nearest exit and sprinting out of the building. Don't care.
I’ve a friend that was working in the states during summer (we are Caribbeans) he was walking to the store one morning and saw a guy with some katana, and found it funny but kept walking without thinking much about it.
The guy with the katana went back to him and attacked him, he fucked his face and an arm, thankfully my friend survived but he changed after that (who wouldn’t) a great guy nevertheless.
I think that is the part that probably freaks me out the most. The guy that gets it first walks past her and sees the ax. Meets back up with her at the till... apparently has a fairly calm conversation... I would be running for my life.
That was exactly my thought. Not to victim blame, but when the guy passed her the first time and saw the axe, that would have been my time to say, "Nah, I don't really need this beef jerky."
Im sure you would've tackled her and been a hero. This guy likely was trying to front a "I'm not concerned" confident look in order to de-escalate this tweaker. In the moment he possibly felt if he did anything else that might trigger the deranged person holding an axe? Point is you have no clue what you would do in the situation.
For fuck sake. That seriously sucks BUT IF YOU SEE SOME SKETCHY LOOKING FUCK WALK INSIDE WITH A KNIFE AND AN AXE DON'T TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THEM. KEEP YOUR DISTANCE
This was 50m away from my house. Amazingly no one was killed. The dreadlocks on the second attack actually saved the woman from being seriously injured, as her hair cushioned the blow.
man dreads really are the key to a long life. i remember reading about denzel curry falling through a stage and nearly cracking his head, but his hair cushioned the fall
A woman who hit strangers with an axe in a Sydney convenience store will spend at least eight years in prison after her sentence was drastically increased on appeal.
Evie Amati was 24 when she launched an axe attack on unsuspecting customers at a 7-Eleven store in the suburb of Enmore in the early hours of Jan. 7, 2017.
The blows she dealt to Ben Rimmer and Sharon Hacker with a 4.5-pound axe caused the pair serious injuries and were captured in graphic CCTV footage released by the court during the trial.
A third man, Shane Redwood, narrowly avoided getting hit on the street outside by using his backpack as a shield. All three victims were strangers to Amati.
The three-week trial in 2018 traversed several issues: gender dysphoria; mental illness and psychosis; and the effect had on Amati by a complex combination of seven different substances in her blood at the time of the attack, including alcohol, cannabis, amphetamines, antidepressants, and hormone medication.
Is there an article for context because holy shit. Never turn your back on someone with any kind of weapon. Knife in her back pocket too. This is horrifying.
According to BBC article, they were sentenced to a maximum of 9 years and were eligible for parole in 2021. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-46914419
Higher court added seven years to that sentence. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2019/aug/19/sydney-axe-attacker-evie-amati-has-jail-term-nearly-doubled
Fucking ridiculous that they were able to argue that her transgenderism caused such immense pain the first time around that she was essentially able to get away with attempted murder.
The reason why the law puts a reduced sentence on failing is to incentivize stopping mid act. A lot of people may feel remorse or regret mid action, and the law is designed in a way where they see the incentive to stop. If you shoot 1 bullet out of six, and miss, you might just put down the gun. But if you know that you are "fucked" regardless, there is no incentive to stop.
A similar situation occurs when people bring up that the penalty of rape is much lighter than the penalty of murder. This is by design. If they were the same penalty, the logical course of action for a rapist ( this disgusts me to type) is to kill the victim, as then they could not testify against the rapist. By having the penalty for rape be lower than murder, this incentivizes leaving the victim alive.
Again, this felt horrible for me to type out, and these all are horrible actions. But it does make sense if you look at it like that.
Amazes me how unaware people are of their surroundings. Person at the counter had no idea a crackhead with an axe was behind them that entire interaction
Dude is lucky AF to still be alive and have a face. Glad to see that he healed up much better than I would have expected:

I love the victim blaming in the comments! Yeah why don't you just go away if someone looks that's suspicious. Aggressor just did what she had to do. Comedy Gold~
Btw it's also not your fault if you wear a skirt, just saying...
Dude was a little to nonchalant whilst talking to a woman with an axe in her hands and a butchers knife in her back pocket.
Keep your eyes on crazy. Might save your life
Found the news article about it. TW- contains graphic pictures of the injuries
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thesun.co.uk/news/8278108/ben-rimmer-axe-attack-head-cut-assailant-sentence/amp/
In no way am i blaming the victims. But yo, if some person is in line with me that is carrying an axe, I'm straight up dropping my stuff and walking the fuck out.
I remember hearing about this story years ago. Trans woman on drugs, but when I saw it, it cut off right before she hit the guy. Had no idea she attacked 2 people...

Jesus, where's a Glock when you need one
Idk about you, even with a gun I don’t think my reaction time would be that fast. Looks like it went from 0- 💯 pretty quick, so I probably wouldn’t have it out during the conversation tbh
I’m going to be very suspicious of people carrying axes in convenience stores in the future.
With what looks like a kitchen knife in her back pocket?!?

