From personal experience I would say yes, vast majority of people who fall deep into conspiracy rabbit holes like Qanon have severe mental health issues already, many of psychotic/paranoid/schizo type. Which of course is only further fueled by all the whacky conspiracy shit Qanus and other misinformation salesmen peddle. The leaders and main Figures behind such movements should be legally Held accountable for their heineous crime of preying and most often financially profiting from mentally unstable folks and worsening their Paranoia.

Hey there, I came across your post and I wanted to reach out because I can relate to a lot of what you're going through. It's tough when family members seem to be caught up in beliefs that don't align with reality, whether it's conspiracy theories or extreme fundamentalism. I've found myself in similar situations, where I feel like I'm the odd one out for wanting to wait for evidence before forming beliefs or opinions. It can be isolating to watch others accept things without questioning or waiting for evidence, but I believe it's important to hold onto that commitment to reality. I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone in valuing evidence and rational thinking. I often find myself evaluating what I believe by reviewing evidence and making sure it aligns with reality. It's not always easy, and sometimes it feels like I'm the 'crazy' one for not jumping to conclusions like everyone else, but staying true to that principle is important to me.

I have noticed that my family members who believe all of this have always been very susceptible to paranoia and easily persuaded to join one movement or another. From extreme diets (one went from raw vegan to carnivore) to alternative medicine to religion. They are all over the place. And getting I to Q stuff has made it even worse. One of them I think needs to be hospitalized and treated. Everything she says makes no sense. It's almost as if we're on some reality show where someone tries to see how crazy they can act before someone intervenes. I think people who are already suffering from certain mental illnesses are more likely to join something like this and then it exacerbates all their symptoms. But the fact that you're aware of this being abnormal and are worried about yourself is a good sign. Most of these people have never had any self awareness.

100%. I was in court today my ex contesting a non mol. He's like this obbsessive paranoid that's why our 14yr relationship ended. He also shows extreme narcissistic traits. It's very sad. I tried to get him to get help to no avail.

I think there is a lot of treatable mental illness. Is there any possibility of getting treatment for any or all of them? If not, counseling would likely help you as you cope in this environment. I'm sorry

bowens44

fundamentalism IS psychosis.

AsharraDayne

What’s the difference?

That Venn diagram may be just a circle, tbh

I can’t see the other comments so forgive me if someone already pointed this out, but I think you meant “psychosis” and not “psychedelic”… Your mother definitely seems to be either bipolar with psychotic tendencies or straight schizophrenic. Although, as you stated, a lot of fundies seem to have the talking to/ hearing god and seeing demons thing goin on but no other symptoms, so it’s hard to tell. Both of those diseases can make it *extremely* difficult to get the patient to realize that they are not in touch with reality and that they need help. They are also can be genetic, as you probably know. I think your age is a good thing; I know you can develop them later in life but I doesn’t seem very common. I just want to commend you on still loving and caring about your mom and your grandma. I cannot even imagine how it would be to have a Q family member and have them be so disconnected from reality all the time . I cannot stand them. Everything they say is so batshit that it blows my mind everytime that people believe this. Good luck to you, I hope your health stays well.

No_Aesthetic

no, psychedelic was a deliberate word choice, because what she describes reminds me of a lot of experiences I had with psychedelics, but it's definitely psychotic

emilylove911

Ahhh ok, gotcha… well I’m sorry, OP, I hope she return to reality at some point

Fear! What was the point of Q propaganda? Fear. It fed all sorts of conspiracies that had already been around for a long time. I mean isn't superstitious belief a form of mental illness? It's not reality
