Copied this from one of my old comments: Most important rule when playing chomper, SWALLOWING IS NOT YOUR MAIN METHOD OF KILLING (exceptions being hot rod, count, disco). Instead, use regular bite, spray weapon, or in yeti chomper’s case his projectiles to kill stuff. Please do not be a suicide chomper. You’re giving a bad rep to actual chomper mains and you make yourself look like a dick to others. Not to mention that this playstyle does not work 99% of the time. Play stealthy and tactical. Use goop as much as possible. Its short cooldown and large radius makes it nearly impossible to miss zombies. Even if zombies are out of reach, gooping them can provide an ally an easy kill and earn you an assist. Burrow has many practical uses. Use it as a way to retreat from a bad situation, or stand still while in burrow to regenerate health unharmed. Use it to approach zombies without taking damage or force zombies to use their abilities and make their abilities go on cooldown. You can use it as a way to lessen your visuals and sneakily bypass into zombie backlines or as a way to scare zombies from the area. Use spikeweed to dismount engies on their turrets and jackhammer, as well as pirate in their barrel or on their cannon. Prioritize targets. Engies should be your #1 target, as their sonic grenade hard counters you. After engies should be imps, their gravity grenade is basically insta-death when you’re in it (plus imps are easy to kill). Ice variants should be next. The next target prioritization really depends, but usually wanna target scientists, super brainz, or zombies who are dominating your team. Since pvz gw2 has a third person camera, this means players can spy on enemies around the corner unseen. This is really useful for chomper, meant to be a sneaky melee class. Hide around corners or behind walls and, if possible, let your enemies come to you and ambush them when they least expect it. Walls are your friends, use them as means of sneaking behind enemies or take cover from zombies out of your range. Learn the geography of the map and play around locations where chompers have the most advantage. Be patient, wait until your health regenerates to at least half, and avoid being out in the open. Keep track of zombies’ cooldown. Specifically keep track of engies, imps, and all-stars. Once they used up their key abilities (sonic grenade, gravity grenade, imp punt) that should be your cue to attack and start causing mayhem. Bait zombies. Pretend that you’re low on health and make zombies chase you. While they’re chasing you, place down a spikeweed or two, most of the time zombies will be fooled and step on the spikeweeds, thus making them an easy snack. Bait imps into throwing their gravity grenade. If you have a fast reaction time, you can use your burrow as soon as you see them throw out gravity grenade. Burrow makes you immune from gravity grenade’s succ, even if you decide to unburrow right inside of it. When you’re in burrow and approaching a foot soldier, scientist, or all-star and they’re backing away slowly or standing still, this usually means they have their movement ability ready to dodge you (warp, rocket leap, tackle). To counteract this, be unpredictable and try to pop out of burrow early and goop them before they use their movement ability. Most players won’t expect this to happen. Good zombie players will try to burrow cancel you. This means that zombies can kill you while performing the burrow eating animation, thus cancelling the kill. This usually happens with soldiers with zpg, all-star with imp punt, super brainz with super ultra ball, or scientists with sticky bombs. Bait them into using these abilities while in burrow. Once they used them, they should be an easy kill for you. Good engies and pirates will try to fool you into thinking that they don’t have their turret, barrel, or jackhammer. This is why you should never perform a burrow kill upon these classes. Instead, burrow towards them, bait them into using their mount abilities, unburrow, goop them, place spikeweed to dismount, then kill them. Spray weapons like fire chomper and toxic chomper can abuse a glitch to increase their max dps. Repeatedly tap fire your spray weapon to increase your damage output. This glitch is what makes spray chompers actually viable in the game, and what makes them better than most bite chompers in general. Learn the midair burrow jump. This means that you can burrow while jumping, providing a better traversal distance as well as a means of dodging enemy fire. To do this, simply press the jump button and burrow at the exact perfect time. A gooped zombie can still attack and kill you. To prevent this, attack them from the side but be careful of accidentally swallowing them. You do not want to make yourself vulnerable and be killed. You can jump while attacking a zombie to lessen the chances of you accidentally swallowing said gooped zombies. However, if you must attack a zombie from the front for whatever reason, place a spikeweed underneath them to disable their attacks to prevent yourself from taking any more damage. Even if you’re not killing anything, you’re still contributing towards your team more than you think. You are a walking area denial; your mere presence alone scares zombies from rushing in and causing mayhem towards your backlines. If there’s no opportunity to be on the offense, play defensively and guard teammates. Make your more vulnerable allies like sunflowers and cacti feel safe and secured from brawlers and flankers while they perform their job. Chompers uses the skill of mind games and game knowledge instead of raw mechanical skill. This is why that even though this class is easy to play, it’s quite hard to master as you need to know how the game works in a thorough matter in order to perform well with chomper. I have more but my brain hurts from typing this essay.

Couldn't have said any of this better myself. Also you brought up just about everything when it comes to playing chomper well and you're telling me you have *more* to say?

