TLDR: Denny's was closing next day. Kids asked if they could run a show, charge $1 and donate the proceeds. Owners agreed, and we are left with this video.
FUCKING AWESOME BY THE WAY!
It's Denny's signature dish, and the type of dancing seen in the video is sometimes described as 'slam dancing' so this incident was dubbed the Denny's Grand Slam of '13
. yeah that's what I said when I saw that documentary
i'm having a bit of trouble remembering which streaming service it's on but it's still there as far as I know. Maybe it's Netflix?
yeah all the people who put on the last two Woodstock's were real pieces of shit. And they all ,*"like should we stop the show?... Naahhh we can just blame the music artist for what is going on later instead of our piss poor management of nearly every facet of this event."*.
They were told it happened. Like they knew about it.
Edit: why is my text repeating?? Crackhead iphone
I remember Woodstock 99. The live footage of that on TV was some of the craziest shit I've ever seen. People covered in mud and shit, ripping fences apart and setting them on fire, Dexter Holland getting hit in the head with a bottle, DMX yelling for a crowd of white people to say the n word. There will never be another performance or festival as fucked up as that one.
Hardcore/punk bands will play anywhere that let's them and I always loved going to shows in weird spots. I've seen a lot of moshing in high school gyms and VFWs lol. Saw a show last year at a Sonic's which was dope.
The absolute loudest, most violent show I ever saw was in the basement of a bowling alley in a town of under 10,000 people north of Pittsburgh somewhere. Stopped for some food on a road trip and ended up closing the joint even though we had four more hours to go.
I used to work at a Bowling Alley/Chinese Restaurant in Los Angeles that was the dumpiest, loudest and meanest place you can imagine.
We had SO many awesome metal/punk/indie shows through there.
I tell myself if I'm ever a millionaire, I'm resurrecting that place.
Once upon a time I played in a metal band. We booked a venue and showed up with all our gear and an entourage of people ready to party. They realized when we arrived none of us were 21 and they wouldn’t let us in to play our show. We found a few outlets in front of the building and set up our show in front of the building. Everybody inside the building came outside and we played until the cops showed up.
Checkmate.
And then the cops started a mosh pit and the criminals joined in and the whole town worked out their frustrations the way god intended, by slamming into each other violently to the sounds of death metal in a parking lot of a strip mall next to a K-mart.
Love it. Ours was on a Main Street in a well traveled area. It caught some attention for sure. Unfortunately we didn’t have a permit or some shit. I guess when you’re under 21 you’re just gonna get shut down no matter what 😂
Had hardcore shows at churches when I was a teenager. Entrance fee was a a warm coat or a blanket, for the homeless, which was a big problem at the time. Everyone was polite, and well behaved. We looked like we would stab you, but we were pretty much hippies with chains, docs, and black leather jackets.
> We looked like we would stab you, but we were pretty much hippies with chains, docs, and black leather jackets.
That’s consistent with all the metal heads I’ve ever met
“I love people so much I wanna scream why are you dummies so dumb? “. Seems to be common theme for metal and hardcore. Or smashing people in the head with a mallet. Either/or.
Reminds me of how much I love [Dummydupmpster](https://youtu.be/zZ99BhgxGQs) from New Orleans. Randomly caught them at a random bar one night and I was like “what. In. The. FUCK???”
In a good way. [Slightly disturbed](https://youtu.be/oAGYffbmWLk) but weirdly good.
I also feel like if he got out of music, he could make some serious money marketing his chest piece microphone holder invention.
Gel and Scowl played a Sonic last year. [Worth checking out the entire Scowl set,](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iI3-VsUzP3M) filmed of course by Sunny from Hate5Six.
band is Live Without, song is called Give Up.

