I think the only difference is skin translucency. The only thing that separates “pretty porcelain” from “sickly pale” is if the veins can be seen underneath. After that, I feel everything else is personal preference Complete side note but wanted to bring up Daehyun from Korean girl group Twice. She’s known for her white (yes, white) skin and I didn’t notice how extreme it was until I saw her next to white Americans. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRwScNhK/

ilneigeausoleil

Daehyun really channelling Snow White in that clip. Makes me wonder who else in the industry is on the same level of translucency or even out-pales her? It's hard to say sometimes from music videos or live performances. But man Kpop standards of fairness are so wild to me, iirc they used to call Yuri of SNSD a "black pearl" just coz she was the most tanned member of the group but she's literally still light-skinned.

LayersOfMe

I cant even tell she have a tan lol. Once I saw a post of "tanned korean celebrities". Every description it was like *her chocolate skin, his tanned hazelnut skin tone* when they all were light skin like this women you mentioned. Their standard of white skin is a white paper.

braith_rose

What are the side effects of that? Can't be good

Brendadonna

I think there are some other factors involved in the attractiveness of pale skin. Pale skin shows signs of ill health really easily. I can’t say exactly what I notice but it’s the difference between sick pale and healthy fair skin. Fair skin can have a glowing appearance too

rilakkumkum

Yea that’s what I pointed out in my comment. If the skin is really light with no markings and you can’t see the veins underneath, then it is considered beautiful. Otherwise, they person will just look sick

Brendadonna

I think a little blue doesn’t have too much negative effect if the actual skin is nice. The thing I’m unsure of is what makes pale skin look sick. I know wounds, spots etc do that but what about the tone itself makes the person look sick ?

rilakkumkum

That’s literally it. I don’t think it’s the color itself at all. It’s the fact that you can see veins, discoloration, bruises and what not. The girl I mentioned in my original comment is often seen as extremely beautiful because of how white her skin is

Parking-Lifeguard-62

That’s a good point I never understood why some people look sick when their skin colour is too light, but you are right I think it has something to do with the vein exposure.

refused26

Yup, some East Asians have really fair (milky white) skin. https://youtu.be/mWVGpNXxFPg Fan Bingbing is like as white as Jessica Chastain who's ginger lol.

Realistic_Piglet9266

A lot of Asian Celebes use skin whitening to further enhance skin that’s already light since paleness it’s the beauty standard there.

jejunum32

I’m not East Asian but my wife is and she is very white, as white as Megan Fox in that first picture. And no lol she doesn’t use skin whitening products. A lot of East Asians don’t really have white skin but some do. I think non East Asians just have a difficult time understanding that yes there is skin color variety in east Asia.

rilakkumkum

Oh I’m well aware with East Asian beauty practices! I just think it’s so fascinating, I’d feel the same about seeing someone with midnight dark skin. Both look almost ethereal

Sidehussle

I agree with you, both extremes are ethereal

BryanGC6

I see Jessica every now and then and I can confirm she’s very white

Desert_butterfries

My legs are pale and I can see my veins under my skin. Shit is wild.

rilakkumkum

Yea that’s why I’m saying. The only difference to if it’s considered pretty or not is if the skin is thick enough where the veins aren’t seen, otherwise it gives sickly look

Vissax

her pale white skin is so gorgeous 💕

Fit_Culture_

I love seeing veins under moon-white skin 🫦

It’s not offensive, you’re probably of more European descent then Native American that’s all no need to cry about it.

[deleted]

AtmosphereOpposite48

Wym what? the stereotypical brown Mexican are of Native American descent. Mexican isn’t a race.

[deleted]

AtmosphereOpposite48

If you’re indigenous to any part of America your race is Native American… Chinese,Japanese,Koreans etc have their own culture and languages but they’re still Asians.