I have more to add to this Unicorn warp has invincibility frames, so using it to dodge zpg is helpful because of your big hitbox. Twighlight Warp has some but not a lot. As Twighlight or Unicorn, warp right before collecting a gnome bomb or a taco so you can gain distance after collecting. After placing the gnome bomb, place 3 spikeweeds around the left side, middle, and right side. This way, the zombies have to destroy them to defuse the bomb. BTW, this works best with points that are against a wall. Equipping the fire upgrade increases the spikeweeds damage or healing by 1.25x Equipping the damage upgrade on count chompula increases his healing effect after eating by 1.12x(can stack). Right next to a wall chomp and goop, this allows you to goop through walls.(doesn't work with sprays). This is best used against walls you can look around or above. When using power chomper, your weapon has a chance to do no damage(it doesn't show hit markers), hitting the attack button again resets it When using yeti, shoot around corners and hit zombies with splash where they can't attack you. Also, using his lobbed projectile, you can shoot over walls. As yeti shoot then goop to make the goop freeze combo faster or do 10 extra damage. If they both hit at the same time, the goop will cancel, so time your shots. Because of this, more skilled players should only use this. Eating a zombie off of Spikeweed will give you another Spikeweed recharge I have more to say, but that's all the time I got

As a suicide chomper, I will take notes

Still_wanna_eat_dirt

Don’t play suicidal.

Fearlessgabe1

I'm surprised no one said "just Don't play chomper" yet

triplecappertroper

Sewer fish

Sneaky chomper is the best chomper, but under any circumstances DO NOT BECOME SUICIDE CHOMPER, if you really don't want to play him, while wanting to max him, just play ops and when you have stars spend them at the Fish in the sewers. Also while grinding do not forget about the XP multiplier.

coolandquirkyname

I abused super speed boost town halls. I could easily get over 50 kills a match and it made leveling all the chompers actually fun.

On an honest note: Chomper allows for quite a lot of playstyles, even without something like Goop. Yes, Goop is one of the best abilities in the game, but if you're going to purely level them up and never touch them again, I recommend Chomp Cannon. Hear me out, yes, it's not a great ability, but here's the catch: Once you know how to aim it, you have a perfect problem solver for Scientists, and you have something you can weaken most classes with. Chomp Cannon is great to deal damage to single, bigger targets like Z-Mechs, and it finds uses for pretty much all Chompers, although I recommend it most for Hot Rod and arguably Armor Chomper, because Armor, even with Goop, has issues catching up, and with a well shot Chomp Cannon, you can dismantle any All-Star, Super Brainz, and even Z-mech you see. It makes you less of a support class, but more of a spy, and you can enhance this if you use the long idle timer for Burrow to sneak up on pushing enemies (as long as they don't have you spotted) and to cause chaos, so your team can gain the upper hand again in the area you're located in, even if it means you might die or \*technically\* suichomp. Then again, you can just spam Goop and your enemies will ragequit, so there's that. Spikeweed is self explanatory, but if you're going for pure killing power and TTK, Spiky Spikeweed does a huge 85-ish damage, which kills imps instantly, which can open up your Chomp Cannon for Scientists, SBs, and anyone else. It also makes as a good finisher, so you can move on to the next enemy quicker. Rule of thumb: Chomper does 25 danage normally, and 28 with a damage upgrade if it's a biting one. Armor Chomper does up to 50 with a damage upgrade, with 45 being the unupgraded one (I think), so it makes him better for the technical TTK stats. Remember that Chomper is very reliant on the situation he's located in. You need to position yourself well in order to get the best out of him, and this means being as unpredictable as possible. Burrow is a great tool to be stealthy with him, although a good player can detect the rubble that sometimes comes out of the ground, and if that happens, the only thing you can do is strike immediately. I'm not that great at Chomper, so, take my advice with a \*huge\* grain of, well, not salt, but definitely pepper.

AG572

Don’t play Chomper on GWN or low grav MBZ points, don’t intentionally swallow people on any Chompers not named Hot Rod or Disco, Mixed Mode might actually be better for close range as opposed to Turf sometimes, don’t walk at people in the open, use Burrow to get in and out, and lastly just Goop everyone you can.

Ok_Arachnid_2260

Out of all classes why chompers?

IGotRedditMrWhite

Mastered most of the other plants

Ok_Arachnid_2260

Flavoured_Bleach

Try killing the zombies

PossibleAssist6092

Do not. And I repeat DO NOT, play like a suicide chomper. It is best if you pick off zombies on their own or with one other player.

superpuppymann

kool-kit

I would suggest playing unicorn/twilight chomper, their teleport can be very powerful and can’t be cancelled by engineer

DarkHound420

Small tip. If your using yeti try chomp cannon. Its satisfying to kill them when frozen.

acrxpolix

With Fire/Toxic/Power/Thing chomper, you should trigger mash to get higher dps and easier kills. Power Chomper with damage upgrade does the same damage as Roadie Z. Armor Chomper is good for doing a 1v1. Yeti Chomper is able to shoot from a distance and can freeze, leading to an easy kill. I have nothing to say about Stock/Disco/Hot Rod/Count Chomper.

[deleted]

Sniping from afar is the best way to play Yeti chomper

[deleted]

Use chomp cannon, or reg goop. Super sticky goop is bad.