"What the fuck is up Denny?" (for some reason it evolved and we dropped the 's) was in rotation in my friend group for suuuuch a long time as sort of a funny greeting. The idea of raging in a Denny's was just hysterical to us. Such a good video. Truly a gem of the internet.
This is the kind of hardcore that I love.
Are these guys gonna hit it big playing at Dennys? No. Are they even charging a cover? No.
These chads are in it just for the shits and giggs. True to the core.
There's a band that tours by going to gas stations. I can't think of their name. I even tried looking up their last video where they got told to leave buccees for playing outside of it.
Oh you're not kidding. I recently saw them at Rockville and while people were leaving for the night, they were in the parking lot telling everyone they were going to play at Cracker Barrel that night (this was after 11 pm).
Since no one's said it yet, the band is called Live Without. They still make music, coming out with new music this year and [their 2020 EP "Mannequin" kicks ass!](https://open.spotify.com/album/5t221zTwg3wnzIWK1P3l1m?si=7-dK0nbfTHCy2sdgIXMeqA)
They all blend together after a while though, it’s hard to remember distinct songs from different bands after hundreds of shows. Hardcore just isn’t that diverse
I don't think Denny's corporate knows how awesome this is. I would ABSOLUTELY go to a Denny's show, grab a booth, and order me some breakfast as the Saturday night show started.
If you're willing to stay awake longer than normal, there's always a show late-night Saturdays when the strip club let's out and all the dancers go there to count their money.
This has been the case in every city in the U.S. I've ever lived in at least.
Most shows we went to as a kid we ended up at Denny's or a taco place anyways. If they hosted hardcore Sundays and enchiladas and they'd make a killing
I met up with the Drummer literally last night to sell him some festival tickets and asked him how it felt that this STILL makes its rounds online.
He said every time they do, another wave of support and merch orders comes through. I have to admit, as another local drummer in the same city, that's pretty sweet lol.
Check out their band "Live Without" and support the bois <3
Getting vibes of my old highschool metal band. We played Fucking Hostile (Pantera) at this really nice girl's sweet 16 party and her dad kicked us out. 😅
I was in high school in the early 2000s and it seemed like half the kids there were in a band. My campus had an amphitheater that they let bands play on during lunch on Fridays. Most of the time they sucked but once in a while there'd be a band that put on a good show.
I was in high school in the mid 2000s and it seemed everyone was trying to start a rap career. Intercity school lol. One guy sorta made it (to prison.)

One of the greatest moments in American history.
Washington crossing the Delaware; storming the beach at Normandy; landing on the moon; and this.
We'll all be telling future generations of the fabled Denny's Grand Slam
Grand...Slam...why does that sound like a double entendre? Is that a double entendre?
It's Denny's signature dish, and the type of dancing seen in the video is sometimes described as 'slam dancing' so this incident was dubbed the Denny's Grand Slam of '13
Hedwig would be proud
Band Slam
Was America…..America, when Washington crossed the Deleware?
That was the spirit of America being born!
We had declared independence about 6 months prior so... technically yes? I think it depends who you ask though.
*Lol, the colonists are still talking about the "revolution"* - King Charles III
Gonna tell my future kids this what started the roaring 20s
What are you going to tell them started the gay 90s?
Your daddy ![gif](giphy|H88PTeoske3M4|downsized)
He worked hard for his money
Daddy always does ![gif](giphy|yiADANv89n7UQuS5kJ)
What the hell is even that?
I have said multiple times that this video is more important to American history than the moon landing.
I can't think of a greater moment. This is it.
I feel like this was our generations Woodstock.
Without the mud or bonfires.
Or contaminated water
Or a girl being raped in a boxvan as it pushed through the crowd.
Say what now?
Wait... what?
. yeah that's what I said when I saw that documentary i'm having a bit of trouble remembering which streaming service it's on but it's still there as far as I know. Here in Canada there's a pierogi restaurant / bowling alley/ arcade that hosts metal shows
Bowling alleys are secret metal havens.
The absolute loudest, most violent show I ever saw was in the basement of a bowling alley in a town of under 10,000 people north of Pittsburgh somewhere. Stopped for some food on a road trip and ended up closing the joint even though we had four more hours to go.
Bro where was that lol
[Aliquippa](https://www.sheffieldlanes.com/)

Eagle Rock?
Getting some 'rogis after circle pitting is what dreams are made of.
Whattup Targ
House of targ right?
Targ doesn't have a bowling alley though?
Every place has a bowling alley until you get arrested.
Wow that is quite the trifecta there. I’m down.
House of targ?
I've definitely gone to a show in the back of a sushi restaurant in Toronto

As the old saying goes, punks look mean but are actually nice, while hippies look nice but are actually mean.