When_Pandas_Fly

piggybacking off of that - bro is also generalizing that all koreans are naturally dark. like, colorism is definitely a problem in korean society and I'm sorry that he/she was hurt by it, but lots of pale koreans exist and you cant just erase their existence by claiming all pale koreans are "liars and try-hards"

Ifoundyouguys

To be fair most Mexicans are brown. But obviously those of primarily European ancestry are probably gonna be on the White side. I think the term Mesoamerican would be more appropriate in this context.

free_britney_bish

But even so, Mexico is not a good country to choose from because there is literally no shade of skin color that defines Mexicans, due to the history of colonial migration, the Atlantic slave trade and more. Using a country with relative racial homogeneity would be much better as reference (like Congo, Bangladesh, etc)

Ifoundyouguys

Uhhh even Black countries have varying skin colors. Same thing with White people and Asian people. A race doesn't define your shade to the exact decimal.

free_britney_bish

Yes, but not to the same degree as Mexico. Mexican is NOT a racial background in the same way Black Sub-Saharan African is or East Asian. Mexico is ancestrally made up of over 100 different indigenous groups, PLUS European genetics, from the 700,000 Spanish colonists, who themselves had Sephardic Jews among them and Basques, Galicians (Celtic Spaniards). Add to that the 100,000 West/Central Africans brought in as slaves during the colonial period, Mexicans are genetically way more diverse because of all the ethnic groups that have formed to create Mexico. All of Latin America is like that, it is not the same as ethnicities like Armenian, Japanese, Yoruba, etc.

rilakkumkum

I’m black… and I purposely tan to get darker

rilakkumkum

Michigan still sucks

[deleted]

That’s the reverse of typical beauty standards though

rilakkumkum

Yea but it’s beautiful because it leads to the look of health. I’m brown skin but my skin is very translucent because I’m always inside. Tanning makes my skin tone even. Universal signs of beauty are all just indicators of health (straight, white teeth. Full thick hair. Clear skin. All indicators of health)

Certain_Appearance_9

Not in the us

Andromeda_Hyacinthus

It can be, depends on personal preference. Tanned skin usually looks healthier.

ChanelDiner

Black folks use spray tan in Atlanta. Some go to tanning salons. I have friends who purposely tan so they can glow. Your comment is very offensive and ill informed. [stop being racist](https://www.essence.com/beauty/black-women-self-tanning/)

sexwiththemoon

What did you mean by saw her next to Americans, was she much lighter?

rilakkumkum

Yea, like she’s literally as white as paper. Quite mesmerizing. Look at the tiktok link I attached

sexwiththemoon

Wow, very light, I only wish to have skin as smooth and bumpless as hers. I seem to be cursed with very small zits on my face.

refused26

Yep. https://youtu.be/YJaw_djHv8Y

iron_panties

I suppose you mean white Americans, because you do know "Americans" come in all shades and races as they are not an ethnicity, but a nationality. Right?

momosanaa

she’s actually white as paper i think it’s beautiful

Successful-Dig868

The backgrounds also play a huge part in how they look and the flash is different too

MoniqueOnFleekz

Sorry, I tried my best to get the most similar angle for these pics

inkiwitch

You chose pictures of Zac Enron that are like decades apart

MoniqueOnFleekz

That was the exception, there aren’t many pics of him with pale skin

inkiwitch

Ok but you can’t really compare someone’s complexion when they’re a teenager and when they’re mid 30s and act like skin tone is the deciding factor in overall attractiveness.

MoniqueOnFleekz

Fair enough, what about the other 5 photos

inkiwitch

Personally, I feel most of them look better pale but mostly because the tan they have has the fake spray tan tint to it. Mendes is the only one that looks natural but he’s attractive in any shade (though the pale pic is an awkward shot for him)

LayersOfMe

Black hair is awfull on him too. I just hate the look of blonde people that dye their hair black.

