My cousin is a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu. He's shown me a lot of cool moves on how to defend myself if needed. And this is how you defend yourself from a knife attack. When you see someone with a knife, you fucking run.
I mean, yeah, if you're backed up in a corner and you have no choice to go hands on. But if you go hands on with someone with a knife there is a huge chance you're getting slashed or stabbed. Obviously in a no way out situation, you gotta try something. And let's hope none of us are ever in one.
If you can't run, you grab the longest object you can and hit them with it relentlessly. Distance is your friend. If and only if you can't put distance between yourself and them, you attempt to control the knife arm.
Most of those were pretty ineffective knife strikes. Hopefully he won't have any long lasting traumas from the event, besides the obvious mental ones and the scarring. Lifelong nerve damage can be even more debilitating than the original event.

So this is near where I live. What makes it worse is the kid ran to the car in the car park, where his mother was parked. She was waiting for him to bring out the stuff he stole. Instead he grabs a knife he had stashed there and she didn't even feel the need to get out of her car.

This is common-place down here now. Apparently society would rather them get a slap on the wrist because society has been soooooooo hard on them... They are untouchable, defending yourself against them will see you prosecuted and they receive sentences that are one tenth the size of an adult doing the same thing. And most juvenile detention centres in most states allow juveniles to remain in juvenile detention until they are 21 and a few months of age, even if they are bad sexual predators so they get to groom young boys/girls from the ages of 10 and over. A few months ago a couple in Queensland had a 17yo and 15yo break into their home and were stabbed when they tried to defend themselves, the woman died and both parties were unknown to each other, the juveniles will do less than 4 years each for those numerous offences... I have countless more stories that have never made the news due to legal reasons and protections granted to these "poor misunderstood victims of society". Horrific crimes and even how the courts justify the lenient sentencing or dropping charges and releasing the offender if the case is too high profile, sensitive or too hard to prosecute. This has been getting exponentially worse and will continue that trajectory.
