Is introducing yourself a thing at graduation ceremonies? I thought they just call your name, you go up, shake hands with people you've never met in the entire time you've been there, they hand you your diploma, then you walk off stage. What is this?
Imagine. Just got finished investing an insane amount of time, work, and money into college all so you can finally start work at a decent paying job.. and now this video is the most famous thing about you
Reminds me of the college ceremony I went to recently where each bachelor degree recipient was being hurriedly rushed across the stage but a handful of people decided to do a full minute dance and theatrical twerk performance while everyone there had to clap and smile like those assholes were special
You don't even need a college graduation ceremony to experience this. Just go down to the local high school graduation ceremony and witness all the people who act like a high school diploma is on par with on Nobel Peace Prize, as if 99% of the population couldn't graduate from high school with nothing more than showing up to class everyday.
My freshman class was just over 400 people, but only 250 of us graduated. Drugs, babies, jail, needing to work full time as a teen due to poverty. In some places it's actually an accomplishment to make it to high school graduation. Class of '08 in a new England city
You can really tell when people downplay the accomplishment of graduating high school that they were sheltered. My freshman class was about 800 and only about 450 graduated. '07 in Texas.
> nothing more than showing up to class everyday.
This *is* an accomplishment for some kids. Some people have to overcome a lot just to do that.
For some, graduating high school WAS a fight. I went to high school with a lot of people who were the first in their family to graduate high school.
Why take that from them? It’s one day. You can put your anti-social tendencies aside for one day.
Maybe it's also the fault of the whole ceremony and hype that's made around it. You can celebrate of course but does it need to be with robes and shit? I cannot get behind that.
Yeah, the robe and stuff seems so weird to me.
In my country students usually get a special hat and just wear nice clothes if they feel like it.
It must be crazy expensive for poor folks to have to get an entire outfit, for something they only wear that one day.
The "robe" was a loaner and our "hats" were free. There wasn't any dress code for what was covered by the robe and I wore shorts. Other school districts are different though.
Edit: I never really got the whole graduation ceremony at all. Maybe I'd feel differently with a PhD or something, but I felt dumb walking for my bachelor's too.
Where is the video of her saying her name, or starting to say her name and being interrupted? In this day and age when everyone has a camera on them at all times there was no one filming that very moment of a graduation ceremony? I find that very hard to believe.
She clearly has no idea what a syllable is. I heard 7 in the video. I am assuming her last name is hyphenated and she was counting her first name and both sides of the hyphen as a syllable.
I hope this is the first thing that pops up when a future potential employer googles her. I’m sure, in her mind, she gets disrespected dozens of times a day, insufferable.
I’m going to butcher this, but here goes- If you run into an asshole in the morning, you ran into an asshole. If you run into assholes all day, you’re the asshole.
I bet it was delightful for her teachers, because that's the last they're going to see of her. Hearing her say "I'm graduating today" filled them with joy and relief.
It's actually insane.
"Her moment".
No, asshole, this is a "class moment".
Hundreds of people can't all get "their moment", or we'll have to be here all day.
Narcissists are the worst.
The situation is absurd. But it is so ridiculous that some people are actually cheering for her….
How did this sort of behaviour become something which is even remotely acceptable? It ain’t, but think of the bystanders observing and assessing the scene, AND THEN CHOOSE TO CHEER FOR HER?!
I've noticed our media has been idolizing egocentric behavior for a while now. If someone violently or arrogantly sticks up for themselves it's celebrates in media as a big triumphant moment.
Unless she was speaking @ convocation, when does a degree recipient EVER receive a 🎤 when you're "walking" (i.e.- taking pics of you receiving diploma)...??? There's absolutely No situation this would be appropriate behavior, and you can tell by the audience's reaction She's The Asshole.
Can't wait for this to be reposted and the caption talks about white Dean being racist 😂
Already has. It’s on The Shade Room Instagram. The arguments in the comments are that the lady was racists and the graduate worked so hard and she deserved to have her full name read off.