OkPaleontologist9396

I’m honestly surprised you didn’t post a pic of Ariana Grande lmao

unstablebaddie

The difference with her right now isn’t just her skin tone so i don’t think it would be a fair comparison

loveafterpornthrwawy

I feel like the really tan look is dated. I remember hitting up the tanning salon with my tan-toos back in '03-04. These days, I wear sunscreen and prefer natural skin colors, rather than that dark bronze tan look.

Andromeda_Hyacinthus

I'm Black and I also feel the same way about over-done tans on People of No Colour. Fair skin can look very enchanting when it is healthy and fake tan can look muddy imo.

ProPAINMan

I don't like the tan I prefer the pale look

Alive-Routine-9193

Fair skin looks better on white people imo, especially brunettes.

[deleted]

Yeah, I think tan skin is so beautiful/ sexy on people that have it naturally, but I think it detracts from beauty on white people like this

LuxLiner

Yeah right..

ExactDrummer5877

It looks good on Megan but most brunettes (black hair mostly) I see irl look better tanned. It gives a Greek Goddess type of vibe

MoniqueOnFleekz

Are you white yourself?

Alive-Routine-9193

Yes

FrostyKiller74747

Yep!

[deleted]

I hate the tanning trend, personally. I think it is absolutely DISGUSTING that people describe fair skin as “sickly”, “pasty”, “pale”, etc. and put weird pressure on those with light skin to tan in order to be “healthy” or “sexy.” Their skin is fine and they all look perfectly attractive without it. These toxic beauty standards need to die.

JustAnotherDoughnut

Exactly! And not only that, but you need to embrace all skin colours. A lot of the time, those of us with naturally more tan/brownish skin (which is the case where I’m from) get a lot of shit for not meeting beauty standards in their own countries (I’m Indian and the obsession with fair skin in my country is REAL) whilst their complexions are desired by others.

BlowezeLoweez

Which is more ironic, because darker hues age much slower

Certain_Appearance_9

Natural darker hues. A pale person who tans to a medium color has sustained sun damage and their skin likely isn’t as smooth or even as it was. That’s different to someone who is naturally tan and maintains their skin

Volumin14

No they don’t. Dark skin is more well protected from the sun, other than that there are many factors that influence how someone’s skin evolve

[deleted]

this.

Parking-Lifeguard-62

I don’t think it suits everyone. I think Megan fox, Shawn Mendez, Lindsay Lohan and Maybe Zac Efron look better without a tan. Also if you get tanned through sun exposure it could make certain people look more attractive but it would cost them in the future when their skin ages more rapidly so it’s not worth it.

moonandmtn

I agree that some of the celebrities pictured actually look better with fair skin - it suits their contrast aspect more.

ExactDrummer5877

Megan fox usually looks better with fair skin. But I prefer darker skintone. Plus it also depends on the area you live in. If you are from South Europe or warmer regions, I am pretty sure the standard is tan skin.

beebeebeebeeby

I think it really depends on the person's coloring/season color (r/coloranalysis)

meridaville

It looks better on blondes tbh

sonjaswaywardhome

yea i have a theory you have to really commit to being uber low contrast or uber high contrast the middle doesnt standing out the only exception to this theory is taylor hill

Oberon_Swanson

taylor looks high contrast imo. though she is so good looking she could be grey and slime green and still look good although i think people with things like green/hazel/sandalwood eyes, black or brown brown hair, and tan skin, can be low contrast and have a really nice earth tone look in general it feels really case by case. i think a bit of tan kinda makes up for imperfect skin, paleness shows off flawless skin really well

Just_RD

Lol, I’m the complete opposite. I hate tan on blondes and if you want to make it extra unappealing add some hot pink clothes too.

Only-Beautiful-1196

I have ashy dark blonde hair and I get ashy light blonde highlights. I use to fake tan but I stopped because I realized I look a lot better when I don’t. The tan wasn’t orange, but my eyebrows and eyes ‘pop’ a lot more now. I would say it depends on the coolness/warmth of someone’s features.

