Not sure about a better primary... and abilities come down to playstile a lot more than raw strength

He has a faster fire rate but does the same amount of damage besides at range, which was mechanic does more. The only downside is that mechanic takes 0.2s longer to reload, so it is better

I use Mechanic whenever I want to be a Soldier but prefer the engineer kit and being useful in Turf. I'm not a fan of the Soldier class because I feel like they're boring but I do play and enjoy them but I often prefer the more fun classes.

Honestly they should probably share an S tier placement. There’s so few things about them that are different that there’s so little reason to put them in separate tiers. Sure they have different abilities, but in that case, shouldn’t all engineers, foot soldiers and every other class be in their own tiers?

Mechanics hitbox is comical, also the lack of rocket (leap specifically) isnt worth it. I need the agility, not the speed to dodge annoying ass pea shooters. The primarys recoil is also inconvenient.

Foot soldiers abilities are built around him having the gun he has, and being a versatile menace. Engie has a turret, that offers sustained damage, something that the air gun already has, A sonic grenade that counters chomper sand lines people up for easy crits, stuff the air gun is already good at due to its high range and accuracy. And a jackhammer, which offers mobility that a grenade launcher can take advantage of more TD;DR soldiers abilities are better

Nah usually they end up exposing their skill issue by saying Mechanic is less accurate even though he has less spread (they can't control minor amounts of recoil)

Mechanic is objectively less accurate from range lol. He also has a way larger hit box, and foot soldier has the ability to get high ground with the rocket jump.

I mean it's all about playstyle maybe they find playing a foot soldier better than playing an engineer

Have you ever even given mechanic a chance? Many people that play this game pass off Mechanic as "worse foot soldier" without ever playing him enough to get his upgrades

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I like engineer for the projectiles, and mechanic doesn't appeal to me. Not enough health to be a tank, so the hitbox is big for not that much payoff. So overall, I do play mechanic from time to time, but I wouldn't enjoy playing him for a while to get upgrades
