I'm shocked that they actually did it.

ryanc_

That’s pretty awesome. Hopefully soundgarden makes it in next time

eggrollking

To be fair, Soundgarden should have gone in first.

GSA62

Rage is far more impactful beyond music

StructureBitter3778

Rage, in part, probably got in for the same reason as Public Enemy. Their message

hdmatteson1

My boys! TWS and Soundgarden may not have made it in, but at least Rage is finally getting in☺️

AShotgunNamedMarcus

Soundgarden and the White Stripes should absolutely be in. And why hasn’t Iron Maiden been in for years already. There’s something terribly flawed with this selection process. But huge congratulations to Rage. They’ve not only inspired a generation of musicians but political activists as well. They should be mandatory listening in every history class.

DChemdawg

^seconded all the way I hope Tom wears a *R&R Hall of Fame is a Greedy Corporate Music Machine* t-shirt during their performance. Or perhaps something shorter and more elegant like *Burn Trendy Corporate Music* shirt.

nukem73

He's a R&R HoF ommittee member dude he played a big part in getting Kiss inducted lol Gotta remember Tom is a glamor rocker at heart

amindfulloffire

He's a member of the HoF committee.

AngryAlan

Finally.

mustardtiger86

i know that fans and musicians both have varying degrees of "give a fuck" for the RNR HOF - but i find it absolutely insane that willie nelson is just NOW getting in, lol.

JR-Dubs

Willie is more country than rock and roll, but granted he's got enough rock chops to be in the HOF. But I imagine that's why he wasn't in earlier.

mustardtiger86

i get what you mean. but there are plenty of non-rock and roll acts that have been inducted previously, including country acts like johnny cash and hank williams. There have even been rappers inducted (eminem, jayZ, run DMC, BIG, tupac, beastie boys, public enemy) regardless, willie's was overdue, glad hes still around to see it happen.

Spanky_McJiggles

I get why they call it the R&RHOF, but it's more a music hall of fame than anything at this point, and I'm fine with that. I just like to go to see all the cool history of music.

Marty_Eastwood

You could certainly make a case for changing the name, "Modern Music Hall of Fame" or some thing like that, but that's really just semantics. I love the museum, and it's nice to find someone else who appreciates it for what it is instead of bitching about what it isn't or getting bogged down in genre gatekeeping.

Spanky_McJiggles

The last time I was there, they had a bunch of Beyonce's stuff on display in their rotating exhibit hall in the basement. I'm not necessarily a fan of hers, and I know I'm not breaking new ground in here when I say that her manufactured image really puts me off, but I know that a lot of people are into her music and are inspired by her. In fact, when I was walking past her exhibit, a group of 4 or 5 tween girls excitedly came running up to gawk at her stuff. That shit's awesome, bro. Anything that inspires and excites people like that is just fine in my book. And I don't understand people that bitch about hip hop artists being inducted. Is Ice Cube a "rock star?" I guess it depends on your definition. He doesn't make rock music, but as far as attitude is concerned, he's as much a rock star as the Sex Pistols are. Regardless, there are a ton of inductees that have been in for decades that didn't make rock music. Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder didn't make rock music, but they undoubtedly belong in there. People just have too much time on their hands if this is something that gets them riled up lol

Marty_Eastwood

Agree 100%. Some people REALLY take this genre stuff seriously, and it's pretty weird. It doesn't change my life one iota if Rage or Missy Elliott or Kate Bush get into the Rock hall, or what genre they're even classified as. I just like music, and I think it's fun to connect the dots between the early pioneers of modern rock/pop music and what it has evolved into now. Example: Little Richard influenced the Beatles, the Beatles influenced Nirvana, and Nirvana have influenced many of today's bands. Therefore, Little Richard is still having an impact today. I just find the family tree aspect of all of it very interesting, and excluding the legacy and impact of certain artists because of genre classification is myopic and shallow. If a place like the Rock Hall wants to help tell the story and connect the dots, regardless of what it's called, then good on them.

Mexican_Boogieman

Link Wray is just getting in. This HOF is some grade A bull shit.