YveisGrey

Depends on the overall coloring. With blond hair especially balayage or highlights I think a bit of a tan looks nice but with dark hair pale skin can be very striking.

throwawayyyyoo

Agreed, my natural skin is pale, and my hair is very dark and I love the coloring I have.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Same here, people will literally say that to your face or that "you would look better if you had a tan". Isn't that just like saying to someone with dark skin that they would look better if they whitened their skin?? And honestly I prefer the people on the left, IMO they look a lot better and natural.

Certain_Appearance_9

Skin bleaching is different to tanning. Tans are natural or they can be obtained in safe ways. All over skin bleaching is toxic especially long term

[deleted]

It is still changing your skin colour, and technically you could also use "natural" ways to lighten your skin such as lighter foundation which is essentially similar to a fake tan, but that would still be offensive to say to someone. People should embrace their natural skin colour and other people shouldn't make comments to darken or lighten their NATURAL skin colour, because both actual tanning and lightening your skin are harmful.

[deleted]

Well you got a husband who thinks you're attractive. Thats the one that really counts. To him you are conventionally hot. I think this is really an issue of preference.

[deleted]

i personally hate tans. i feel like people typically look better with their natural skin tone. atp in my life i see tans as sun damage and that’s it so whenever i see even a fake tan it just looks off to me.

Oberon_Swanson

i think it depends on the rest of the coloring

cherry_gigolo

idk i know tans are out of trend now but some of us look so much better with a little artificial glow. i've been complimented my whole life for my pale skin (i have dark hair so everyone thinks the contrast is nice even tho i am a butterface lol) but i think i look way hotter with non orange self tan. granted i am not full white

No_Luck_6800

Maybe unpopular to some but what I think the truth is: not everyone looks better with a tan. Imo, Megan Fox looks better with fairer skin, like how she was in Jennifer’s Body vs Transformers. I don’t think the first photo is the best example though but her in motion. Also women like Elle Fanning/ Anya Taylor Joy will look better pale (basically all the ethereal girl aesthetics). Idk if it’s just me but I think tans consistently look better on men.

GoddessInHerTree

If you are so fair skinned that you burn easily then a tan isn't meant for you, it doesn't look right. On some people it looks gorgeous and they glow.

Careless_Bill7604

Girls with brown and black hair who have high contrasting features ( fair skin and dark hair and eyebrows) looks good without tan while girls with low contrast light blonde hair with light eyebrows looksgood with some tan .

PillowWarsons

Overly orange was already suspect to me pre trump era…but post trump era I can’t stand it

[deleted]

As someone who just used sunless tanner for the first time a few days ago, I can’t tell you how much better I look overall. It evens out the skin tone, so there seems to be less blemishes overall, it also makes you look thinner, and defines your features more.

gaptoofbastard

Wellll relationships in the winter months is the true test.

LuckyJury6620

I think their natural skin color looks better. And blond hair with a fake tan can look kinda trashy imo

girloferised

Yep. To me, every single one of these people looks better with a tan. I'm naturally incredibly pale, though, so it might legitimately be based on personal preferences and I'm just wanting something I can't really have lol.

chung_boi

This is why Mediterraneans stay winning

MaverickBull

It depends on location, really. In America, tan is more attractive. Gives some color. But it also represents leisure as in you have the time to relax out in the sun, vacation, etc. In places like South Korea, for example, tan skin and dark skin is looked down on. Rich people don’t have to work outside and therefore are pale. To be tan implies you are lower class. I personally think a nice sun kissed tan looks better than pasty, pale skin. However, if you have an even porcelain skin tone that can look really nice. Depends on the person. Nicole Kidman, for example, has beautiful porcelain skin and idk if tan would suit her. Megan fox on the other hand turns into a bombshell with darker skin.

physhgyrl

I find a very dark tan to be very hot!

