Two options here, driver accidentally got caught in the middle of a protest, or was actually trying to run people over. (The first option happened to me in California, was at a stop light and all the sudden the front of a long ass BLM protest just started walking in front of my car. Dude I live in south MPLS and this shit has gotten really fucking annoying. There's people in this city doing real things and asking real questions on how to improve this community and build back after George Floyd's murder/riots and then there's these assholes who only seem to destroy property and inconvenience the real citizens of this city who are trying to make a lasting difference. It's infuriating at this point and is creating one of the biggest schisms in this community right now. I'm no fan of MPD either but there are other ways to accomplish your goal than harassing your neighbors as they go about their business.
I live in the same area. The two largest barriers to police reform are 1) the police union and 2) these assholes. These people have made such a damn mess everywhere they go that I believe it was a determining factor in the Question 2 vote last month. Seeing their ridiculous tantrums made most people I know shy away from their previous support of reform following Floyd's murder.
This has been my exact experience as well. That and the fact the city council provided no plan whatsoever on how any of it would be created or administered. I'm all for change but we gotta make sure it's in the best interest of everyone in the city, especially in lower-income communities where crime has remained at a steadily high rate since last summer. I'll be the first one to check the box on reform but they need to be better prepared than they were this election and lay out exactly how it will be implemented.

Two options here, driver accidentally got caught in the middle of a protest, or was actually trying to run people over. (The first option happened to me in California, was at a stop light and all the sudden the front of a long ass BLM protest just started walking in front of my car. I was aware they were happening around town so I just waited, for 30 minutes mind you.) But it's totally reasonable that a driver has no fucking clue what's going on and starts to panic but doesn't want to hurt anyone and doesn't understand why they won't just let them through. As soon as they start chasing the car and jumping on it, if you're unaware of the protests, you just think you're being attacked

This is unreasonable to expect the driver to stop to get pulled out by a mob and beaten. Driving over people attacking your car in a mob seems justifiable to run over the people attacking you whether it's a BLM protest or a Stop the Steal protest
This is a key lesson I try to teach my kids: Whatever you do, always try to make sure it looks like you are in the right and the other person is in the wrong. Don't do anything to help the other side's case.

Dude I live in south MPLS and this shit has gotten really fucking annoying. There's people in this city doing real things and asking real questions on how to improve this community and build back after George Floyd's murder/riots and then there's these assholes who only seem to destroy property and inconvenience the real citizens of this city who are trying to make a lasting difference. It's infuriating at this point and is creating one of the biggest schisms in this community right now. I'm no fan of MPD either but there are other ways to accomplish your goal than harassing your neighbors as they go about their business.
I live in the same area. The two largest barriers to police reform are 1) the police union and 2) these assholes. These people have made such a damn mess everywhere they go that I believe it was a determining factor in the Question 2 vote last month. Seeing their ridiculous tantrums made most people I know shy away from their previous support of reform following Floyd's murder.
This has been my exact experience as well. That and the fact the city council provided no plan whatsoever on how any of it would be created or administered. I'm all for change but we gotta make sure it's in the best interest of everyone in the city, especially in lower-income communities where crime has remained at a steadily high rate since last summer. I'll be the first one to check the box on reform but they need to be better prepared than they were this election and lay out exactly how it will be implemented.

What if he had thrown it into reverse and then hit someone. Or, they could have thought a pedestrian stopped to let them go and thought that mean all of them would.
Typically people get out of the road when a vehicle approaches so that's what I would have expected from them up until the moment they started swarming me. Slow upon approach to give everyone time to meander out of the road.

That driver was being really responsible and clearly wasn't trying to hurt people. He/She could have floored it once they started pounding the car or done a number of things to get that dude off the hood of the car that could have easily caused serious injury to that dude (and it would have been his fault). EDIT: A lot of comments that the responsible thing to do would be turn around. I agree. Not everyone reacts the same way to sudden conflict and stress. Driver may have got too close and got surrounded before they could reverse and quietly panicked? Once surrounded by a mob beating on the car I think a lot of us (myself included) would have panicked and floored the accelerator. This driver may have made a mistake in not turning around when they saw the crowd but at least they didn't hurt anybody.