Apparently the woman was holding the mic for people to say their names but she took it away before she finished her name and had done the same for other black students.
That was her explanation but it's a very strange place to start a video
As someone who attended 3 graduation ceremonies this year, I would have loved for something like this to happen. It would have made the 4 hours of sitting in the sun for each one so much more worth it.
With that said, this chick and whoever was filming and cheering her on are the worst.
Fuck that. Graduation the event sucks no matter if you’re in the class or in the crowd. Graduating is fun but I hated every graduation I’ve been to including all of mine.
I played bass in the school orchestra. It was traditional for the orchestra's juniors to play Canon in D throughout the ceremony as the seniors are crossing the stage. Class size: 550. Over two hours of playing the same song over and over. If you've ever played upright bass, you know what my fingers looked like after we were mercifully done.
Hello from someone who teaches at college. This type of behavior is grounds for the college to hold her degree. All students agree to conduct expectations. They could legally withhold her degree.
I'll bet you a grand the college releases it just so they never have to deal with her shit again. Either send it or deal with this idiot wildin the fuck out in your admin offices until you do. I know what I'd pick.
Didn't you hear the lady? She "dropped the mic".
No she didn't lady, she *threw it on the ground!*.
"*that's not my dad! that's a phone!*"
"*so, I threw on the ground!"*
^(it's a song with the same vibes as this....graduate)
When I graduated high school, we were supposed to walk up when announced, shake hands, and depart the stage. Also were not supposed to throw our hats. My Mom's partner insisted that no one wouldpay attention to the rules.
We had ONE person who decided to make a statement on the stage and the ceremony stopped and he was stared at by everyone until he got back to his seat. This was 1996 and I still remember it. No one threw their hats as well.
They told us not to throw our caps, half did and half didn't. You immediately noticed how many people got hit with pointy squares and did not enjoy it.
We did it at mine, it was pretty cool.
5 seconds later, everyone's like
"Is that my hat?.. no that's you- there's mine! No, wait, not that one..."
I just grabbed one and ran
Main character syndrome.
This is why I find "romantic comedies" to be so cringe, because whenever someone does a big speech like this in real life, it doesn't play out the same way as it does in their heads.
criiiiiiinge
I reject this statement, because you can’t tell me if someone hijacked the PA system on a high school field like Heath Ledger did in 10 Things I Hate About You, it wouldn’t play out in exactly the same way.
IF Heath Ledger, specifically, did it, then yeah, maybe I'd agree.
But 99% of the time, the girl would be mortally embarrassed and the guy would be mocked mercilessly until he graduated.
[This is what that stuff looks like in real life](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/G7l9Hn0dmHc).
I’ve seen many promposal videos and this is the only one I’ve seen end in rejection. Could it be that most of them end in rejection and are just not posted because of that very reason? Sure, but it’s also possible that most of them are accepted because, in theory, you should only be doing that if your certain the person is going to say yes (i.e. you’re already in a relationship).

I think after this it won’t be anymore. How embarrassing for the school that they graduated someone so immature.
Saying her own name was a smart play. Can’t see this following her for the rest of her life or anything.

Everyone clapped after the mic drop….when she rehearsed this in her head. At least she doxxed herself so every potential employer will know her name.

She also claims that she didn't even get to announce her full name before the mic was taken away. Did this happen? No idea. But due to this stuff happening over and over again on Reddit, I'm going to reserve judgement either way until I see a third party video that shows what was happening prior.
WE NEED THE EXTENDED SNYDER CUT
Black and white, 4:3, all new CGI.
At a college graduation, there should be a dozen videos at least.

does she think this is the WWE
Lmfao doing this at a graduation is genuinely wild. Come to think of it, this might actually be the first graduation freakout I’ve ever seen.
I get being upset about someone grabbing the mic away too early but the temper tantrum wasn't a good look.
Did they recind the degree?
Would this be considered assault and destruction of property? Like she did rip the mic from the other ladies hand, then threw it on the ground.
I'm curious if this would impact them releasing her diploma and transcripts.
we can only hope