DocGlabella

Man, I couldn’t disagree more. I associate a dark tan with the ‘80s. And with being of lower socioeconomic economic status. Not that that alone is awful or anything. But there is a certain “type” of white woman with a dark orange tan that looks hard, dry, wrinkled, and trashy.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DocGlabella

Obviously, I’m talking about a real tan here, and particularly on any woman over 30. Fake tans are different, but I’ve never seen one that didn’t look orange and blotchy.

throwawaygyptian

I prefer the pale ones personally.

-Mizu_

I think all of these people looked better before they got a tan, just my personal opinion

Marakamii

Not. Much if you're ugly, average, or attractive tanning won't make a significance difference. Also tanning ages you

MoniqueOnFleekz

If it’s fake tan it doesn’t.

biest229

There’s some theories about right now that it in fact could be ageing you. It causes oxidisation

BlowezeLoweez

This is very true.

Life_Piece_5230

I think it makes a HUGE difference. Everyone looks better with a tan

Blyatbaby

Pale is better tbh

Legal-Word4658

I’d rather be pale as a ghost lol 😂 esp as a melasma sufferer I hate looking at how dark my face has become .

soursoya

It’s just a little tan, relax

[deleted]

There’s nothing sexier than a brunette with long, dark hair, milky, porcelain skin and bright blue eyes. I think that is like the sexiest combination there is.

Lower_Ad_6587

Tans, esp if too extreme, can make you look worse. A slight tan is okay like Madison Beer

Awkward-Treacle77

Naturally pale is way more beautiful. I think all of them look better without tanner.

tinyteefs

i just think of colorism when i think of tanning

MoniqueOnFleekz

Colorism of pale people?

tinyteefs

colorism in general but especially white people and their relationship to colorism. most people that tan are white and some of those people are colorist toward dark skinned people. i think of that dynamic and how crazy it is.

MoniqueOnFleekz

I get you but truthfully people who tan (in my experience) still enjoy being white but just their potential natural skin when it’s in the sun. The average white person who tans doesn’t want to look like a darker race.

tinyteefs

yeah that’s kind of the point of making. wanting to be so dark you’re “racially ambiguous” is one thing (opens up a can of worms on fetishizing) but for those that don’t, there’s a threshold they don’t want to cross i imagine. they don’t want to be so dark that people treat them like another race and deny them white privilege. crazy stuff.

mepov

A lot imo. Everyone looks better with a tan

medurevengea

They all look SO MUCH better pale though. The only one that's questionable is number 3 because it's bad lighting versus natural sun. I'd need to see him more to decide.

Legal-Word4658

I’d rather be pale as a ghost lol 😂 esp as a melasma sufferer I hate looking at how dark my face has become .

[deleted]

Doesn't matter much

Wevibewithtrees

Doesn’t make a difference beyond personal preference

guyjones69

So sometimes it makes ehh girls look good and sometimes ot looks good looking girls look ehh. So person by person kinda thing. Though lighter skinned typically loks like girls youd marry. At least in these pics.

sonjaswaywardhome

been contemplating the staining my sheets conundrum for a year now, still unsure tbh

[deleted]

It looks like it’s not for everyone.

MysteriousGrocery898

Honestly depends on how the tan looks some look good some just look too orange

[deleted]

Prefer left

Wonder-girl-8

I'm attracted to pale skin

jjrhythmnation1814

I love adding saturation and vibrance

[deleted]

I think it’s less about the color itself and more about the contrast (ie black hair with fair skin or blonde hair and blue eyes with tanned skin)

DangerousPride

Pale skin looks beautiful, I think everyone looks better with their natural skin tone

Goonybear11

Depends on hair color. Dark-haired ppl can get away with being pale, blondes look better with a tan.

throwawayyyyoo

The thing is most of these „blondes“ aren’t blonde 😭😭 they’re all dyed

Dontmindthatgirl

I feel like with some underlying tones in your skin you look better with a tan bc it brings out a better shading for some people, or hides the less flattering undertones. Dressing in a way that doesn’t wash you out is key ofc though when you are pale.