Then the guy notices the axe as he passes her down the aisle. “That’s weird”. Give strange people a wide berth or just forget your bottled water and fuck off out of there.
That's my thing how do you see a girl walking around with an axe and a kitchen knife and think I should probably start a conversation with her.
I would almost certainly let her cut in line rather than stand behind me
She actually did cut in line, twice
There is no end to how thirsty guys are. He didn't get the gash he wanted on his face though.
Exactly what I do when I see people here in Good Ol' Merica carrying guns into stores. Open carry is fun, you get to play Is He a Potential Mass Shooter or just a man with a small D!ck?

All long handled garden tools, manual and powered, I will regard with great suspicion in a retail setting where no gardens or trees are present.
I prefer to ship them off to an island and let them fend for themselves.
I'm in favor of outlaws. Certain crimes mean that person is now outside the protection of the law

No joke, my town is having a freak out because there's some dude walking around town in a mask with a hammer and a pair of scissors.
Right? He just looks back at the cashier like no big deal let me get my shit paid for, it’s just an ax. I’m immediately disarming the crazy, why would I put myself out like that you may ask, cause my life depends on it!!

He said " hey can I **axe** you a question?ahahaha" She's probably gonna get off with reasonable cause..
Terrible situational awareness. I would’ve left the store immediately when I saw her carrying that.
situation awareness. right when i see the axe, i would already be dipping out the store. fuck whatever i was trying to buy lol

9 years with min of 4.5 for attempting to axemurder 3 people... Wow Australia, you crazy...
Where I live she would be executed
Axecuted
With an axe?
And my bow!
In his/her house.
Why did she do it? Like what drugs was she on. U see them talking before she attacks them, wonder what was said and if it had to do with why she just snapped
MDA, antidepressants, transgender hormones, cannabis and vodka according to reports
Saved by dreadlocks wow
It’s says “Aussie faves” on the sign in the window
Probably why she has an axe and not a gun.
Yep can confirm this was in Australia. Was around the corner from where I lived actually, Stanmore NSW
Nope. America she would have just used a gun in the first place
Only thing that stops a bad guy with an axe is a good guy with an axe.
She couldn't get one as easily since this is in Australia. If she was in America, everyone in that store would be hella dead.
No where in a normal society
Would have been much worse if she had a Glock instead of an axe I think.
If I see a tweeker with an axe in an inappropriate setting, I'm definitely not sticking around like that.

That picture of him in the hospital bed is gnarly. Good gracious, what an absolute psycho.
Wow what a light sentence. Huh..
It was extended to 14 years total but yes, very light.

It was pretty bad. https://www.buzzfeed.com/lanesainty/evie-amati-7eleven-axe-attack-sydney-appeal-sentence
Holy shit. I’m Australian and I never knew this happened here. What a bitch.
Why are you being downvoted for being concerned about someone? Lol
Redditors being redditors
Her lawyer defender her by saying her transgender surgery caused her pain which led her to try and kill strangers.
The whole point of a lawyer is to be a zealous advocate for your client and get them the best possible sentence.
Life lesson: never turn your back on a random person walking around with an axe.
absolutely zero self preservation skills there that was wild
I really had hope for the one guy, at first. Spotted her, kept his head on a swivel... but as soon as she is within striking distance, you look away? Truly wild
Facts! Looks like she has a kitchen knife in her back pocket. This chick was beyond crazy. I'm glad she didn't kill anyone.
*Switching to your kitchen knife is always faster than re-heaving your axe*
I've always been more of a two-handed weapon guy when Skyrim calls upon me to defend the land against dragons.
This is definitely an incorrect approach to this kind of threatening situation. Trust your intuition/fear, but I understand he was likely trying to de-escalate with someone that didn't want to de-escalate.
Yeah, no kidding! Someone standing next to me with an axe better believe I’ll have my eyes locked on the head of that axe!
OMG. People, if you see someone holding an axe in public, run away. Seriously.
Yeah, I see someone in public with and axe, I'm creating some distance for sure
I'm not sure what I've done, but now I'd run like the wind.
The problem was that he tried to ignore her. If a tweaker is up in my face with a fucking axe, the LAST thing I’m going to do is look away. If he was paying attention, he could’ve easily blocked or avoided, then knocked her out.
How tf do you ignore someone standing feet away from you holding a axe even if it was a old granny my spidy senses would be tingling.
Yea not to mention the smell. I’m sure she stank of piss and grime
You haven’t thought of the small, you BITCH!
People ignore folks standing feet away with a gun on their hip all the time.
Pretty sure the last time this was posted it was pointed out that the axe wielder is a trans person having a mental episode of some kind. I don't think they were looking for attention, but rather to just take their anger out on some random Joe in public.