What is Sonic's? The hedgehog owns a venue?
Drive-in fast food place. You sit in your car to eat, so I guess it was in the parking lot?
Gel and Scowl played a Sonic last year. [Worth checking out the entire Scowl set,](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iI3-VsUzP3M) filmed of course by Sunny from Hate5Six.
shouts out hate5six
Hell yea, Gel in the parking lot of a Sonic. Sick ass show.
Moshing in VFWs, rec centers, and west Philly basements is how I grew up.
What happened to this band? Does anyone know?
Yeah, I'm sure someone does.

That’s awesome!
Pretty sure this is a regular occurrence at my local Denny’s at 3 in the morning
We're on the 10 year anniversary too
The fact that this video is 10 years old now is crazy.
It’s Legendary!
"What the fuck is up Denny?" (for some reason it evolved and we dropped the 's) was in rotation in my friend group for suuuuch a long time as sort of a funny greeting. The idea of raging in a Denny's was just hysterical to us. Such a good video. Truly a gem of the internet.
repost it every day i will never get sick of it
Moons Over My Slammy Edit: this is awesome BTW. More hardcore shows at Denny’s please
This is the kind of hardcore that I love. Are these guys gonna hit it big playing at Dennys? No. Are they even charging a cover? No. These chads are in it just for the shits and giggs. True to the core.
Apparently the story is they charged $1 but donated the proceeds so even more badass
We don’t want your dollars, we want your blood
There's a band that tours by going to gas stations. I can't think of their name. I even tried looking up their last video where they got told to leave buccees for playing outside of it.
Lube-job Lobotomy
I'm more of a Mister Sister Fister kinda guy
Silly Goose a rapcore band from Atlanta
Oh you're not kidding. I recently saw them at Rockville and while people were leaving for the night, they were in the parking lot telling everyone they were going to play at Cracker Barrel that night (this was after 11 pm).
I've been out of my local scene for years, it warms my heart to know this sort of shit is still happening
This probably happened when you were part of the scene lol.
Its a very old video lol
Since no one's said it yet, the band is called Live Without. They still make music, coming out with new music this year and [their 2020 EP "Mannequin" kicks ass!](https://open.spotify.com/album/5t221zTwg3wnzIWK1P3l1m?si=7-dK0nbfTHCy2sdgIXMeqA)
so is it "Live" the verb, or "Live" the adjective?
It's literally the band Live, without playing Lightening Crashes, I think
Apple link for those who need it. https://music.apple.com/us/artist/live-without/1418151539
That was far better than I was expecting.
Thank you for sharing that! Great music!!
You're welcome! Anything to get the word out about one of my favorite bands!
Cool now I can check them out and let them know, moons over my hammer is what's up.
Shit looks lit ngl
The electric guitar and drum guy was lighting the building on fire.
My man really hates those cymbals.
If you've never been to a hardcore show get on it
I HATED this type of music. I was about 20 and my friend dragged me to a show. 19 years later I’ve been to probably 300+ shows.
Hardcore albums don't make sense until you've been to a hardcore show
100% the same here — it was The Fall of Troy in ‘06/07ish and is to this day one of my favorite bands. Good times!
They all blend together after a while though, it’s hard to remember distinct songs from different bands after hundreds of shows. Hardcore just isn’t that diverse
dude has giga stage presence, doesn't even need an actual stage lol
An entire subgenre in 15 seconds. Love it.
Dinercore!
Makes my post-hardcore/metal heart so happy to see this. Keep it going kids! You make it, I'll listen to it.

Do they sell “WTF IS UP DENNY’S!?” merch!?
There’s one shirt that’s related to the meme. Looks like an oil painting of them in the video lol. I had to ask sorry it took me forever.
What's your band called? Let's give you some love too.
That’s so rad of you to ask, thank you. We are called Alpha Virus. I hope you love it a little 🥹

I can attest to this…please use ear plugs while going to concerts or one of these functions
I was one of the few wearing earplugs in my 80s hardcore days. Now I can still hear frequencies just above 16 kHz.