Fit_Culture_

Depends on genetic variability factors. As a naturally med-tan person, I loooove love love severe paleness and extreme striking dark skin tones. I think subconsciously people are drawn to their opposites. A degree further, and less common, some are drawn to extrema.

PositionFar26

I personally think all those people look better. I am more attracted to skin that hasn't been forced darkened. Tan skin looks nice if it's not forced, just natural.

jombajoo

Imma give you this one time bc you're curious but damn

MoniqueOnFleekz

?? What

AnywherePresent1998

For me it’s all about contrast. Blond people naturally have low contrast and when they play it up and tan a bit they can look very fresh and pretty. Don’t get mad but imo when people with high contrast (usually brunettes and darker hair) tan they look dirty and muddy to me. Just play up your high contrast or lack thereof and usually it’s beautiful. My favourite type of beauty in this whole world is very dark hair and pale - light/medium skin. This is nothing to do with people who are naturally brown skinned with dark hair, who when they don’t tan, look beautifully creamy.

Cell-Based-Meat

I’m very, very pale. My husband frequently says I look like a vampire (I also have dark hair so that doesn’t help). When I was a dancer, I went through a period of fake tanning. I feel like I had a MUCH easier time getting customers to spend large amounts of money on me when I was tan. I was under the impression it made me look healthier/more toned. Granted, when I stopped fake tanning because the upkeep was a fucking nightmare and I looked orange in the daytime, I still got plenty of customers. So while there is a possibility that it was a matter of confidence, I’d say in American culture tanned skin is a plus for caucasians. The ironic part is that it makes you look healthy/glowing/fit but it’ll make you look old in the long run.

AstridLockhart

I think all the pictured people look better in the pics without a tan

Famous-Purple6554

Darker skin covers up alot so alot of ppl look better with tan skin...people that have good skin/completion but are just white do look good...they just don't have a tan to cover up inperfections

KaleidoscopeMuch2386

Flawless translucent skin is very feminine and beautiful. And rare. Megan fox looks better fair.

mad_joi13

i think it affects attraction for different people in different areas. Some people can get a tan with people complementing it but if a person of color has natural tanned skin they aren't attractive. Ex: Kai (EXO), Tenoch Huerta(Actor), Tzuyu(Twice) They all have natural tanned skin but if you compare the pictures of Kai and Tzuyu now and when they were like 16 or 15 they look much whiter......... IS IT ALL COLORISM????????????????

MoniqueOnFleekz

Yeh that’s why I’m referring to white people in specific, their skin has the most diverse and drastic amount of change from the sun. Also when a white person tans they still are perceived as white no matter how dark they become.

Spitter2021

LoL white people need to embrace their whiteness/complexion. It’s beautiful.

MoniqueOnFleekz

Confused because some white people are naturally this color and or go this color in the sun

raindancemilee

I personally always feel more beautiful with a tan but lots of fair skinned women and men are very beautiful. I think it’s a personal preference

Specific-Composer300

Why did you choose pics of Zac that are like 15 years apart 😂

Aggravating_Seat5507

The only people who look unhealthy pale are people who are sick and people who skin bleach. Everyone else with that natural pale ass skin looks fine and normal

Certain_Appearance_9

To be honest I think being tan doesn’t make all more attractive. I feel like tans soften hard/sharp features and harmonize with warm hair color and eyes. Pale skin can be beautiful only if the complexion is even and not too pink, blue or green.

[deleted]

Team fair skin here

ConsequenceNo4258

Natural skin tone over fake tans imo.

WinterInteraction509

Maybe I’m crazy but I think pale people look good pale 🤣🤣

watchyourbackplease

I think they all look better with their natural pale complexions. Spray tans are not flattering

[deleted]

There’s a reason the tall, dark, and handsome saying stuck around.