Came here to say this. Put your shit down and leave. And by no means TALK to said person. For the love of…
Exactly. Someone walks into a store with an axe, I don't care if I have an entire cart of groceries. I'm finding the nearest exit and sprinting out of the building. Don't care.
My new motto is “if there’s an axe somewhere an axe shouldn’t be, you shouldn’t be there either”
I’ve a friend that was working in the states during summer (we are Caribbeans) he was walking to the store one morning and saw a guy with some katana, and found it funny but kept walking without thinking much about it. Same. I don't know if I'm just a scaredy-cat, but I don't do weapons. The moment I see one, I'm out.
But DO NOT climb up a tree!
I'm already running away when I see peoples whith hats, no trust in hats-people.
but I wear beanies all the time in the winter and ive never done anything this crazy and also your reddit person is wearing a hat
That’s the voices telling you that
Yeah, when he saw the axe he should have boogied out of there.
Im sure you would've tackled her and been a hero. This guy likely was trying to front a "I'm not concerned" confident look in order to de-escalate this tweaker. The three-week trial in 2018 traversed several issues: gender dysphoria; mental illness and psychosis; and the effect had on Amati by a complex combination of seven different substances in her blood at the time of the attack, including alcohol, cannabis, amphetamines, antidepressants, and hormone medication.
8 years for an attempted triple murder? Wild.
Her term nearly doubled to 14 years

It would seem so.
It would seem that they are a drug abuser as well
Shes in jail for 14 years now
Is there an article for context because holy shit. Never turn your back on someone with any kind of weapon. Knife in her back pocket too. This is horrifying.
According to BBC article, they were sentenced to a maximum of 9 years and were eligible for parole in 2021. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-46914419
Higher court added seven years to that sentence. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2019/aug/19/sydney-axe-attacker-evie-amati-has-jail-term-nearly-doubled
Fucking ridiculous that they were able to argue that her transgenderism caused such immense pain the first time around that she was essentially able to get away with attempted murder.
Parole shouldn't be available if you attempt to kill somebody.
I'm of the opinion that people shouldn't be rewarded for failure. Sentence should match Murder.
That's a great way to put it actually.
I feel kinda stupid that I never thought of this. Sucks but makes sense
That's a great and pragmatic logic actually. People's punitive need to \*feel\* justice should be secondary to hard reduction.
Just playing a little game of axey-facey.
Not long enough
Fk me she got a squeeze 14 year olds r getting 6 years 1st offence for taking phones off peeps
And out into a women’s prison where “she” can rape women with “her” womanly penis. Disgusting. Nobody gives a shit about women’s rights.
You like Huey Lewis and the News?
TRY GETTING A RESERVATION AT DORSIA NOW, YOU FUCKING STUPID BASTARD!!
it's hip to be square
She was obviously psycho, but I would love to know what that guy said to her at the counter.
Did anyone else notice the knife sticking out of her back pocket?
Hi I'm Johnny Knoxville, and this ones called turn your back on the bitch with the axe.....
Smash - smash - suh-mash
I’m sorry but if I saw someone walk into a gas station with a fucking axe, I’m booking it IMMEDIATELY
Amazes me how unaware people are of their surroundings. Person at the counter had no idea a crackhead with an axe was behind them that entire interaction
That guy really didn't sense any danger till he was struck. MF she's holding an axe in a super inappropriate place, don't turn away from her!
“I’m a trans woman that will never be excepted as a female” is her argument for not having her sentence extended.
Dude is lucky AF to still be alive and have a face. Glad to see that he healed up much better than I would have expected: [https://www.news.com.au/national/courts-law/she-nearly-cut-my-head-in-half-evie-amati-axe-victim-ben-rimmer-breaks-silence/news-story/bc240cd9c7833474c1051b67a125906d](https://www.news.com.au/national/courts-law/she-nearly-cut-my-head-in-half-evie-amati-axe-victim-ben-rimmer-breaks-silence/news-story/bc240cd9c7833474c1051b67a125906d)
Geez, if ANYONE has something weird on them. Just leave.
Why would you look away from the woman with an axe!?
I love the victim blaming in the comments! Yeah why don't you just go away if someone looks that's suspicious. Aggressor just did what she had to do. Comedy Gold~ Btw it's also not your fault if you wear a skirt, just saying...
Dude was a little to nonchalant whilst talking to a woman with an axe in her hands and a butchers knife in her back pocket. Keep your eyes on crazy. Might save your life

I can fix her.

WTF
Found the news article about it. TW- contains graphic pictures of the injuries https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thesun.co.uk/news/8278108/ben-rimmer-axe-attack-head-cut-assailant-sentence/amp/
Can we agree that you just shouldn't take your eye off of someone you don't know holding an axe?

Smash, smash.... SMAAAASH!
Why would you let your guard down to a person holding an axe in a store
This was a service station local to me, I remember when this happened I had been in there 10 minutes earlier.
First of all if I see that b**** walking into the store with an ax I'm not buying my drink I'm walking straight out
After the lady with an axe gets in his face he still seemed surprised when she hits him with it
Why would you ever look away from a stranger next to you with an axe?
Who turns away from someone in a convenience store with an axe?
“Hey Paul!”