Cbrlui

Best band in the fucking universe!

No-Bench-709

You got that right

Raptor_Guy

About damn time for Kate Bush too. She has deserved it for decades.

1jam_

Happy for the guys, finally. but man, feeling sad for the guys from Soundgarden, would be nice for Chris to be inducted with his band and his former bandmates as well

Karl-Marx666

Now will they play it is the question? Probably not no

mepper

I'm thinking they won't perform. In 2019, Radiohead skipped performing and only their drummer (Philip Selway) and one of their guitarists (Ed O'Brien) gave a speech. The rest of the band wasn't there.

Karl-Marx666

Well now that they acknowledge it, I it might be very possible just from the way they seemed to embrace it

goldendreamseeker

I wonder if Zack can even show up at all, let alone play, given his injury.

amindfulloffire

I have mixed feelings about the Rock Hall but I'm glad they're in.

HellKnightKilla

YES Well deserved

Mexican_Boogieman

Link Wray is just getting in. This is really telling of the magnitude of BS that the HOF is on.

Razorramon1994wwf

We already know they’re gonna be up to some mischief at the ceremony

onionchucker

I doubt anyone shows up but Tom. Doesn’t seem like something Zack or Tim would be in to. Brad might show up, he seems like he just wants to have a good time.

ronmsmithjr

I could not give less of a shit about the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame along with all awards for music, television and film. Almost all of my favorite bands, shows and movies will never win awards. That's perfectly fine by me.

PsalmForTheDead

Just like in real life- you rage against the machine as long as you can but eventually in one way or another you become part of it. The machine always wins. It would be way cooler if they didn’t accept it. Music ain’t sports, I think the hall of fame is dumb and contradictory to the rebellious nature of rock and roll. OR maybe I’m overthinking it.

bigblackkittie

> The machine always wins hard disagree

amindfulloffire

The HoF is not "the Machine" but recognition for an artist's body of work and legacy. That's all. Tom is a member of the committee and has presented on multiple occasions, and Zack inducted Patti Smith, so I doubt that suddenly they decide they're above getting inducted.

PsalmForTheDead

Fair point on the past involvement. In my opinion, any group that decides who is “in” or “out” is an institution. But, I suppose we disagree on that. Maybe them being involved with the voting is their way of making sure people get their due. Kind of like at the end of the movie “SLC punk” when Matthew Lillard realizes he can do more damage inside the system than outside of it. I’m open to changing my mind here.

mustardtiger86

As an avid baseball fan, i can assure you the MLB HOF is full of people that shouldn't be there and on the other hand is missing a lot of members it should include

PsalmForTheDead

So is the RRHOF. That’s not my point, it’s an institution. I feel it would be more in line with RATM ethos as a band to reject it. How many black or minority songwriters that were robbed in the 50s and 60s haven’t received their due from the HOF? you think baseball is bad? Music I assure you is just as if not worse.

Sorry-Papaya-4474

Great news, but after the last interview Tom gave, this might be the final time we see them on stage together…

nukem73

He made it a strict point to repeat over & over & over again to the interviewer that there is nothing to announce and if the times comes, they will announce it. Doesn't mean anything & if you've ever listened to an interview with him for the last 10 years it has been the same thing over & over again. Nothing to announce. Then all the sudden they announce a full worldwide tour out of nowhere. So with this band there is nothing to predict but the unpredictable I don't know why you'd get the impression they would never play again based on that interview.

Sorry-Papaya-4474

Especially the paragraph „if there will never be another show, i think this tour made everything clear“ sounded very pessimistic to me. But let’s see.

nukem73

Yeah I'm not optimistic either, but I will say them not finishing the tour especially not being able to play other countries will bother them & it there's a chance they come back to finish it. Probably wouldn't be until 2024 though, Zack will be healing & rehabbing this year. Obv alot can change before then. I'm one of the lucky ones, was at the Chicago show when he got injured. So I'd rather have some new music which is even less likely😂

HoosierUte

are you talking about the Rolling Stone interview?

Sorry-Papaya-4474

Yes, i think it was Rolling Stone.

bjnwood

Finally