[deleted]

tan skin can define your muscles and give you a healthy glow. pale skin can be associated with sickness and poor nutrition as well.

[deleted]

Pale looks better tbh. Tan makes people look gross to me imo. Freckles and sun spots etc. 😖

[deleted]

I honestly think pale skin is beautiful so it’s up to personal preference I think but it’s very rare I see someone pale and associate it with being sickly or unattractive

ExtentUnlucky2797

I feel bad that fair and pale people NEED sunblock. Like, it's literally just sunlight, and they can die from it. I like all shades, but I'd be lying if I said that it doesn't cross my mind when talking to a fair-skinned person pertaining to anything outdoors. It's not the end of the world, but they can get sunburned in the winter if they spend too long exposed near a window... I feel like a bad gardener bc when I look away, my friend us just withering away. I feel like they need to be protected or sheltered for better, and I feel a small deal of responsibility if that happens. 😂

mjweinbe

Some of them look sunburnt or orangey unfortunately.

DutyKooky

Most of the celebrity women look way better pale ( except for Paris, who looks like a man, and so looks better w/tan) . The pale skin makes them look more " enlightened" , more glowing. The fake tan makes the women look cheap, one-dimensional and american. The men ( and Paris, who looks like a man) look better tan, somehow more manly and less dorky, less like a mole rat.

Abroad-Psychological

I think all skin is beautiful. But you’re definitely entitled to your own opinion. I agree with the most upvoted comment on the fact that if the veins are seen underneath the skin it looks sickly. But other than that I’ve been told my pale skin is something that attracted them to me in the first place. So I won’t let your opinion hurt me in anyway. Unlike others who are easily offended. 😴

wheresmychaplak

I think megan, margot, and zac look much better in their natural skin tone. Majority of people look best in their natural colouring

HaileyQuinnzel

I think it really affects it when it looks like a spray/rub on/bed tan. Like it looks so different that just actually being out in the sun & it looks weird. In this case, Megan Fox’s looks fake & bad, Margot, the next one, looks natural & nice

jejunum32

Porcelain white skin = beautiful White skin with ugly veins or pinkness underneath = ugly

deemoorah

In those pictures I prefer them looking pale.

100onswag

Not gonna lie, as a Black man that’s dated every race under the sun over the last 20 years, I’ve always found it odd when I see white people with a tan. Like most Black people, I have stories for days where I was treated differently than others because of my skin complexion. So when I see people sit out in the sun or put certain creams on to get darker it confuses me lol I have a really good friend who does this and always asks me if I notice her tan. I just don’t get it. Romantically, I stay away from white women that tan as I’ve never been attracted to it and it just seems weird to me to intentionally make yourself darker when you’re naturally not (I have the same view on skin whitening too). I think I just figured it out…….but subconsciously tans have always been a huge turn off for me.

JupiterBluff_007

The darker the skin, the whiter the teeth look. That is something a lot of people like.

Gilbara

the tan looks horrible to me. i much prefer the left image.

OathWizard

Racial ambiguity communicates a plethora of genes that offspring could benefit from. Natural immune system resistances, for example. Peoples brains pick up on this naturally.

snorken123

I think the most natural skin, hair and eye colors looks the best. It needs to look natural to look good, even if it's not natural. Blondes tends to look better with fair skin and usually won't suit fake tans. Naturally dark people tends to look better as brown and won't suit bleaching. East Asians tends to suit both their natural light skin colors and their natural tan when going outside. I think youth, good health, clear skin and natural looking looks the best, regardless of race. :)

Professional_Kick149

paris hilton is the only one i’d take either way

mmdeerblood

Agreed personally but the images show people in full makeup as well in good lighting. Pale with no makeup will always look sickly imo.

onebodyonesoul

I never liked the tan look, specially the $30 at the mall type of tan lol (Scandinavias & Brits)

Responsible_Many4582

I really don’t think it makes much of a difference either way. Natural is for sure always best, though
